This is like one of those Broadway musicals that never seems to end.

Or the prairie-dweller joke: When your girl breaks up with you, its three days of walking before she's out of sight.

Yes I am aware of that. It doesn't matter. People are going to click on bitcoin links. The first post is fulled with great, positive information and nice graphics.

Here's a link the interactive google map: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=http://c1958612.r12.cf0.rackcdn.com/bitcoin.kml

1564  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Googlebomb: Bitcoin on the Road to Mainstream on: July 08, 2011, 12:02:28 AM
That's hilarious. You post a map and then proceed to kill its credibility by showing that you have no idea what it is, who made it, or whether its accurate! Go Bitcoin!

1565  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Googlebomb: Bitcoin on the Road to Mainstream on: July 08, 2011, 12:01:30 AM

The map is awesome.
Where did it come from and what is the date it was generated? Is it updated regularly? What do the colours mean?

This was done by MAGICALTUX in this thread:

http://forum.bitcoin.org/index.php?topic=2346.0

Just for fun I started gathering IPs reported by bitcoin clients and make a database of unique ips and test which ones are live, which ones are not.

Since there are ~1200 bitcoin connected to the irc channel I was assuming to find a similar value, but right now I'm still querying nodes and got over 6000 nodes (for now about 25% are accepting inbound connections).

Anyway since it's probably not telling you much, I transformed the ips in coordinates, and made a google kml file anyone can see in google maps (suggested by slush_cz)

UPDATE: Now the node color on google maps tells you if that node accept connections or not.

GREEN means the node has its firewall correctly configured and accept connections from other nodes
RED means we were unable to connect to the node (it is either down, or do not accept connections)
WHITE means the node is still in the queue, and will be checked soon

UPDATE 2: Now only nodes I heared about from other nodes within the last 3 hours are taken into account. The other nodes are excluded from the map and other stats (except versions)

1567  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin client should be renamed bitcoin wallet ? on: July 07, 2011, 11:10:35 PM
The general population will refer to the client as their bitcoin wallet anyway.

I just know it.
1568  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Googlebomb: Bitcoin on the Road to Mainstream on: July 07, 2011, 10:30:24 PM

In this case - I think the result is awful.

Your negative sentiment is one of the only "results" so far, that I'm aware of. I hope some positive, enthusiastic people visit this thread and click the article links in the original post.

Merchants can't adopt something they've never heard of, and won't accept a currency nobody has ever asked them about.
1569  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Googlebomb: Bitcoin on the Road to Mainstream on: July 07, 2011, 09:46:39 PM
first item looks very stupid

Do you have another suggestion?

The important thing is we search for the same phrase.

Its a controversial idea. The goal is to get hits.
1570  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Googlebomb: Bitcoin on the Road to Mainstream on: July 07, 2011, 09:34:33 PM
BITCOIN SCAM yields this link as 2nd hit:

http://virtuallyshocking.com/2011/05/22/why-bitcoin-is-smart-and-not-a-scam/

Good idea this will attract lots of hits.

Everyone add BITCOIN SCAM to your googlebomb searches.

Question: does searching from other computers on the same ISP increase keyword ranking?
1571  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Googlebomb: Bitcoin on the Road to Mainstream on: July 07, 2011, 09:30:39 PM
I'm joking.

The first hits i get for the two search terms are positive articles:

You're wrong. We need traffic as much as we need the marketplace.

Whats the first thing you need before you start a business? A market.
1574  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Googlebomb: Bitcoin on the Road to Mainstream on: July 07, 2011, 08:53:04 PM
why is it that a secret is so much more intriguing,
than someone trying to constantly shove shit in your face?

I'm going to put this in my sig.

Are suggesting that people will be annoyed if bitcoin is at the top of google search rank?

I imagine RAWDAWG will be........  Grin

And what does RAWDAWG do when gets annoyed?

He makes BITCOIN VIDEOS AND UPLOADS THEM ON YOUTUBE = WIN
1575  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Googlebomb: Bitcoin on the Road to Mainstream on: July 07, 2011, 08:39:56 PM
If we can get to the top of the keyword list for today, that would be mission accomplished!
1576  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Googlebomb: Bitcoin on the Road to Mainstream on: July 07, 2011, 08:19:25 PM
Alright lets try it. Even with our limited numbers we should still make some impact. We won't make #1 search term obviously.

Search terms are:
 1.  is bitcoin unstoppable
 2.  Bitcoin better than USD

If you see this thread, just go to google and search those phrases.

1578  Economy / Speculation / Re: Skeptical of the skeptics... on: July 07, 2011, 07:44:44 PM
Skeptics may view the Bitcoin concept as revolutionary as search engines or social media but the skeptics are likely to think of Bitcoin as an Altavista or Myspace and imagine there will be lots of competitors that come and go with eventual leaders becoming dominant like Google and Facebook.

Google, facebook, Myspace, are FREE services. People don't need to trust them. Using these services is like having a friend with benefits. Becoming a bitcoin user involves a little more commitment, a little more trust. In some cases, A LOT.

So I propose Bitcoin will not be abandoned as readily as you suggest. Bitcoin isn't a fickle adventure like some long-forgotten internet upstarts. Bitcoin's properties never change.
