1521  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2022/2023 on: June 14, 2023, 02:29:01 PM
Newcastle's performance in last season's English Premier League is undoubtedly their best in the league over the last decade thanks to the club new owner's wise decisions on bringing in the best needed set of players and also the tactical works that was put in place by the manager Eddie Howe who I think deserves some personal accolades for the feat he achieved with Newcastle.
Next season will be more demanding and challenging as well for Newcastle who would not just want to replicate finishing in the top four of the league position but also put out a great performance in the UEFA Champions League competition that they'll be playing in come next season. So I think it's required of the club new owner to sign more quality players so they can be formidable enough for the new season
The team has a rich ownership that can afford any player they want. The team needs some fresh legs because they will be competing in a different competition. To avoid the effect of injury and fatigue the team needs to have more players that will serve as a formidable substitute in cases of emergency. It will not be bad to see new teams making waves in the Uefa Champion League next season and Newcastle could be one of them. I also want to see Newcastle competing to win the premiership next season so that Manchester City will not have a free day in the league. Newcastle is fortunate to have achieved much with a relatively unknown coach Eddie Howe. Unlike Graham Potter that failed at Chelsea, Howe has been able to restructure and built a team that can compete favorably in all competitions.
1522  Economy / Economics / Re: Is poverty a lack of money? on: June 14, 2023, 12:43:16 PM
In summary when you have everything you need to survive and you don't need money, are you poor?

Do you know that life is beyond what we eat, where we live, and how our family feeds? Those might be the essential reasons why we strive so hard to earn a living, and just because those things are available, that does not mean we are going to stop trying to make money because medical bills, children's school fees, transportation, clothing, upgrading to the modern generation, fitting in ecological changes—all those things require money, and if we just see poverty as not being able to feed the family, then we are wrong.

But if everything that one needs to survive is readily available for him and all expenses, both present and those to arise in the future, can be settled, then such a person is no longer poor but is living an average life.
Thank you for your response @Nwada001 but seems to misunderstand my question. We must strive to make money because money is important to provide for our needs as you mentioned. There are places where you don't need money for medical bills, school fees, and transportation. They rely on traditional medicine, education, and more of transportation. I know places that still use horses, donkeys, and camels for transportation. You may need money to take care of these needs but many people don't need money to satisfy these needs. There are also many modern societies where education, healthcare, and transportation are free, so you don't need money to satisfy them.

I see poverty as the inability to provide what you need. So when people assume that poverty is when you don't have money I don't agree.

Those are the attributes of poverty
Deep down, if you don't have money to provide for those basic needs then its assume you are poor, a poor man doesn't only ends of not being able to provide for his family, but seeing what to do with money and can't initiate the move to do it is also poverty. Let say for instance, you are passing by the road side along the line you are hungry whereby a restaurants is close by but since you aren't able to afford what it takes to go their and have some plate of food are also considered being poor.
@Nwada001 explained to you, money is most needed in all ways of life.

Basic needs are food, water, shelter, and clothing. Others will include healthcare, education, and others. My question was that if you need money to satisfy your needs and you have the money, you perceive not poor. And if you can satisfy these without money, you are also rich. So a man that earns money in New York to satisfy his needs and a man that owns a large farm in a rural area of South America to satisfy his needs are just the same. Money shouldn't be a determinant factor to classify people as poor or rich. I don't need to eat in restaurants to satisfy my hunger because there are none in some areas.
1523  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Africa needs peace in Ukraine and Russia. on: June 14, 2023, 09:24:39 AM
Most African nations depend on Ukraine and Russia for many things. Economically these two nations supply most of the raw materials and finished products that help the economies of the continent. Africa suffered at the beginning of the invasion because most raw materials like wheat led to the high cost of bread. Academically the continent relies so much on Russia and Ukraine. Before the Russian invasion of Ukraine about 26,500 Africans were studying in Ukraine and many of them became dropouts. Many students that would have studied in Russia are not going because of security and diplomatic concerns. This is denying Africans the opportunity to access quality education. Politically it is affecting the continent because it is dividing us among the Western and Eastern blocs. Some of them have criticized the war while others have been silent.

Recently six African countries have scheduled to visit Russia and Ukraine in an attempt to seek peace. They are aware that this war is affecting the continent negatively and that the war should end. We know many more powerful nations have tried to end this war but failed, I am just praying that South Africa, Zambia, Senegal, the Republic of Congo, Uganda, and Egypt might find a way to end this war.
1524  Economy / Economics / Is poverty a lack of money? on: June 14, 2023, 08:14:10 AM
I see poverty as the inability to provide what you need. So when people assume that poverty is when you don't have money I don't agree. Now what if you have all you need and you don't require money to buy anything, are you poor? Some people live in communities where everyone lives agrarian life. They have all they need because everything they need to survive is available. Food is on the farm, water available and everybody is happy. Although it was hard during the Covid-19 lockdown many people lived without money. I have also seen many people leaving cities and moving to rural areas to live a natural life.

In summary when you have everything you need to survive and you don't need money, are you poor?
1525  Economy / Economics / Re: Landed properties is the best investment on: June 13, 2023, 04:10:21 PM
Half of the rich people keep continue to swim in fame and wealth because of their occupied landed properties. If you own a land, housing estate you can be sure living great but this wealth are mostly control by political leaders and BD individuals......if you're blessed enough begins to occupy property's that can sure your next generation... In my country Nigeria if you don't have any of this properties forget yourself, you will end up making life mortgage and tenancy. Land never depreciates it keeps buying higher that's why I considered it the best investment. What do you think?
One of the benefits of owning a landed property is that it could save you the cost of paying house rent. In some countries owning a house can be expensive because of the cost of maintenance and tax. But in my country houses and lands are very viable properties because the price of land keeps appreciating and property tax is low. Some people buy cheap land in undeveloped areas and keep them until the place develops and they will sell the land at a very high price. And because of the population increase in my country, lands keep appreciating. And landed properties are very good collateral if you want to access loans from banks.

But buying land or a house Is not a guarantee that you will make a profit because conflict, violence, or war in your location can lead to a drop in the price of landed properties. Also, a place can experience mass emigration or immigration which will lead to a drop in population leading to a drop in the price of properties. I have seen some properties in Europe sold for very low prices because most of them have been abandoned by the owners.

1527  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Easy or hard to quit? on: June 13, 2023, 03:15:35 PM
Can you quit gambling if you make a life changing money and never go back to gambling?

I asked this because those who made some money through gambling near me always go back to gamble and they end up losing everything they once made through gambling.
It depends on the amount of money that was won and the gambler. Although the majority of people that win always go back to gambling projecting to win more and in the process lose most of the money won. But I have also seen some gamblers that use their wins to invest in a business or landed properties. The gamers that go back to gambling wishing to win more are usually gambling addicts.
Quote
Is it fine to say that people should not go back into gambling once they made high amount of money? Because the chance of losing that money again is very high, even if they don't use all the money to gamble at once, gambling can take it all back in time.
Every gambler has his personal goal or reason for gambling. Some believe that gambling is for fun and entertainment while others might see it as a means of raising capital for a profitable venture. But I don't think it is ideal to stop gambling when you win big especially when you have total control over your gambling life. The best option will always be to have a gambling plan that serves as a roadmap for your gambling activities.
Quote
Have you ever won a high amount of money from gambling and managed to not lose them all back to gambling? And to date, you are still gambling?
I have always used my wins to solve my financial problems. I see my big wins as an opportunity to invest in some viable businesses or investments. This is because gambling wins are not predictable.
1528  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Kids and Bitcoin on: June 13, 2023, 02:36:23 PM
Not the answer you're looking for, but let them enjoy the superhero stuff for now. You don't necessarily need to shove Bitcoin down their throats this early, as they're unlikely to grasp Bitcoin anyway because in the first place they probably barely grasp the concept of money.
Children should be allowed to enjoy thier childhood. At this age, they like playing with toys, friends, and families. This level is also the foundation stage for their educational affairs, so they should not be overburdened with Bitcoin education. So I suggest that the comic book should just be an avenue to introduce the children to bitcoin and they should not be forced to embrace the coin. It should be simple and not bulky. Some of them might not be interested in the comic, while others might be, giving them the privilege to make their choices will be the best option. Some children are naturally attracted to finance and investment, and few of them might find the comic book interesting and embrace Bitcoin in the future.
1529  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Kids and Bitcoin on: June 13, 2023, 08:57:35 AM
My next Bitcoin awareness approach now are the children, there are many kids in my family and very soon our get-together tradition is approaching, I need your help in this forum if this is possible.

I remember when I was little, I love reading books that have good pictures on them, like comics and novels painted with amazing pictures, from Peter Pan to DareDevil and Supergirl, while growing up as an adult I ended giving out these comics to my cousins.

My question is where can I buy Bitcoin comic books that can catch the attention of children between the age of 7 to 11? I want something in comic or story book style and with full story about Bitcoin or related... I want to buy and wrap them up for the surprises.

Your intention is creative and I like it because it is cheap to implement. I also use to read cartoon books while growing up and I find them very entertaining and impactful. Some of our role models and superheroes were cartoon characters. I am sure you can get many of them if you do some research and fortunately you have started getting responses from forum members. I am hopeful that this your approach will teach them about bitcoin in a simple and entertaining manner. You should also go through the cartoon book before giving it out to the children to ensure that they are void of misinformation.
1530  Other / Meta / Re: [Bitcointalk Party - Discord sv] Bitcoin Pizza bake-off contest! Enter by June 1 on: June 12, 2023, 04:49:37 PM
A lot of controversies have surrounded this year's bake-off contest. Cyrus should now think of options to conduct the voting within the forum. If not then find a way to stop those fake IDs suddenly joining the discord server in the future. If possible do find those who suddenly joined the discord server after entries were closed as a lot of votes I think are manipulated. Please be fair and clear for this year's contest as a few names in the top 10 list are questioning.
This competition was not perfect but I believe next year's event will be better. There might be some flaws in the voting proceeds but without evidence, they remain mere speculation. Maybe the monetary benefit spurred some participants to go the extra mile of manipulating the votes. It could be that people also did some publicity and campaign encouraging people to vote for them. But one thing I am sure of is that we had a great time in this pizza competition. They might try to exploit the loopholes but they cannot stop me from having fun and smiling at some pizzas. I got 8 votes and didn't make it to the top 10 but I am proud of myself. See you guys at the 2024 Bitcoin Pizza bake-off contest.
1531  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How Confident Are You In The Reliability of the KYC system on: June 12, 2023, 04:31:03 PM
is part of what we agreed when we sign up to play in casinos but lately I've been reading a lot of complaints
about casinos on how they accept their players' KYC, is it possible that they can decline a person's credentials even though he swore that he submit all the right documents and even undergo a video call to establish his identity?

Take note, Casinos will ask or demand a KYC if there's a big winning involved, is this one of their ways to scam their players?
I have had some difficulties submitting my information to some platforms and it was not funny. I kept on submitting some documents and the organization failed to accept them. If a casino refuses to confirm or accept my registration I won't be troubled but if they start asking for additional documents if I get a big win, then they might be fraudulent. Reputable casinos will not ask for more KYC because they don't want to pay their customer. Any casino that asked for more KYC after a big win without genuine reason should be avoided.

Quote
Both parties the player and the casino can agree to do a mediation through third-party/parties. but do you think it has bad consequences if the third party proves the player is right in establishing his identity, then the casino's KYC is not reliable?
The reputation of the mediator is also very important. It might affect the reputation of the casino negatively if it is proven that their process is flawed because gamblers might avoid them. This mediation is time-consuming and nobody will be pleased to go through these processes.

Quote
If the third-party proved that the casino is right but the player swore that he submit all the documents and is willing to do the extra mile to establish his identity, can we conclude that Casino's KYC procedure is different and we have the right to know how and what system they are using to decline our submission because we can be the next to suffer from this Casinos' KYC system?
Since it is the casino that chooses the third party it might be difficult to get a fair judgment. Trying to establish that the documents are real could lead the gambler to seek the counsel or services of a legal practitioner. It will even be more difficult if the casino company is not registered or have a representative in one's country.
1532  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Kristi Noem excludes crypto currency from definition of money. on: June 12, 2023, 11:50:07 AM
You have it backwards. Kristi Noem, the governor of South Dadollar-backedked[/b] a law that would create a definition of money that excludes cryptocurrencies.
Thank you, boss. People and even me sometimes feel that vetoing and assenting mean the same thing. They think vetoing a bill means approving it but it really means disapproving it. The brave Governor actually refused to accept this bill programmed to frustrate decentralization and reduce privacy. The bill wants to make US CBDC the only crytocurrency in the state.

What is wrong with South Dakota House? They are playing the script of the federal government which contains a plot to force people to turn to the dollar-backed CBDC. Kristi Noem has joined some governors that have recently stood their ground to protect Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. I want to commend the efforts of Conservative advocates that supported the governor in the process of vetoing the legislation. This is good news for the crypto space because this policy would have affected the use of cryptocurrencies in the State of South Dakota.
1533  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why Bitcoin an exceptional figure among other coins on: June 12, 2023, 10:04:51 AM
Bitcoin and bitcointalk are different from others because Bitcoin as a cryptocurrency is the most decentralized cryptocurrency and also since 2009 till date Bitcoin has not been under any control be it by individuals or governments thereby making Bitcoin a free market for all.
Also, bitcointalk is the most resourceful forum among all the other cryptocurrency forums and this peculiarity and success is ascribed to the forum association with bitcoin which also is the most successful coin among other cryptocurrencies.

1534  Economy / Speculation / Re: Take advantage of the price fall. on: June 12, 2023, 09:47:25 AM
Is been a hard knocked to everyone trading bitcoin this seasons especially investment, my friend was sore disappointed for the recent falling of price because he bought $1000 bitcoin but the truth is that we cannot foresees the future in today, this is not the first time the price is Reding down, we should take advantage of this time at least you can use a small to purchase high value bitcoin. I wish we've profound bitcoin price analyst here, many people really wants to know the cause of continues price deflected, if you've ideas please your comments will be very important here. We newbies this days fall victims a lot because of ignorance of cryptosystem. Let's talk as a family.
I am solely committed to bitcoin and willing to go up or down with bitcoin. After a thorough evaluation of the investment platforms I can invest in, Bitcoin looks like the safest and most affordable investment. Keeping my funds in my local currency is more risky because of inflation. And I can start Bitcoin investment with a percentage of my earning based on my capacity.

Bitcoin gives me the access to invest in it with as little as $20 every week. Using dollar-cost averaging is the best option because the risk is low since you buy at different price levels. For me, the best time to buy bitcoin is when you can afford it since the price is unpredictable. I believe that the price might go down sometimes but it will always suppose its former price.
1535  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Saudi Professional League 2022/2023 on: June 11, 2023, 04:33:08 PM
Indeed, there was a lot of talk about Kante's arrival at Al-Ittihad and it seems that what Kante has experienced this season could become his stumbling block that made him fail to join Al-Ittihad. The injury problem experienced by Kante is very complex and learning from what Al-Ittihad has done can be an important reference for them because bringing in Kante must be proportional to the salary they will spend later. But I still hope that the injury problem will be resolved soon, however, for the SPL team to be able to get a football star like Kante and not too old is already very good for the development of football in the Middle East.
The deal will be a good and prosperous way to end a career filled with success and some challenges. The 32year N’Golo Kante has been nicknamed the player with two hearts because of his strength and consistency. But in recent times injuries have been his biggest enemy. He is humble and easy going and there has never been any record of him having problems with any player or coach. I wish he seals this contract because he will need the money to enjoy his retirement.

He might not have off-the-pitch economic value like his fellow French player Benzema but Al-Ittihad will benefit from the experience, strength, and prowess o,f the French world cup winner. Younger players will be able to benefit from his experience and good character. Al-Ittihad seems to be more proactive than Al-Nassr because they want to keep dominating the Saudi Arabia Professional League. After losing Messi, SPL will still get more attention next season with the signing of Benzema and maybe Kante.
1536  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is ahead is very dangerous on: June 11, 2023, 04:04:38 PM
If they want airdrop from Optimism, they must follow up Optimism's official website and channels.
The problem is, how can a beginner who is eager to get involved in the airdrop know the difference between the official website and the fake website?

I think the general advice should be that we should avoid airdrops because scammers are using the airdrop channel to scam beginners.

Most airdrops end up being scams, which is why some coins that advertise through airdrops are not getting the attention they need in the public market because most people cannot trust the project unless they follow various advertising systems that involve bounty and signature campaigns.
You asked a very good question because these scam websites have almost the same physical appearance as the original ones and can be hardly distinguished. But I have always known that the days of getting any coin for doing nothing have come and gone. So we need to be careful when these platforms come up with certain packages that are too lucrative. High profitability will always be the bait that will entice people to embrace these platforms. I have decided not to take part in most of these coins, tokens, and NFTs this is because I have not developed the needed skills to identify these fake coins. It will be better to only deal in coins that have shown to be reliable and genuine.
1537  Other / Meta / Re: Why is this system not set up for the Bitcointalk forum? on: June 11, 2023, 03:44:34 PM
I don't understand why this is not in this forum where everyone including the admin knows these things.  And since the forum was created almost 14 years ago, why has this not been done yet?  Is there any secret behind it?

First of all, you need to know that this is not a ordinary forum, this is a bitcoin forum. Remember that bitcoin is decentralized.

Although we do have a password to access the forum, but there are many other things which you setup, it will be impossible for anyone to hack the account. For example, if you sign your bitcoin address and later if somehow your account is hacked, you can claim it back.
Secondly a hacker simply can't hack your account and start using it, as you will always come up and proof that the account belongs to you.

Signing a bitcoin message to prove the ownership of your account is a much better way than to use the email OTP's and 2fa's that are being used all over the internet.
Some newbies might not be familiar with this simple but helpful security process. That is why I commend op for this thread. I also think that it will be difficult for hackers to successfully take full control of a hacked account if members are security conscience. If an account has been hacked the owners can immediately inform the forum, I have even seen threads of members informing the community that their accounts have been hacked. And they will be asked to sign a signature from an address. That's why it is important to attach an address to your account.

But sometimes hackers have access to inactive accounts and the users do not know about the hack. This will make these hackers successfully own the account because the owner might not complain about the hack until it is discovered after some time. So logging into an account periodically even when not in use could be helpful.
1538  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Lost 2.03 BTC via bitcoinpaperwallet.com Am I wasting my time trying to recover? on: June 11, 2023, 02:53:19 PM
Three years ago I made a paper wallet using an online generator and my public key is 1MXb3vY5sCC2rB2bD2rusQjxEyYUDEKcHT. I stored my private keys locked in a Keepass password manager (with a very long and strong password) and made sure it's different than my primary general Bitwarden password generator. I just checked my balance 2 days ago and realized it's all missing since 11/25/2022. Any advice how to get my money back?  I feel like reporting or even trying to sue Sarkis Sarkissian (new owner of the bitcoinpaperwallet) would cost me even more headaches and waste of time since not guaranteed that I will get my money back. Do you happen to know any success stories or any recommendations on what I should do?

Thanks in advance.
I went through the thread created by a member and posted by Charles-Tim and it became clear that you are a victim of a scam site. I have never come across the website but it is clear that the owner of the site is scamming people. And the site is still operational and more people will still be scammed. Sorry for your loss but it has become a lesson for others to avoid generating keys from online platforms. There are claims that the former owner of the website Canton Becker is still behind the name Sarkis Sarkissian. So it is an intentional move to defraud people of their money. Reporting this scam to the police will be a good move because it will be on record that you lost money using their services. Maybe in the future, the scammers behind this website might be unraveled and arrested.
1539  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bhutan's Secret Crypto Investments: A Game-Changing Strategy for Small Nations? on: June 11, 2023, 02:29:50 PM
TL;DR:

Bhutan has been secretly investing millions of dollars in cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum, revealed through the bankruptcy filings of BlockFi and Celsius.

I don't know where the Kingdom of Bhutan gets financial advice on cryptocurrency investment but I think they are not getting the complete information or are motivated by greed. Do they really need to use exchanges or crypto firms like BlockFii and Celsius to invest in or buy Bitcoin? All they would have done was to set up a governmental agency that will handle the mining, buying, storing, and selling of any cryptocurrency. Investing through these centralized exchanges or platforms is very risky.

Quote
These investments could indicate a game-changing strategy for small nations, following a game theoretical point where smaller nations and companies adopt cryptocurrencies before larger ones.
The investment of Bhutam and other small nations might look insignificant based on the amount they can afford to invest. But this is a plus to the Bitcoin space because it will lead to an increase in awareness and adoption. These developing nations are seeking diverse means to diversify their economy and attract investors and capital.

Bhutan plans to further develop the mining industry of its economy. In cooperation with Singapore's Bitdeer Technologies Group, Bhutan plans to build a 600 megawatt farm. For these purposes, they hope to attract $500 million from investors.

With such ambitious plans and opportunities to organize hydropower in the country, Bhutan can become one of the major players in the mining market in the world.
Bhutan is indeed setting the pace for other nations to follow. Hydropower electricity is not a totally clean and green energy but it is far better than using oil and gas powered electricity generators. I am surprised that is a relatively unknown country that is tapping into the benefits of bitcoin.
1540  Economy / Economics / Re: Money is never enough! on: June 10, 2023, 05:04:12 PM
Most people nowadays measure everything with money, and it can be said that money is the biggest goal or motivation for anyone, unfortunately many people are carried away with money so they do everything for money. they even want to commit crimes to get money.
They fail to understand that money is important but it is not the most important thing in life. Good health, a compatible marriage partner, and children that are outstanding in character and learning is much more important than riches. If I can have money that would be enough to take care of my family and help some poor people in my community, I think I am okay. The uncontrollable quest for wealth is the reason why there are high rates of criminal activities. People are not satisfied with what they have because they want to look like thier role models who are always celebrities. And these celebrities live fake by deceiving their followers that they have much money, while they are living on debt or credit. They best thing to do in life is to focus on yourself and don't wish to be like another person.
