Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) argues in an exclusive interview with Breitbart News that he is the best positioned 2016 GOP presidential candidate to beat former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the presumptive Democratic nominee, in a general election face-off.

In states such as Colorado, Iowa, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Arizona and more, Paul has been shown to be leading Clinton in polls.

“I think in order to win these states that President Obama you got to attract independents and consistently in at least five states we’re leading her—in states that were won by President Obama, we win the independent vote,” Paul said. “I think that’s an important feature because people want so badly to have somebody who can beat Hillary Clinton. I think it’s one of our strongest calling cards right now: We’re the only one beating her in all five of these states.”

Paul, who’s polling best against Clinton among the entire Republican field, said he isn’t sure if Bill Clinton—the former president and Hillary’s husband—meant him when he said in an interview with CNN this weekend that he thinks Republicans will “wind up voting [in the primary] for the person they think has the best chance to win” the general.

“You know, I don’t know—far be it from me to know what goes on inside Bill Clinton’s head,” Paul said when asked if he thought Bill Clinton was talking about him.

On the day Hillary Clinton formally launched her presidential campaign with a rally on Roosevelt Island in New York City, and gave a speech laden with promises and appeals on women’s rights and other progressive causes, failed 2012 Republican candidate Mitt Romney told a GOP gathering his party could have an all-woman ticket in 2016.

Speaking at his own closed-to-the-press conference in Park City, Utah, Romney reportedly praised the former Hewlett-Packard chief executive Carly Fiorina, a declared candidate for the GOP nomination, and said he would not be surprised if the Republicans turned out to be “the party that has two women on the ticket”.

Hillary Clinton Paid by Jeb Bush’s Education Company

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton received nearly a quarter of a million dollars last year for a speaking engagement on behalf of Academic Partnerships, a for-profit education company in which Jeb Bush held an ownership stake and on whose board he served.

Clinton’s newly filed personal financial disclosure shows that she was paid $225,500 on March 24, 2014 by Academic Partnerships. At the invitation-only event in Dallas, Texas, Clinton reportedly said, “today a student doesn’t need to travel to Cambridge, Mass., or Cambridge, England, to get a world-class education.”

Academic Partnerships assists universities in converting their academic degree programs into online versions that can be taken by students around the world.

In 2011, Bush joined Academic Partnerships as an investor and as a paid advisor. He helped the company host multiple conferences and has appeared in online videos encouraging others to consider the Academic Partnership business model. Though he did not share the stage with Clinton, Bush spoke at the same conference.

Preparing for an expected bid for the Republican nomination for president, Bush resigned from Academic Partnerships in December.

Rand Paul's long game

Although Beltway observers have decided that Sen. Rand Paul's presidential campaign is on a losing trajectory, from an historical standpoint, he's doing precisely what many of the most successful aspirants did who won the presidency.

What's that?

Rather than bow to his party's powerful insiders, most of whom became influential during George W. Bush's decade leading the Republicans (as presidential candidate, nominee and incumbent), Paul's working to unseat them. He's working to change his party's leadership and, consequently, the factional composition and ideological bent of its governing coalition. (It shouldn't be a surprise that a plurality of these GOP insiders believe Jeb Bush will be their party's presidential nominee. Each knows which side his or her bread is buttered on.)

So, the salient question now is whether Paul in 2016 is more like Reagan in 1976 or 1980?

We likely won't know the answer to this for some time yet, but what we do know is that Paul is playing the long game. He's worked to ensure that he'll be able to run for re-election to the Senate next year, if his presidential bid fails. Retaining his Senate seat allows him to stay politically relevant and keep at his quest to change his party and win the presidency. In short, I wouldn't count him out for a long while yet.

Today's agreements aren't focused on lowering barriers, but harmonizing global regulations at the cost of sovereignty.

Fast track commits Congress to an up-or-down vote on whatever the president’s trade negotiators deliver, without the possibility of filibuster in the Senate or further amendments. It thus streamlines and expedites the process of Congressional approval: under fast track, trade deals get special treatment unavailable to other kinds of legislation. And without fast track, it is unlikely that President Obama will be able to pass two controversial trade agreements with our Asian and European allies and competitors.

Fast track approval in the House now hinges crucially on Republican votes because most Democrats are bucking their president to vote against his trade agenda. But why are so many conservatives willing to trust the Obama administration on this issue, while otherwise trying to thwart it at every turn?

Conservatives are caught between their general support for “free trade” and a concern to uphold American national sovereignty. The support for free trade doesn’t just come from a general pro-business orientation; it reflects an older idea that trade unencumbered by government regulation is not only good for business, but good for individuals and for society as a whole, continuous with rights of property and liberty generally.

But today’s trade agreements aren’t really about free trade, at least not as traditionally understood. They are efforts to achieve regulatory harmonization across borders, initiatives in what is now called “global governance.” They don’t keep the state out of the marketplace so much as bring it in, on selective terms, to favor powerful corporate interests at the expense of national sovereignty.

Nowhere is this more clear than in the new enthusiasm for special “investor-state dispute settlement” (ISDS) mechanisms. ISDS gives foreign corporations the right to sue national governments for regulations that interfere with their expected profits. It allows multinational litigants to bypass the national courts and instead empowers panels of private arbitrators—most of whom are practicing attorneys who cycle in and out of arbitral work—the right to sit in judgment of national laws. These arbitrators owe no special allegiance to any particular system of justice. They are not bound by precedent, and what precedent there is has often been developed by earlier ad hoc panels, not judges vested with constitutional authority. And the decisions of ISDS panels are typically final, not subject to review by any higher court.

The inclusion of ISDS in the proposed trade deals shows just how far the trade agenda has been transformed in recent decades. The old trade agenda—the plan to bring down tariffs in the postwar era—was largely successful. Tariffs are now lower than they have ever been and, in many sectors, almost gone altogether. But instead of declaring victory, the trade agenda morphed into something else: a subtle and ongoing push to integrate regulatory regimes across borders. Obama’s trade agreements represent a vigorous new effort to construct new global rules that go beyond simply freeing up trade to bind individual nations to new international regulations.

But the choice for conservatives should be clear. A vote for fast track is not, at root, a vote for free trade. Rather, it is a vote to grant the White House broad authority to make treaties, in secret, for a new era of global economic governance.

Rand Paul, the NSA, John McCain, and Salon.com

Rand Paul's temporary stopping of the Patriot Act's bulk metadata collection has spurred a predictable assault from both the mainstream left and the mainstream right. Two particular examples show the strange political mating that can take place when interests align.

First, on Sunday night, May 31, John McCain grumbled on the Senate floor that Rand Paul was letting the world burn to score political points. Then, on Monday, June 1, Salon published an article arguing that the collection of big data is a net positive for people of color and that Paul's attack on the NSA is a function of his white privilege.

The alliance between Salon and McCain against Rand Paul is an interesting coming together of political foes. Essentially, their loathing of Paul overcomes their loathing of each other. For McCain, making common cause with a liberal online magazine that spent the entirety of the 2008 Presidential election cycle savaging him must be an odd feeling. And for Salon, allying with the man who gave us the Palins must be similarly odd.

But it makes sense when you think about it.

But that was just his public position and not his personal feeling which is what he articulated in the Senate. These war mongering/pro-surveillance state folks have been lying about this bulk data collection saying how great it is in helping stop terrorism when in reality, it's just brazen lies to scare people into allowing them to spy at will w/ no limits. The FBI and some group set up by the Obama administration said point blank that this data collection has done nothing to make us safer. The point is, many times in the past these neocon types have said terrorist attacks will come if we don't grow the state's power over us and or fight more and more overseas which subtly means they would welcome more attacks to further their statist goals and keep the MIC rolling in profits. Being Moody: Rand Paul strikes out while Obama cheers

Not unlike Capitol Hill, Republican lawmakers compete against Democrats.Their staffers cheer in separate sections. And the playing field is paid for mostly by lobbyists, which in years past have included the Middle Eastern nation of Qatar, Pfizer, the Koch brothers and Buffalo Wild Wings. (The only true bipartisan area of the stadium is the bar section in centerfield, where the blues and the reds drink away their misgivings about bipartisan mingling.) All proceeds from the game go to charity.

It has been a tough few years for the Republican team. Before Thursday's game, the GOP had lost six straight years, suffering absolute slaughters of 22-0 two years ago and 15-6 last year.

The Democrats' not-so-secret weapon is their pitcher, Louisiana Democratic Rep. Cedric Richmond, a young lawmaker who played college ball and has been known to hurl 80-mile-an-hour heat from the mound.

This year, Richmond's pitches were slower due to a recent surgery, but Republicans fared no better. Democrats racked up their seventh straight victory, winning 5-2.

In the middle of this year's game, President Barack Obama paid an unexpected visit. His entrance halted the game for several minutes before play resumed and he watched from the Democrats' dugout.

Rand Paul mocks Hillary during campaign speech

Hillary Clinton's speech re-announcing her Democratic bid for the presidency brought out the GOP criticism Saturday — and prompted some Twitter snarking by Republican presidential candidate Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky.
"There is still time to get your own Hillary Hard Drive. If you're ready for #LibertyNotHillary, get yours here," Paul tweeted, linking to a fake hard drive dubbed "Hillary's Hard Drive" sold by his presidential campaign — a reference to Hillary's use of a personal email account and hard drive during her time as head of the State Department.

Jeb Bush used his new campaign video to jab Hillary's limited media availability, a move that has frustrated news agencies and led to a regular New York Times feature on the "questions we would have asked Mrs. Clinton had we had the opportunity."

"We're probably around 800 to 900 questions asked and hopefully answered," Jeb said in the video.

The Republican National Committee issued a more direct response to Hillary's speech, saying it was "chock full of hypocritical attacks, partisan rhetoric and ideas from the past that have led to a sluggish economy leaving too many Americans behind."

"Next year, Americans will reject the failed policies of the past and elect a Republican president," said Republican National Committee spokeswoman Allison Moore.

Chris Christie takes a veiled swipe at Rand Paul over Patriot Act

In an apparent swipe at Sen. Rand Paul, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on Friday blasted politicians who have tried to raise money off of their opposition to the Patriot Act – going as far as calling such actions  a “disgrace.”

During his opening remarks at a town hall meeting in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Christie told the crowd that the president’s No. 1 priority is to protect Americans. “And yet, you’ve got folks—some of them running for president—who stood on the floor of the United States Senate and weakened our country and then sent out videos of it to try and raise money.”

“They bragged about how much money they raised … To me, that’s a disgrace,” added the governor, who is expected to announce whether he will officially run for president in the next few weeks. Christie has argued for the re-authorization of the Patriot Act, arguing it’s an important tool to combat terrorism.

RAND PAUL: ‘I MAY BE THE MOST UNPOPULAR PERSON IN WASHINGTON RIGHT NOW’

On Thursday’s “Kennedy” on the Fox Business Network, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), a candidate for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination, defended his positions on national security and foreign policy and pointed out that in his view it is paying dividends for him politically.

Paul declared some who oppose his point of view to be “old moss-covered GOP.”

“I think there’s a lot of people out there who aren’t represented by the old moss-covered GOP,” he said. “I think the new GOP does have a foundation outside of the Beltway. Even on foreign policy, if you poll the issue – should we be more involved in the Middle East or less involved. Less involved polls 40-45 percent, maybe 50 percent in most of the early primaries.”

The junior Kentucky Republican senator went on to declare his stand against the National Security Agency and its bulk data collection efforts to be a “significant accomplishment,” but with the cost of his popularity in Washington, D.C.

“Actually I think a significant accomplishment was a rebuke to the president,” Paul said. “To say to the president, ‘it is illegal to collect our records, it’s illegal to collect them and store them in Utah. The court has told you so and now Congress has told you so.’ I was with the part of the bill that eliminated the bulk collection. I just didn’t want send bulk collection over to the phone companies. So, I still believe that the Fourth Amendment says that records can only be collected with individualized suspicion. Interestingly, that’s a very unpopular position in Washington. I may well be the most unpopular person in Washington right now. But if you get outside the Beltway, it’s very popular. I’m finding as travel in Iowa and New Hampshire, South Carolina — crowds are coming by the hundreds and they all want to be left alone. Part of this new GOP coalition are called the ‘leave me alone coalition.’ And I think it’s growing rapidly.”

Rand did piss off a lot of people (Senators and other elected officials) during and after his filibuster of the Patriot Act despite him doing the right thing and looking out for all of us here and abroad. Rand is doing things on the foreign policy front for everyone that loves liberty across the world and for personal liberties here at home for all that value their privacy, so I think we should all be the wind at his back. If you hate the establishment and elite across the world and particularly in the US, you must think and back Rand Paul for President of the USA in your own way of support. Rand Paul: Snowden triggered surveillance reforms
Presidential candidate appeared at San Diego GOP dinner

Sen. Rand Paul said Saturday that former national security contractor Edward Snowden changed the political climate and helped open doors to government surveillance reform.

The GOP presidential candidate stopped short of saying whether Snowden should be prosecuted for leaking documents about secret government mass surveillance programs.

“I don’t think that’s really up to me. I think he did break the law and I think that we can’t have people making their own mind up to reveal secrets,” the Kentucky senator said in an interview at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront hotel. Later, he addressed more than 700 people at the Republican Party of San Diego County’s annual Lincoln Reagan Dinner.

Paul added that Director of National Security James Clapper should also face scrutiny. Clapper misled Congress when he told members that the government wasn’t collecting bulk phone records, when it was, Paul said.

“You can’t have either one,” he said of the acts by Snowden and Clapper. “I’ve kind of flippantly said that they should share the same cell.”
