Hard to make a compelling case on just one instance. This is the 4th conference so if it also went up after the conference in 2015 and 2016 you might be able to make some sort of argument that it has an effect on the market. But this market still reacts heavily to any bad news like it did this week to Korean authorities investigating one of the Korean exchanges, so I would not take out a second mortgage and put it in Bitcoin just to try and play the effect of the Consensus Conference on coin prices.

A skilled trader can outperform a buy and hold strategy but the operative word is skilled. Almost everyone trading would probably do better if they simply hodled. There is a lot of existing research on this from the performance of traders trading traditional investment markets. Blackbox programs come first, professional traders come second, buy and hold comes third and amatuers trading their own account come last.

I am using Blockfolio and Delta. Both are really good apps that I would recommend to anyone looking for a convenient way to track your portfolio. Both are free to use but Delta also offers a desktop version and a paid version that has some additional features like adding multiple portfolios.

A million Bitcoins change hands on any given day, 8,000 are not going to move the market that much. They require completely different skill sets to be successful at each one. If you are day trading you need to be proficient in technical analyis and reading charts. If you are investing long term you need to be proficient at fundemental analysis. My advice would be to do an assessment of your skills and decide which one you have the most skills in or would be most interested in learning. They also have very different lifestyles attached to them. Day Trading involves large blocks of time when you do nothing else where as investing long term will require that you spend small amounts of time at regular intervals to check on your portfolio.

The key to being successful at investing in ICO's is careful selection and diversification. You must carefully select the ICO's you wish to invest in by doing highly detailed research on the project which should include checking the backgrounds of the principles involved to make sure they are who they say they are and have the right set of skills to advance the project. Then you should also do an evaluation of the project itself using all the parameters you would apply to investing in any start up. Some people have told you to follow the ICO rating services. This would be a mistake. They just read the white paper like any investor does and then write an opinion. They do not do any checking of the claims made in the whitepaper. I have seen them give high ratings on numerous occasions to projects that were obvious frauds. If you want to invest in ICO's you really need to do the work and check things yourself.

The other thing you need to do is diversify your picks. If you have 5 ETH I would allocate 0.5 ETH to each ICO you invest in. Even if you are carefully selecting ICO's you will have a number that fail so it pays not to put all your eggs in one basket. I do due dilligence on all the ICO's I promote so you can at least protect yourself from the ones that are obvious frauds.

The current plunge can be traced to a raid on the offices of the Korean Exchange UPbit by Korean Prosecuters. Since Korean Exchanges are forbidden from having foreigners as clients whatever the outcome will be highly localized and presents an enourmous gift to those looking to buy prior to the Consensus 2018 conference in New York.

You can avoid most scams by practicing a little due dilligence before you join the Bounty Campaign and making sure the people behind the project are real.
