1141  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: June 28, 2015, 07:46:51 PM
Did you try to reduce power to all chips, reduce fan and see if fourth loop revitalizes itself.
It did happen to me upon similar situation.
I reduced power to the "burnt out" unit, and it's hashing with all loops running @ ~1.2TH/s, with quakefiend's replacement board.

I power cycled the second unit, with no changes to any voltage settings, and it came back up with all loops hashing. I'll keep an eye on it, and lower the voltages if/when the next time it decides to weird out on me.

TBH, I'm actually enjoying this troubleshooting Smiley Love how tweakable these Spondoolies rigs are.

Personally, I am troubled by the obviously burnt PCIe power connector. Pulling 250+ Watts through a single connector when running near full speed means that all the pins must be a tight fit, all the crimps to the pins must be solid, and the cables themselves should be at least 16AWG (IMHO). That applies at both the SP20 end, and the power supply end (assuming it's modular). If things are bit off, then you'll get heating that will just spread to the other wires and pins in the same connector.

I wouldn't ever try and pull more than about 200W through a single connector, on a long term (i.e. days) basis. That's just me though.

I would also encourage you to use the the "Power Limit" values for each of the loops. The SP20 seems to pretty well adhere to the limits you specify.

Enjoy the blinky lights, even with your eyes closed!  Smiley

Let me know when and where to order one. I really like my SP20, but it's got all the sex appeal of a very long toaster.

Funny you should say that, because I kinda have a thing for toasters.  Wink

Shiny Chrome, well then sure. But dull anodized aluminum? I have my standards!  Smiley

Maybe I haven't been paying attention, but do you have a price on the chips yet? It would seem they might view the chips as equally precious as the miners.

Yeah, looks like it's going to exceed my 1% increase. Maybe that guy with the 1000 "BitFury Bulb" farm finally turned it on!  Smiley

Did anyone ever hear what the hashrate of the bulb was?
1148  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience BM1384 Project Development Discussion on: June 26, 2015, 10:47:47 PM
Is the whole setup above (Fan + Pi + Hub + Sticks) all off a single power supply?

If you get a chance, it might be interesting to get a "Kila-Watt" view of the power consumption at the wall. That's the best comparison to an S5 I would think.

Look like a great progress to me!
1149  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Sfards: SF100-the first 28nm Dual-Mode Miner gets into mass production on: June 26, 2015, 08:23:42 PM
So we should expect a "big yawn" from the Bitmain marketing guys? No pressure to announce/release an S6/S7 product?
1150  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Sfards: SF100-the first 28nm Dual-Mode Miner gets into mass production on: June 26, 2015, 08:16:41 PM
I don't keep up, but isn't the next LTC "Halving" way sooner than 180 days?
1151  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: S5 Power Supply Query on: June 26, 2015, 08:07:30 PM
One other small nit. You don't want the S5 to draw air that's already been warmed up by one of the BFL power supplies, and then exhausting even warmer air into the 2nd BFL PSU. You'll want the PSU's off to the sides of the S5.

Just something to consider.
1152  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Sfards: SF100-the first 28nm Dual-Mode Miner gets into mass production on: June 26, 2015, 08:00:50 PM
OK, so the takeaway from all this is that SFARDS thinks they get the most return for their money by running the SF-100 in house (i.e. mining for themselves), BUT if you are willing to pay them enough, and buy 100 of them, then they are willing to forgo the in-house activity and ship off their SF-100 to a customer?

Makes a lot of sense, and in which case we can pretty much let this thread wither.

It would interesting, though not important, to know if they dual-mine, or just mine one coin?
1153  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Sfards: SF100-the first 28nm Dual-Mode Miner gets into mass production on: June 26, 2015, 07:48:44 PM
It's my understanding they are getting chips from Spondooliestech.  So, when SPT's chips are in new rigs mining [As they are now], we may see them begin development very soon

Ok, while more recent than before, it just clouds the issue further.

What chips does Spondoolies have that are newer than the Rockerbox (SP20), and where are they mining with them? What's your source for this?
1154  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Sfards: SF100-the first 28nm Dual-Mode Miner gets into mass production on: June 26, 2015, 07:43:12 PM
They won't produce anything until the next Gen comes out (from their last post in the thread)

True, but the price will probably be more appropriate when they do come out.

Possibly, but "data center ready" packaging, and "integrated liquid cooling" doesn't seem like it would come cheap. Your view of "appropriate" may be significantly different than mine. Right now it seems though that few on this forum consider $1129 appropriate

My bet is that SFARDS really doesn't care much about this forum at the present time. I wonder who SFARDS has as customers that are willing to pay $1129, or are they getting a much better price?
1155  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bitmain Underclocking! on: June 26, 2015, 05:32:18 PM
There is a massive difference between can and will. I think Bitmain has approximately zero incentive to take in old gear. What would they do with it? Bitcoin mining is rapidly changing to "Efficiency is King", if it's not already there.

Just my opinion.
1156  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Nowadays what's the actual cost of mining 1 BTC ? on: June 26, 2015, 05:27:26 PM
Last month didn't even make 1 btc, Made 0.9 btc with 3th (1 x S4 & 1 x C1) at 2300w....

In Australia electricity is super expensive in comparison to anywhere 0.20 a watt, When i hear u guys saying 0.10 a watt & less i cringe & i know i losing a never ending battle for BTC

Cost of my electricity at current in my circumstance is more expensive that coin generated at current diff & price of bitcoin.

Just out of curiosity, was that .9 BTC figure, a "before electricity costs", or a "after electric costs" number? I ask because I thought that at $.20 per KWh rate, mining was losing proposition given current BTC price.
1157  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Sfards: SF100-the first 28nm Dual-Mode Miner gets into mass production on: June 26, 2015, 05:17:48 PM
One guy over in the "Group Buy" sub-forum suggested that it would take well over 386 YEARS to break even in terms of the miner cost. That was with the usual fantasy provisions of "free electricity and no difficulty changes".

While I expected a "premium" price, this is more "Extreme Premium" pricing.

1158  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [lee group]419$ the sales promotion of hosted antminer S5(golden psu included) on: June 26, 2015, 05:11:45 PM
get one price of 7000CNY(1129$), but we need wait until the middle of the august before we can get the miner....
so what are your guys thinking about this offer

Way to expensive, ROI of 141,125 days with free electricity and no change in both BTC and LTC difficulty.
Not worth negotiating if they are that greedy...

So does the estimate of 141,125 days (386+ YEARS), include the fact that all the Bitcoins will have been mined long before that date?  Smiley
1159  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: S5 Power Supply Query on: June 26, 2015, 04:52:17 PM
What an interesting way to re-purpose some used BFL gear. You might find that your "at the wall" figure for power usage is higher than expected due to the nature of the BFL power supplies. They look like monstrous "power bricks" which are usually more like 12V at 5Amps. Smallish power bricks aren't usually too efficient. but you didn't have buy a power supply.

You might also find the S5 fan spins a bit faster, and is a bit louder than the other ones.

Best of luck with your unique BFL/Antminer.

Just think though. In October, they can have a sale! Just in time for Christmas......

$999!!!

Pure speculation on my part. I wonder who will be buying at $1100+?
