1441  Other / Meta / Re: Does the "One thread per site ONLY" rule apply in the lending section? on: August 02, 2016, 09:52:18 AM
I noticed today that knightkon has opened 2 lending threads in the lending section, with one being for loans over 1BTC, and one for general loans. These are the 2 threads:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1572035.0
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1480336.0

My question is basically the title - does the rule apply? If it doesn't, it should definitely be implemented because you will probably see people open multiple threads with different limits in hopes of getting more exposure, and hurting the people who don't want to do that.
In his case the threads are not promoting sites, so it is fine I guess.
Both threads are both with the same goal, but the short term loans and long term(big amount) should be in the belonging section.

Promoting sites or not does not matter. Its the same thing, just different amounts, so it should be the same thread. Its not about short/long term either, where a 2nd thread in a different section(!) would be justified.

Id report it as double.

AV-Programme legen keinen recoverypunkt an.

Keine Endung, einfach:

default_wallet

in %APPDATA%/Electrum/wallets (wie oben beschrieben)

Am I the most unlucky person in the world or what? The isn't the first time I've been around 99% probability a I'm sure it won't be the last.

I decided to go from 1-9 and then a-k (making 20 vanity addresses) and I think that should be plenty for what I need them for. Thanks for the help Shorena! They're almost all done at this point. I'm sure on a GPU this would have been less than 10 minutes haha.

I have been on 99% as well, even with addresses I get paid for. This usually means its a loss, but it happens seldom so Im still up overal.

Is it ever possible (at least theoretically) that two different people in different places at different times generate two identical addresses with the same keys? I thought that the collision could be prevented (if it is possible in the first place, of course) by checking for existing addresses on the blockchain...

But what if the addresses are generated in an offline mode?

Nothing is checked, not with online wallets, not with services (e.g. blockchain.info), not offline, no where. A collision is not prevented, its just so unlikely that it can be considered impossible. Some GPU system create over 60Million keys per second, thats not possible when a check would be needed. What would the check even accomplish? I could still spend your funds.

Electrum is without a doubt the best, its enough for any of you that think different to check the alternative clients both section of Multibit and Electrum you will see there that a lot more problems happen with Multibit than with Electrum. With this I don't want to say Multibit HD is bad , not at all but just want to underline less problems from Electrum as for the security both have seeds and allow a top notch password very difficult to be hacked by brute force. In security they are both very safe, but less problems happen with Electrum and Multibit HD is more prone to problems from what I have seen in the Multibit section.

Looks like you missed the post directly above yours. This is roughly my experience as well.

I'm figuring out which client to use. Could we discuss which one is better? Major factors to consider: security and ease of use.

Multibit HD is better protected against brute force attack.

Quoted so the picture shows.

Hi, is there a way I can tell vanitygen to start the search at a specific privatekey (hex value ...), and not random?

For example all adrdesses with prefix: '123456' beginnig search at privatekey (hex value 10) 5HpHagT65TZzG1PH3CSu63k8DbpvD8s5ip4nEB3kEsreBoNWTw6
and then 11, 12, 12 ....? And not random?

So if my harddisk crashes i can retrieve the privatekeys back, cause i know which range i used?Huh

Thats not how vanitygen works. The private keys are created randomly and there is no progress you can lose.

But it should be possible, just remove the random part and insert a specific starting point and remove the rekey intervall, or am I wrong?

Sure, edit the source accordingly. There is no flag for that and I dont see why either. Going through private keys in order gives you no advantage.

-snip-
This is insecure. If you would do this, someone could find your private key if he knows where you started your search.
Just create (secure) backups of your private key in case your drive crashes.

How should somebody know the range? For sure i wouldn't start at the beginning

From your disk. I dont think its a security issue unless you start at a non random place.
1447  Other / MultiBit / Re: Multibit: wallet shows spendable amount with 0.0001 on: August 01, 2016, 10:08:30 PM
Thats multibit classic. Try resetting again, sometimes it needs 2 or 3 tries to get it right from what I read.
1448  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Vanitygen: Vanity bitcoin address generator/miner [v0.22] on: August 01, 2016, 02:58:37 PM
You can use 'o' (small Oh) instead. Its the closest in terms of looks.

Meh. I just don't like the look! I'll probably do capitals. Haha then of course I'll get to (I) and be screwed all over again. Hmmm what a predicament.

Another noob question. Like REALLY noob so don't laugh. How do I tell if I have a GPU in the laptop? I'm assuming I don't have one at all but have no idea how to check. Why am I asking? It just took my CPU... 7 minutes to find a 4 character vanity address hahaha.

Yeah, its not easy sometimes with the limitation of symbols.

(Assuming Ubuntu) Try
lspci -vnn | grep VGA
on a linux shell. If it says something about nVidia or AMD there is chance you can use oclvanitygen. If its an intel GPU you likely cant.

If you generate addresses for yourself you dont need to use split key vanit.

Anyway, here is the command to create 1test1 to 1test9 (cant do 10 because there is no 0 in base 58).

Yes I know I don't need to use split key, but I don't trust the system I'm on so I just generate the original addresses on an Ubuntu Live USB to be extra secure.

I actually didn't even think that I couldn't do 10... or any multiple of 10. Hmmm. I'll have to figure that out. Maybe I'll just use characters after 1-9. That way I don't have to add an extra letter to save some time anyways  Tongue

You can use 'o' (small Oh) instead. Its the closest in terms of looks.

I'm going to do a little test and see how this works. BRB AFK! Lol.

Have fun.

I'm not saying QS is now your slave, but it sure is more appealing when he wears crypto-games signature in this crypto-games - betcoin.ag war you seek.

I know Quickseller for some time now and we dont always agree and had several discussions on several topics. I never felt they changed their opinion with their signature though. Maybe you can put some quotes to your accusations, because right now it looks like you are just increasing your post counter without saying anything of substance.

You should read from the start before you say such a thing.

I did.

I did not accuse QS of anything, therefore i don't need to back anything up. What i said was that it's funny and appealing that his signature was bought by crypto-games

Yes, you implied a connection. I question your connection based on my past experience with QS.

So you are way off when you say that i'm not saying anything of substance of this debate, you're just not seeing if from the right angle.

If there would a right angle it wouldnt be a discussion.
1451  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Vanitygen: Vanity bitcoin address generator/miner [v0.22] on: August 01, 2016, 02:37:38 PM
I need to make a series of 5 letter vanity addresses. In order to do so I think there's a command and I do something with bracket (Yes. I definitely completely understand what I'm doing /s).

Question: Can I use the same HEX public key '04AC6402...' if I'm doing split key vanity gen to create a series of vanity addresses?

So what I mean is my public key is '04AC6402...' can I use that to create multiple addresses, all at the same time?

Yes.

1test1
1test2
1test3

Let me know if you understand what I'm asking and if it makes sense. Basically I'm trying to save some time rather than generating 100 addresses on an Ubuntu Live USB then going to Vanitygen and 1 by 1 find the part private key.

If you generate addresses for yourself you dont need to use split key vanity.

Anyway, here is the command to create 1test1 to 1test9 (cant do 10 because there is no 0 in base 58).

Code:
./vanitygen 1test1 1test2 1test3 1test4 1test5 1test6 1test7 1test8 1test9

You can also create a file with all the prefixes, e.g. "my_prefixes.txt"

Code:
./vanitygen -f my_prefixes.txt
Next match difficulty: 1702005001 (9 prefixes)

If you only want a single address from any of the possible prefixes use the -1 flag, e.g.

Code:
./vanitygen -1 -f my_prefixes.txt
Next match difficulty: 1702005001 (9 prefixes)

Edit: I just got the part you said about brackets and I think you are refering to regular expressions. Its possible to use them (flag is -r, but they will slow you down.

Code:
$ ./vanitygen -1 -f my_prefixes.txt
Next match difficulty: 1702005001 (9 prefixes)
[419.17 Kkey/s][total 4964864][Prob 0.3%][50% in 46.7min]
$ ./vanitygen -1 -r 1test[1-9]
[151.59 Kkey/s][total 582912]

That isn't the actual raw transaction...

But, you can see that the second output there of 3.37690527 is your change output. I'm guessing that your wallet says you have 3.37690527  and you are trying to spend from it. However, that is the change output and it is tied up in this unconfirmed transaction.

it says in multibit that my balance is 3.37700529.
any idea what i need to do to fix this?
So I did a little bit of digging, and it looks like your transaction fee is too low. It is paying somewhere between 30 and 40 satoshis per byte, which, although not that low, isn't high enough to get you fast confirmations. When you sent it a month ago, the state of the network may have been different and may have required an even higher fee.

In order to fix this, you need to make your wallet forget that it made that transaction in the first place. I'm looking into how to do this. Which version of MultiBit are you using?

Should be multibit HD which should have a button "repair wallet" that should do it.

If Im wrong and its multibit classic "reset and rescan blockchain" (something along those lines) should do it.
1454  Other / MultiBit / Re: Multibit: wallet shows spendable amount with 0.0001 on: August 01, 2016, 01:37:19 PM
Dear forum

I am kinda lost here and hope someone can help.

I want to send someones BTC that are being kept in Multibit to my Trezor but we can't. There is an error message, saying:
"There are not enough funds in this wallet to send x BTC. You can only spend your "Availiable to spend" balance. Remember that the sender pays a fee".

So basically Multibit is telling me that even tough my wallet contains x BTC worth X Dollars, there are only 0.001 BTC avaliable to spend.

I have googled quite a bit but haven't been able to fix the issue. It might have something to do with an outgoing transcation from the Multibit wallet, that didn't go trought. It says under transactions "This transaction is not yet confirmed. Seen by 1 peer." The mentioned transaction was a very small transaction (around 2 dollars only) and is more than a month old. The value of of my actual wallet balance is many times the value of this unconfirmed transaction, so I don't see how this stuck transaction can block all my funds?

Any help is appreciated!

Its possible that you used all your funds to spend the 2 USD worth of bitcoin. You think of it like you own a 2016 USD bill and want to spend 2 USD. Someone would need to give you a 2014 USD change. At least thats how bitcoin works. If multibit does not allow you to spend "unconfirmed change" something like this can block your entire balance.

Are you willing to post the transaction ID of the unconfirmed TX or even better the raw transaction? "Seen by 1 peer" sounds like it was not properly broadcasted.

right if you generate any new keys Smiley i only have 2 wallet addresses in my wallet, no what i think has happened is that 12.1 added indexing to the wallet.dat file, meaning it doesnt take an hour now to load and reindex my wallet. Now all i need to do is make a larger truecrypt container Smiley

Wallets also store information about transactions you received (and created). I have a wallet file with 100 private keys thats over 400 mb. That will not happen under normal circumstances (it was generated during a past spam attack on the network), but you should plan ahead for your wallet file to grow in size.

What CPU does the system you made the video with have? It looks very slow compared to e.g. btcrecover.

What language is it written in? From the UI it looks like Java.

Hey guys, so I am a newbie and i saw some of members here have multiple bitcoin wallets , why is that? do i need to make multiple bitcoin wallets as a beginner ?

First make sure you understand the difference between a wallet[1] and addresses[2]. You can have as many wallets as you like. You dont have to though. I have a main wallet, one on the phone, one on my laptop, an escrow wallet and another one on an offline system. Each for a different reason. The offline system is for long term, high security. The main wallet is for day to day transactions. The phone wallet is used when I know I will be able to pay with bitcoin in a store or trade face to face. The laptop wallet is somewhere between the main wallet and the phone wallet. The escrow wallet is solely used for funds I hold for someone else. This is mainly because I dont want that to get mixed up. I could do it within a wallet, but its easier that way.

There are copy and pasters in many threads. Once they get caught they get banned. Feel free to tell me about other copy and pasters though and they'll be dealt with.
What would be my price if i report some members with that doings?

Your number of reports would go up.

so are you telling that this members who replied in this topic , did not make any copy-paste post?

Its not normal for users to just copy what someone else already wrote. Why would you even think that? If this would be normal, this board would be useless.

are you mad at us pilipinos?  there are a lot of members that are even worst than me and yet they are not still banned.
