IPO = Intial public offering, the moment a company goes to the stock exchange and gives out stocks for people to buy;
ICO = Initial coin offering, the moment a company needs cash to fund further development of their idea, difference with an IPO is that nobody would buy stocks on a company that does not have a working
product,service etc. Some ICO's collect a lot of money without a working product.

IPO or Initial Public Offering is a movement where company are introducing their product on the market also can be refer as Initial Product Offering.
ICO or Initial Coin Offering where company are raising funds to develop their on going project. They have product but not totally made or finish thats why they use ICO to fund it. Also know as Crowd funding.

Not true what you are saying. How do you else explain that facebook did an IPO 8 years after launching facebook.... It has to do with going up on the stock exchange and not about offering a product....

To my knowledge, the ICO is a legitimate way to raise capital for startup companies. During the ICO period, a certain amount of Cryptocurrency, also known as token, will be offered to investors. In other words, this is a form to mobilize real capital in electronic money.. The IPO is an abbreviation for the term First Public Release. This is the explanation for the action of selling securities, launching shares for the first time. Actually, the ICO and the IPO have some similarities but they are different. For a company's stock, issued during the IPO, always represents a share of ownership in the company. This is not in the ICO. In addition, IPOs are closely managed by the government. In contrast, the ICOs is a new model, largely unaffected by government regulations. That means any project can launch an ICO

Main difference between ICO and IPO is for IPO, investor is entitled to a claim in the entities assets minus its liabilities (known as equity) and has a right to vote on matters relating to the company. For ICO you don't own a stock or security. There are no protections. A fancy website selling tokens is what you get.

Exactly. Just because ICOs dress up fancy, with financial estimations, market research and deep technical analysis, they would look amateurish next to the sort of marketing material that IPOs have. These are usually audited financial reports, verified assets, vetted people with vetted qualifications and experience. The marketing brochure is hundreds of pages long.

ICOs have no assurances and you own absolutely nothing except digital tokens that cost next to nothing to issue. Be warned.

good day to you All dear readers

best regards

-Biggest difference is regulations, accesability. Anyone can join an ICO, almost no one can join an IPO. You need big cash for an IPO, you can join most ICOs with 10$ or less.

-In an IPO there is mutual cooperation, the devs are obliged to the investor to show results and investors are oblidged to the devs to show they are helping it build/grow in any way they can. From business strategy's, connections, marketing, improvements.

-In an ICO there is none of that and the whole relation is founded on trust, trust that devs will deliver as they say and trust towards investors that they back the project up financially. Devs are not oblidged by law or regulation to deliver results and could make a ''run for the money''. Leaving investors heartbroken.

-With an IPO the investor is oblidged to hold investments atleast 6 months after stock release.
-With an ICO the investor can choose to step out any point aslong as its listed on an exchange or he should arrange a deal with someone outside of the exchanges.
-IPOs are most beneficial towards the early birds and hardly profit the average joe that can buy into them only once they are fully released on the stock market.
-ICOs are beneficial towards anyone who knows what they're doing or took some lucky guesses.

Here's my take; ICOs are essentially unregulated raises of capital while IPO's are regulated by the banking system.

did you mean ipo chan?
lol sorry just kidding.
IPO is short for Initial Public Offering means Initial Public Offering shares a company to the general public. So the general public has the opportunity to buy after the IPO of the company's shares because before any IPO means the shares have not been traded in the stock market.
whereas ICO or Initial Coin Offering has recently been more and more intense since 2017, many developers are using this method to raise funds for the sake of developing their projects. Funds collected can reach millions of US dollars.

ICO is not regulated, means no rule to follow in terms of information disclosure and due diligence check, people invest for concept and vision and often, ICO company accumulates massive capital before product delivery. ICO investor don't own any share in the company. ICO is like, get money first then let's the product done. IPO is the opposite.

also ICO is not like a crowdfunding. Yes maybe both are same, people put money into unfinished product. But in crowdfunding the product, project and creator is more clear and most ICO going scam. someone post thread on bitcointalk about his/her coin, then people starting to invest but after the dev get money he/she can just take the money and leave his project without further development. ICO is more like donation

They are almost the same, but the obvious difference is:
IPO = stock shares
ICO = Token/Coin

From a technical point of view there is no difference. In my ICO file is the same only instead of IPO shares tokens.

In my opinion, IPO is stage where by a private company lists stock on exchanges for the public, usually smaller private companies willing expand and improve their business and services. The company should as well provide liquidity. Investors buy in the aim of making profit.

Similarly, an ICO is stage whereby a company raises funds for a newly created cryptocurrency. The company should bring forward idea of the project in order to convince investors, in this case whiterpaper, technical document and the roadmap.

Early investors get bonuses, and funds will be used to develop the project further.
