people miss trades from time to time, it's part of the game.  but one thing i wouldn't do again is be close minded like i was back in the day when BTC was trading under a dollar.
15783  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why is ripple going to the moon ? on: December 18, 2014, 02:03:22 AM
ripple is centralized crap, dont fall for that nonsense. Nxt and btc are cheap right now

Bitcoin is always cheap :/. Bitcoin was cheap at 700, cheap at 600, cheap at 500, and so forth. All them Bitcoins were bought 'cheap' from the 'weak hands'. I can still remember guys patting each other on the back, shouting out: 'I'll take those coins from you!'. I notice that the sheer triumphalism has declined though, although the average Bitcoin cultist is still miles away from getting back to reality.

Just wake up: the average Bitcoiner on these boards was NEVER in it for the (limited) applications of Bitcoin. It was all about the money for the them, and now Bitcoin is falling they are leaving the sinking ship. Crypto anarchist ideas are, like any anarchist ideas, based on ideological nonsense. Governments will never, ever, allow for this perfect opportunity for money laundering, selling drugs or fraud. Nor will they allow people to avoid taxes on a grand scale. Whenever Bitcoin reaches to the occassion again like in previous December, which it won't, it will get killed by governments with one click on the button. I expect some kind of defense in the sense of 'but, but , Bitcoin is decentralized!', which is of course oblivious to the major role that the central exchanges play in this entire game. Take out the exchanges, and it is game over in terms of price.

Bitcoin will never succeed because of its anonymity and your ideological resistance against anything that smells centralized is simply in vain. Ripple will likely succeed because of its centralized character, as that gives the opportunity for compliance, centralized development and drawing up contracts with other entities. Bitcoin on the other hand is chaos in the absence of a ruler. That is why it is doomed to die and why you should wake up and smell the coffee.

If you want simple centralized payment - just use PayPal . Or dwolla ( I bet you forgot about them )  please don't use ripple

it really depends how and what you plan to do in ripple tho.  this is one good example of ripple's use cases:  http://weboftrust.net

it's a LETS type system using thr ripple network.  it's pretty cool.
15784  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why is ripple going to the moon ? on: December 17, 2014, 01:25:35 PM
Smart money doesn't start to buy when there's media attention. That's the whole point.

Where's the media attention?
There's none. Not yet.

from what i've seen in the stock market, when news comes out, everyone starts selling and then that's it..  a pump and dump.

but at other times, when news comes out and a stock continues going up, nothing's gonna stop it from rising and the rise usually stops and idles at high prices.  it's real value.

hope it is the latter for XRP.
15785  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why is Ripple price going mad right now? on: December 17, 2014, 01:12:41 PM
Holy shit, the 1000 free XRP I got 2 years ago (and everyone else who wanted) are now worth 23$. Time to sell Tongue I wonder how I get BTC out from rippletrade.com? It doesn't seem so obvious.

Bitcoin Bridge lets Ripple users make payments to Bitcoin accounts

https://ripple.com/bitcoin-bridge-lets-ripple-users-make-payments-to-bitcoin-accounts/

You can use the bridge to send bitcoin to any address from your ripple wallet. The bitcoins you hold in your ripple wallet are IOUs and the bridge owner sends real bitcoins on your behalf.

Okey but where exactly is the bitcoin bridge? I don't see anything in rippletrade.com. The linked article is outdated and https://ripple.com/client/ is no longer available.

you can't 'see' it but it's there. just send your funds to your BTC wallet and ripple sends your BTC via snapswap gateway.

15789  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: WHAT ALTCOIN EXCHANGE IS BEST TO USE? on: December 17, 2014, 03:55:30 AM
Everyone has an exchange that they feel is best for them. There are a few big players like bittrex and cryptsy, but there are others that are very good exchanges also.

I am interested in knowing which exchange everyone thinks is the best one to use. Whether its a big player like Bittrex or maybe one that may be overlooked.

As long as it is a legitimate exchange that is not fly by night. Please don't use this to promote scam exchanges. I created this topic to try to help people find exchanges that are here for the long run.

Please include why you like the exchange you list here. Things like how old the exchange is, how active and professional. things like that.

I will keep updating and listing the results as we go.

always go for the most volume of the coin you're planning to trade:  http://www.cryptocoincharts.info/markets/info

While the overhang of the Ripple Labs horde of XRP is very disconcerting, as is the falling out with Jed M, you can't deny that ripple seems to have a lot of development money and effort behind it.  They are clearly the most professional outfit in alt coins these days.

yup.  it's also worth mentioning that the stellar and bitshares teams are among the most professional too.
15791  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why is Ripple price going mad right now? on: December 16, 2014, 01:53:58 PM
Just some of the VC's that are invested in Ripple.  They obviously love Ripple enough to invest in it, so I don't get why some people are not giving it a chance.

15792  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: which coins would you consider useful to the bitcoin world APPCOINS vs ALTCOINS on: December 15, 2014, 01:55:53 AM
imo, it takes more than "being the best" for a project to be as successful as bitcoin.  we see awesme projects all around like nxt, ripple, bitshares, nem, stellar, halo., etc.. etc.  but to bring them forward you need a good team of people, business people, who know what they're doing.

imo, ripple, stellar, bitshares could succeed not because they are the best project, but because they have the backing of people or companies with deep pockets and they could provide assistance and the know-how on the business side as well.

let's also wait for ethereum to come out.
15793  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Withdrawal Concerns at Poloniex on: December 12, 2014, 03:28:29 PM
I like polo more.

1. lower trading fee compared to bittrex
2. trollbox and good community
3. you can find admin in the trollbox if you need support.
4. I made money from polo coins(cinni, monero, storj), but lost huge money from bittrex coins.(voot, via) Wink
5. website loading&trading speed is much faster than bittrex.
6. less scam coins in top trading coins(XRP, STORJ, XMR, CLAM are legit and great coins), but you may buy shit/scam in bittrex top trading coins.

HAHA! same. lost some btc in VIA, made some in STORJ.

also would like to say i got some BTC out, and all is fine.  they do have some issues with STR tho, but i think it's because stellar doesn't allow anyone else but the stellar foundation itself to run a stellard due to some problems encountered a couple of weeks ago.  i wonder if other exchanges are going thru the same thing.
15794  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [VIA] ★ Viacoin ★ ~ the future of digital currency ~ ★ on: December 12, 2014, 11:43:00 AM
http://blog.viacoin.org/2014/11/13/petertodd-dev-update.html

How is treechains going? No news in a month

Half your posts here are always "wheres news?" "whats news?" "any updates??". How much via do you have? You keep assuming every bit of news is somehow going to pump the coin or something. Have you not noticed the stale altcoin market situation?

Seriously, instead of getting caught up in Viacoin just go play the other alts out there. The past few weeks alone there have been a lot of profitable alts even in this crappy market. Stop limiting yourself to one coin and then begging for news/pump.

I am not begging, I am a Viafan, I have my rights to know the development situation Cry

yup. throw us a bone.  we also love the tech and what peter todd could come up with.  honestly, i think if peter todd leaves via, that will be it.
15795  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ripple shot up.. why? on: December 12, 2014, 08:16:37 AM
Profited a ton from this:)

STR kinda going up too.. piggy backing on XRP's uptrend.
15796  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Withdrawal Concerns at Poloniex on: December 12, 2014, 03:08:52 AM
Apparently some BTC deposits have gone missing at Poloniex as they are doing a wallet rescan.
15797  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Investopedia: 5 Most Important Virtual Currencies Other Than Bitcoin on: December 12, 2014, 02:17:57 AM
maybe 6months ago

I think that 2.0 coins will explode in '15. Coins like ripple, storj, gems

i don't doubt that.  but some among the 1.0 coins will be going up as well.  maybe the ones with the higher hashrates will be the ones shooting up...?

anyone know a site where we can see the top hashrates of mineable coins listed from top to bottom?  couldn't find one at google...
15798  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Investopedia: 5 Most Important Virtual Currencies Other Than Bitcoin on: December 12, 2014, 01:02:19 AM
hmmmm..  i guess when it all starts going mainstream those are the first ones to shoot up in the crypto gold rush?
15799  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Withdrawal Concerns at Poloniex on: December 11, 2014, 04:49:26 AM
Just a heads up.  Tried withdrawing BTC from Poloniex 2 days, then hours ago but can't.  Sent a support ticket and all replies are that they are 'fixing the problem', but the problem keeps coming back and people can't withdraw.

Poloniex users, please be on the look out.  Non-users, stay away for now until the problem is 100% fixed.

I wish i never made a BTC deposit and did more research about Poloniex.  I wasn't aware that it was hacked last March 2014:  http://www.coindesk.com/poloniex-loses-12-3-bitcoins-latest-bitcoin-exchange-hack/

Quote

Poloniex Loses 12.3% of its Bitcoins in Latest Bitcoin Exchange Hack

Digital currency exchange Poloniex, which trades bitcoin and other popular digital currencies such as litecoin, namecoin and dogecoin, has lost 12.3% of its total bitcoin supply in an attack.

The exchange took to Bitcoin Forum on 4th March to report it had been compromised by a previously unknown vulnerability in its coding.

Writing under the username Busoni, Poloniex owner Tristan D'Agosta, moved to calm concerned users by explaining what lead to the hack, as well as what the next steps from the company would be.

Due to its current bitcoin shortage, Poloniex indicated that all customer balances would temporarily be reduced by 12.3% "out of absolute necessity". D'Agosta suggested that this was the only way that bitcoins could be distributed fairly among affected users.
