LOL, congratulations bro !

Looks like criticism against you is disregarded thoughtfully.
Thanks.

It appears that some people's egos can't stand it when people don't cower in fear in response to their demands. These people appear to have a God complex, and are frankly toxic. Some people are in serious need of professional help, but do not appear to be inclined to seek said needed help.
1442  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2021, time for a new general & diff speculation thread... on: July 06, 2021, 03:51:29 AM

It is hard to know the legitimacy of cloud mining operations. Any one of those cloud mining operations could potentially be selling (or have sold) shares of miners that do not exist, even if they have actual miners from bitmain. For example, they could have sold 120% of their actual mining capacity. It is also possible that bitdeer was shut down, but will continue to sell cloud mining contracts to minimize the losses to the owners of bitdeer.

Viabtc will fare the best, as they can sell the miners that were just shut down by the Chinese government.

Would be interesting to know if the new locations are space constrained or power constrained.
I would piggyback off what mikeywith above.

A miner is essentially an ATM machine that prints cash to anyone in physical possession of the miner. If you ship a miner overseas, you need to have an employee that you trust set it up in a new datacenter. If the employee is not trustworthy, he can repurpose the miner to mine on a pool account that does not belong to the owner of the miner. If someone owns thousands or tens of thousands of miners, they would have to send millions of dollars to what amounts to be a stranger in order to keep using their equipment, and there is the risk that an untrustworthy employee would repurpose a percentage of the miners to mine on another pool account, and the owner may not even be able to detect this.
1443  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [Jun 2021] Mempool empty! Use this opportunity to Consolidate your small inputs! on: July 06, 2021, 03:26:04 AM
But I did want to point out that as of NOW 8:30 PM EDT 5-July there are 3 blocks of transactions in the mempool the 1st block would require a fee of 70+ sat/vb to get into it. the 2nd one you can into for 4 sat/vb and there have been no blocks for the last 30 minutes.

There are some really messed up fee estimators out there. And some places just paying a fixed fee, which may or may not be messing up the fee estimators.

-Dave

It is difficult for fee estimators to accurately predict the minimum required fee because the time until the next block is always unknown. If a block was just found, the mempool will have fewer high-paying transactions, but it is reasonable to expect that high-paying transactions will appear in the mempool over time until the next block is found. This makes estimating the required fee difficult because you don't know when the next block will be found, and in cases when a lot of mining capacity is being taken on/offline, the fee estimator may not even know how long until the expected time of the next block.

A lot of posts in this thread, and in posts in other, similar threads talk about the required fee to get a single transaction confirmed, but this fee rate would probably not be appropriate if you need 50, 100, or more transactions confirmed in nearly every block, as many larger bitcoin businesses may need. A large business who pays the minimum required fee might get a portion of their transactions confirmed quickly, but would quickly see their transactions pile up as being unconfirmed, which will cause problems. I think a business that consistently needs many transactions confirmed in every block would need to pay something closer to the median fee rate. This has the potential to cause confusion to some of the fee estimators out there.
1444  Other / Meta / Re: Question for admins: Add one more post in my thread maybe? on: July 06, 2021, 01:27:40 AM
Posts are ordered in threads by message ID. What we do in these cases is that we repurpose the ID of a deleted post which lies in the appropriate range.
Does this mean that you do not keep track of the content of deleted posts? If not, that sounds risky. What did you do with the database entry for the old post?
1445  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How to start with reselling cloud mining services/mining farms on: July 05, 2021, 10:08:45 PM
I am new to this but I am very interested in reselling cloud mining/mining farms.
In order to resell a mining farm, you first need to own that mining farm and in order to own that, you would need to have bought that farm from someone. Seems ideal and if someone is really renting out their farm then this work out nicely.
This is not necessarily true. It would be possible for someone to sell pre-order cloud mining contracts that are estimated to start at some future date. In order to stay in business, you would likely need to have contracts with a manufacturer of ASIC equipment that will guarantee you will receive the miners by a certain date.

But in reality this is not the case. In the name of "Cloud mining" what exists are MLM/HYIP programs that use new investors money to pay off old investors like a ponzi and keep running this with no mining actually happening in the background.
Cloud mining has historically been very bad for customers, but I can't think of a time when cloud mining was bad for the sellers of cloud miners. Customers will eventually get burned, and the operator profits (or runs away with customer money).

IMO a more consumer friendly product would be some kind of synthetic contract that pays out up to a maximum of nBTC that is sold for something less than n, at price x, and the seller has to put up n-xBTC as security. The contract would pay out based on what a particular miner would be expected to produce, based on a preset electric consumption and electric cost assumptions, and based on the difficulty.
1446  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [Jun 2021] Mempool empty! Use this opportunity to Consolidate your small inputs! on: July 05, 2021, 09:08:35 PM
There is the risk of a government-sponsored 51% attack.
If we start reading reliable news coming from miners directly that someone (be it the government or anyone else), is starting to confiscate huge numbers of mining units, we could be closer to such a scenario. But it's still an expensive attack to maintain even if they gathered the required amount of hardware.

I think the Chinese government has reached its goal. Chinese miners have been shut down, they have seen what will happen to them, and their mining operations in China are now a thing of the past. With them out of the way, the communist party can now switch their attention to the digital yuan.
I don't think the Chinese government getting miners to stop mining in China achieves anything of substance. If the miners are allowed to move their equipment overseas, the Chinese government would be hurting their own economy, and bitcoin would still be making it more difficult for the CCP to control it's population.

Information does not flow freely out of (or within) China. So if the Chinese government is seizing miners, there is a good chance this will not be publicly known. The cost to maintain a 51% attack is pretty low if you exclude the cost of the equipment. The cost of a 51% would be the cost to run the equipment, which is, with the most advanced ASICs is a fraction of the expected value of the bitcoin that would be mined absent a 51% attack.

We also had the effect of having 28% of all mined blocks have no transactions via the recent 28% drop in difficulty, and there were not major issues with transaction fees rising, or the mempool getting clogged.

1449  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [Jun 2021] Mempool empty! Use this opportunity to Consolidate your small inputs! on: July 05, 2021, 02:26:42 PM
Looking at a chart showing the total network's hash rate is pretty scary. Looks like an altcoin after a huge sell-off. From around 150 TH/s at the beginning of June, the hash rate dropped by almost 50% in July. But it seems to be taking a turn for the better now after reaching a bottom at around 84 TH/s if the data I am looking at is correct.

I don't find it scary at all, it's good news all around. There's now far less of a concentration of miners in China. The difficulty has dropped making mining more profitable for everyone else. The mempool didn't get excessively congested while it happened so fees weren't too bad. Eventually, all those mining rigs will find their way out of China and get redeployed somewhere else.
I don't think the difficulty dropping by this much, or that this much mining capacity going offline is "good news".

My assumption is that the majority (nearly all) of the drop in hashrate is due to Chinese miners going offline and that nearly all Chinese miners have already been taken offline. The CCP (Chinese government) does not like bitcoin because it makes it more difficult for them to control their population, and they have an incentive to harm bitcoin.

There is the risk of a government-sponsored 51% attack. This could mean that you cannot get your transactions confirmed no matter the fee you try to pay, or it could mean that you are forced to pay very high fees that make bitcoin undesirable to use.
1450  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Will Trump be indicted ? on: July 05, 2021, 05:48:26 AM
You took a small piece of the big picture and framed it as if it were the whole picture in order to make Trump look like an innocent victim.
I should be clear, Trump is an innocent victim. There has never been a similar prosecution for not paying taxes on fringe benefits when there was no additional crimes involved. The prosecution is very clearly political.

so without proof that Weisselberg actually lived in the apartment, the entire indictment goes up in smoke.

There has never been doubt that he lived there together with his wife for 7 years. Its an undisputed fact. After they divorced, Allen Weisselberg had his daughter-in-law evicted from the apartment. Regardless, your assertion is incorrect.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9625481/Trump-Organization-CFO-Allen-Weisselberg-EVICTED-ex-daughter-law-apartment.html
If Weisselberg has admitted to living in NYC in the past, please provide evidence of such. Evicting his former daugher-in-law during a messy divorce is hardly evidence of anything other than that he was going through a messy divorce.

The indictment's most serious charge, grand larceny, stems from Weisselberg's claiming tax refunds from the IRS that he was allegedly not entitled to. In addition to proving that the tax returns were in fact fraudulent, the prosecution would need to prove that Weisselberg was in the state of NY when he caused the tax returns to be filed.

No, that's wholly incorrect. It doesn't matter where he was when the taxes were filed. Besides, we're not talking about a one-time thing, we're talking about 9 years of under-reported income.
I have serious doubts about you having any actual familiarity with the case.

Weisselberg is being charged in NY state court for alleged violations of NY state law. In order for the court to have jurisdiction over any alleged crimes, or for NY law to apply, any alleged crimes must have taken place in NY state. If Weisselberg was going 71 in a 70 MPH zone in NJ, the DA cannot charge him for violating NY law in NY courts.

1453  Economy / Lending / Re: Looking for Loan, Have Collateral on: July 04, 2021, 07:05:34 PM

There is no other way except buying anything either the card is okay or not. The OP is trying to give the card as collateral so it is impossible to check by the lender either the card is valid or not. Also same will happen if use escrow. From borrower/lender/escrow may use card and deny the use of the card.
It would be reckless to accept what the OP is offering as collateral for a loan. However, the OP has indicated that he no longer has any use for the value of the credit in his Amazon account, so he could effectively sell this credit to someone in order to realize the value of the credit.

1457  Other / Archival / Re: How does the system work for getting Legendary Rank? on: July 04, 2021, 04:00:49 PM
I want to point out that I do not regularly look at my own profile, so my likely, I was promoted on June 30July 1 (when I posted after the new activity period), but did not notice until yesterday.
Ah, that might explain the problem here.  I was always under the impression that the transition from Hero-->Legendary happened on the day of the activity period change.  I'm pretty sure that was the case when I made it to Legendary, because I was anticipating it for weeks on end (I finally made it when I had an activity of something like 1064).
If you have the same number of posts that you do activity, and you have made an average of less than 14 posts per activity period, you could potentially rank up on a day other than the start of the activity period. The activity threshold to rank up to legendary can be anything between 775 and 1030, and is not necessarily a number divisible by 14.
1458  Other / Archival / Re: How does the system work for getting Legendary Rank? on: July 04, 2021, 03:29:35 PM
But yesterday I saw an interesting topic with obtaining Legendary, where the following statement was:

Today while reading responses to threads I had posted in, I noticed one of my posts, I read the post, looked at my forum handle and title, and saw that I have officially been promoted to a Legendary member.

And since the last recount of activity was on June 30, I have a question. It turns out that the Legendary rank can be obtained on any day between Activity recounts, and not necessarily on the day the Activity is recalculated? For example, my Activity on July 14 will become 784 and I can already apply for a new rank. If I am not given a new rank exactly on July 14, the day of receiving 784 Activity, then I should wait for the next possible promotion on July 28, on the day of receiving the 798 Activity, or there is a possibility that my rank may be raised on any day between July 14 and 28. July, for example?
I want to point out that I do not regularly look at my own profile, so my likely, I was promoted on June 30July 1 (when I posted after the new activity period), but did not notice until yesterday.

My understanding is that you will become a legendary member at a specific activity threshhold that is between 775 and 1030, and will vary from account to account (assuming you have the required 1000 merit, which you have). I also understand that you should rank up within an hour of meeting all the critera for ranking up (having the required activity and merit).

If you always have more posts than you have activity, and you always post on the day of the new activity period, then you will rank up on the day of the activity period. If you consistantly post two days after the beginning of each new activity period, you will rank up two days after the start of the activity period.
1459  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: What's the rationale behind difficulty adjustment after every 2016 blocks? on: July 04, 2021, 03:21:48 PM
Why particularly 2016 blocks?
It is an arbitrary number designed to coincide with the target number of blocks being produced every two weeks assuming an average block time of one per every 10 minutes.

I am not sure if satoshi conducted any kind of research or testing to conclude that 2016 blocks was the ideal difficulty time, however, he did not publish his research/testing if ihe did.

Moving forward, the reason why the difficulty period will not change is that the 2016 block period is the status quo and the status quo is not causing major problems for bitcoin.
1460  Economy / Lending / Re: Looking for Loan, Have Collateral on: July 04, 2021, 02:40:43 PM
~snip~

Unfortunately for you, all the "things" that you offer as collateral, don't worth a thing here. I suggest you read this and if you have something that is considered valid, put it up for collateral. If not, then the best thing for you is to lock your thread and move on and look elsewhere.
I want to correct you. The "collateral" the OP is offering does have value however it is not possible to prevent the OP from unilaterally removing the value from a potential lender.

I would suggest the OP offer to buy something on amazon to other forum members that is valued less than the amount of credit on the OP's account in exchange for what the OP considers to be a fair price.
