I'd love to see NastyPool added to the wiki.  It's a P2Pool node with some unique and exclusive features.

I'm not understanding the physics as to why a 6" long tube on the end makes it any quieter.  Do you have dB meter readings to back this up?

The 6" was diameter.  Sorry.  It is actually multiple feet long and leads outside, so that is where a majority of the noise is routed.  I was just curious if a shorter 7" diameter insulated duct over the exhaust fan would also have a good noise reducing effect.  I thought it might.

I would LOVE to setup a group buy, as I think that is the only way I would get my hands on one of these machines.

armed militia has been working on one since the start of september

That looks like some sort of hosted joint investment on an SP50.  I would like to find 5-10 individuals willing to each purchase 1 or more full units for themselves so that we can place an order with Spondoolies.  I have been in contact with 3 people who are willing to purchase multiple units already (if the price is as expected), but again, it appears Spondoolies is not particularly interested in entertaining sales talks at this time.

15307  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: How to sound proof a pair of s-7 miners. on: October 30, 2015, 06:52:48 PM
I have 6" non-insulated ducting to exhaust the heat and I'm surprised at the noise reduction.  That alone makes a 100% fan quieter than a 65% fan without it. Have you tried a shorter length, like say 10" over the exhaust fan only? I am wondering if that would be enough to make a noticeable difference.

Perhaps a cheaper alternative?

15310  Economy / Speculation / Re: Barriers to entry gone, nothing will stop the next bubble, discuss.... on: October 30, 2015, 12:41:40 AM
I wouldn't say the barriers are gone.  It is still impossible to buy BTC from a licensed exchange in several states.  Definitely making progress though.

compared to 2013 when your only option was wester union and dwolla and gox.... now those are some barriers

Actually, I was using gox and dwolla back in 2011 to buy coins.  It was pretty simple.  Now it is impossible for me to buy BTC from a licensed exchange.  Hopefully they are able to clear the last few states from whatever legal hurdles are standing in the way soon.

Here is some information that I have gathered:

Fan Speed             My Findings
                             S5          S7
65% = 4200
40% = 3600         3000      3120
35% = 3200         2760      2760
30% = 2800                      2520
25% = 2500
20% = 2000

Quoting for good measure (and for easy reference).

15319  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: October 27, 2015, 07:44:21 PM
Evening all,

First post and all that, but have been following this thread for months now,

Do we know of the possibility of a group buy being set up? or is that out of the question.

I currently run a number of Spondoolies-tech SP3x series and would like to keep buying their kit due to the unrivalled build quality and form factor.

Kinda a guessing game when buying second hand kit.

Regards
Alex

I would LOVE to setup a group buy, as I think that is the only way I would get my hands on one of these machines.  The problem is that 1) without a published price, it would be impossible to arrange 2) without having all of the group buy participants and money together, SP won't acknowledge that I want to place an order and give me the necessary information 3) without SP giving their approval, I can't even say that they will sell to me if I did get 15 buyers together who wanted to purchase.

It appears the impression is that the units will sell for between 30-45K each and will be available in Q1 of 2016.  I would say if there's genuine interest among a dozen people who have that kind of $, I would love to host a group buy.  Unfortunately, I think it would have to be done blindly for the buyers, without knowing the actual price until all the BTC is collected and a deal has been made with Spondoolies.

In short, if you want 1 of these units, have ~$40K sitting around, and want to pledge it for a group buy of one of these machines, feel free to drop me a PM and let me know.  If there were a dozen people, I think it would warrant a conversation between myself and Spondoolies.

As mentioned, jtoomim would make for a great choice to host a GB as well, and I would be interested in joining that if it were made available also.
