Is Microsoft really claiming that they can create a better, more secure currency than bitcoin in 20 minutes??

Microsoft wants to make Bitcoin easier for banks

Microsoft no longer solely counts on Windows 10 to pay the bills. With CEO Satya Nadella at the helm, it's also betting heavily on cloud services, and just revealed an interesting new one: Bitcoin-style encryption. Redmond joined forces with startup ConsenSys on a platform called Ethereum to help business to play around with the blockchain tech used in crypto-currency. The move is well-timed, as banks are starting to get seriously interested in BItcoin-style currency. However, Microsoft said that Bitcoin applications are "just scratching the surface of what can be done when you mix cryptographic security [with the] reliability of blockchain."

The tech can also be used to secure and verify the exchange of any data, which will make it useful to other industries. Via simple templates, companies can create blockchain-based "smart contracts," for instance. However, the main attraction of the tech is still Bitcoin-style money, something that still befuddles financial institutions. Microsoft's tech would let use peer-to-peer networks and "consensus-formation algorithm" to secure the Ethereum-based currency, just like Bitcoin. However they could create their own, far more secure currency than Bitcoin in just 20 minutes and update the value every 15 seconds -- 40 times faster than Bitcoin.

http://www.engadget.com/2015/11/11/microsoft-bitcoin-currency-banks/

edit:  The article says Microsoft is the source of this info, but I think the "20 minute currency, more secure than bitcoin" comment is the author's snide remark.  Who knows??

Hmm, maybe they are saying they can build a currency on Etherium in 20 minutes. Which should be possible, I don't know if it makes sense since everything you would do with that currency would then cost you ether, granted not much but it's still a cost. However, I don't know what it means when they say "update the value".

The writer's representation is quite misleading. There is nothing to get excited about. Microsoft is not creating a digital currency or helping the banks to build one. Creating a new currency in 20 minutes, 5 minutes or over a weekend and make the transaction confirmation faster than Bitcoin is not an issue of any significance. Building a trusted brand with lasting fundamental value that will eventually lead to mass acceptance as a medium of exchange is the biggest challenge of all that none other that DNotes is willing to undertake. This is what we are committed to do and we are continuing to build the building blocks and deploy them one at a time.

This is a fairly lengthy article but a good representation on the “state” of the industry, especially as it relates to Bitcoin and digital currency. It is a clear expression of frustration that there is an abandonment of Bitcoin. “{watching as intellectuals and “thought leaders,” financial industry executives, technologists and even the media itself have fallen in love with “the blockchain,” “distributed ledgers”}”

Our industry is quite definitely going through another period of adjustment. The significant price increase in Bitcoin seems to be hurting altcoins this time, perhaps because the high price of Bitcoin is not the result of increased demand by price manipulation. We may just have to wait this one out until things settle a little more.

DNotes is very well positioned for 2016. With all the new development, I am even more certain we have been correct all along that the only way for a digital currency to gain mass acceptance is to have our own ecosystem and a for profit company to substantiate its value and be the party to promote and protect the interest of the currency and its stakeholders.

It has been a bit amusing watching as intellectuals and “thought leaders,” financial industry executives, technologists and even the media itself have fallen in love with “the blockchain,” “distributed ledgers” and other phrases to talk about the innovation happening in how trust and value exchange work on the Internet.

Notably absent from this high-minded and purportedly insightful thinking is reference to bitcoin, the actual open platform that distributes trust and provides a highly secure ledger to exchange value around the world.

If bitcoin is referenced, it’s dismissively, as if smart people are in the know that bitcoin (the digital asset) isn’t necessary or important to fueling this global network of distributed and decentralized trust. For the most part, it’s just a cop-out and intellectual laziness; I have yet to meet anyone who shares these thoughts who actually has any idea how any of the technology actually works.  ……………….

Everyone, it’s okay to say the word “bitcoin” and acknowledge that it is the actual platform that is driving this innovation that we’re all building on. It’s also okay to say “the bitcoin blockchain,” or “the blockchain,” if you’re afraid that people will think you’re weird. But until someone actually builds, ships and scales a global open platform, open like the rest of the Internet, that can do what the bitcoin blockchain can today, there’s really nothing else to talk about.

Blockchain combined with Bitcoin is an amazing technology and invention, and it is Bitcoin that drives the decentralized model. However, in the tech industry, where the latest and greatest advancements drive excitement and lots of investment money, there is a lot more opportunity to create something new in the blockchain space. The innovation in the Bitcoin space is less tech driven and the bigger innovations will come from financial services and usability, which is much less exciting. There are also significant hurdles in the Bitcoin space, which are limiting innovation in financial services, that is the result of poor regulation and demonization of Bitcoin, making it much easier to start a blockchain business.

DNotes, with long term goals and an ecosystem that depends on the currency will be able to overcome those obstacles that Bitcoin faces for the long term best interest of DNotes.

I think this sentence says it all: " I have yet to meet anyone who shares these thoughts who actually has any idea how any of the technology actually works." There is the disconnect because there is a serious lack of understanding and familiarity with the technology. Everyone wants to be "in" on the latest tech but they don't want to take the time to understand it. And, to some, "blockchain" is safe while "Bitcoin" represents a threat.

It is becoming so important to educate the public that I believe the industry will soon prosper or, fail depending on the level of public understanding and knowledge. I'm not a conspiracy nut and I don't see men in black suits around every corner but, consider this: if banks feel threatened by crypto in general, would it not make sense to attack from the inside by misdirecting the public's perception of the technology?

People are hearing about blockchain solutions to problems that don't really exist and not Bitcoin or other cryptos. It's as if the coins don't really have any innovation other than using the magical "bloakchain" technology. This my friends, will be our downfall unless we put forth our very best efforts to educate and correct the course being set by the banks for our technology.

Here's a prime example of what I'm talking about:

http://www.coindesk.com/jamie-dimon-bitcoin-will-not-survive/

This guy has one purpose and one only, to extend the life of the current corrupt system as long as he can. In this article, Dimon says "This is my personal opinion, there will be no real, non-controlled currency in the world. There is no government that's going to put up with it for long ... there will be no currency that gets around government controls." He doesn't get it, getting around govt controls is really not the point except maybe for some altcoins who's purpose IS based on that.

But, then he goes on to say about blockchain technology "The technology will be used, it may even be used to transport currency but it will be US dollars." This is how the banks will save their corrupt, rotting, inefficient systems by misdirection and appearing to embrace the technology when in reality, they are doing everything possible to kill it and take the core for themselves.

So, get out there and educate! And, most important, never, ever trust a banker...

RJF, you are absolutely correct. Most people just don't get it and it does not help to a banker like Jamoe Dimon promoting a hidden agenda so that they can continue to enrich themselves. We are committed to stay the course and continue to do the "missionary work" we always believe to be highly essential. Long live DCEBrief!

Satoshi Nakamoto has been nominated for a nobel prize!

Bitcoin inventor 'Satoshi Nakamoto' nominated for Nobel Prize in Economics  -  http://news.yahoo.com/bitcoin-inventor-satoshi-nakamoto-nominated

The inventor of bitcoin has been nominated for the 2016 Nobel Prize in Economics, despite no one knowing who the person actually is. The pseudonymous Satoshi Nakamoto is recognised as the creator of the cryptocurrency but various attempts to unmask Nakamoto's identity have proved unsuccessful.

Nakamoto's nomination comes from UCLA Professor of Finance Bhagwan Chowdhry, who was invited by the Nobel Prize committee to nominate someone for the 2016 prize. The digital currency technology was first described in a 2008 paper published under Nakamoto's name, which detailed a "peer-to-peer electronic cash system".

Chowdhry described the invention of bitcoin as "nothing short of revolutionary" in a Huffington Post blog detailing his decision. Bitcoin's underlying block-chain technology was also cited for spawning major innovations in the FinTech space.

"The invention of bitcoin − a digital currency − is nothing short of revolutionary," Chowdhry wrote. "It offers many advantages over both physical and paper currencies. It is secure, relying on almost unbreakable cryptographic code, can be divided into millions of smaller sub-units, and can be transferred securely and nearly instantaneously from one person to any other person in the world with access to internet bypassing governments, central banks and financial intermediaries, such as Visa, Mastercard, Paypal or commercial banks, eliminating time delays and transaction costs."

Previous attempts to reveal Nakamoto's identity have failed to deliver any concrete proof, though some believe that evidence points to cryptographic expert Nick Szabo. A five-month investigation by the author and financial writer Dominic Frisby concluded that Szabo is the only candidate capable of creating the world's most famous cryptocurrency.

Szabo has denied the claims to both Frisby privately and on Twitter publicly. Szabo's own privacy is closely protected, with very little information beyond his own blog and various academic involvements actually known. Whether or not Nakamoto is in fact Szabo, Chowdhry believes that the Nobel Prize nomination is unlikely to tempt the bitcoin's creator out of hiding.

"He will most likely not appear in person − and reveal his true identity given that he has chosen to remain anonymous all his life − to accept the award in Stockholm, Sweden in the formal ceremony in December," wrote Chowdhry. "I would be happy to go and accept the Prize on his behalf. What about the acceptance speech? That won't be any problem either. He can write his speech, digitally sign it and send it to me securely. I would, of course, rehearse and deliver it on his behalf at the Prize ceremony."

I agree with every word of UCLA Professor of Finance Bhagwan Chowdhry.

If I were given the privilege to vote, I too, would nominate Satoshi Nakamoto for the 2016 Nobel Prize in Economics. The digital currency Satoshi invented is absolutely revolutionary. The DNotes team is dedicated to promote and protect the Digital Currency component of Satoshi's creation; and not limited to just the Blockchain technology like what the big banks are doing.

Hi NOTECoin Members,  i had a few questions about specs.

1.  Confirm received?
2.  Confirm rewards?
3.  Minimum coin age till mature?
4.  Average reward?

Welcome to DNotes forum, fitinplace. DNotes is based on proof of work (POW) and not proof of stake (POS) as your questions seemed to suggest. Our rewards are issued to miners for securing the network - 25 DNotes per block at the rate of 1 minute block time or about 36,000 new DNotes issued per day.

DNotes is positioned as a long term investment. It is more than just another digital currency. We have invested heavily in building our own ecosystem which includes CryptoMoms, a currency neutral to encourage to encourage women participation, DCEBrief an industry news site, DNotesVault, a secure storage vault with 100% verifiable fund guarantee for the convenience of our stakeholders. Uniquely different is our family of CRISP (Cryptocurrency Investment Savings Plan) for children, students. retirement, and employees incentive benefits. If you are a long term investor, I strongly recommend that you check out CRISP For Retirement. They are paid interest of up to 12% from a pool of 1 million DNotes donated by a few major stakeholders.   http://dnotesvault.com/crisp-for-retirement.php

Looking forward to trading BTC/NOTE on Cryptopia -- just gotta scuttle into town to organise a Bitcoin buy!

Thanks, Mark. I have been so busy I have not even had a chance to check it out. Just taking a break and stopped in to say hello. Cryptopia could be good for us.

Had a conference call with Tim and Alan yesterday, one of the things we would like to do is promote CRISP for Kids and CRISP for Students a bit more utilizing DCEBrief. Who or what organizations could we have for guest speakers on DCEBrief that might be interested in writing on these subjects?

Here are a couple articles that I have sent to Nick to see if he would be willing to write these topics:
The importance of getting children involved in digital currency at an early age.
Developing good saving habits with digital currency for children. (CRISP for Kids)
The importance of getting students involved in digital currency at this early stage of it's development. (CRISP for Students)

I would really like to see these articles written. They will be highly important and relevant to children and students who need more information and want to get started. Excellent topics!

I agree with Marc.  It is said that digital currency and blockchain technology will touch every aspect of our lives, which means every young person wanting a meaningful job will have to be well versed (if not an expert) in the subject.  The impact on this generation if they start investing / saving well thought out choices in digital currency, in the early stages of this industry will be phenomenal.  Wouldn't it be amazing if the phrase 'student debt' disappeared in 15 or 20 years! Smiley

Just dropping in briefly to say Hello to everyone. I have a very tight schedule today and will be gone a good part of tomorrow attending an IoT Meet-Up.

"Blockchain" will be everywhere. This will be the next wave of job and wealth creation. We are fortunate to be in a great position.

One of the real concerns that we need to face is that with volume being so low (less than 1btc often) NOTE will soon risk being de-listed by the major exchanges unless trading picks up.

This is part of what I was trying to say before. To spur interest in NOTE people need to be able to buy it, and to buy it, it needs to remain on exchanges, which to do so it needs to be traded, which means it must be attractive to investors as a speculative instrument, which to do so means people need to feel like something, anything, is happening to drive the platform forwards.

To keep people interested they need to feel like they can make money. This is a simple statement of fact in crypto.

Without any of this, NOTE is just an idea in Alan's notebook. Like it or not, trading drives interest. Without something concrete and hopeful in the future, trade will shrivel and NOTE will disappear from the exchanges altogether. I know you don't like it, but this is a fact. Something needs to happen to galvanise NEW people into wanting to buy and hold NOTE. The technology and the excitement must go hand in hand with the core mission and economic thesis, you can't just have one or the other. Otherwise it becomes an intellectual pursuit in a vaccum with no supporters pushing real money into the ecosystem.

Please just consider this.

First of all, DNotes is not going to be delisted and comments like that are more likely to be chuckled at than taken seriously.

You've made your opionion very clear; I believe this is the third time you have told a team with decades of experience on the world stage in business, how to run things.  We are all here precisely because things are done differently and any of us with real world experience outside of crypto, know it takes more than what you are suggesting to make a global currency.

Having DNotes fly slightly under the radar for a while longer as wild swings in volatility return in bitcoin may not be a bad thing.

"Something needs to happen to galvanise NEW people into wanting to buy and hold NOTE".  I feel like a broken record on this one.  In order for mass adoption of any currency, the support has to come from OUTSIDE Bitcointalk, crypto, and tech.  DNotes has reached more people who haven't a clue about crypto or technology than probably any other coin with the exception of bitcoin being taken up by people in the financial sector.

As far as Alan's notebook goes... If I had a copy of Alan's notebook 20 years ago, I would have written my own book and been a very wealthy woman!!

Maybe it's time for you to re-evaluate your investment objectives.  There are lots of coins that doing nothing but try to keep up with the ever changing technology.

Thank you, Chase. Very well said.

Alan, I really think DNotes is on the right path. When your book comes out, more people will understand how DNotes is being built like a business, and that is something that differentiates it from the competition.

Thanks, Brandon. You are correct. The path that DNotes has chosen is uniquely different for strategic reasons that not everyone can easily grasp. If it is that easy there would not have been that many business failures or so many struggling in the business world today. The book will help "more people (will) understand how DNotes is being built like a business."

The opportunities and challenges for DNotes are of such extreme and massive scale it takes a rare breed, able and willing, to want to even take it on. This task is not for the amateur, the faint-hearted or anyone who lacks the tenacity, drive, and dedication.

As will be reflected in the book, it takes the mastery and skill-sets of a very dedicated leader with the vision to see far into the future, coupled with the ability to turn those strategic plans into multi-missions - each with their own goals and objectives. The leader must create a purposeful and inspiring culture so that other leaders will be born and help pursue those missions. We are builders and have delivered what we promised; a new productive, mutually beneficial culture, in a chaotic industry; a digital currency with a trusted brand, and our own ecosystem that will lead to the formation of a for profit company.

The price of Bitcoin has shot up to $476 this morning. DNotes has held up well so far but over the short term two indicators are of some concern. The buy side is dropping to a new low. Our investors are likely to be running low on Bitcoin and feel reluctant to buy more in fear that the of Bitcoin could pull back sharply after it has doubled in just a few weeks.

The sell side of DNotes has gone up noticeable since DNotes, measured in $, is at an all time high. Some investors are cashing in for Bitcoin and perhaps for cash as well. This is very typical of how free market supply and demand works. Drastic move in either directions often takes time to digest. Bitcoin has been relatively stable for a while, but this new trend could bring back high volatility; good for traders as a speculative commodity and not so good as a medium of exchange.

One thing that came to my attention is a potential need to clarify what CryptoMoms is all about and how it will evolve.

Digital currency doesn't necessarily benefit women any more than it benefits men, we know all the benefits of digital currency and what it can do for humanity, so I don't need to go into those details. The point is that it will benefit women and women's small business. Our goal with CryptoMoms was to create a friendly environment to encourage and assist women to participate in the emerging world of cryptocurrency. However, it doesn't stop there, CryptoMoms, the site as it is now is merely the first step or initial phase for this concept.

The future of the CryptoMoms concept will be to expand the CryptoMoms site and offer tools and useful features to further that mission and create a for profit company around the concept as part of DNotes business model. We also intend to participate in women's small business to help and assist them. There may be a parent company to CryptoMoms, under the DNotes umbrella, with a different name that is more attractive to organizations interested in progressing women's small business, and could work to help women's small business with cost effective business loans and assist in building business plans and the like.

That is just part of the vision for CryptoMoms and how it may evolve. I hope that helps to paint a clearer picture of the objective. It's more about what can the CryptoMoms concept do to encourage and assist woman.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about the CryptoMoms concept, and women's small business, to become the representative and face of CryptoMoms as part of our next steps. It could take a while to find the right fit for this, but that won't stop the progress of the CryptoMoms concept.

Excellent post, Joe. Very accurate representation of our vision, strategic direction, and mission.

Like all big idea, DNotes started small. By all measures, we are still very small and we know our limitations. What we want DNotes to be is far more than another digital currency. We are creating a trusted brand for the future of money and financial technology (FinTech).

It is a very large scale global project, and it is being built block by block. Every block is strategically linked. Strategic positioning, flawless execution at the perfect time, with the right team, structure, culture, and process are all vital to our success.

The book I am working on will not only be immensely helpful to many small business owners by showing and inspiring them to preform at a higher level but also demonstrate to them that cultivating a single mindset to promote mutual cooperation and shared benefits could be the best answer to many struggling business owners and their employees. Good, happy employees are good for the employers but the reverse is also true. A new culture is one that share the mindset that what is good for the company is also good for the employees and the business owner.

I don't know about everyone else, but something that really interests me is the future of cryptocurrency in space. Imagine being able to make secure payments to the furthest reaches of our solar system, utilizing satellite nodes orbiting every planet.

We'll be able to extract rare resources, and send them back to earth. Seamlessly exchanging them for Digital currency, which workers on other planets can either save or spend. They would likely purchase goods collectively, to save money on shipping and handling. Right now it takes 130 days for a high speed transport vessel to reach Mars, but the time will obviously decrease as our technology improves; Making a solar system wide economy completely possible.

I know this sounds like something out of a science fiction movie, but it isn't as far off as you may think...

You're among open minded friends here CryptoBroker. What I found interesting is having nodes in space on the Bitsat system, and the potential benefits and security. Digital currency has no borders or boundaries, if we can go there, so can digital currency, and it might even go places we cannot one day. Very interesting share.

Interesting! I just edited my book to reflect that possibility:

Your business, on the other hand, is an open system. It is dynamic, constantly interacting with other systems, or sub-systems; both internally and externally anywhere worldwide and perhaps even with our settlers on Mars one day!”

Ha, ha. That was just a joke. I am getting bored trying to work on my book all day. It is finally shaping up nicely.

Why the Book?

This is an inspirational book for small business owners, including women small business owners. For the first time I am sharing, in a book format, my winning strategies on how to be the best in class and why everything matters.

It is not so much the end result that you are able to accomplish but your very best efforts in doing everything possible to accomplish the best level of achievement within your reach. If you missed the target, you would have at least aimed your shot at the right direction and ended up close in the neighborhood. Unless you give up prematurely, you will continue to horn in your skill, improving your chances of hitting your target or ending up closer to it eventually. ………

Everything is inter-related. A poor performance in one function is not isolated to that function. It degrades performance everywhere else. Thus weakness in certain areas not only keeps the individual score on that function down, it brings down the final score in other areas. Thus, overall business performance suffers due to the confounding of two effects. Each part of the system helps or hurts other systems………………

Our 2016 roadmap includes aggressively promoting a total package of CRISP for Retirement, CRISP For Employee Incentive Benefits and the book to small business owners, including women small business owners. This will be a major campaign involving third party support and other partnership. Expect a big push to develop our own e-commerce site and global payment networks and other ventures to be launched at the later part of 2016. Developing the right technologies and launching them at the right time are all winning strategies. That is our pathway to deploy DNotes as the medium of exchange.

I'm eagerly awaiting the release of your book. I trust you'll be accepting DNotes?

Thanks, that is the plan. I also plan to have a chapter using DNotes as a use case on a number of strategies and business philosophies discussed in the book and a chapter on using digital currency as a competitive edge. I am passionately committed to help as many people as I can.

Small business formation has dropped from almost 600,000 to about 400,000 per year today with 470,000 closing down at current annual rate. It is a sad fact that many business owners are struggling to keep their business alive while being in poverty themselves. As a small business consultant for a number of years I was often amazed that majority of struggling small business owners pay a huge amount in using high interest credit cards on top of high merchant fees and charge backs. DNotes could make a significant difference. Taking our time to build a trusted brand and a solid foundation are essential before executing our next phase.

Started reaching out to potential influential guest posters for DCEBrief, for the mutual benefit of promoting DCEBrief as well as the individual. if you have anyone in mind that you would like to hear from or feel like would be a good fit, let me know.

Also, plan to have a section dedicated to guest authors, much like the existing list of authors.

Starting tomorrow, Bitcoin.com is having the largest "Ask Me Anything" all-star event ever, on their new forum.  They have a very impressive list of guests, some of which may be great guest posters for DCEBrief.  There is a new guest everyday and it looks like it may go till Christmas.

"all star cast of players in the Bitcoin ecosystem to do Q&A sessions on forum.bitcoin.com"  - https://forum.bitcoin.com/announces/bitcoin-com-ama-event-full-schedule-t1665.html

The Bitcoin.com Forum’s All-Star AMA Event  - https://news.bitcoin.com/bitcoin-com-forums-star-ama-event/

Thoughts on this anyone??

Impressive guest list and a great idea, especially when a lot of Bitcoin ventures are rebranding, away from "Bitcoin" to Blockchain or Cryptocurrency by association. VC funding for "Bitcoin" seems to be drying up too. Our industry is still at its infancy. Any market development is good for all of us.

Thank you for the kind words and support Qiwoman, MWC, and Mati! DNotes philosophy relies heavily on the concept that in order to become successful it must be mutually beneficial to all.

Also, ran across this article (http://forklog.net/comparison-between-proof-of-work-proof-of-stake/) today on forklog comparing POS and POW algorithms in relation to security. Very interesting read. When POS really started to take off, we recognized the benefits but also the downfalls and how they would impact our long term strategy. Ultimately deciding POW is, at the time, the best for DNotes, but who knows what the future may hold.

Excellent article. Very well written. POS was very interesting until we evaluated potential risk factors and the need for technical support. POS has generated a lot of bad user experience. This article laid out potential nightmare, at least in theory, I did not even think off. Scary!

Happy Halloween to you all!

Nick Marinoff, a good friend of ours just joined our team of DCEBrief writers and contributed his first article regarding Student Debt. I thought you might be interested in the following comments. As you may know, serving students is part of our global mission. Here is just another reason why it a worthy mission and how DNotes strive to become a viable medium of exchange one day.

Quote From: Dr. Quincy Chen 10-29-2015
Managing Director in PetroOverseas Group Corporation; Co-founder of Sinostan Consortium and Thinkingtank

Foreign students with F1 visa can not work outside college campus in USA, for example. But now they can work online to make digital currency money used to pay for tuition and expense.

Quote From Alan Yong, Today:

Dr. Chen, that is an excellent point. I have not thought of it that way. Foreign students with F1 student visa are not allowed to work off campus during their first academic year. However, they may work on campus, with limited opportunities and, often, lower pay. Technically, they can seek off-campus employment after the first academic year if they can find the right job and a friendly employer to qualify the student as part of a “practical training” program. It can be quite challenging. I have gone down that route before.

Participating in digital currency can be the best option for F1 students in this kind of situation. They can accept gainful employment anywhere worldwide, earning digital currency to help pay for their studies, or reduce the burden of student debt.

CAN DIGITAL CURRENCY HELP WITH STUDENT DEBT?

Author: Nick Marinoff
https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/can-digital-currency-help-student-debt-nick-marinoff

How bad is the student debt crisis?

At the present time, the average student owes approximately $35K upon graduation. The U.S. holds nearly $1.3 trillion in student loan debt, and considering the rising costs of education, that number is expected to steadily grow over time.

Despite these statistics, only about one-third of working Americans possess bachelor’s degrees. Many look at student loans and ask, “Have banks and other lenders failed us?” Common financial institutions can charge excessively high interest rates to students and regularly steer those rates north. They can also collect late fees whenever students fall into default (which can be quite often), warranting further monies in their secret stashes. Maybe banks haven’t “failed us” per se, but you can bet that by the time a student loan has been paid off, the person in question has given far more than what they originally qualified for.

The nation needs help, and many are wondering if there’s room for digital currency to get behind the wheel and take us in a different direction. Digital currency is big, but it isn’t “Internet big.” Despite its potential and ability to aid unbanked nations, many still prefer the traditionalism behind fiat money, probably due to lack of knowledge or interest.

We’ve all heard the old saying, “Children are the future.” Putting this into perspective, the children of later generations are likely to be the future students of modern-day universities. Therefore, it’s important to train them on the ways of the future, and some of those ways stem from digital currency.

It’s been a slow period of integration, but several businesses, stores and establishments are now enforcing methods of accepting bitcoin and relying on its respective technology. Who would have ever thought you could treat yourself at a nearby restaurant and when the check arrives, you pay with some 1’s and 0’s?

It’s time to not only teach students about digital currency, but work to develop their appreciation for it, and a rewards program just might be the tool we need. Why not offer students the chance to earn bitcoin through school programs? Think about it. Free money for anyone on a path of study… What student wouldn’t want to partake? It’s the same as a scholarship. The University of Washington recently caught wind of the growing trend and brought a bitcoin ATM to its campus in October of last year. Prior, MIT made headlines by establishing the Bitcoin Project and offering $100 in bitcoin to over 4,000 undergrads. Nothing wrong with a little extra textbook money…

Bitcoin alternative DNotes and creator Alan Yong has begun what is known asCRISP (Cryptocurrency Investment Saving Plan). The program allows schools and respective students to sign up for apportion codes which in turn allow them to receive up to 500 free DNotes. Granted the stability of the currency, Yong explains that the potentially high returns offered through DNotes could help students save and receive more over time, thus giving student loans a less-intimidating presence.

Bitcoin and related currencies are here to stay, and the future is being delivered to us now. Offering virtual money to students as a potential reward gives them the chance to further understand what will likely be the primary payment methods 20 to 30 years from now. For the time being, extra money in students’ pockets can help to alleviate some of their ongoing expenses, thus giving the country a chance to bring its debt figures to a halt and discover a much-needed step in what is sure to be a long and arduous war against a growing financial monster.

Can I be honest here?

I read a lot about how DNOTES could theoretically do xyz in some idealized future when crypto runs the world. But nothing about what the technology development of DNOTES is realistically doing right now. What is the development roadmap? What will DNOTES aim to technically achieve in the next 3-6-12 months to make this future a possibility?

I'm talking actual code and releases and shipping solutions, not making press releases, going to expos and having one lily garden center accepting it.

I feel like this thread is 99% smooth talking the talk (of which 75% is either about the DCEBrief website or some random news articles about Bitcoin) and 1% walking any kind of progress walk for the currency itself.

Resassure me here that we're not just stumbling around in some blind circlejerk, posting empty news articles about vague economics and an imaginary future to distract ourselves from the apparent lack of any genuine productized technical direction and progress.

Tell me something real that's going on with DNOTES the cryptocurrency as a technology platform, not just journalism and fluff.

Hi Mochilles,

I have to be honest as well. I haven't read much here that comports with what your first sentence suggests. I don't see anyone here really talking about some sort of Utopian existence where "crypto runs the world." Instead, I see a great deal of conversation about how crypto can serve the world by meeting certain needs that are currently left unfulfilled by existing monetary schemes. Is there idealism here? Of course. There are few people willing to invest this level of time or effort into any enterprise that fails to inspire at least a certain level of idealism. However, there is a marked difference between being reasonably idealistic and succumbing to a Pollyannish worldview. I see little of the latter.

The main disconnect I see in your post is the emphasis on just the technology, and I can understand that. The technology is a common focus for many who are interested in crypto. Still, that techno-centric emphasis often misses the mark when it comes to the long-term importance of the technology itself. Yes, technological innovations are critical, but is it not equally critical that those innovations actually serve a purpose? While DNotes is presently playing its cards close to the vest where specific technology plans are concerned, that does not mean that discussions about how the currency can potentially benefit people are in any way a "circlejerk" (I do have to give you credit for using colorful, though somewhat cringe-worthy, imagery).

Finally, I have to take issue with the use of the words "imaginary future" since the context in which you used them presumes that none of what is envisioned is actually realistic. What people like Alan Yong envision is not an imaginary future that cannot come to pass. It is instead an imagined future, and one that is eminently attainable. However, technology alone will not miraculously get us to that future, any more than the invention of the automobile automatically increased the mobility of human beings. To provide its intended benefits, technology must first be accepted and used.

What is easy to miss is that DNotes is currently and quite publicly focused on the people side of the human-tech connection. That doesn't mean that the technology is irrelevant or even just an afterthought. It is merely a reflection of the founders' unrelenting focus on how this technology can benefit people, and the steps needed to bring those potential benefits to fruition. The technology is but part of the story - and where mass acceptance and adoption are concerned, probably the least important part of the tale. As impressive as the technology that powers the internet might be, I think our appreciation of its value would be more than a little diminished were just a small portion of the population using it.

None of that is to suggest, however, that your concerns about the technology are unimportant. Those are all legitimate questions for anyone who is focused entirely on the technical aspects of crypto - though they could probably have been framed in a somewhat less condescending manner. Still, it is important to remember that the conversation you see here tends to revolve around long-term goals and potential precisely because the people involved in the conversation are interested in DNOTES' long-term vision, and in the real benefits that such a vision can provide for the world once it is fully achieved.

Good questions, though.

Thank you KC. You made many excellent points. I hope we all learned a few things from this incident.

TeeGee, you are an amazing friend. Your deep understanding of DNotes and our industry is impressive.
