I have to stop buying ................................. anything but GPUs and risers.

1542  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 6 x gtx 1070 ti with nicehash. daily payout changing every other min on: November 20, 2017, 03:47:49 AM
You can set the Nicehash software to ignore individual algorithms.

The nature of their marketplace is not coin specific, so you CAN'T specify specific coins to enable or disable - just algorithms.

10 gauge wire IS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO SAFE FOR 60 AMPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You need to downsize that breaker to not more than a 30 AMP immediately.

60 amps needs more like 4 gauge wire as I recall (working from memory here, not from an actual wire table).
1543  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Are 1070 TI's the next best GPU for mining? 4.7 sols per watt on: November 20, 2017, 03:42:08 AM
The price I saw for it was $200 on newegg. For the 1070ti price I saw was $450 and would be mining neoscrypt or equihash. My calculations could be a bit off but so far it seems the 580 would ROI faster?
RX 580 cards start from $250 on newegg, and that's for the most basic 4gb versions. Decent cards with decent coolers are closer to $300, and the 8gb versions are more than $300. Current high profits from these Polaris cards are all from ETN, which is a new coin that might go down really fast. After that it's back to ETH, and you're not likely to get 30 MH/s (as whattomine suggests when you select rx 580) from the cheapest 4gb rx 580 cards cause these days they often ship with weak hynix and elpida memory chips that you're lucky to get 27-28 MH/s from. So it's less than $1.5 a day per card.

Some of the 570 cards have been hitting $229 on Newegg, but nothing consistantly below that other than refurbs or open boxes - so far.

Might change over the next month though, AMD card pricing IS dropping slowly.

You CAN get the Sapphire "mining" 470 cards pretty consistantly at $260 or $279 - seems like ONE of the models is always in stock lately - and those have VERY good cooling.

 4GB cards you're doing good to get to 28 Mhash/sec on ETH AFTER a BIOS mod - doesn't matter if it's 470 480 570 or 580 on that.

The other thing to keep in mind - the BLUE WHALE in the room - is that ETH goes Proof of Stake sometime next year if they stay on their current plan or semi-close - at which point profitability of pretty much ALL GPU-mineable coins will quickly collapse as those 4 MILLION or so cards currently mining ETH (mostly AMD) look for new homes.

On the plus side, card prices on AMD cards should ALSO collapse at that point as a lot of "marginal" miners find out that they're unprofitable and end up dumping used cards.

1544  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Every which period of time bitmain release a new miner ? on: November 20, 2017, 03:29:21 AM
considering Whatsminer made some pretty significant improvements on the 28nm node process

 Nope.
Their efficiency is almost EXACTLY what the old S7 managed - though the S7 WAS a major improvement over the S5 or even the Spondoolies SP20e running at "efficient" chip voltage.

Bitmain went DIRECTLY to "make it efficient" on the 14/16nm node - they had the Innosilicon A3 (that never ended up shipping apparently because it WASN'T much if any more efficient than the S7) and the first-generation BW.COM SHA256 miners to compete with that were announced products by the time the S9 first shipped, and BitFury had already demoed their 14/16nm chip with BETTER efficiency (at it's most efficient but low hashrate operating point) than the S9 ever managed.

Even with the improvements GF TSMC and Samsung have made to their processes since then, I doubt there is a lot of improvement Bitmain could make to the S9 on efficiency without moving to a new node.
 10%, likely.
 20%, iffy.
30% - no bloody way at this point.

And given the COST to design chips at 14/16nm, 10% isn't worth their time, 20% probably isn't (though I suspect they've tried some DESIGN work to see if they could get there), and most folks aren't going to consider 30% worth investment into at this late date even if they COULD manage it (or you wouldn't see folks buying Avalon 7xx series and EBang units that are ballpark 30% WORSE than the S9).

1545  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Sixth alt coin thread I forgot to mod last thread. on: November 20, 2017, 03:21:15 AM
It's solid enough I could put rollers on it - but no point at this time for me.
If you build one, a common "4 bolt" type castor should work by using wood screws into the bottom of the vertical 2x4 on each corner.

No need for a shroud either, it'll be positioned so that the intake side is in my "cold aisle" and the exhaust will be pushing back into the area my Evaps suck their air in from.

My planning right now is to rebuild existing rigs into 5-card riser rigs since my current motherboards pretty much all only have 5 slots anyway (the B250 Mining Pro being the one BIG exception, but that would end up taking up 3 slots for about a 15 card rig, mix of 1070 ti and 1080 ti cards if I did THAT - a thought I've already done a bit of "planning" for).

Tentatively, I figure long term on feeding one of these racks from a L6-30 drop cord with either a PDU or a self-wired subpanel setup with 4 x 15amp breakers (there is plenty of space to mount a small QO panel on the top shelf then route the wiring between 2 side verticals and mount the outlets on the shelf support boards).

Breakers 1 and 4 would feed 2 rigs each, breakers 2 and 3 one rig each (though I might go with a higher-power rig on those circuits) + 1 box fan + (monitor or LAN switch).
If I went with the B250 Pro option, MB and 5 cards would be on breaker 2 or 3, 2 "ps + 5 or 6 cards only" on breaker 1 or 4, and the MB would be running on at least a 1000 and possibly as high as a 1300 watt supply.

My current place doesn't have the infrastructure in place to do that (I only have 1 30-amp outlet in the whole place, and not planning to be here long enough to make it worthwhile to convince the landlord to let me rewire the place for more), but I can use 4 of these with the current infrastructure just by careful placement near existing outlets in the short term.

A 6 card rig per slot would probably work, if you had a VERY low power CPU and MB setup - 1070 ti or 1070 should stay cool enough on 3.4" center-to-center riser spacing - but 5 cards at a little over 100 watts + existing FX 8350e CPU + existing AM3+ motherboard + existing ram/HD push right at 6 amps per rig which is the limit I'm willing to build a rig for when I plan to put 2 of them on a single 15 amp circuit - and I already HAVE several of the CPU/MB/RAM/HD sets on hand.

One thing I have already noted - to get the full 24" width I need to use a fairly short card in the end position, like a Zotac Mini, or that card ends up sticking out past the back a ways for clearance - or I need to position the "rig" shelves back a little more to allow for more clearance between the "shelf mount" board of the slot above and the end of the shelf.
Since I already HAVE some Zotacs (and some Gigabyte ITXs that are even shorter), that's a trivial-easy choice for now. 8-)

1546  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: EWBF's CUDA Zcash miner on: November 20, 2017, 12:12:50 AM
"Monitor one rig" is WORTHLESS - and that $2 is per rig PER 30 DAYS.

If it was a one-time "per rig" fee that wouldn't be so bad.

1547  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Every which period of time bitmain release a new miner ? on: November 20, 2017, 12:11:22 AM
can someone correct me,i heard that they sell refurbished miners
i really not sure a friend of mine said this to me he bought 8 miners and had to send back 6 and had to pay for shipping fee to resend them back

It is widely rumored that Bitmain will mine with a specific miner for a while THEN sell it as a "new unit".

They HAVE sold units specific LABELED as "used" in the past, usually older units, at a fairly deep discount - but since the S7 is still profitable at their electric cost they've not done such a sale since just before the S7 was introduced, on the S5.

They ARE widely known to have some serious quality control issues with the S9 model - if it wasn't significantly more efficient than any other model an "end user small miner" can easily get ahold of they probably would have nearly ZERO sales of the S9 by now.

Early glimpse at my new project.
Been bouncing this design around in my head for a while, but decided to finally get off the dime and get one built.

The new, LOW COST, Quintleo 6 rigs rack-shelf unit.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1KF4JIr7gdDvcFtd_263QzX5rrzpRWpe4/view?usp=sharing

(Ignore the date on the pics, I've not bothered resetting the clock in the camera.)

When I build more than one, I plan to put sheetrock between each one to limit the potential of fire damage and to help direct airflow.

The top shelf is offset forward, to put a keyboard trackball monitor and LAN switch on.

The other 6 shelves are offset backwards, with the intent of mounting a pair of 20" box fans on the front to blow LOTS of cooling air through the "rig shelfs".

This one I partly "recycled" one of my earlier shelf units to build.
It also doesn't work out quite "even" on the parts - it needs one "spare" pair of the 16" cut boards for shelf supports.

To build it, you need 4 standard 96" 2x4 boards (2 cut in half for the 4 verticals, 2 cut into 12 each 6" x 16" boards for shelf support) plus a spare 1/3d of a 2x4 for the shelf supports for the last shelf.
7 x 2'x2' fibreboard (I prefer to stay close to 3/4" - can use plywood instead, I'm not sure if particleboard would be solid enough to work but PROBABLY).
56 8-penny common nails (can use 10-penny in a pinch but the ends tend to stick out a bit past the end of the boards.
70 6 penny nails (hold the shelves on AND provide rigidity left-to-right)

I went with the "6 rigs" option mostly due to power distribution factors - it's entirely possible to build a varient that will hold 8, or 10 rigs without getting TOO high to be workable with.

1549  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining on Ubuntu 17.10 on: November 19, 2017, 11:40:56 PM
So how big is the difference between win10 vs Ubuntu 16 in hashrate?

 It depends.

For MOST coins, Linux will give a hair higher hashrates if you can optimise the cards to the same point.

However, sometimes the ability to UNDERVOLT directly in Windows will give it some advantage on efficiency vs LINUX as LINUX doesn't support undervolting at this point (except via BIOS mods on the card itself).

For Monero, due to lack of a WORKING Vega driver, you don't even have the OPTION to mine with Vega under LINUX.

LINUX is also a LOT more stable than any Win 10 system I have EVER worked with or seen - it's also more stable than any Win 7 system I've worked with or seen, but that is closer (IMO Win 10 is about 2 years away AT LEAST from achieving tolerable stability for a workstation, it's JUNK right now).

The only reason to even CONSIDER Win 10 is for that AMD "blockchain driver" which flat out does not WORK under Win 7 in every attempt I've made on it *AND* if you have a Vega card.

In the LA area they'll be lucky to get TO 10 cents/kwh even at industrial rates - LA has to import GIGAWATTS to support the folks LIVING there, they don't have power surplus.

If a group wants to set up in North America, they need to be looking at areas with surplus Hydropower - Central Washington, perhaps TVA area, Labrador, Quebec - that keeps local electric rates low.

1551  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 6 x gtx 1070 ti with nicehash. daily payout changing every other min on: November 19, 2017, 11:34:07 PM
What do u guys think about the miner 2 vs the legacy one they still have listed? I'm thinking about starting my second build and this time going with vega 64 and see how that goes.

I have ZERO use for that stupid "Version 2" of their miner.
Tried it once - never again.

1552  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Anyone know of a cheap under $200 gpu for mining ? on: November 19, 2017, 10:10:41 PM
At the rate prices are going, the bottom end RX 470/570/480/580 cards should get back under $200 in another month or two.

1553  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining on Ubuntu 17.10 on: November 19, 2017, 10:09:44 PM
I've never seen a point (yet) to upgrading from XUbuntu 14.04 for mining rigs.

If AMD ever gets their PRO drivers working with VEGA, that *might* change - but that looks like it's going to be months away at best, and possibly years, that whole revamp they did on their LINUX drivers after 15.12 has been nothing but nightmare.

1554  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Number of fans on: November 19, 2017, 10:07:30 PM
On Gigabyte specifically, the 3 fan "Windforce" models cool a little better than the 2 fan "Windforce" models - but it's not a HUGE difference.

Single fan cards cool even less well - I wouldn't even LOOK at a 1070ti or 1080 single-fan model (if they exist) - the 1070 Gigabyte ITX model is ok *IF* you have ZERO fan blockage, the MSI "Aero Mini" is very marginal.

1555  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: What should I mine with this server? on: November 19, 2017, 10:04:41 PM
There is at least one older XMR miner that will work on a CPU with no AES instructions - but it's a lot less efficient than current XMR miners.

Does this server have PCI-E slot(s)?

 ROFLMAOSC

Dude, Southern California is a HORRIBLE place to try to do cryptomining in - VERY high electric costs....

1557  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 6 x gtx 1070 ti with nicehash. daily payout changing every other min on: November 19, 2017, 09:56:11 PM
NEVER bother looking at anything less than the "12 hour average" on Nicehash - it bounced around WAY too much due to how their marketplace works.

1558  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Can my computer mine ether? on: November 19, 2017, 09:53:52 PM
HD 8210 doesn't have enough RAM to mine ETH - you need at least a 3GB card RIGHT NOW and fairly soon 3GB won't be enough.

You do NOT need a "current" card to mine ETH - one of the better ETH cards for hashrate is still the R9 290 (or 390), though their power consumption is quite a bit higher than current cards.

Do NOT use a 1080 or 1080ti to mine ETH with. PERIOD. They are not good at it due to latency issues with the GDDR5X ram they use.

At CURRENT pricing, don't look at any NVidia card except PERHAPS the 1060.
Vega is quite a bit overpriced for IT'S ETH production as well, though not as badly as the 1070 and up - Vega is a MUCH better card mining Monero at this time.
For the price of ONE Vega you can get a pair of most RX 470/480/570/580 models that WILL hash quite a bit faster as a pair then a single Vega on ETH.

1559  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Help Please - Vega 56 Mining Rig Troubleshooting on: November 19, 2017, 09:47:09 PM
Wattman is the radeon tool.  I would much prefer to use afterburner but apparently it doesn't work with the Vegas.  I can get the overdriventool i guess.

Afterburner 4.4 DOES work with Vega on the Blockchain drivers.

THANK GOODNESS - I hate that "wattman" piece of garbage.

In fact, when you install the drivers ONLY let it install the drivers themselves not the 3 extra "addon" pieces of worthlessness.

1560  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Help Please - Vega 56 Mining Rig Troubleshooting on: November 19, 2017, 09:45:38 PM
Should you turn off ULPS for mining?

 Yes. DEFINITELY yes.

Otherwise any card that does not have an actual monitor (or possibly a dummy plug) will tend to go into "low performance" mode after a while.

Sometimes WITH a monitor or a dummy plug too.
