It is a picture explaining symmetric key cryptography; that is not the type of cryptography used by bitcoin. Bitcoin uses a subset of asymmetric cryptography called digital signatures. The data must be unencrypted for a digital signature to prove anything.

Are you listening to your self?
1562  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin commercial on: November 10, 2011, 06:11:10 AM
How will you be distributing the commercial? Who is your target audience?

Right now im looking into google ads but open to suggestions.

Target audience:
Gamers
Geeks
Business owners
anybody that has basic working knowledge of computers.

I wonder what kind of budget requirements a television station like G4 would cost for 30seconds(realisticaly 15 seconds i think)of ad time. I think that could be a good goal to reach honestly that would make this place boom with new ideas with all that geek power!

Looking for a writer who knows the ins and outs of bitcoin well enough to intruige an audience about bitcoin

Also looking for a someone to make the commercial it self.

Wont talk about payment options publicly.

Only people with past work to show for will be considered for payment.

Besides that i think the community can help refine progress i plan on releasing the commercial some time early to mid next year.

As to matthews comment
Your right we need more products/services but i think branding bitcoin a little bit could help too getting the name out ther reaching to potential bussiness owners with the same philosophy as us.

Encryption is a form of cryptography, not all cryptography is encryption.

See image above.

Bitcoins are not encrypted. Bitcoin does not use encryption at all. Cryptography yes, encryption no.

Wikipedia says "No"

This is one of the reasons why Bitcoin wont take off its because people are getting too complex with it to new people before they even know what a bitcoin address is were slamming with all this nerd information that no layman understands anyways.... this is what i told everyone on reddit.

Quote
These articles are aimed at non-nerdy people in a language they understand. I don't write these articles but I'm actively involved with the writer who does it and he does alot of PR work on trying to figure out way to "clearly" explain Bitcoin advantages to the everyday layman.

Anyways. The point is to get Bitcoins name out there... we can educate everyone in a precise manner once they are on board but right now we don't need to confuse the bagezus out of everyone with cold-hard-facts that they don't understand.

Thanks for your reply Etlase2 but the point is mainly to get people intrigued instead of constant "fear" that bitocin is complicated.

Although, purchasing a $10 russian VPN is kinda pointless if your trying to save the $10 from purchasing the game in the first place, unless you need a VPN its just dosen't seem cost effective to me I suppose, but you are a high-roller!

Exactly what I was saying, just take the cdkey he gives you and purchase a VPN with a russian IP address and then activate it through that way.

Apologies if i wasn't clear enough
1577  Economy / Goods / Re: Buying some steam games. on: November 06, 2011, 10:50:57 PM
Yeah its only for games that are out of your country code. But if you live in USA and your purchasing a USA game you just need the cdkey you don't need to give them your credentials. However if you live in USA and you want to purchase a Russian steam game you have to buy a Russian VPN and activate the game through that then there is no need to give him your credentials.

They only do that because steam requires you to activate games within the country they are purchased at.

What i did was create a new steam account and purchased it then changed my password when he was finished.

1579  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: What to do in case of an attack on Bitcoin? on: November 06, 2011, 07:39:07 AM
Is it possible to pull error messages/alerts from RPC or out side the Bitcoin network?
I'd like to have a website where people can go to check up on the alerts?

Poll the getinfo "errors" field. Alerts (and other problems) will be put there.

Thanks mate.  Smiley
