Hi Legendary Member, Hero Member, Senior Member, Full Member etc. Could pls tell the most secure and also convinent to use btc wallet. thanks
if you are new to bitcoin i suggest coinbase. people say that web wallets dont really have good security. but i think if you have 2fa on you arent gonna get hacked. if youre looking for a phone wallet, check out mycelium.

Coinbase really is different then most "hot" web wallets.   With them you don't have control of the private key your only way to get to BTC is through them.  So as long as they don't get compromised it is great.  If they ever do they are one of the few that have a insurance policy on it.

So compare that to mycellium where you do have key.  Just a lot of differences between the two.   Both have advantages but vastly different.
1562  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: No Mining = End of Bitcoin? on: March 29, 2016, 03:14:39 AM
As I understand mining still has years to go, and when mining is done, transaction fees will keep machines running.

Transaction fees?  Isn't that counter intuitive?  One of the big selling points of Bitcoin is that you can send BTC anywhere around the world for free.  Charging transaction fees is becoming another Western Union or Paypal.

You really have some reading to do on BTC. Smiley .  No transaction fee's are not counter intuitive to long term goals.

Reward ( https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining#Reward )
When a block is discovered, the discoverer may award themselves a certain number of bitcoins, which is agreed-upon by everyone in the network. Currently this bounty is 25 bitcoins; this value will halve every 210,000 blocks. See Controlled Currency Supply.

Additionally, the miner is awarded the fees paid by users sending transactions. The fee is an incentive for the miner to include the transaction in their block. In the future, as the number of new bitcoins miners are allowed to create in each block dwindles, the fees will make up a much more important percentage of mining income.

Don't want to post it all but good info here: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Controlled_supply

You can very easily fix both the PSU and Miner yourself.

Parts shouldn't cost any more than $10 to put new pins on the PSU with a new plug and for a new Molex ATX PCIe plug for the miner.

The miner end may be tricky for him to repair since the plug is almost certainly a through hole component and it looks like it is located under the heatsink.  It isn't impossible to do, but it isn't for the uninitiated either.  As long as the pins are clean of residue and the cable plugs in to being snapped secure, I would avoid replacing the plug on the miner.  Disclaimer: this is based on a photo and my opinion may be different if I was looking directly at it.

The PSU end is repairable with some basic skill, but if it is his first time I would recommend having someone with experience do it with the proper crimping tool (these connectors are used so close to their rated maximum that they really need to be done perfectly).  All of the PSU ends need replacing if he is going to use the PSU again since they've been through the same mechanical stress that is the probable cause of this failure.

On PSU repairing most ATX psu's have decent RMA policy's.  So I'm betting he can get it fixed by sending it in with a RMA.  But I would never trust that brand/model again.

Which he bought dell kits which are pretty well tested by miners.  So he's already headed in right direction on that.   I'm hoping as phil said that will make problem gone, but it is very hard to tell not being able to see it in person.  Like crud in back if it is pushed back or needs cleaned.  I would just make sure to watch for heat when trying it again.  I  would watch very closely when trying to power again on if it feels hot.

If your grandma had testicles she would be your grand dad

key word is IF in both statements.

"If Yes"  to be exact in your idea.

Ohhh thank you for the many laughs philipma.  Was a funny as heck way to explain it gave me a unexpected laugh.

Also OP you are forgetting sadly most mining is done at mega mines with industrial size miners.   Us home/hobby people still exist but are becoming less and less of the hashrate.   What will be the long term of this?  Not really sure.  But I don't see no mining happening anytime soon.

And if bitcoin did fail (i don't see it happening anytime soon) I foresee there will always be a crypto currency that is used.  It just seems like technology that will not go away.
1565  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread Mar 18 to Mar 31? picks are closed.... prize = 0.1 btc on: March 29, 2016, 02:57:20 AM
The good news to is the 424 price right now.  We seem to be holding in 420+ currently... which is nice if we can have a new spot instead of 400.   If that lasts we all really win.

I don't see a huge jump up on difficulty considering S7 current batch say's shipping in 5 working day's.  It makes me wonder if bitmain is shipping and clearing shelves or if they are making a batch and shipping as they make.  I think watching them over next week or two will be interesting.

--snipped--

If a user brings something special they can pm Marco.  But chances are you will get the same response as first page as it is current or no response.   And the reason you have not received a response via PM is a LOT of people ask to join.
But all the others asked at the wrong time, as mentioned from another:"Wait until the payment problems have been resolved and the bot is fixed."
It has been resolved and fixed just yesterday, so I am putting it out there at this perfect timing of the course.

Bot is fixed which is great (Thanks Marco and BitcoinBoy).   But bot being fixed really had nothing to do with spots taken up, it's still a popular campaign with people wanting in.

You can ask 10 times but it does not change the anwser.   Look at almost every page it is asked multiple times.  I'm trying to help giving you the right anwser, I know it's not the one you want but correct anwser is still first part of first page:

www.cloudmining.website seems to be working. I invested a little to buy 10 Ghs in 2016. But, I was disappointed to see that their minimum withdrawal limit was 0.01 BTC. Recently, they have lowered it to 0.001 BTC. And, today I have got my payment...

https://blockchain.info/tx/30055c84ce01de2d61295a0a1e8f2983141a16f782b9a189cdc2153f5f533071
Don't shill for a ponzi mate, what good will it bring to unsuspecting newbies? Go search for dozens of threads created against them pointing out how they cannot be an actual investment site if you're not shilling
Lol they are still promoting cloudmining website it means that many investment site is outside in this forum and they are promoting it..
Better to stay away from any cloudmining site they are just the same as investment site.. they are paying right now but how about some days or months.. they will run your money..

At this point only one still around most would invest is hashnest.  It is backed by Bitmain.... so not going anywhere.  It's pretty much the current safest best on cloud mining.

Although with new price of S7 with coupon... I might suggest people take a look at it and a data center vs cloud mining.  I think it's the better bet currently and you own the hardware which is nice.
1568  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: WHICH BITCOIN WALLET IS THE MOST GOOD AND CONVINENCY on: March 28, 2016, 10:43:20 PM
Raspberry pi? What was that? Is it another hardware wallet or something cos I never heard of it before
The Raspberry Pi is a tiny and affordable computer, not exactly a hardware wallet.
Do you mean download bitcoin core and add raspberry pi
The other way around

I have seem some use for cold storage.  They unplug the RPI when they don't need to spend and only plug in when needing to spend.  You can get them for 35 dollars... so it does have some cost associated.

I would suggest putting that money twords a hardware wallet instead if going to spend money, but it still is a decent amount more for some hardware wallets.
1569  Economy / Services / Re: [BIT-X.com] Earn Bitcoins by Posting | Signature Campaign on: March 28, 2016, 10:35:56 PM
I would gladly take alexrossi's spot in the campaign if you allow me too macro  Smiley

I think they are not accepting new members even though there are some people leaving this campaign. As you can see, they are focusing on fixing payment issues atm. Even if there is available spots, I think its better to wait till the payment issue is fixed then you can join.

Tons of people already asked for slots but no one received any response from the campaign manager so it's clear that he is not accepting new members.
I doubt the bot here will be fixed tho or neither if they really have a plan to fix it. If they have, they could've done it already since a few months ago when the problem started. Marco is just to busy managing the campaign and addressin the problems. It's best if they can hire a new manager with more time to give for the participants.
They have fixed the bot (I might add, exceptional work Macrotheminer Cool) and the payments are flowing again thanks to BitCoin_BOy$.
This campaign seems to be in top form again as it was when it first started and to be on track again,
so I am asking once again, if I can join this campaign as I have waited almost four months to see if can be accepted.
I have not received any response in pm since they were busy straighten things out for everyone, so I recognize this and have been patient.
Any answer to my eligibility of joining since full/senior/hero members have left would be appreciated.
Thank you for your consideration.

It's been the same for a while now.  But it is still true and included all mentioned member groups:

Hi All,

My first post, so i will introduce myself... I'm Sara... Hi!

There is a lot of information around, I guess the hardest part is knowing where to start without jumping around and picking up bits of info, rather than something more structured!

I have bought an ant miner s3 used off eBay to get started with

Are there any getting started guides around you guys would recommend?

Thanks Smiley

Quick instructions.

-Get a receiving address from your wallet
-Join a mining pool.
-Create a worker on the pool
-Find your S3 on the network (factory default is 192.168.1.99) and use your web browser to connect to it
-Go to network tab and setup the info.  I recommend setting the miner to another address in case you ad a second.  Reconnect to the new IP.
-Go to system tab and administration.  put in a password.
-Go to status tab and miner configuration.
-Put in your pools stratum address, worker username and worker password.  If the pool does not use worker passwords just put an x.
-Save everything.
-Go to miner status and you should see the pool showing alive and the miner hashing.  If not reboot the miner and check again.

That's it for an S3.

By the way, what is a mining pool and what is S3?

One topic that I suggest you look into is ROI.   Or Return On Income, with crypto currency ROI makes or breaks you. It is going to be highly linked to your electricity price.   So you need to know your electricity price and be 100 percent sure of it then start looking into ROI.

But that is one of the biggest topics to look into when thinking about being a miner.   It also can be one of the hardest as speculation is not easy on difficulty currently.
1571  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Wanting to get into mining on: March 28, 2016, 10:23:15 PM
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
You need to add shipping cost and POWER SUPPLIES cost. Diff will jump quite a bit now that Bitmain has lowered the S7 price and all the fools will jump in and buy them.

The good thing about PSU's though is they last multiple generations.  Also they hold their value decent if you get good quality PSU's.  I have PSU's that have mined multiple generations and ROI'ed already.  Not all are this lucky, but keep it in mind that you will most likely use it again for a new generation of miner one day.

And if you don't use it again you can always sell it.  And again it holds value decent on a good quality one.  And server PSU's have kinda changed the game as they are so cheap compared to ATX.
1572  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Help Choosing... S5 or Spondoolies SP20? on: March 28, 2016, 10:20:28 PM
It's really a shame I missed the golden age of Bitcoin mining.  It must have been fun being able to mine hundreds and even thousands of Bitcoin back in '09 and '10.  Even better for those that have held on to them this whole time.  I started late December (2015)/early January of this year (2016) and I've only mined a total of .5195 (with my two S3s and a U3).  If only I had known!

It's hard to see it though.  I sometimes feel the same.... if I only would have mined during CPU day's.  But I did not it seemed like a crazy thing when I heard about it.  Some that mined it spent what would be tons of money on things years ago, best example is the well known pizza being bought.

You can't beat yourself up for it though.  Same thing goes for normal investing I think the same about netfix... I should have known as I hated rentals locally.  But I did not jump big so again I can't really go on forever beating my self up forever on it.

I suggest buying in your case and holding onto it.  Might not be a short term big profit you want.  But long term... maybe you will have a decent return.
1573  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: S7 antminer(4.7 ths) vs genesis mining(5ths) on: March 28, 2016, 10:16:07 PM
thanks for advise,

might take s7 instead, for electricity..might install at home, and planned to install solar system together for efficiency...

roughly...how long can earn 1Btc with good pool(roughly) with this machine..?

TQ

It is hard to speculate that in today's market.  You can enter into over here and try different difficulty changes - https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/calculator

To hit 1 BTC though .... no one can give you good speculation especially with so many S7's being sold right now.   It is essentially a guess.  But you did make a good choice going with getting a S7 vs cloud mining I think personally.
1574  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread Mar 18 to Mar 31? picks are closed.... prize = 0.1 btc on: March 28, 2016, 10:13:06 PM
Antpool was @ 300PH/s around 10 days ago and now they are mining with 342+ PH/s. Those 40+ PH/s are +2.5% of the network...  and its only one pool Sad
And there are new ~30PH pools popping up in China all the time, it's scary how fast they toss up farms over there.  I'm really hoping the halving makes big farms not cost efficient to run and we start seeing chunks of 30-40PH drop off the network instead of add to it.

I see a sharp rise  from april 15 to july 15  then the ½ an a big drop.

this should be a lot of fun  to watch

A big thing is once we hit next gen to.  Once we hit it we likely will see a skyrocket on difficulty and likely they  will fill up internal farms of the lucky one that hit's it first before selling to public.

Bitmain is either pushing to make another batch or they are clearing shelves with new coupon price.  I personally hope it's just another batch as I would enjoy some extra time mining current gen before next gen.

Your right that the next month will be something intersting to watch for sure.
1575  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Free Electricity - Best Miner on: March 28, 2016, 10:03:46 PM
I said that Bitcoin's price could potentially double for the halving, not that it will. I personally plan that the price will be around 600$, but mainly due to hype than the reduction of the supply. However, you are right, that it isn't a consummed product, and as simple as it is, I did not take this in account.

What you said was:

When I studied Economy, one of the first thing we learnt was that if the supply get reduced and the demand stay the same or drop a little, the price increase. The price of a Bitcoin is the price of how much it costs to produce. If you get two time less coins, price should get doubled, but you have to think that some mining farms will close. To don't have a price increase, you need that at least half of the mining farms close their doors after the halving. It may even be more but I won't do complex calculations here.

You did not say it could.... but that it should double.  And said you learned Economy class.... again it would be more of a investment class that would make sense to cover it.   A advanced one dealing with currency trading would be far better then econ101 class that might have a page on crypto (and most don't have that).

It is a free market on bitcoin so there are no guarantees of doubling, and we can't say "it should double" as it is not that simple.  Also it is a currency it is not a simple good like products normally focused on econ basics. Look since january it almost haved on difficulty.... and did price did not double.

There are just so many varibles it's far from simple to speculate.  And with having being known... it will not sneak up on us.  Investors could be considering it with current prices already.  Fact is we don't know months in crypto time is just to long to give good speculation.

That's true that my courses didn't had a crypto-currency chapter. When I said it should, I meant : in a theorical common market, dominated by supply and demand, the price would normally double. I know that it isn't true at all in Bitcoin, and I was not very clear about this point.

There is no need to continue this a Econ101 class topic.    There is a reason they did not cover it in your class.  BTC is not a product...... it is a form of currency.  A class on currency trading would be a much better fit then a standard econ class. So throw all those supply curve and other stuff your talking about out the window that were made for products.  Currency is much harder and speculation is not as easy.

We could hit having and not see doubling.  We have haved due to difficulty since January did we see doubling in price? Your assumptions are wrong.
1576  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: antminer s3 on: March 28, 2016, 09:57:58 PM
so it's about .10-.11 i believe around here so what would you estimate on how much hash rate i would need to start making decent profit?

Um, maybe you don't understand how this work? Its Earning vs Cost.

It doesn't matter how much hashrate you have, you won't profit. Use a simple calculator;
http://www.coinwarz.com/calculators/bitcoin-mining-calculator

It works good to calculate today's earning. For the S3, you're running it about 2 cents cost per 1 cent worth of BTC atm. As such even a S7 would be bad for you.

Putting it another way the more S3 based Hash you have the more money you will loose....  Sad

Rich

At .10  you should have sold a while ago and got a newer generation of gear.   .10 cent's per KWH is not free/super cheap needed at this point for S3's.  If I were you I would look at S7 due to new coupon price.    But at that electricity rate I would not buy a ton and go crazy.

Also you likely are better off to unplug S3 and sell it then run at this point.   It won't bring a ton but sell and buy BTC.
1577  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BITMAIN AntRouter R1: 1st wireless networking device with bitcoin mining chip on: March 28, 2016, 09:54:16 PM
Plugged the one in to the laptop and tried to run it through cgminer and cgminer wont load. It comes up with the first line then doesn't load until I unplug the U3. Ive just loaded it again while writing this and it says "MTX Icarus something". Also when it loads (after ive unplugged the U30 it says "AMU 0: write voltage comms error werr=-4 amount=0     Failed to set frequency, too much overclock?"

Now I haven't changed the settings since I last had it connected to cgminer before I got the R1. Would all that mean ive got a dead U3 now?
If you can't get the U3 hashing on its own no matter what (did you re-zadig a few times?) then you probably have a dead U3. Sad

My last U3 hashed along as it usually did until one day it just wouldn't get recognized by the computer any more and I gave it away for cost of shipping.

Yep done the zadig a few times and again tried loading cgminer etc first then plugging it in etc etc but nothing. Oh well time ti take it to bits and have a look at it.

Have you tried a different power supply?  I don't see that being mentioned that is something I would test to.

They are not really quality ones that were included with them at sale.
1578  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Help Choosing... S5 or Spondoolies SP20? on: March 28, 2016, 03:16:31 AM
based on the last post you should buy some btc and just hold it for 90 days.

if you buy .250 btc it would be about 107 usd

I would agree S5's run hot and loud..... so you will be under clocking if you went with one.  Also I think you might lose more in S5/SP20 in value then what you mine with current S7 price.  It is going to push all old gear down in my eyes (this is not instant though).   Your weather... sucks for mining.

With your heat and situation you are honestly better off buying and holding I think currently aswell.  You are right though not to put money into mining if you cannot lose with BTC and have other needs more vital.  There is nothing wrong with using priority's.
1579  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: March 28, 2016, 03:05:26 AM
I am having an issue with 3 of my s7 batch 2. They are running but not mining and I am not sure what do there seems to be no CG Miner after my last reset.

Miner Type Antminer S7
Hostname antMiner
Model GNU/Linux
Hardware Version x.x.x.x
Kernel Version Linux 3.8.13 #22 SMP Tue Dec 2 15:26:11 CST 2014
File System Version Fri Oct 23 17:00:53 CST 2015
Cgminer Version
Uptime 0
Load Average 0.18, 0.04, 0.01

That hardware version reporting as X.X.X.X with no hashing was discussed a page or two ago in this thread.  The person who reported it was able to fix it by reflashing the firmware.  I mentioned also that I had seen this behavior on previous antminer models (but not my S7's) and was able to fix it by doing the reset to default button.

Thank you

Make sure you are careful when messing with firmware.  If you have anyway to have a battery back up or way to make sure it does not lose power, and also make sure not to close window till finished.

I hate doing firmware updates myself.  My miners normally stay on the firmware they were shipped with at this point.  Changing firmware is kinda the last fix I try.

I'm not seeing anything wrong the the psu, though.  Like I said it is back on my S5 and working just fine, so I'm not sure what contacting OCZ here would accomplish, wouldn't I expect to see some issue with the psu?

I will contact Block C, though, and see if they can look the unit over or something, maybe they can get the pci-e receptacle replaced for me.

Here's a picture of it, what do you guys think?

You can tell it was the PSU in - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1257327.msg14328111#msg14328111 .  It melted though the plastic pretty bad. Looks like pieces might still be melted to back. That should not happen.  Normally it's low quality PSU's that have this problem, but it is possible to have a dud.   Contacting OCZ would be to RMA the PSU.  Although I would not use them again again after this.

But your right it does not hurt to contact Block C.  But I'm unsure what they will say/tell you to do this is not a issue I can remember in this thread.   So I could be forgetting something or it could be a new question for them.
