I think that NHL players would give USA team much more quality, but it wouldn't make that much of a difference like when France is playing football without Mbappe, Coman and others... In ice hockey there are three or even four lines that play together and they are always changing every few minutes. Ice hockey is a very intense game and no player can play for more than few minutes. That's why I think that one or two players from the NHL would make such a big difference. They would bring some quality but not that much like Mbappe brings to the France football team. After all, USA is constantly playing in the top rank of the World cup even though they almost never play with the best NHL players.

I used to play ice hockey in an amateur club. It was at the time Medvescak played in the Austrian league and later in the KHL. Bunch of us that were attending the games got together and created a club. It was great and I love the sport. I'm very sad that I don't have time for to play anymore. Back then I was watching all world cup games and I never understood why the IIHL never wanted to schedule the World cup so that it is played when the NHL season is over. But USA team was always full of young players that wanted to prove themselves.

It all depends how far is their NHL season because players which clubs gets kicked out of the playoffs are free to play for the national team. And it's a big difference when NHL players are playing for the national team and when they are not playing.
