I'm also thinking about integrating a wallet on my site.

and i think installing bitcoind to mange the wallets is very scary. I'm thinking the safest way to go is to use what they call a "watch only" wallet. which is exactly what you described above.

deposits can be handled automatically, bitcoinmonitor.net can send a POST request to your php script every-time someone sends some coins to one of the addresses your watching. (not sure is blockchain.info can do this too)

withdraws are done manually within 24hour.

I think users will not mind the the long wait for withdraws, because they know their coins are safe in cold storage, and users are less likely to use the site as a ewallet, which is not what its meant for.

running bitcoind on a server manged by a third party is a HUGE security risk.
15703  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [Announce] bitcoinmonitor.net - professional notification service (Free!) on: December 15, 2012, 04:05:20 AM
Friendly note: PHP's support for grabbing the raw POST data is spotty - I solved it with:
Quote
file_get_contents('php://input')

You can manipulate the object however you'd like from there.

Thank you so much for this!!!

From that code i did this just for testing.
Quote
<?php
ob_start();
print_r(file_get_contents('php://input')); // This is where you have the object: file_get_contents('php://input')
$string = ob_get_contents();
ob_end_clean();
$fp = fopen('data.txt', 'w');
fwrite($fp,$string );
fclose($fp);
?>

This will save the JSON into data.txt

thank you, i will give this a try soon.

15708  Economy / Speculation / Re: Most likely source of the major dumps? on: December 14, 2012, 08:25:51 PM
Surely the news that mtgox's Jed and prosper.com founder Chris's joint venture to develop a "better" alternative coin has nothing to do with the dump, for sure.

link?

how to turn 1BTC into 1.1BTC

1)Sell
2)Place a bid 11% lower then where you sold.
3)Pray

no thanks...

Someone must really hate their bitcoins.

What if it's a bot. Logic:

1. buy up bitcoins over time, with assumption the price is going up.
2. while buying coins, gauge exposure to risk vs. potential profits of selling. Set a sell threshold based on past price / magic (depends on the bot I guess), trying to optimize the profits from selling and preventing getting caught out by a dip in the price. As the profit collected increases, the downswing required to trigger a sell will probably become smaller and smaller.
3. trigger sell, cash in profits, set aside what you made, start re-investing your base.

buy & hold is easier and probably more profitable

not for someone looking to play with 1 million dollars plus

The 13.80 wall is back and fully fortified for whenever the price gets back there. This is tiresome.

not sure why we aren't letting them win?

no one wants cheep coins?

Who's "we"?

the bulls

the bears appear to let the price rise, and then take big dumps, and repeat

why don't the bulls let the price fall and then Buy big, and repeat
