161  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Margin price estimation of USB Block Erupter on: June 26, 2013, 11:00:31 AM
So maybe $4 for all components, excluding the bitcoin ASIC? That puts the total margin price at $10 per stick.

id probably say about $15 total to include manufacturing and all the background stuff maybe testing to but yeh Avalon are really screwing people over for these but does that really surprise anyone the company with the least amount of resorses managed to pull the rabbit out of the hat and are quite welcome to make as much profit as they can out of it

and there still the only really player in the market thanks to all these idiots that have let the projects die or tried to over design things like BFL

Avalons strategy of going with more chips for the price of power worked they required far less design and where much much easier to get made.... they also went with china to make the things which in my books on getting the things to market will beat anything made in the EU or USA by months

ill give it to the chine's when it comes to building and getting it done fast there the ones to go with

These block erupters are from ASICMINER not Avalon btw.

Add a cute 40mm silent fan; http://www.quietpc.com/nf-a4x10

and dont forget the power there already on the very edge of usb 2 capability to get more power they would have to go usb 3 or even external power sources...

Those are 0.6w at 12v (50ma!), they'll draw even less at 5v (USB spec is 5v*500ma=2.5w); you could run at least 10 off a standard USB socket!
162  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: PiMiner - DIY mining controller/monitor with Raspberry Pi on: June 26, 2013, 10:41:41 AM
can't quite tell but have you put a heatsink on the CPU?

Yeah runs at 64.8 even with that! 975 core/475 cache/500 ram at 1.35v.

Gonna reformat it soon and make it into a lil VPN/fileserver and send it off for free colocation, running it as a miner is a bit pointless at 0.48khash/s. Stock speed is normally 0.33khash/s!
163  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: PiMiner - DIY mining controller/monitor with Raspberry Pi on: June 26, 2013, 10:04:27 AM
Cool project. Wish I could afford to waste money on block erupters, here's my piminer running scrypt, only several orders of magnitude slower.
164  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Is Avalon mining with customer hardware? Answer is here. on: June 25, 2013, 11:24:35 PM
lol

Come join the future of crypto's and leave the greed to the elitist that have taken over this community.

The founder keeps referring to miners at hatchers and I can't take a currency named EMU seriously, what a joke!
165  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: *New PCI-E Based ASIC miners 1.2th/s - 1.9th's +\- 10%* on: June 25, 2013, 11:08:56 PM
The numbers doesn't quiet add up to me, I'm tired so excuse me if it's off and using rough math.

1 Avalon Chip does about 280 MH/s and uses about 1.9W.

To have a board do between 1.2TH/s and 1.9TH/s, you'd need between 4000 and 4500 Chips.

With that many chips required per board;
You not bought enough to do about 2 boards (you stated buying 10,000 Chips).
Which apparently each one would need in the region of 8000 Watts
This is you ignore the fact your suggesting you can fit that many chips on a board (or even a multi-layer boards), designed for a PCI-E slot.

So simply put, your numbers don't make sense.

If you sent money to this scam, you're a fool who deserved to be parted with it.

If you can't do the basic math shown above; then gtfo of bitcoin before you bankrupt yourself...

It's a completely different service - sounds like it's for sharing things.

And for them to mine user data...
167  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Litecoin - a lite version of Bitcoin. Launched! on: June 25, 2013, 06:43:44 PM
This is getting annoying now, just went to reboot into bootcamp and found this...

Seems like they're sneakily popping under constantly!

168  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: If you had 40GH to mine alt coins... How would you mine them? on: June 25, 2013, 03:12:12 PM
Or just 51% them all.
169  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Block Erupter USB - Overclocking/ hacking ? on: June 25, 2013, 12:49:26 PM
I'll try to get both sets of measurements.

I was wondering if any of the test points at the end of the unit could be used to supply power.  I have seen a picture with a connector fitted there.  I will see if there is 5V on any of them.

I also found this:
http://www.asicminer.co/about.html
Stating that they can be run at a higher speeds with a 0.1V increase.

Bob

You'll definately need some better heatsinking btw. Definately look into getting something like these for both sides of the device, ASIC and VRM. Might need to cut them up on the component side though.
 http://dx.com/p/aluminum-cooler-heat-sink-chipset-for-ram-memory-w-type-8-piece-set-35816

If they overclock enough I might buy some if ROI looks likely, was planning on mounting them on an old CPU cooler!
170  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Block Erupter USB - Overclocking/ hacking ? on: June 25, 2013, 11:54:35 AM
The resistance offered by the multimeter is usually 1 or 10megaohm so it shouldn't disrupt the circuit at all. Just yeah try not to touch the wrong thing/slip whilst measuring! If you did both measurements you could check the voltage sag compared to what it has been set to with the resistor values.

Also need to work out how the clocking works/clock multiplication ratio. It is probably  be the 11.0592MHz( x 30 ) going into "IC3" which I can't seem to find a datasheet for. 12mhz is normally used for USB but is connected to the ASIC directly...

And yeah that's what I meant on the hub, just be careful as there should be decoupling capacitors in there that would complicate things; make sure you're only reinforcing existing connections and not making new ones!
171  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: My BFL Singles are now in "Production" on: June 25, 2013, 10:42:20 AM
Do not sell. Lots of fun in mining.

Ohh look at my whirring black box, fun!
172  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: DIY water block to suit Klondike K16 and Burnins 20 (Bitburner?) on: June 25, 2013, 09:58:38 AM
Yep, mixing aluminium and copper in the same loop is a no no with plain water, the de-electric effect will turn it into a battery and ruin the blocks and radiators. Most radiators are made of copper, they're much thinner too!

As for getting more surface area but mostly much more turbulence you could use some of this rolled up and put down the tubes, aluminium mesh.

173  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: I can't help but wonder... on: June 25, 2013, 09:32:44 AM
Now for some scrypt FPGAs, then ASICs Smiley

Then GPUs will be dead, so long as nobody makes a coin with a new algo.

You forget GPUs still have a place of significance in most pcs for like graphics and stuff...Grin

Yes they'll always have some value outside of *Coin land, just not as much Tongue

Right, and people like me will no longer want 19 power sucking GPUs, so we'll offload them on Ebay and cut into future AMD sales.  Smiley

That's if someone is daft enough to buy your tortured to within an inch of their lives' GPUs, hope someone buys mine...

And Amazon must be wondering why the Anker 10-port USB hub is "frequently bought together" with a 92mm portable fan. Smiley

Nah they're happy they just use the data to suggest fans to everybody else. "100s of people also bought this: Usb Fan 1, USB Fan 2, 10a 5v mains adapter."
174  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Block Erupter USB - Overclocking/ hacking ? on: June 25, 2013, 09:07:15 AM
That 11(ish) one is connected directly to the USB interface chip so that one is far less likely to be the base for the clock speed. As for that power supply, looks to be this:
http://www.aosmd.com/pdfs/datasheet/AOZ1021AI.pdf

That part is rated at 3a output, the USB spec says a max of 2.5watts so as long as the chip is supplied at >1v there should be a bit of headroom left, especially once you take into consideration that some of the power draw is the buck conversion inefficiencies not the ASIC itself. Would definitely require a re-wired/modded USB hub though.

To work out the exact Vout to the ASIC either measure voltage out across pin 3 and the 'far' side of R1 whilst running (riskier), or measure the resistance values of R1+R2 whilst off and check against that datasheet. (pinouts and supporting circuitry p12/13, voltage programming table p7)
175  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Question about ATX PSU on: June 25, 2013, 08:07:56 AM
The 4 pin molex spec says 11 amps per pin. This is 132 watts from a single 12v wire. You could pull 375 watts from a 6 pin pci-e and still be in spec for the wires if they are the same gauge (they should). Knowing me, I would do #4, so long as they are all from the same power supply.

Per pin is different from per WIRE. That's just what the connector itself can supposedly handle!
176  Other / Archival / Re: Pictures of your mining rigs! on: June 25, 2013, 08:05:02 AM
hey guys seen a lot of nice rigs in this thread, some in crates some in open case frames. My question is what are you guys putting under the MOBO, are you guys just laying it on the plastic or metal?

either is bad...metal will short out mobo and plastic/cardboard can start on fire because if your running a mobo with 4 vid cards the mobo is supplying alot of juice unless you have powered raisers...i suggest using metal standoffs that are in your case...then nothing is touching the mobo and gets some air on the bottom Smiley but make sure you use all holes for the standoffs...2 or more vid cards weigh alot and don't want to sag your mobo
Is this what most ppl are using?

177  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Powered PCIE risers with capacitors on: June 25, 2013, 07:59:36 AM
Hello,

I currently use powered risers with capacitors for my mining rigs, but now I heard that those risers are a fire hazard. Is this true? If yes - how can I remove them? I didn't care about capacitors, I just bought powered risers and recognized later, that they were a little different.

I would be glad if someone can help me.

You just need to desolder the capacitor and replace with wire.
178  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: VirtualCL / 2x Quad HD 7990 on: June 24, 2013, 07:01:59 PM
Looks like water cooling is the way to go. Expecting the cards and chassis to come in somewhere next week. Got a very detailed e-mail from EK with their products which also mention the full cover 7990's so will look into that and puzzle it together so the cards, chassis and hopefully the water cooling products arrive at the same time.

Also did put in a secondary PSU to make sure I do not run into power issues when the four 7990's are running at max speed.

Regarding the liquids to use, i see they have copper and nickel plates, any advice there what to use in combination with what liquid?

Distilled water all the way, some people add small amounts of 'wetter' which reduces the surface tension of the water. Not sure as to the benefits of nickel plating but mixing metals isn't the best idea when it's alu/copper cause you essentially turn the loop into a battery! Not sure what the consensus is on mixing nickel/copper (pretty much all radiators are copper). Secondary PSU is a very good idea too!
179  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Active avalon cooling - anyone got a cooler avalon than mine? on: June 24, 2013, 06:23:24 PM
you spend 600 watt just to cool it down? thats stupid.

buy some server fans and run them at 5600 RPM and you will get the same temperatures with just 30 watt extra.

Which Fan?

Nah you want some 7160RPM 38mm's like these Tongue
180  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Block Erupter USB - Overclocking/ hacking ? on: June 24, 2013, 06:19:40 PM
Looks like someone has blanked out the power mosfet though, gonna have a search for third party images...
