14741  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Don't Lose Hope Just Yet on: November 25, 2018, 07:35:53 PM
What about all the people in April 2013 who bought at the all time high of $260 and then lost 83% of their USD value in only 3 days when it crashed to $45? Or if you bought at the all time high of $1163 in November 2013 and then lost 87% of their USD value over the coming months as it fell to only $150 in 2015? Bet you wish you were one of those people that bought and held now.

Warren Buffet has said "The stock market is a device for transferring money from the impatient to the patient". Bitcoin is no different. If you bought at the all time high in April 2013, and were patient, you would still currently be up 1500%. If you were impatient and sold, then well, you would have nothing. This bear market is no different. If you can't handle the price fluctuations, then stop paying attention to them. Be patient and come back in 5 years.
14742  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: Gender identity, bigotry and being categorized. on: November 25, 2018, 12:17:36 PM
I largely agree with your points - I have no issues with anyone doing anything they like with their lives, provided you are not infringing on the rights of anybody else. As per Peterson's argument, legally mandating what people can and cannot say crosses that line, and it is where my support for these issues ends. If you want to spend your life believing that you are a cat, then go for it. If that's what makes you happy, then all the more power to you. You don't bother me and I won't bother you. But don't expect me to go out of my way to change my life for your benefit. That's not how it works.

On your point about categorizations not being important I have to disagree, though. I work in healthcare, and categories such as age, sex and race all change what diseases you are at risk of. Some diseases are X-linked recessive - if you don't tell me you were born as a gender different to the one you are now, your diagnosis is going to be near-impossible. Many diseases are more common or even exclusive to a certain race, ethnicity or group of people - Ashkenazi Jews are the most commonly used example here. There is evidence emerging that different antibiotics work better in some ethnicities more than others. Even something as common and widespread as high blood pressure has different treatment protocols depending on your age and race.
14743  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Selling 1.140.000 TRX on: November 25, 2018, 11:48:03 AM
This user has previously tried to scam people on this forum by lying about being part of Fidelity Investments and promising ROIs of 120% in 90 days. Since that scam failed, he is now trying to sell private keys to wallet containing locked coins, which I have no doubt he either does not actually posses, or if he does, will steal those coins back as soon as they become unlocked.

Avoid at all costs.
14744  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [PSA] - Ledger Black Friday sale... 50% off! on: November 25, 2018, 11:40:45 AM
That's clever idea, even though there's no info when will the discount ended and people who buy bitcoin might miss the discount as not all exchange have fast deposit/withdraw.

Don't want to be "that guy", but it says in pretty big letters on their main page (and on the picture HCP posted) that the discount lasts "until Nov. 26 only", which presumably means it ends at midnight tonight. The discount is also applied to some of their official Amazon Retailer pages, which you can access here: https://www.ledger.com/pages/retailers.
14745  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: November 25, 2018, 11:04:25 AM
Felt kind of bad for Watford actually, they played really well but Firmino, Salah and Mane all on the pitch is just unstoppable. Salah's goal (https://streamja.com/Ng3j) had a great ball from Firmino and a great first touch and pass from Mane. Robertson and VVD both played a blinder as well.

Also feel bad for Palace. The game was theirs. United were actually lucky to hold on to a point, at home, against Palace. How ridiculous does that sentence sound? United obviously had a bad start to the season, but we are now 13 games in and they have shown literally no signs of improvement at all. How many more chances does Mourinho need to actually do something?
14746  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cloudbet's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: November 25, 2018, 10:48:23 AM
An OK day for me as far as predictions are concerned. The Fulham - Southampton and United - Palace games screwed me over though - if I had swapped over my predictions for those two games I would have had a nice extra 6 points. I had predicted a close win for United, since they were starting to pick up a bit of form again although their defence is still poor, and a goalless draw for the two bottom of the table clubs. I thought Ranieri's first move would be to try to shore up Fulham's defence.

Oh well. Still, well done to Ranieri for securing a 100% record at Fulham (Grin). Will be interesting to see if he can get them out of the relegation zone.
14747  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin forks. Bitcoin family. on: November 24, 2018, 01:31:14 PM
i have personally never bothered thinking about the altcoins. but now i realise i have 60-667 multiples of my hoards. i might just have to pull out my private keys from 2012 from cold store. and start claiming and swapping some to btc(if any still are active)

I wouldn't waste your time. Have a look at the list of coins on the site BrewMaster linked to - they are almost all long dead, or never really existed in the first place. Some of them are forks of forks of forks of forks. BCH will currently net you around 0.063 BTC per BTC you had at the time of fork (0.048 for ABC and 0.015 for SV), Bitcoin Gold 0.005 per BTC and Bitcoin Diamond 0.0025 per BTC (this fork was 10-to-1). Any forks beyond that and you are looking at at a handful of satoshi per BTC that you had stored. Hardly seems worth it. Not to mention the shady exchanges you will have to sign up to if you want to continue to trade trash coins like "Bitcoin Incognito".
14748  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [PSA] - Ledger Black Friday sale... 50% off! on: November 24, 2018, 10:03:39 AM
The price they charge is based on Euros (since they are a French company), and they have cut the price from 99.99€ to 49.99€. It's a great deal for anyone without a hardware wallet or who may want additional wallets for travelling, extra security, etc. I mean yes, the price of BTC has fallen, so if you are paying with BTC you bought at a much higher price then your discount will be less or even non-existent, but that would be the case literally everywhere. If you want to pay in BTC and want the discount, then just buy 49.99€ worth of bitcoin at these new lower prices and then use that to pay.

I didn't know they had started making new colors though. Unfortunately they are all pretty ugly except the transparent one. I would definitely be grabbing one of those if it was on offer.

He is also still expected to play with OG in Melbourne next month at the AMD Pro Series. Notail's response to Ana's announcement says "Can’t wait to see you soon down under", and Ceb has apparently said on stream that Ana will be playing with them for these games, so it's likely Ana just wanted to skip tournaments abroad and stay in Australia for a few months, which is completely understandable.

The Facebook announcement does also say that "Ana will move on to be our official substitute for the upcoming season", not that he is leaving OG altogether.
14750  Economy / Reputation / Re: Dig Bicks, if you have a problem with me, let's discuss it. on: November 23, 2018, 07:16:47 PM
I find posts involving math and technical insights more interesting over the regular gossips on the forum.

Each to their own. There are posts which are both technical and interesting. There are posts which are non-technical and interesting. There are also users like this guy who makes technical/math based posts, but I find completely uninteresting because he is a self-righteous troll.

At least to a level where a person knows what a private key is and how wallets work.

I mean, I obviously agree with you there. There is a certain baseline level of knowledge that is required to be safe, but knowing what your private keys are and how to store them is sufficient. As I said, although it is good if you do, you certainly don't need to understand how private keys are generated to be able to use crypto safely.

I am aware I am going way off topic here. My point is that crypto, and by extension, this forum, should be open to all regardless of mathematical education (provided you are not scamming, spamming, trolling, etc).

Dilly ding dilly dong was his phrase. And yes, he used to buy Leicester players all pizza. It seemed to work, so who are we to judge? Grin He was quoted as saying pizza doesn't it cut it anymore, and so he was stepping his game up to burgers.

Maybe that's his plan - if he fills his defenders up with fast food and makes them all bloated and lazy, they'll stop moving around the pitch so much and being caught way out of position. Genius!
14752  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Am I pessimistic or is bitcoin still over hyped? on: November 23, 2018, 02:06:11 PM
I really don't understand why people are not buying cryptos actively now. The prices are unbeliavably good.

Maybe people think the price will go lower still. I've seen the number $3000 be used by quite a few people as where they think the support currently lies. I wouldn't put a number on it myself, but I don't think we've seen the bottom yet.

Many people are just fickle, however. During the bullrun the board was filled with topics of people lamenting they hadn't bought more when the price was cheap, or even hoping for another dip so they could load up. Now that dip is here, and instead we are flooded with topics about this being the end of bitcoin. These are the largely the same people we were just discussing who jump on any bandwagon they can find and shill their trash all over the place.
14753  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Am I pessimistic or is bitcoin still over hyped? on: November 23, 2018, 10:09:42 AM
-snip-

I share your sentiments regarding altcoins. EOS is a great example. It is centralized, it is corrupt, it exists entirely to make profit for the 21 Block Producers who have complete control over all EOS coins, including the ability to reverse transactions, freeze accounts, even confiscate your coins or transfer them to someone else, all without your consent or even knowledge. It prints new EOS out of thin air every day and uses it to reward the Block Producers for being corrupt. Most of the dev team took their profits from the frankly ridiculous ICO and left, having delivered nothing but promises and no actual product. The entire thing is a joke, and yet it has a "marketcap" of $3.2 billion and the altcoin sections are filled with people shilling this trash who have absolutely no understanding of any of the points I just made.

Blockchain technology in general suffers from the same blind shilling. Again, you can find people all over this forum and others saying how blockchain is going to revolutionize *insert industry here*, with no details whatsoever as to how exactly it is going to do so, as if it is some magic spell - simply invoke the "blockchain" and your company will be more successful! I've been called an idiot on these forums for suggesting that perhaps blockchain isn't required is literally every industry. It's this kind of blind faith and shilling that makes us look shady to the rest of the world.

I pay almost zero attention to the day-to-day price of bitcoin, and wouldn't have known about this recent dip were it not for the forum being flooded with newbies proclaiming that "bitcoin is dead!!!11". I think a bear market is a good thing right now - the entire market was overvalued and overhyped. Some time for many of these trash altcoins to die and to flush out the "get-rich-quick" type folk is badly needed.
14754  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: November 23, 2018, 09:26:15 AM
I believe Everton will be able to claim a victory against Cardiff City

With Sigurdsson back in training after picking up a small injury and therefore likely to start, and Richarlison being on good form and scoring for Brazil during the international break, Everton are looking like a strong side going in to this next run of matches. Everton are 4-1-1 in their last 6 Premier League games, including holding Chelsea to a draw, whereas Cardiff have only won 2 games all season - once against Bright as you say, and once against bottom place Fulham.

Should be an easy win for Everton.

And yes, I have walked out on a date where she refused to solve math problems.

You sure it wasn't her that was doing the "walking out"?

Algebra. The most potent of aphrodisiacs.
14756  Other / Meta / Re: Save Bitcoin Discussion subforum on: November 22, 2018, 09:15:47 PM
I think we need to get to a stage where inappropriate topics are either moved or trashed soon after posting, and threads are actively patrolled for signs they are turning in to spam mega threads and locked down way before they get to 20+ pages of trash. We need more reporting and more moderators to get there. We also need to lock all the old spam mega-threads that are available to be bumped. It's all well and good reporting threads to be locked, and the usually are promptly, but I regularly see threads that have been dead for several months being bumped back to the front page with the usual meaningless drivel.

Paxmao. Please demonstrate that you have intelligence by multiplying the ordinals (w+1)*(w*2+3)*(w*7+16). I usually do not communicate with people who cannot demonstrate their intelligence. Your hatred of mathematics is a sign of your mental deficiency. I am still better than you. You are a troll.

I bet you are fun at parties.
14758  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Dota 2 Kuala Lumpur Major 2018 on: November 22, 2018, 08:43:02 PM
Already it's time to look forward to the Chongqing major - the invited teams have just been seeded for the qualifiers. VP have a very easy looking group with 3 lower tier teams. The qualifiers will also see the return of OG, who have been on an extended break since winning TI8. They have a much more difficult looking group, which includes Team Secret.

Also, after Ana's announcement a few days ago that he will not yet be returning to Dota, we do not know who will be playing position 1 for OG. Given how instrumental Ana was to OG's success in TI, their stand-in could completely make-or-break them for this major. I'm not even sure who they could get to stand-in for them? There's no one available at that level that I can think of. OG did play some pub games with Matumbaman last weekend, but that might be an issue when OG and Liquid meet in the qualifiers. Grin

I'm still holding out for a Dendi return to the pro scene.
14759  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Next time people tell you bitcoin is banned in China, show him this pic. on: November 22, 2018, 03:40:56 PM
BCC and BCH are not same.

When Bitcoin Cash was first forked last year, some exchanges (including Binance) initially referred to Bitcoin Cash as BCC and used the ticker BCC. It took several months before consensus was reached and Bitcoin Cash became BCH. Probably because they didn't want to be associated with a scam like Bitconnect. How ironic. Similarly, the ABC fork of BCH is currently referred to as BCH, BCHABC or BAB, depending on which exchange you are using. It will take time for consensus to be reached there as well (if the coin survives that long).

These photos were initially posted on Weibo in February, so they are at least 10 months old: https://m.weibo.cn/status/4204847186621003

Well, with the news that Ranieri has promised to buy every player in his new team a McDonald's for every clean sheet they maintain, I fully expect Fulham to have 28 clean sheets for the rest of the season. I would make sure to adjust your predictions accordingly. Grin

Also talking of injuries, good news for Arsenal after both Aubameyang and Lacazette both dropped out of international games with injuries, but were both back in training this week ahead of the games at the weekend. Less good news for United with Lukaku, Pogba and Rashford all missing training and all potentially being out this week with minor injuries. Martial and Fellaini were back in training after also picking up minor injuries during the international break.
