14541  Economy / Speculation / Re: HODL, HODL you %$@#$ on: November 26, 2017, 11:56:20 AM
There is no doubt that just holding BTC get us nice profit over the years, and anybody who sold before is certainly not happy about it.I fully agree that now is not the time for sale because we all expect prices to go higher up.But someone who has a large amount of BTC will not hold all coins endlessly, especially if they were bought very cheaply. If I have 100 BTC I would sell at least 10% at 10k$ and spent on some nice things.

At some point most of us will sell,it's just a matter of time and the price we want to sell.

14542  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin for $1 Million !!! In ten years? on: November 25, 2017, 05:27:33 PM
Is it possible that in ten years bitcoin worth 1 million $?Of course it is possible, but in my opinion it is difficult to achieve that goal.To achieve this, there should be a steady growth of 50%+ over the next 10 years, which certainly is not impossible if we take into account this year's level of growth.
If you look into the top of the chart, you will see the annual growth mentioned there:
2012 -  694%
2013  - 446%
2014  - 339%
and so on.

- so far growth is much more that 50% a year.

1 year ago price was about $1k - which means 8x (!) increase over a single last year  Wink

This is true,BTC price increase is incredible over the years, and this year is really great. The question is whether such growth can continue in the next ten years, because in that case we will reach 1 million $ long before the period of ten years.I just gave an example what price will be if we have only 50% increase every year. But we do not know how hard/easy will be to go from 10k$ to 100k$,high price will probably bring a slower growth.
14543  Economy / Speculation / Re: We are heading $9,000 next week? on: November 25, 2017, 01:44:57 PM
We are now at 8600$ and 9k$ is so close that can be achieved at any time,it is very likely that this will happen next week. What most people expect is to see end of this year at 10k$ and many will take advantage of that opportunity to sell some amount of BTC for holidays or just to take some profits when correction occurs.Demand for BTC is constant,it will probably be even bigger when bitcoin futures is launched next month, how much it will actually have an impact on the price?
14544  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Legalization or public awareness? on: November 25, 2017, 11:51:22 AM
As we all know some countries are banning cryptocurrencies. But are the people aware of its existence?

It is true that BTC is illegal in some countries, but I think it was expected when we know that different people think differently and different countries have different opinions in terms of some things, and that including BTC.But when we look at the countries who ban/declared BTC as illegal we may see they come from all continents and there is poor and well-established countries.I do not know it is true, but one country which banned BTC is Iceland, and there is a list of few more: Bangladesh,Taiwan,Kyrgyzstan,Bolivia,Ecuador,Vietnam and recently Morocco.

Regarding your second question, are you asking people are aware of cryptocurrency or that their countries make them illegal?

I think that the knowledge of the existence of BTC and any other cryptocoin is still relatively small if we consider the whole world, but it is certain that every day it increases more and more.
14545  Bitcoin / Press / [2017-11-25]-Chicago Board Options Exchange to Launch Bitcoin Futures... on: November 25, 2017, 11:13:26 AM
Chicago Board Options Exchange to Launch Bitcoin Futures, Announces Specifics

The Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) has released its new Bitcoin derivative contract specifications in late November 2017, with the product itself to be introduced in the market in the next few weeks. With the move, the exchange follows other financial institutions in introducing Bitcoin futures products.

The CBOE will use the XBT ticker for its new products. The ticker is exactly the same as the one being used by Bitcoin exchange Kraken in its platform. It is also expected that CBOE will introduce different types of contracts in the near future in its bid to secure a major market share quickly. The product launching, however, will be mainly dependent on the performance of its new products.

https://cointelegraph.com/news/chicago-board-options-exchange-to-launch-bitcoin-futures-announces-specifics

It seems that big players prepare the terrain for entry in BTC,and some who are very critical now slowly changing their opinion. Some think that BTC futures will be good for BTC only short term, others think that this will be the main factor which will boost BTC price up.In any case we can only wait and see how good or bad this will be.

So if we end this year with 10 000$ price and try to calculate that price increase 50% for next ten years we get this numbers:

2017. 10 000$

2018. 15 000$
2019. 22 500$
2020. 33 750$ (halving)
2021. 50 625$
2022. 75 937$
2023. 113 905$
2024. 170 857$(halving)
2025. 256 185$
2026. 384 427$
2027. 576 640$

2028. 864 960$(halving)

It would be wonderful if half of these speculations become a reality,I personally aim at 100k per BTC and I am hope to see that price in next 5 years Smiley
14547  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Bitcoin from electrum wallet stolen on: November 24, 2017, 04:44:59 PM
Someone stole on tuesday 16.13 BTC from my electrum wallet

the coins were here

162Q35GC13aFaF6XVRpibVddpjSCbsFkaF

and now most of the coins are here now
1K44FRM82amtFBNY6kcJaMb5uUMKDtpoKN

I will pay 3 BTC reward if you can help me track them down or if you can get me the coins back

I had my wallet.dat file encrypted and my password wasnt saved anywhere, I also use ubuntu on my machine so, I would like to know how they were able t steal my coins.

You've already opened thread and ask same question here : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2436882.0

Unfortunately chance of getting back your BTC is almost 0,only if hacker return coins to you/or if he made a mistake and left some trace so that you can take some measures. So you really need a miracle to change this bad situation to your advantage.

In first thread you say 16.2 BTC is stolen, now you say it is 16.13BTC and this is the third account you are using for bringing this issue?
14548  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many people paid their debt and reached ROI status with Bitcoin? on: November 24, 2017, 04:27:04 PM
Your friend should use that money and pay debt,It's the only logical move. But I know that problem is that he need to sell his BTC so when he do that there is no more profit for him.So he can risk and wait to BTC price increase more, but question is whether the debt rise in the meantime or not?

As for me I'm not in debt, but I would not risk if I have chance to pay and get rid of it.Some people can live and ignore their debts and defer payments as long as possible, others take the first opportunity to pay the debt.
14549  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Bitcoin cash 2000$ after new year or before? on: November 24, 2017, 02:05:29 PM
Today price is around 1650$ and it is slowly growing thanks to South Korea exchange Bithumb through which most of the trading takes place. It is the same exchange used for previous big pump, the only thing that's different now that they are doing this pump relatively quietly.

Data from Bithumb say that trading volume was above 4 billion $ and and it shows us that something serious happens.Certainly it is possible to BCH reach 2000$ before end of this year.I am not supporter of Roger and his coin, but if we can profit and buy some BTC why not Smiley
14550  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: PSA: Black Friday deals for Hardware Wallets on: November 24, 2017, 01:35:19 PM
For some time I have an intention to get one hardware wallet and the doubt was between Ledger Nano S/Trezor.I wait Black Friday offer and Ledger is by me the best choice because they offer 21% discount.I think Trezor is not doing good promotion from one customer stand, but it is good if you have some friends who also need hardware wallet.

If you've been considering buying a Hardware Wallet... this could be the weekend to do it!

I fully agree, this is a great opportunity to buy hardware wallet and secure your coins Smiley
14551  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Import vs sweep private key in Electrum on: November 24, 2017, 11:50:07 AM
I want to (Transfer) sweep BTC from Electrum Wallet A to Electrum Wallet B

a) I export the private keys in wallet A

      - I tried CSV, JSON, copy and paste

b) I use "sweep" in wallet B (I have used all three ways from a)

However, the sweep button stays grayed out, i.e. is not functional.

What am I missing?

In general that sweep button stay gray in case if private key is not valid or it is encrypted so Electrum just does not recognize private key. There also can be problem with sweep if you have some unconfirmed transactions connected with that private keys.Since you want to transfer BTC to new wallet if sweep option is not work just send them from wallet A to wallet B like Abdussamad advised you.
14552  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-11-24] Intense Web Scans Going on for Bitcoin and Ethereum Wallets on: November 24, 2017, 11:28:47 AM
Given the price and practically complete anonymity stealing of BTC and ETH becomes a lucrative job for hackers to deal with.Every day we can see that people report hacking of their wallets, though they think that they have taken very good security measures.I do not think we are aware of all the ways hackers use with the intent to steal BTC,ETH or any other coin.

What we can do to secure our desktop wallets is to have clean PC without any virus/malware and use only best security software to keep our PC clean all time. For online wallets use strong password+2FA and also e-mail with unique and strong paswword.

But best way so far is to use hardware wallets, especially if you receive/send coins on daily basis.Others option is paper wallet for cold storage and to use two PC where one is never connected to internet(cold storage wallet), and second one with watch only wallet for broadcasting transaction.
14553  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin UP BitCoinCash DOWN on: November 23, 2017, 02:57:35 PM
According to Coinmarketcap BCH is up by 16% in last 24 hours with price something a little less then 1500$,but I see it was even higher few hours ago.I was thinking that after that pump price is going under 1000$ but Roger and his team do not surrender so easily.Luckily bitcoin is recovered and it is above 8000$ almost all time, and by this is proven that it can not be easily removed from the throne.

What you think about reason BCH price is pretty high these days,is ordinary people buy BCH or Roger is playing some background games?
14554  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is It advisable to quit my present job for bitcoin? on: November 23, 2017, 02:35:14 PM
Bitcoin trading these days has become so rucreative that I am tempted to quit my present job which is not giving me enough time to explore more out of bitcoin world...

What's your take on this, should I go ahead and quit?

Thanks

If you're in a country where wages are too small and you think you can earn much more with trading with cryptocurrency then why not quit with your present job and start make some serious money. But as many advised you better try to trading combining it with your present job.I do not know how much experience you have with trading, but it is very risky job and you have to learn a lot to become an experienced trader.

Some make big profits on trading, but some others lose everything they have-beginners success very often can be misleading. My advice is to think well before quit your present job.
14555  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: someone stole my bitcoin from an encrypted electrum wallet on: November 23, 2017, 11:55:19 AM
thanks everyone for the answers

i think electrum users are targeted with this attack from pornhub

I have seen a video from john mcafee talking about the dangers of porn sites and were he warned explicitly users of pornsites and even said in this video that 1 day users of porn sites will wake up and have their wallets emptied

Here is the video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GuWvIeQpd4A

John McAfee is right about some things regarding security, there is too many infected devices and most of users do not take care too much about their online security. This is one of the reason why there is so many hacks of BTC wallets on desktop PC and probably on mobile devices where security is on more lower level.

He just gives an example of porn sites as a potential source of infection, but you can get virus/malware on almost any site you visit.I agree that hardware wallets should be the best option to keep coins safe,so far they proved impossible to hack.
14556  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-11-22] Bitcoin Price to End Year at $10,000: Mike Novogratz on: November 23, 2017, 11:05:00 AM
These days price is in range from 8000-8300$ with one drop under 8000$ but with fast recovery.Only thing that can push price to 10000$ is CME and their plans to start bitcoin futures.Since they need BTC for that it is expected that demand will increase and push price up to 10k$ or even more.

So Mike is in very easy position with his prediction,we all know there is a great chances that this happens. What is more interesting now is predictions for next year, with all this money which is ready to be invested in BTC 14k or something like this seems pretty low.

14557  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What Will Bitcoin Look Like in Ten Years? on: November 23, 2017, 10:41:56 AM
I think it is difficult to predict how BTC will look in next year, and for ten years most of the world may use it or it may disappear completely.Bitcoin future depends on many factors and some of the most important are is his technical development and regulation by the major states of the world.Since we live in digital age bitcoin seems to be quite logical step forward in the world of finance and currency.

In next ten years there will be 3 halving which will significantly reduce the amount of new coins, and if demand for BTC increase over the years it will mean quite a large increase in price. If price go up only 50% every year from now we would have 1 BTC worth around 800 000$.
14558  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Should I Be Scared Of Hackers If I Have Lot of BTC. on: November 22, 2017, 03:47:16 PM
Unfortunately many users report that they are hacked and that their coins are stolen, and most of them use online wallets-but recently many users report they desktop (Electrum) wallet are hacked.Only way to pretect BTC is to move it from hot wallets of any type and create paper wallet/cold storage-but most effective way is hardware wallet since you can use it every day and your coins will be safe.

What I would recommend to anyone who wants to protect coins is to check some of hardware wallets on this Black Friday,I just got e-mail that Ledger Nano S price will go down by 21%.
14559  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: someone stole my bitcoin from an encrypted electrum wallet on: November 22, 2017, 11:14:38 AM
no i dont think anyone has access to my laptop

and it seems only my electrum wallet is compromissed, i had 501 BTC on a different wallet and nothing happened, none of my email accounts facebook, or any other crypto platform seems to be affected.

The last 3 months i travelled 3 times to asia and holand finland austria and some other countries and unforutatly i used public wifi alot without vpn

the weird thing is my electrum wallet was encrypted, so i dont know how the gained access to that cause i dont write down passwords anywhere

Almost there is no day to get at least one user of Electrum wallet who was hacked and lost their BTC.It seems to me that there is something specially targeted and attacking users of Electrum on all operating systems and no matter what type of protection they use.

You probably picked up something when using that public wi-fi,but it is strange that only Electrum is affected. It seems that the only correct and safe way to store BTC is hardware wallet/paper wallet/cold storage.

The conclusion is clear, regardless of the steps that we can take to secure our desktop hot wallets they simply are not safe anymore.
14560  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Does revealing one private key spoil the seed? on: November 22, 2017, 10:53:38 AM
I would be interested to know the theory behind this.  If the only attack is that you could try a bunch of random seeds and try to find one that generates a given private key, that's not any more viable than trying a bunch of random seeds and finding one that generates a given address.  So what is the mechanism by which you can reverse engineer a seed from one or more private keys?

I think it's difficult to give a precise answer to this question, and I'm not really familiar with the technique that would make it possible to create seed just from one private key. There is also very little discussion about it,although most agree that exposure of private key from Electrum may endanger the safety of whole wallet. What I was found that if you expose one private key+master public key it is possible to get your master private key.

There is one interesting discussion on this subject you can read and if you use search option on forum maybe you find something else.
