I have a feeling the bears are going to try something this weekend... time is running out for them, if they don't make their move soon they never will.

place bids Wink

I'm concerned about some selling this weekend too. Bids are placed.  Wink

Bids implies something was likely sold

I am just too afraid of missing out on a huge upswing (that we may not go back down from) vs a minor correction (that might or might not happen)

Whats really interesting is that the sale took place almost exactly when the days change on the bitcoin charts website (some euro time i think).

Im wondering if this is another attempt to manipulate (like that annoying .1 sell bot) charts

I think this is WordPress effect and + this AntiWar.com is now accepting Bitcoin

antiwar.com? never heard. intersting. I guess bitcoin-donation-acceptance-marketing really works.

Amending Ghandi:

First they ignore you,
then they accept you for donations,
then they use you,
then you win.

haha exactly

the 2K ask wall at 13 USD converted into a 2k bid wall at 13 USD.

1487  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: December 04, 2012, 07:21:27 PM
I know this is OT, but has anyone else noticed that like 10Thashes has gone missing?

miners have been unprofitable ever since the reward halving. I guess some are dropping out now.

i hadn't noticed, thanks for pointing it out.

I guess so.  Just seems a bit odd that so many would stop and basically the same time.

I dont see the graph, but somehow im guessing that it corresponds quite nicely with the reward halving

somewhere along the line this thread just turned into a trollfest

I learned about sex by just watching porn, my teachers and my parents were utterly useless in that area.

This is exactly why education should be earlier and much more in depth. I know that I learned the same way and have spent a ridiculous amount of time de - conditioning myself from this shit.

I short at all the wrong times.

shorting shortly after wordpress = no bueno.

The State of the union is strong and will continue to strengthen.

That's why there are petitions to secede circulating in most if not all states with some garnering significant support and 50 million people aren't rioting and looting because they get free cell phones and food with the swipe of an EBT card right?

Thanks firefop, I realize half the energy supplied domestically is from coal-fired generation.  I was trying to make a point with my question that clean, green, renewable energy and roads filled with over-priced electric and fuel cell vehicles is absolutely not in the cards from what I can gather.

Here's a list of examples why the utopian green clean-energy future for the U.S. is a propagandized pipe dream after throwing tens of billions in stimulus and tax credits at now struggling or bankrupt energy companies, some due in whole or in part to domestic regulation and trade tariffs imposed by their own government themselves.  Ridiculous really.

What is that link supposed to prove exactly? That they received tax money? Yep, they did. Do many of them fail? Yep, most start ups fail, especially those that are technology oriented and that are heavily vulnerable to political dynamics. The problem isn't the technology, nor funding, its the completely fucked corporatocracy we have which determines policy in this country.

"from 80 percent to 100 percent of Germany’s electricity will come from renewable sources by 2050... Germans are baffled that the United States has not taken the same path. Not only is the U.S. the wealthiest nation in the world, but it’s also credited with jump-starting Germany’s green movement 40 years ago."http://www.livetradingnews.com/100-renewable-energy-in-germany-93980.htm#.UKnL-OOe9gx

This is a special case because he was traveling and he was unaware (or did not plan effectively enough to be aware) of the infrastructure requirements. It requires much less planning/ forethought when this happens among locals in their local area.

So ignore this case? Regardless, there are still too many potential hiccups and hurdles for most people - interface simplicity and reliability is approaching universal appeal, but hasn't arrived yet. Conceptual dissonance doesn't help, either.

Don't ignore the case, no. But don't use it to make a point either.

There are definitely too many hurdles for most people, I just think this case is a shitty example.

From the Bitcoin subreddit:

Quote
So, I'm back from Iceland, where I had hoped to sell about 50BTC for local currency to help bring Bitcoin to the country. I had two people I was in touch with there who were willing to trade. End result? Nothing happened. Although the hotel I stayed at was supposedly going to have free WiFi, when I got there, it turned out that their wifi costs $10 a day. A bit more than I was willing to spend. I was only able to get in touch with those people sporadically throughout the day whenever I found open WiFi hotspots while walking around the city, and due to the difficult communication, and the android wallet on my phone not able to sign and broadcast Bitcoin transactions at the hotel, the deal fell through. We basically just all apologized to each other for the difficulties and annoyances over e-mail, and went our separate ways. Bitcoin needs internet to work, and everyone has internet everywhere, but it's still a pain for travelers who may have internet at home, but not while traveling. Bitcoincard.org can't arrive soon enough!

Granted, there were some technical issues that could be resolved, but for someone familiar with Bitcoin to have these problems means there is still too much required of people whom are not tech-savvy. If every pawn shop and jeweler exchanged bitcoins, this probably wouldn't be an issue. It just isn't there yet. Gold still has its place for a while to come.

This is a special case because he was traveling and he was unaware (or did not plan effectively enough to be aware) of the infrastructure requirements. It requires much less planning/ forethought when this happens among locals in their local area.

Roll Eyes

its not as big as word press, but we'll take it.

People need to stop acting like they are Bitinstant.
You won't really profit from it except for the few cases of luck or insider trading. The rest pretty much is a zero sum game.

huh?

i will defiantly profit from more adoption...

financially and emotionally  Cheesy

Ahh, adoption the magic word... think about what it means for the case of Wordpress for a minute. Anybody who uses bitcoin to buy stuff there will either a) have them after which they are sold which drives prices down or b) bought them after they are sold which has no effect on the price. The potential effect of increased usage was priced in yesterday.
There will be some latecomers buying it up to 12-13 during this week but after that it's done. If you are saying that now is the single thing that will drive Bitcoin into mainstream you are either deluding yourself or are trying to manipulate us to buy so that you can sell higher. (I suspect the latter)

I'm not so sure. The price going up to 12-13 next week is all speculation. But it's not speculation without merit. Every time someone goes to pay in wordpress they will see the option to pay with Bitcoin. That alone is a huge branding opportunity and will have a compounding effect upon subsequent interactions with bitcoin. For some the curiosity bit early (like us), for others it takes much longer. This is a deep curve and we won't see the entirety of the effects of this for years to come.
