Hey shorena, can u tell me how much it would cost me for getting an bitcoin address like: 1FruitsBasket as a prefix? I couldn't find your price list in the original post, or mayby I am just turning blind :p

Thanks in advance!

Because its too long. Even without exact case the estimate is ~450 years for a 50% chance.
Holy shit, didn't see that coming. So I assume I need to lower the amount of charachters, right?
If that is the case I am also fine with the prefix: 1Fruits I hope that will not take such a long time.

Yes, when the prefix is that long its the main reason for a long time / high price. There are some other factors that are a little more complex, e.g.

111111 has a 50% chance after 7.4 hours
1abcde has a 50% chance after 10 minutes

and 1Tdefghij is 23 times more difficult than 1Qdefghij (also see #2)

1Fruits (exact case) would be 0.0002 btc.
I wanted to do step 1/1.5 but I am now on my Ipad, and I don't have access to my computer. So I will do all the steps tonight and let you know the neccesary things and pay you upfront, is that okay?

Sure, send me a PM with the public key when you are ready.

Hi there,

want to check how much will it cost if I want a address start with

'1PkdLLm...'

With exact case 0.0002 btc.

ok...interested, but got some question...
as normally I used blockchain.info,
how do I import the address to there after you done?

There was an import function on the old blockchain.info, I dont know if its still possible with the new version. From what I read people mostly have problems exporting private keys. I dont have access to one of the new wallet version though.
1525  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: DoS Attack on the Network in Progress on: July 26, 2016, 07:52:06 AM
I used to host a node, but this is the problem that caused me to stop. To many freaking DoSers. I can't play CSGO with ping skyrocketing! Grin I could host it on a seperate network, but that's way too costly.

Anyone have any ideas? Im interested in hosting my node again. Should I blacklist IPs (Hackers can get new ones easily), or something?

Is it possible to hide my node, my PC, or even my network behind CloudFlare?

AFAIK ping spikes are rarely DoS attacks, but more likely bitcoin itself. When a new block is found and send to 30+ other nodes you quickly saturate a typical home connections bandwidth. Local QoS might help you lessen the impact. You may also want to check whether you are connected to a payment providers or large online wallets node. I had one of them blast me with 3000+ TX every 30 minutes for a while. Though it was a DoS at first as well. Id just turn the node off(line) for gaming. You wouldnt keep a torrent client running either.

IIRC one of the devs said that core tends to interfere with streams as well and that they are looking into possible solutions so spread out the bandwidth usage over time. I think its called thin blocks as a concept and is based on an older O(1) block propagation proposal.

@lassdas

1527  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Newest Pywallet? on: July 26, 2016, 07:40:37 AM
Is pywallet still useful? I need to manually add a passphrase to a .dat wallet but can't do it from bitcoin-qt or any program like that. I also need to extract priv keys from it as well.

You can add a password with bitcoin core, same for extracting private keys. IMHO pywallet still has its uses, but only in a few corner cases as most of the functions it used to provide are no build into bitcoin core.

1529  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is not Money - Florida judge on: July 26, 2016, 07:25:52 AM

I don't feel inclined to follow the link for no other reason than it's a blogspot journal entry.  If there were a quote posted here, or even a link to a more reliable site such as Fox or CNN then I might be interested, but as the second poster has already alluded to, the site is no doubt full of banner adds, so it's probably just click bait.

There are different sources for this:

Quote
“The court is not an expert in economics; however, it is very clear, even to someone with limited knowledge in the area, the Bitcoin has a long way to go before it the equivalent of money,” Pooler wrote in an eight-page order.

A judge dismissed a widely watched money laundering case in Florida on Monday by ruling that Bitcoin, the cryptocurrency, is not money.

Judge Teresa Mary Pooler sided with the defense's argument that bitcoin doesn't constitute a form of money within the confines of Florida’s legal system, stating in a ruling issued today that Michell Espinoza doesn't qualify as a money transmitter as argued by the prosecution.

Quote
"Bitcoin may have some attributes in common with what we commonly refer to as money, but differ in many important aspects," Pooler said in a ruling made public Monday. "They are certainly not tangible wealth and cannot be hidden under a mattress like cash and gold bars."

Which of those are filled with ads I cant tell, my adblocker/no java script combo works pretty well most of the time.
1530  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Need help with Electrum! Problem sending bitcoin to address from electric wallet on: July 26, 2016, 05:52:32 AM
No..I have funds in my Electrum wallet. I sent some of them to an address (not local bitcoins) and it has not yet shown up on the site. I have transferred funds to this address before no problem in under 30 minutes so I'm not sure what's taking so long. That'd what I need help with

If the TX is confirmed its not a problem with your wallet, but with the "site". Where did you send the coins to?
1531  Economy / Services / Re: Bitcoin Vanity Addresses! on: July 26, 2016, 05:39:23 AM
i sent a PM to you OP about my request. i dont want to share my prefix in public. reply as soon as possible for payment. thanks

You have a PM, will not list you in the 2nd post.
1532  Other / Meta / Re: What's your "Report to Moderator" % rate at? on: July 25, 2016, 06:25:56 PM
Thanks for the update, mexxer-2 and me wondered a while back whether Cyrus was still number one. I guess lutpin will be the one to overtake me then.
Looks like my reporting days are behind me and I didn't get to 5k. Congrats shorena!

Thank you to everyone on the list, you make this forum a better place!
Also, thanks theymos for updating this list.

To be very true . the forum is far far away to become/be a better place. but yeah. over all these all/include you of course did superb work so far. if you guys continue your contribution to the forum one day the forum surely become a better or even a perfect place.

Sadly I have no such status. Only reported one posts which was declared un-accurated. so my % is Zero(0)
-snip-

Keep reporting, you will get the hang of it. I think the forum is in a better state than it appears to be. Often (I assume this hasnt changed recently) spammers are just banned, but their posts not removed. Thus the spam stays and makes it look like it wasnt handled, but it was. Just not removed.

Hi All!
When I try broadcast I have error:

I have 1000+ btc address in wallet
balance: 323mBTC
try to send 318mBTC
fee: 2mBTC
I try to send from many to one wallet.

Please help!

Inline picture for simplicity:

How many inputs do you use? Its hidden in the picture, but from the message I assume its too many. You might have to limit yourself to ~2000 inputs at a time.
1534  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Wallet suddenly empty on: July 25, 2016, 06:03:02 PM
It is important to verify the integrity of Bitcoin Core. Even if you download it from bitcoin.org, it may have been modified in transit or even on your local network by malicious attacks and malware.

You should ensure that the release that you are about to install is signed by the Bitcoin Foundation.

Thats a very borderline scenario. Its good practise to always check signatures and hashes, but doing so now is not helping the cause. If you asssume a system is compromised you shouldnt trust it anyway.

Now that you have proceeded from this step, I suggest you enlist the help of senior members of this forum and let them have a look at the log files or access your program.

You would be suprised how many high ranked members have no idea what they are talking about. If knightdk is at it OP is in good hands though. Same goes for advice from cr1776.
1535  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Multiple Signature Campaigns At The Same Time... on: July 25, 2016, 05:59:50 PM
As always the question can be answered straight forward and you would get "NO" from most people.
If you asked could a person open multiple accounts and use them in different signature campaigns the answer would be "Yes"! Wink
Think this is more in line with what you are scratching at.

Many campaigns have a rule against that as well. Its not easy for them to spot, but you might get denied payment over all accounts if they catch you. IIRC it also happened that users on default trust left a negative rating for this as its deceiving and untrustworthy.
1536  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to send BTC to 10 people and only pay transaction fee once on: July 25, 2016, 05:57:26 PM
i think if you are sending paymnet to different people in one transaction it is also too costly. because  your kb is increasing and so you have  to pay more for that. so it is better to send to every one using single address.

No, its actually better (for a smaller size in byte) to combine payments. Outputs (the coins you send) are smaller than inputs (they coins you use), because of the signture(s) you have to provide for the inputs
1537  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: DoS Attack on the Network in Progress on: July 25, 2016, 05:13:10 PM
I have just checked my node and it seems like they are indeed back. Now I'm seeing connections spike up to 100. Unfortunately, I can't block them right now as I can't connect to my node.
@Shorena is it me or have the intervals changed a bit? It seems like 1 disconnect (all IPs) per hour now, but I need more data to make a conclusion.

Wasnt it once per hour anyway? Didnt store a picture of my 24 hour graph and its hard to say on the 30day one.

This is amusing. How many BitcoinJ clients do you legitimately need to run in a single AWS instance?

Banning these IPs at the edge firewall.

Id say roughly none.

Guess whos back?

It seems like their budget already ran out and they are gone now. Weird.
Just accessed my machine finally, and that is indeed correct. This is what I see now:

Unusual behavior at best.

Odd indeed. Unless you have a new IP and they used to target you.
1538  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Vanitygen on: July 25, 2016, 04:59:08 PM
Is there an option to generate a custom Bitcoin address on Android. Is there a vanitygen app or can it only be used on a vps or pc. If there is not an app is there an inbrowser vanitygen alternative?

If you look in the OP of samr7's thread (Near the bottom) you'll see that someone had made an android version. I think I tried it a long time ago and it wasn't working. It was developed in 2012 and no one seemed to keep up with it. You can try it out though and see if it'll work now!

Vanitygen: Vanity bitcoin address generator/miner [v0.22]

aVanityGen Alpha v0.2: Vanity address generator for Android. [UPDATED 1/11/12]

i think generating an address with speficic name until 5 sensitive letters on android would take an age,and so far no app for android to generate an address and generating using browser really not encouraged, but hey you can just hire someone to generate an address for you,and the one who's already trusted on this forum is shorena if i'm not mistaken

Use split key vanity gen and it doesn't matter if they're 'trusted' or not. Shorena uses this method and you never have to trust him because he never has your private key. Essentially what you're doing is taking a part private key and 'adding' your other part private key to make a new private key for your very own secure vanity address.

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Split-key_vanity_address

The file is not available as it has expire, probably because of how old it is. I will look into using a split key vanity method but I will probably end up purchasing a vps for a month to generate the addresses I need. Thanks for suggesting the app.

A VPS will not help you unless you can get one with a meaty GPU. A CPU will take ages to find a decent address, while it will only take hours on a GPU. E.g. 1test23 would take my GPU (GTX 970) ~5 hours for a 50% chance, while my CPU (4 core i5) would take over 10 days for the same chance to find a fitting private key. Split vanity does not make this slower. I have a step by step for it in my sales thread here[1]. Let me know if I can help you with it. This can also mean help you set something up so you can search yourself, just not on android.

I actually use this site https://bitcoinvanitygen.com/ and import it in my blockchain.info wallet
This is the custom address I made
.
1bL4nku3R22RgYzMLu8zssKqHwFiohXik

I don't think if this is right decision I made to make my coins secured just after I received from my imported address I eventually transfer the coins to my primary wallet. And I guess this site and there service is not recommended but its up to you to take the risks I just answered what I have experienced and what I have done.

Its not safe to do that as someone else knows your private key. They also ask a very high price for what they offer, well unless you take a free address.

I have just checked their site and it seems ok however 0.1btc seems like alot for 6 letters case sensitive. Im not sure how hard it is to generate it just seemed quite expensive especially if I need to trust that my private key is kept safe. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

You might use Vanity Pool, you dont need to trust them as it uses split key method. The pricing might be lower (starting at about 0.01 BTC), but the more you pay, the more people have incentive to find your vanity key. Also you should outbid other vanity keys so your work get highest priority (there are not many miners, so being at top is important if you dont want to wait very long). Check ThePiachu tread for more info:

Vanity Pool - vanity address generator pool
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=84569.0

I might check that out. I will see how my vps goes for the next few weeks and if I have no luck I don't mind paying.

I used to mine for them, not sure if anyone is still active. Its worth a shot though as you dictate the price and its split key vanity as well, so there are no risks.

1539  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: Epay claims it is 100% free, so, how they earn profits??? on: July 25, 2016, 04:47:35 PM
Hello guys,

Anyone here heard Epay? I was earning on Bitcoin forums, and was attracted by its massive ads. ...It claims that it's always free to make internal transfer(including send & receive funds). For that I have some doubts, how they earn profits?  Hmm, It seems unbelievable. All the processors I know like pm, wm, payza are chargeable.

I tried to open an Epay account at epay.com specially to check if it is true or not,  the result is yes. So, how can this company survive? without fees??    I really think there must be something rather suspicious somewhere..... Huh Shocked

Internal transactions are very likely done "off-chain" thus its nothing more than changing two database entries and maybe add one for logging. These should cost as little as a post in this thread, probably even less. Many online wallets or services all internal transactions without fee (think tipping in casinos or wallets like xapo). It helps attract costumers and its not their main source of income (bets, ads, profiles, external fees).
1540  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: FAQ: All About Unconfirmed 0 Confirmation Transaction Fee (READ before posting!) on: July 25, 2016, 11:32:17 AM
My first transaction was unconfirmed for a week, then I had to stop Electrum and start it again. After that my transaction has 1151 confirmations! From nothing to a huge confirmation.

Is this expected behavior?
Best
Fran

Electrum sometimes does not update its data from the server, not sure why but restarting it usually fixes it. Its not that there were 1151 blocks found in quick succession, but that your wallet was out of sync for almost 8 days.
