161  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Shift the decimal point over? on: January 12, 2014, 03:11:47 PM

I think moving the decimal place to the right makes sense, rather than

live with the confusion of calling it mBTC

Just call them bitcoins(the old bitcoin is then the old bitcoin, which is then 1000 bitcoins after moving the decimal place 3 places to the right)

After the proposed changes,

1 old bitcoin = 1000 new bitcoins

I agree that people are more likely to buy a $1 bitcoin rather than a $1000 bitcoin

Bitcoin is losing market share because of delaying moving the decimal place to the right.
One reason why bitcoin is losing market share, is because people are more inclined to go and
buy alt coins because of the perceived high price of bitcoin at $1000

Move the decimal 3 places to the right, and regain alot of market share, is what I think(people will come back to bitcoin, and drop alt coins, when they see they can buy bitcoins at $1 with also having speculative chances of increase from there)

How are you going to mark the coins so you know which BTC is old or new?

I'm not proposing that ALL the decimal points should be removed!  I'm proposing that the decimal point shifts to the right by 3 decimal places.  In other words, if the current Bitcoin =100,000,000 satoshis, the new Bitcoin =100,000 satoshis.

I'm not proposing that there should be more Satoshis printed.  The supply of money would stay exactly the same!

Those who have 10 BTC will now have 10,000BTC -- nobody wants to dilute your precious Bitcoins.

You can't. Their is already  over 12 million Bitcoins that have been mined. Move the decimal 3 places and you have a total BTC of 12 Billion. You can't change the rules in the middle of the game. Only 21 million can be mined period. That's why it has to be called a mBTC.   Roll Eyes

If someone doesn't understand how to use the basic metric system they need to go back to the 1st grade and learn it. Better they don't use BTC at all! They surely will get robbed blind. Cheesy

Nobody is proposing a substitution to the metric system. What's being proposed is to simplify the usage of the metric system. Simplification is also tought at school, I think you missed the class.

It would have been a great idea. Except for the fact that the 21 million limit would have to change by the same amount of decimal places. It isn't going to happen. You can't willy nilly Bitcoin like the US dollar has been.

And for all the anxious to get rich crowd. If Bitcoin does what it did last year it will be worth $52,0000 thousand each by 2015.

Bitcoin can still be split into 1000,000,000,000,000 units i totally see where OP is coming from, about removing all the decimal places.

Unless you fully Re-denominate. You have to identify how many decimal places have been removed. Either the metric system or the powers of 10 system. You can't reinvent the wheel with some system that doesn't actually exist.

If I were going to buy pizza or beer  I would probably use Bitcoin before ounces of gold.  I  would use Dollars first.  That's why fiat like the US Dollar are here to stay.  They are kept at a relatively stable price by the Federal Reserve.
165  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Shift the decimal point over? on: January 12, 2014, 01:00:17 AM
When you call it mBTC or uBTC  you already are moving the decimal place! You are just marking it as such, so you won't forget that the decimal has been moved.

If someone doesn't understand how to use the basic metric system they need to go back to the 1st grade and learn it. Better they don't use BTC at all! They surely will get robbed blind. Cheesy

166  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Shift the decimal point over? on: January 11, 2014, 04:57:56 PM
The flaw. If you move the decimal place 3 places. The maximum amount of Bitcoins created would then increase to 21 billion coins instead of the 21 million.

So changing the client to mBTC and then later uBTC  makes more sense.

Bitcoin In India Under attack :- global community please help

After  the RBI (our central bank released the press release )http://www.rbi.org.in/scripts/BS_PressReleaseDisplay.aspx?prid=30247

They has started raiding the  only manual exchanges in the country.  http://www.dnaindia.com/india/report-first-time-in-the-country-ed-raids-a-bitcoin-seller-in-ahmedabad-1941187
And looks like  they want to go after the  users  too.

i have  setup a  IRC channel for every one to get together  and  find a solution to this. would like it if the international community would help this  small group https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=386916.msg4163880#msg4163880

The article doesn't say anything new. Just states Bitcoin  and other crypto's aren't backed by any Central banks. Which is exactly one of the good things about it.  Don't worry about it.
169  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Coinbase - do you keep any coins on there? on: December 27, 2013, 07:34:42 AM
Do you keep any bitcoin in your coinbase wallet? I've always sent everything to my local offline wallet, but it is at those times where you need some bitcoin right away and wish you had the access instantly. I was just wondering.

Also, is that Google Authenticator two-factor for just mobile devices? Does it actually give you two-factor on your computer?

I've left coins up on Coinbase with no problem. I can buy coins instantly at the lowest price and zip them away within minutes.

If you've just got out of prison for fraud and have 3 judgments against you. Coinbase might not trust you as much as me.

Coinbase was the first I was aware of with two factor Identification. They send a text message to your cell phone with the code. You then enter the code on the Coinbase site.

I'm sure Coinbase will piss me off some day but for now they are the only good place.

I was wondering if anyone had issues keeping their coin stored there since they really aren't a wallet. My account is level 2. I'm able to buy 10 bitcoin instant daily if needed and have all the access I need, but just a little weary about holding coin "online". In the meantime I have moved them to my local more secure wallet. I've been accumulating coins, and when they started to reach $8k-$9k, I just didn't feel good having them online. All I need is to wake up one day and get a notice from Coinbase that they've been hacked and lost all coins.

I wouldn't keep my coins on any online wallet. I used to keep half my coins on Coinbase before I started using Armory. Coinbase is better than any of the other online wallets as far as I'm concerned. Most of Coinbase's coins are kept in cold storage. And they have excellent record keeping so you can tell exactly how much you spent on all transactions.
170  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Blockchain.info has a big announcement, what would it be ? on: December 27, 2013, 02:26:15 AM
What fees?

To get your fiat up there you have to use third party. Costs 5-7%. You take your Bitcoin out and you are charged a fee. You buy bitcoins and they give you a ball park figure not a quote. It always went against me even if BTC prices fell.

Blockchain doesn't have an exchange

Didn't say it did. I was putting Dollars up there and converting to BTC. The wallet also was leaking tenths of a bitcoins every so often so I moved the BTC  off their site to my private client. Never looked back. They never lifted a finger to correct the problems.

I had an account partially set up with Coinbase but all these geniuses told me how great Blockchain info and Bitfloor were. Coinbase is flawless compared to them.

What are you talking about? How was you putting dollars on to Blockchain.info and how was they leaking coins?

I used Zipzap to pay Blockchaininfo. to convertt to BTC.

Probably a back door to the wallet somehow. I don't know how the hell it was done and I don't care. All I know is the balance would be lower by a fraction of a bitcoin every so often.

172  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Alternative Block Chains : be safe! on: December 25, 2013, 11:28:01 PM
in the last month alone i have seen two new altcoins posted with a trojan / keylogger
a well known coin by a well known coin spammer and coin cloner for hire also added one to his last wallet version..
so yeah they are out in force !

the guy mentioned earlier how easy it would be and he's right..

a lot of thee guy don't even make the coins.. and often they get premined as they are delivered

the more you dig the more you find.. there is no limit to the scummy greedy behavior in this scene

i today found yet another fake malware bundle uploaded to torrent sites..
some guy has been at it hard.. i have flagged about 6 uploads he has done (all Bitcoin related or Altcoin related) last few months

and miners are commonly flagged as malware by AV software and rightfully so because the code may be clean but its bundled with malware
and has been for years.. the two most popular things for malware coders these days is to infect you to jack your machine for mining or just steal wallets
or even to get Facebook likes.

so yeah i could go on and on forever citing examples but who cares ?

maybe rather than posting stupid little stickied warnings the admins here could expose the little pricks doing it..
after all they should be able to see they are being posted from the same ip's (many of these guys prob have a 100 accounts here)
all they do is lock and delete the topic.. and let the douches keep doing it

I wish you'd be more specific about which clients have malware or trojans on them. Like for example off this site which ones if any?

Judging from the posts on this site I would only consider Coins-E and Virurex. The other sites are having to much technical difficulty, incompetence or worse.
177  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Best Crypto trading exchanges? on: December 25, 2013, 04:28:02 PM
So I guess it's like rolling the dice with any of them?  Roll Eyes

I guess only have  small amounts on any of the foreign exchanges at one time. Or they will steal you blind like the filthy whore crooks that they are.    Cheesy

I never pay the high fees of Blockchain Info. You also always pay more for the coins than what you expect. They simply suck in every way. I can't believe they are still in business.   Cheesy
