161  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: how do platforms calculate the price of a new token on: October 08, 2017, 01:13:54 PM
when a new token is introduced in the platforms, how do they calculate the opening price?

Well amount of outstanding tokens/coins is a startpoint and than they calculate what they need in $ in terms of investment of the technology/marketing/salaries etc. Total amount of money needed / total coins= ICO price.
I don't like that idea because on the stock market you value the company based on for example net profits of the last couple of years / forecast / intellectual proprerty and than based on that value you have an IPO price. Some ICO's tend to overprice their coin/token and that's why you see for a lot of ICO's that the price will drop after an ICO due to people valuating the company much lower because of failed to meet the requirements (= no product, bad marketing etc.)
162  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Low risk altcoins? on: October 05, 2017, 09:12:09 AM
If you hold for 1 year all altcoins that have active developers would be stable, unstability happens in day to day trade and something month to month. But in the long term (1 year) every altcoins seems to be in a good steady growth.

1 altcoin that has been steady for me is XRP. In a year it has increased but month to month is seems to be relatively stable.
163  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: DIMEcoin on: October 04, 2017, 04:02:34 PM
I have a question! I have $25,000 USD to invest in DIMECOIN in Cryptopia I think.

My question is if I invest this money and we will imagine the price up to 0.0000010 BTC. If I want to sell it all, cryptopia let me do that?
Because I think it is more than 5 billion of unities, I dont know if the exchange handle or complicated to big quantity of unities.

You can sell whatever you want, but if there are no people buying it, well than you sell nothing. If you have a huge amount of coins you can better spread your sale orders, else you would become the whale that let's the price go down again.
164  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Alerted when tokens are released on market on: October 03, 2017, 08:45:01 PM
Hi, is there any way to get alerted when certain tokens gets released on the market after an ico?

I have never tried, but you could monitor https://coinmarketcap.com. If you click on a coin, you will see the markets where it is traded. I don't know if they update the list on a daily base, though.
Please read carefully OP is asking for Tokens not about coins many companies issuing tokens in ICO's so I don't think https://coinmarketcap.com is also posting about these tokens because they are related to Altcoins not tokens of different companies

See above don't get that part of your sentence, but coinmarketcap has coins and tokens: https://coinmarketcap.com/tokens/views/all/. Or do you mean a different kind of tokens i don't know of  Shocked

When a coin get's on an exchange it's not updated on coinmarketcap at the same time, so coinmarketcap can be good to see the exchanges where a coin is traded. But not to know the exact time a new coin is listed on an exchange.
166  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Will centralized exchanges meet a demise like Mt. Gox? on: October 03, 2017, 08:16:34 PM
When bitcoin was forking into bitcoin cash the market went into insanity. The price of bitcoin nearly doubled in under a month and with this, bitcoin was taken as a huge threat. The SEC started investigating many centralized exchanges - most notably Bittrex. It seems so far that everything is running smoothly but I feel that this is a subtle foreshadowing of what might come. There is a residual feeling of uncertainty just reading Bittrex's report on the SEC investigation - a quote from the Bittrex report article says "We applaud the SEC in issuing its Digital Asset Investigative Report." Something is wrong here, why is a cryptocurrency exchange rejoicing in it's possible demise?

You can better be friends with your regulator than not. If the SEC wanted to investigate bitrex and close it down that would be worser than kissing their ... From what i can read from the article they applaud the SEC for the regulations around ICO's. T.b.h. it is a good safeguard for consumers to not fall in scam ICO's by somewhat regulating that side of the business. On the other hand regulators will never fully regulate the whole blockchain, so ICO's will pop from everywhere.
167  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: india may launch its own cryptocurrency - "lakshmi" on: October 03, 2017, 08:07:39 PM
It looks like quite a few countries and banks are planning to launch their own cryptocurrencies. It is indeed a very interesting development.
However, it is very difficult now to say how will all these "official" government or bank issued cryptocurrecies influence Bitcoin and the whole crypto ecosystem. It can both boost it and push it down.

Countries and banks just try to get in on the profit. If they see what bitcoin did in a couple of years, you can't blame them for trying to get a piece of the cake. However like with fiat money it's so stupid that if you go abroad you need to exchange your money for foreign currency. What bitcoin can do is making 1 universal coin for all countries. Hope this new trend is soon to be taken down and bitcoin will rise as the sole contender.
168  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Zirra Launches CryptoRated, an ICO Review and Analysis Platform on: October 03, 2017, 08:02:52 PM
Thank you! We're happy to hear that. Please feel free to add anything you want, we're taking every input into consideration.

Please know that companies value our reviews and criticism - if a company is serious enough about their product and ICO, and we rated them not as high as they think they should be rated, they can sit down with us and we will lay everything out in the open. Usually, if it's a scam or looks like a scam, we point it out. Moreover, we have distinct options to choose from in our scorecard, where the score '1' and sometimes '2' represents what might be a scam.

Thanks for the clarification, hope the best for you
169  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Finally Wi-Fi App on Blockchain Network to Be Launch 🎊 ............ on: October 03, 2017, 07:49:48 PM
Please elaborate me on that idea. What can a Wi-FI app do on the blockchain. give you a list of free hotspots?
170  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Zirra Launches CryptoRated, an ICO Review and Analysis Platform on: October 02, 2017, 07:51:16 PM
your score chart looks good, however how can you determine this one: Is it safe from legal, moral or investor abuse?

Imho you can never know an ICO is safe or not from investor abuse. The rest of the questions/scores look good.

172  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XRP] Ripple Speculation on: October 01, 2017, 06:59:02 PM
Swift is working on their own blockchain tech, called Hyperledger. They already have major banks like Wells Fargo and BNP onboard with their proof of concept.
https://www.coindesk.com/swift-selects-hyperledger-tech-cross-border-blockchain-test/
Swift intends to develop their own blockchain tech, then use Chainlink decentralized oracles to provide input to the smart contracts. These are not hypothetical, they have been in the works for years. You are right that Swift and Ripple dislike each other, and are going at each other's throats. However, Chainlink tech does not begin nor end with Swift and the finance industry - they are about linking smart contracts with traditional data sources in general, no matter what industry.
No one knows who will come out on top re: Swift vs. ripple. Conversely, I can say that if Swift succeeds, it's bye-bye for ripple. I would give a bit more credit to Swift

If Swift didn't start with blockchain technology they would be the next blackberry when the iphone first came out. Ripple however tends to first take on the asian market and from there take over the world. I am just interested in the upcoming event to see which banks are working with ripple. It will be a race between ripple and swift.

174  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: All airdrops are ponzi schemes? on: October 01, 2017, 06:10:43 PM
I don't know why airdrops should be considered ponzy schemes or scams. Maybe I'm getting it wrong, but aren't they just free money? I consider BCH as an airdrop, and I enjoyed it. I also participate in byteball aridrops, and I like them as well. There is no risk for me, I can just sell the coins if I don't believe in the project, so I don't know how I can be scammed with these. Maybe I'm not seeing the big picture here, I don't know.

Yes well, is there are big picture behind it?

That is the reason why I opened that thread. Because as said Im not feeling comfortable to join airdops, but I lack on knowledge about airdrops and possible risk it might contain. Like joining possible scam and being part of distributing possible scam... I duno...as said  Im not comfortable with it. Would like to know more about it. Some deeper insights....

Im not saying all airdrops are scam as I dont know it... but want to know more about it..

You receiving coins from an airdrop is not the scam. The scam is the airdrop itself. Is it really shared to the investors fair. Or is 10% going to investors and 90% to the developers. You can't verify it. But it comes with trust, if you trust a coin/team than you will trust an airdrop, else you wouldn't invest your money in it

177  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ICO VS IPO on: October 01, 2017, 01:26:17 PM
I see ICO's now as the kickstarters of a few years ago. At least than you could invest in a kickstarter campaign for a real product or at least a demo product. What you see now with ICO's is that a lot of them (not all) tend to raise money on an idea, without even some guarantee that the idea is doable.

179  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ICO VS IPO on: October 01, 2017, 08:03:03 AM
IPO or Initial Public Offering is a movement where company are introducing their product on the market also can be refer as Initial Product Offering.
ICO or Initial Coin Offering where company are raising funds to develop their on going project. They have product but not totally made or finish thats why they use ICO to fund it. Also know as Crowd funding.

Not true what you are saying. How do you else explain that facebook did an IPO 8 years after launching facebook.... It has to do with going up on the stock exchange and not about offering a product....
180  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ICO VS IPO on: October 01, 2017, 07:19:44 AM
good day to you All dear readers

i have recently read an article and it they said there is ico's and ipo's what is exactly the differance between them? glad to hear you opinions

best regards

IPO = Intial public offering, the moment a company goes to the stock exchange and gives out stocks for people to buy;
ICO = Initial coin offering, the moment a company needs cash to fund further development of their idea, difference with an IPO is that nobody would buy stocks on a company that does not have a working
product, service etc. Some ICO's collect a lot of money without a working product.
