Just wanted to express again how happy I am with the monumental effort everyone involved here has put in to making NastyFans as great as it is. I'm happy to be part of a mining operation that's shown commitment to integrity and transparency. With the recent situation in Greece, a colleague of mine took an interest in bitcoin, and I was happy to get him started. I then told him about NastyFans and he's purchased several seats because he sees the value of NastyFans and the benefits of being a part of this group. I'm happy to see the recent uptick in price too, I think this is a result of the management and the active role the fans play as well here. The three year anniversary was a big milestone, there's been a lot of groups that have had huge initial interest only to become a scam or something that didn't weather the changing world of crypto currency. Yet here we are today a part of something bigger, and well...I just wanted to say thanks everyone, and it's great to bring others into the fold on something as great as we have here.
Thank you very much for the kind words. I am also very happy to be a part of such a great organization.
Have you guys considered doing a group buy + hosting of mining hardware?
Not only will we get somewhat cheaper hardware, but we will get significantly cheaper hosting rates if we colocate them all together for a long fixed term (I know a hosting provider with large volume discounts). Could be worth looking into, if you want me to run some numbers.
I'd be super interested in pitching in myself for some hardware this way, because most small customers pay a premium for being small! I think this could be a valuable service for the mining community.
I've considered it. I know the toomim brothers have a nice operation. If there are fans interested in helping to foot the bill for something like this, I am sure I would be able to find those willing to donate equipment. NastyMining hasn't pursued this because I pay all of the electricity costs personally, so I cannot afford to pay for hosting all of the equipment that people have been willing to donate as a long term plan. A few years ago we were involved with a couple group buys with hosting. Most of them turned out to be scams, and the ones that weren't made very little profit. I think the preference for me personally would be for fans to step up and host a unit on behalf of NastyFans, but I realize that isn't a realistic expectation. There is an interesting USB miner project by sidehack that will produce a very energy efficient USB miner that fans may be more willing to host. The hashrate is pretty low, but perhaps giving away a few of these sticks might be a way to encourage more fan mining participation as a way to continue growing the distributions.
