Memory bound hashing is very good suggestion: https://github.com/tromp/cuckoo

Does this mean that satoshi has been exploring cuckoo hashing?
15285  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why do we not already have a multi-sig escrow service? on: January 30, 2016, 06:18:32 PM
Seeing as there was a recent scandal with an Escrow I wonder why the existing trusted escrows don't just work together with P2SH N of M addresses for people to use with much greater confidence that they won't be scammed?

I personally believe it would introduce more problems than it would solve.  There are a number of ways a malicious escrow agent could still cause issues and any attempt at software and hot wallets would be an invite to hackers.  A more "trusted" escrow system involving developers and more escrow agents seems to me like a bigger opening for a confidence scam.

Is confidence currently an issue?  I've handled single trades as large as 130 BTC within the last 60 days and was holding more than 650 BTC in escrow at that time...
15286  Economy / Services / Re: LEGENDARY MEMBER Offering TRUSTED ESCROW services on: January 30, 2016, 04:32:28 PM
Over the last few weeks, scammers have tried every annoying trick in the book.  One of the annoyances has been sending me PMs in order to get a quote from me that they are using to send other members to try and scam.  This has been a waste of my time and is happening so frequently that I am to the point where I am no longer responding to stupid questions or users with negative feedback.

If you want to use my escrow service, read the OP and do it correctly.  I will no longer be responding to newbies with dumb questions or anyone with negative feedback unless I am bored and simply want to waste their time.  Also, I don't care what you're selling, but if you tell me it's gift cards, paypal, forum accounts, or altcoins, I will most likely tell you no.

I have plenty of longtime users I don't mind messaging back and forth with.  If you are one of those users, do not worry about this.  If you are a new user, read the OP.

There is also a good chance I will be raising my minimum fee soon to try and combat scammers annoying me for small non-existent escrows.

They really need to extend the time from 15 minutes to 10 hour because not everyone knows how to rebroadcast it with Raw Tx.

It isn't their fault you didn't broadcast your tx.  Are you running a full core node?  Did you leave it running or just send your tx and close the app?
15288  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Transaction stuck is becoming a FUCKING PROBLEM! on: January 28, 2016, 08:49:47 PM
Gotta get raw format and rebroadcast.

15289  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is EXACTLY where it needs to be right now, what the hell! on: January 27, 2016, 02:18:43 PM
My fee is at 200% ($0.08) because it's just to slow lately.

You should learn to set tx fees based on the size of the tx instead of a flat fee and select inputs that reduce the tx size.  I always spend less than a penny and have never had an issue.

Dang I hope they get it fixed up this time, that does sound like a pain.  Out of curosity when you say using EVGA PSU's are you using EVGA 1600's?

Just was curious on which EVGA PSU it was.

I use 2 EVGA 1300s for each S7.  I've got a bunch laying around.
15291  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: very sad day...blockchain.info wallet hacked. on: January 27, 2016, 02:47:39 AM
years ago i tried to store a bitcoin wallet on a flash drive and ended up losing some coins when i couldn't access it.  after that i figured the online wallet was a better choice.  im not an IT person.  blockchain.info seemed like the biggest and most reliable service.

If you want my opinion. I suggest you now use Coinbase as a wallet.

You can force it to use 2 factor autenticatoin and can use a Vault wallet (funds are sent only after 48 hours, meaning you can easily stop the transaction in this time).

My sympathies for your lost funds.

Necro bump just to give awful advice?

Moral of this story is DO NOT USE AN ONLINE WALLET TO STORE YOUR COINS.

I received 2 replacements for dead boards that I sent to Bitmain.  Within a couple hours one of the boards is dead again...  What a waste of $ and time.  I know their response is going to be for me to ship it to them again for repair, because they did so well at gaining my confidence the first time...

Oh man, that sucks Sad
Are you using their power supply?

No.  I use EVGA PSUs.  I've got several S7s running and the others have had no issues over a several month period.
Man that sucks, they should have someone fixing these things stateside.

What seems to be wrong with it?

15295  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How to begin with becoming an escrow agent? on: January 26, 2016, 06:04:34 AM
You can do what I did.  Participate in >17,000 BTC in trades over a span of 4+ years without anyone having a complaint.

That's >18,000 BTC now.  Cool
15296  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitcointalk Escrows - Trade Safely! on: January 26, 2016, 05:58:56 AM
I turn down probably 4 times as many escrow requests as I accept.  Most of the denied requests are for paypal transfers, gift cards, altcoin IPOs, signature campaigns, and account sales.  There is definitely a slowdown in legitimate trading, but I think it is because most people have been purchasing new S7s and the resale market is exhausted of supply.  I suspect once BitFury chips start finding their way into miners on the market, there will be a pickup in activity.  As for the Casascius re-seller market...  There are so many copycats like myself releasing our own versions of physical coins that we pretty much soak up most of the excess juice in that marketplace nowadays.

I think it is actually a good time to be quitting the escrow business, or at least taking a break.  I know that I have been giving it some serious thought as I watch the Core/Classic situation develop.  With some luck any potential forking will be smooth...  For now though, I'm happy to do my part to help add a little safety to this place and keep legitimate trading here as free flowing as possible.  One coin.  One love.  Smiley

Today I received replacements for our 2 dead boards from Bitmain.  I just finished installing them and you should see a hashrate increase shortly.  Smiley

EDIT:  That was short lived.  12 hours later one of the boards is already showing dead.  I've emailed Bitmain.
EDIT 2:  A week later and still no response from Bitmain.  Another email has been sent and I have reached out to my contact with Bitmain US to see if he can be of any assistance.
15298  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Why are Cassius coins sold for more than they are worth? on: January 25, 2016, 09:21:30 PM
When I was tasked to help out the General Motors accounting team through (plan B) their bankruptcy, I was shocked to learn how much in materials it costs to actually build a car.  You would be surprised how little the number is.  An overwhelming amount of the costs are in the planning, testing, and tooling of the needed machines to build the parts.  If you think the value of something is only determined by it's raw materials, I would allude to you overpaying by about 90% for every new car you've ever purchased.
