No mention for the Brave browser in a crypto board is quite strange, I started to use it in both PC and smartphone, it's pretty good!

If you are looking for a browser you can just download and run with, with minimal set up or configuration, then I agree Brave is probably the best "out of the box". However, Firefox supports much more advanced add-ons, just a few of which I have linked to above, and also allows a lot of customization and tweaks through about:config and "user.js" configurations. I haven't used Brave for several months, but last time I did it was absolutely horrible for browser fingerprinting. I'd be keen to know if that has changed?

If you don't want to configure Firefox, then Brave is a better choice, but a properly configured and customized Firefox browser is better than Brave in terms of privacy and security.

It's not a whale, but solely Coinbase performing maintenance that will result in a better (i.e. more secure) distribution of coins, and probably also to claim the fork coins.

Thank you. This has been discussed several times before, and I made a similar post debunking all this panic a few weeks ago here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5079682.msg48430890#msg48430890

All the addresses on that list can be traced back to the following 9 addresses which were loaded up with ~66,000BTC each in 2013: https://www.blockchain.com/btc/tx/a289ea76bcc396412e90d63b90eb462ea2adb326aa027d5a1bb8864c7c152012

Some of these addresses were emptied 18 months ago before the big bull run. Some of them are being emptied now. It bears no relation to the market. It is simply Coinbase securing their cold storage.

I had not heard of Netcraft before - I'll be looking in to it, thanks for that. And a definite +1 from me for NoScript. For security, I'd also recommend using HTTPS everywhere:

Good to see you are also using uBlock and minerBlock from your screenshots. Other great add-ons from a privacy rather than a phishing point of view are:

14584  Economy / Economics / Re: What will you do in 2030? on: December 18, 2018, 03:39:57 PM
It just keeps spiralling down, meaning you have to work more and more to be able to afford the same things

This is the crux of the matter. A couple of generations ago it was commonplace for only one member of a household to work. It was completely feasible to afford a mortgage and living expenses for a family (which generally had more children than families do now) on one salary, while the other adult in the household stayed at home. This was even possible for people with laborer or blue-collar type jobs. Now we are seeing couples who both work full time, in all fields of employment, in some cases both with advanced degrees and above-average paying jobs, who are struggling to get on the property ladder or afford to have children. It's a non-sustainable model for any country, and long-term collapse of the pension system is only one of the problems it will bring.

^  There's also another hilarious candidate.  DAVID MOYES.  Lololol.  I can see 'Moyesy Legend' banners and flags in my head right now.  Cheesy

I mean, Moyes does still have 5 months left on his original contract, which for some unimaginable reason was 6 years long.

Couples of posts going around twitter at the moment about bringing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer back from Norway for the rest of the season. Loved by the fans, but a very strange choice if it did happen.

Inspect that same graphic on the different European countries. Many are hitting an inverse pyramid demographic graphic, so it's basically game over for state pensions

You are absolutely right. Look at some of the worst affected European countries below. In Germany, there are more than double the number of people in the 50-54 age range than in the 0-4 or 5-9 ranges. This is going to be a huge problem in about 15-20 years. If anyone is interested in looking at your own country, you can access all the data here: https://www.indexmundi.com/factbook/regions

Will giants like Coke still be a good pick for some passive income through dividends by then?

Soft drink consumption per capita has been decreasing pretty steadily for the last 10 years or so in developed nations, given the emerging health risks and increasing government lobbying and taxes on these drinks and their sugar contents. However, these markets are growing in the developing world as disposable incomes rise.

I'm completely biased in my view here since it is tied to the industry in which I work, so don't take this as investment advice, but I think bio-engineering will be huge in the future. We are rapidly approaching a stage where antibiotics do not work, and we have selectively bred "superbugs" which are resistant to all known antibiotics. Technology such as CRISPR is the next stage in treating infection and preventing worldwide epidemics. Not to mention that gene editing could also offer a cure for some cancers and some inheritable diseases like cystic fibrosis.
14587  Economy / Economics / Re: Ohio Congressman: We can fund border wall with “WallCoin” ICO on: December 18, 2018, 12:08:58 PM
The bottom line is that this will never be funded. Estimates currently put the cost of his wall at anywhere between $20 billion and $70 billion. Given that the most lucrative ICO of all time to date raised $4 billion worldwide, there is absolutely zero chance that "WallCoin" will raise the required funds based solely within the US. This is obvious to anyone.

The question is, then, that if this does go ahead, what will they do with the money they do raise when it isn't enough? Will they return it all? Or will they find some other way of funneling it in to the pockets of politicians and/or Trump's businesses. I suspect the later.
14588  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: December 18, 2018, 11:57:20 AM
For now, it seems like they're going to get an interim (probably Carrick) until the end of the season.

I hear they are bringing in Big Sam to save them from relegation. Grin

A bit concerning that they are going for a caretaker for the rest of the season though? Apparently it's going to be someone external, so that rules out both Carrick and McKenna. Not sure who would take the caretaker role? Hiddink?
14589  Other / Meta / Re: Top 200 Merit receivers without Merit from the Top 200 Merit receivers on: December 17, 2018, 11:15:05 PM
I will merit whom I please

Exactly! People are free to merit whomever the please. If this rule applies to you, why does it not apply to the top 200 merit receivers/senders/sources or the Meta board, against which you seem to have some sort of personal vendetta?

Look, I agree that Altcoin Discussion needs to be improved, and I have no doubt that in amongst the piles and piles of shitposts there are a handful of good posters who go unrecognized. The fact is, no one has the time or energy to spend hours digging through 100+ pages of trash to find the one or two good posts worthy of a merit. If you want to improve things, then your energy would be better spent reporting posts for deletion and threads for locking than it would be rampaging in Meta against some perceived "inner circle of merits". Especially since theymos agrees with the whole "I will merit whomever I please" thing.

Aside from that, if people complain about whether things deserve merit at all, then that's something to perhaps think about, but if you conclude that they're wrong, then that's that. You don't need to stress about it or defend yourself constantly.

14590  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It's 2040, the last bitcoin was just mined... on: December 17, 2018, 08:25:14 PM
Don't forget the number of coins that will best lost forever in the next 120 years. Estimates are that we have lost 4 million coins so far, or 20% of the maximum supply, in under 10 years. Now obviously people were careless in the early days so the rate of loss will drastically reduce, but we still have to factor in 120 years of hardware failure, forgetting passwords, losing seeds, or simply dying without telling others how to access their coins. I don't think it is unreasonable to expect by 2140 that somewhere in the region of 40-50% of bitcoins may be lost forever, which will obviously have a huge impact on the price, if bitcoin still exists.
14591  Economy / Economics / Re: What will you do in 2030? on: December 17, 2018, 07:45:25 PM
I hope to be still alive and working, as I don't care for idle hands all that much.

With you there. I have no doubt that by the time I reach current state pension age, the age requirement will have increased by 5-10 years and the pension will be laughable, if there at all. I have absolutely no intention of relying on the state pension, even in part, for my retirement fund. Luckily, I have a job that is well paying - which makes it that much easier to invest for retirement - and which I actually enjoy. I have no plans to push for an early retirement, and my job is such that I could restructure my duties, drop my on-calls, and go down to some relatively lighter part-time work without much hassle.

As to the fate of bitcoin in 11 years, I'll echo what Satoshi said 9 years ago - "there will either be very large transaction volume or no volume".
14592  Other / Meta / Re: Top 200 Merit Receivers without Merit from the Top 200 Merit Receivers on: December 17, 2018, 04:50:52 PM
The problem is really that the top merit hoarders are hoping somehow to becoming merit sources, DT members and MODs. This is leading to a centralised power here that should be prevented before it goes to far. Already they are close to such a goal.

According to who? Is theymos telling you some secret criteria he uses to pick mods? Can you provide evidence of a single case where a member was added to Default Trust or chosen to be a moderator based on their merit score?
14593  Economy / Economics / Re: What will you do in 2030? on: December 17, 2018, 04:44:07 PM
By the time I'm proper old I'll be amazed if there's a state pension of any sort.

We haven't even hit peak baby boomer yet. The number of adults who are retired and claiming pension is increasing. Look at this chart for the US, for example:

Look particularly at the 50-64 age ranges which are relatively larger, and the 5-19 age ranges which are relatively smaller. In the next 10-15 years, all those baby boomers will be hitting pensionable age, whilst a lower number of Generation Zs will be taking their place. On top of that Millennials are having less children, and so the trend is only going to get worse, with a growing elderly population and a shrinking workforce.
14594  Economy / Speculation / Re: Which Coins will be the top 10 on market cap in 2019? on: December 17, 2018, 02:47:10 PM
3. USDT
...
these coins above will soar beyond expected this 2019.

Um, that's not how stablecoins work. Where is going to soar to? From $0.99 to $1.01?

Regardless, unless there has been some huge development in the last week or so I am unaware of, USDT are still refusing an external audit and therefore there is absolutely zero proof that they are actually backed up 1:1 with USD as they claim.
14595  Other / Meta / Re: Top 200 Merit receivers without Merit from the Top 200 Merit receivers on: December 17, 2018, 02:38:45 PM
As I said before remove the top 300 (circle and those desperate to enter the circle) and the circlers fav sub board meta board and you will see people lose average of 80% or greater some over 90%.

So remove all the merit sources, and remove one of the least spammy boards, and people will have less merit. I'm not sure why you think this is some big scandal or conspiracy.

Incidentally, if you take r1s2g3's data, sum the "Total Merit" column, sum the "Merits in Meta" column, divide the two and multiply by 100, the result is 26.9%. Even if you remove the 50 profiles who have earned zero merits in meta, the number is still only 33.9%.
14596  Other / Meta / Re: Forum is now Deleting Negative Posts - Imagine Reality if the Negative Stayed? on: December 17, 2018, 11:10:56 AM
I feel like I should chip in here since I reported several of btc-room101's posts yesterday, which were all marked as good. As pointed out, several were for multi-posting, and a couple were for whole threads in the wrong section - one was a thread speculating on the price by Christmas posted in Bitcoin Discussion, for example. I have never reported a post simply for disagreeing with it, and I have never seen a person who complains about being censored on these forums having an actual case - they are always breaking a forum rule.

The fact that he regularly churns out 5 new topics and 20 new posts in the space of an hour, all with the same jumbled, barely comprehensible word salad, peppered with calling everyone else on the forum a moron and batshit insane, and that 98% of his posts aren't deleted, is proof enough that he isn't being censored for his opinions, but only when he breaks other forum rules. The fact is that his trolling would have resulted in a ban a long time ago on many other forums - the fact he is still allowed to post the same nonsense 20 times a day about how we are all retards, bitcoin is dead, and the Chinese own everything is testament to the non-censorship policies and moderation in bitcointalk.

Regardless, if you are really having so much trouble following the few rules we do have, and think that that somehow equates to being censored, you are more than welcome to go and start your own forum.

This is all I see.. :/

Looks like you've been credited with your default picks now that the week is over.

Isn't there a prize for making the highest score for one set of fixtures?

Yes. 0.01 for the user who scores the most in a single week, and 4 runner-up prizes of 0.005 (your entry fee back).

I did a 2-0, thinking it'd be a tight game.

I did 2-1 for the same reasoning. The game was so one sided though. Liverpool could easily have had 4 or 5.
14598  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: December 16, 2018, 09:06:37 PM
Man Utd really are shit now aren’t they! Enjoy your night my brother Smiley

As someone with a good friend who is a huge United fan, having put up with his gloating all throughout the Ferguson years, it does feel good to be able to rub this season in his face. United's goal difference is 0. They are closer in points to last place than first place. That game was much more one-sided than the scoreline suggests:

36 shots to 6. Unbelievable. United will be very lucky to finish top 6.
14599  Economy / Reputation / Re: Users abusing merit to level up their alts to Junior Member on: December 16, 2018, 07:21:26 PM
This thread was intended to catch alt farms in the days following the new "1 merit to display a signature rule". It was not made for general posts about merit abusers. If you wish to start your own thread, feel free, but be aware that anything short of selling merit is unlikely to end up in any action being taken, as per previous posts by theymos.

Locking thread.
14600  Other / Meta / Re: And i want to see where is my mistake too, Account was banned on: December 16, 2018, 04:20:44 PM
That backfired Cheesy

I know, right? Usually it's newbies who get themselves banned for plagiarism after drawing attention themselves by complaining about not getting merits, or a bunch of connected junior member accounts outing themselves after one account gets banned. You don't usually see hero accounts that get banned due to their own stupidity.
