I get that it's pretty foggy now.  Excellent work and innovation so far!

So, is the masternode network(the current nodes that are set up right now) being used at all up until the 25th?  Or is the activation of the masternode network included in the implementation of the "masternode payments" due out on May 25th?

Can someone please give us an answer to this?  Is the activation of the masternode network included in the implementation of hte "masternode payments" due out on may 25th?

Thanks

Right now, masternodes are functioning.  One is elected each round and if there is a darksend, it does it's work.  The only thing that isn't implemented is paying of the masternodes. Also, we're still limited to under 10 coins per DarkSend, and there is only one layer of mixing.

We are still getting an update to Dark Gravity Wave, which has had hiccups with some operating systems and the issue with having our wallets trying to pick up lightcoin's blockchain should be fixed as well.  This one was why people kept getting their blockchain stuck I believe Smiley

Why is DRK so hard to push upward and so quick to fall (or worse, get stuck in long spells of protracted stagnation).

There's a cloud over this coin that has nothing to do with Evan's great work and all the innovation and features, and I don't think it can be dismissed. Maybe this instamining is it - I don't know. But the kind of good news and work put into this coin should've made it perform like BlackCoin in its heyday. Why does it continue to struggle like this (from the perspective of those of us who aren't early adopters).

People are so used to pumping and dumping of crypto coins.  Darkcoin has been increasing in price at a very steady rate, although it climbs steeply when there is something interesting happening, such as an article that gives exposure or progress on the features.  There is no drama, because a lot of people are being serious with this coin.  You don't get tons of people dumping, and pumping hasn't worked.

So, although we are doing super well, we don't have the drama.  We are mature, we are real.  I don't see a struggling coin at all.  I see one that stands out from the crowd so far, that it can only be compared to Bitcoin itself in how it grew.

How do you feel about that?

Sorry you missed the lunch. I was there at the lunch.

I also bought 10,000 darkcoins for 0.25 BTC about 2 weeks after the release.

How do you feel about that?
I feel like you should give away some. You've made a lot of money already.

You best watch your back around DieCommieScum, LOL

Ring signatures are going to be implemented in V2. I will begin development immediately after I opensource V1.

How do we compete against clones? Can they clone me? I work on this full time. In fact, I've only been at it four months. So far I've implemented DarkSend + X11 + DGW + Masternode payments. Plus, I've agreed to work on this project till at least Jan 2016 full time. So who on earth would invest in a clone?

Hi Evan, nice to see you come up for air, LOL Cheesy

DRK community doesn't handle FUD correctly, the way BTC/LTC/DOGE etc handle even though the community has been here for 4-5 months.

I'm not very crypto coin worldly, please tell me how to handle it 'cause I'm tired of the way I've been doing it, LOL

and ac2 is added to the ever growing ignore list. Don't feed the troll

How do you feel about that?

I hope that Evan (and the rest of the intelligent team) was the one who got the most coins since he deserves to be able to live of this coin.

He gave most of them away.  CHAOSiTEC, whom I also miss terribly, has only 2% of what he mined.  He gave away over 18,000 coins.  All because they believed in the coin AND because they KNEW an isolated coin, that was in the hands of a few has no VALUE!  It's called enlightened self interest.  So unless you believe big coin holders from the "instamine" want to hurt themselves, or the coin, you couldn't believe they still had all that coin.  And it seems, from people studying the blockchain, that nobody held on to the early coins like that.  And I believe that most of the large wallet holders have been identified as exchanges, even which exchange.

I'm so sick of this subject but feel I have to explain each time these FUD spreaders come in, so that newbs have the facts, the WHOLE facts, not the glossy, "everyone is a crook" scandalous facts. https://darkcointalk.org/threads/the-birth-of-darkcoin.162/

That is not trolling. How come none of you are concerned about this??

Because if you watched the market, the block chain, and have followed what's happened since last January you would know that most if not all those coins have since been given away, sold off, etc... and in my opinion, has made for a far better distribution of coins than mining alone ever could have.  It kept the price low for many months, IMO, allowing for people without much hash power and non miners to be able to buy coin.  I bought almost half of what I have, because the price remained low enough even for someone like myself, out of work for 10 years, and living on a shoe string budget.  I bought over a long period of time, often, heck, each time at the high of that week.  Yet I feel I have done super well.  So even I could put together a couple of masternodes!  Just never go out to eat, I still desperately need a pair of tennis shoes, Mom bought me a hair cut.  Just forgo all those usual things, and I could gather a hundred bucks here and there, over a long period of time and still buy under 2 bucks a coin.  If miners were in control and there were no cheap coins, I never would have had that opportunity.

No, it even seems the big wallets now are exchanges or else they've been growing for some time (in other words, collecting after the "instamine"
)

And the instamine was not on purpose, it was a fu*kup.  An honest mistake of exuberance and sending it to market before vetting it.  Evan was excited, was sure he had it all figured out and wanted to launch it to see what happened.  It's that same exuberance that makes him such a fantastic developer.

And I'm afraid we pushed him away, as he hardly shows up anymore Sad  He's afraid to tell us anything he is thinking anymore because it kept getting him in trouble Sad  I'm sad about that Sad

The next stage of DarkSend

What type of return will you see?

- If there’s 1 capable master node, you’ll receive all payments 576*(AverageReward/10) per day

Capable Nodes, Daily Reward
1, 1094DRK
2, 547DKR
5, 218DRK
10, 109DRK
20, 54DRK
50, 21DRK
100, 11DRK

As you can see, we’ll quickly reach equilibrium with the price and at the same time this will create buying pressure raising the price more and causing the network to become increasingly secure.

Also, we can build our master node network now in the immediate. Users can buy the darkcoin needed to run one and they will just run the beta client. We'll open source the election code and hard fork to add the payments to master nodes in and our network will be secure by the time we're ready to do a full launch.

I really love the idea, thoughts?

As it currently stands with price and difficulty, master nodes should yield the most profitable rewards. For the price of a small rig, you can buy some DRK and get the same output as someone with ~50 - 100 mh/s.

The rate goes down with more nodes, but it's still a great investment at the moment. For the amount of capital, you are probably looking at a better return than an average rental property because the set-up costs are so much lower.

Actually, with minimum rewards now, it's more like

1, 288
100, 2.88
200, 1.44
1000, 0.288

ETC... Depending on how many Masternodes are created, it won't be much of a cash cow.

Reaching the minimum block reward is actually a good thing for mining profitability. Previously, block reward drops as diff increases, which effectively compounds the reduction in profitability. Once the block reward becomes static, it will be easier for the price to keep up with network hashrate.

^^^ That's what I was thinking, but couldn't put it into words, thanks LimLims Cheesy
170  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: May 12, 2014, 02:50:35 PM
we'll reach minimum block reward sooner / the total number of coins will bottom out....

My only concern is that this behavior will result in the DRK network never having the momentus hashrate that makes other blockchains untouchable.

One 3TH/s ASIC would rape the whole network instantly. I'm not saying that X11 = SHA256 Double Round. But that ASICs are inevitable with anything that catches on enough to have value. We all hope it catches on simply because it's a good idea. But the value that comes with it will drive ASICs into X11. DGW3 certainly discourages it as the network hashrate is already reaching minimum with a few dozen GPU rigs... But it might be stifling it so much that the network will never have appreciable hash defense.

If say, guvthugs decided to build just one "X11 Neptune" of their own, DRK breaks. None of this "buying masternodes" crap arguments. They really could buy all the hashpower they need without touching a GPU or the markets simply by building one custom ASIC. Dev cost on that is a few million bucks in bureaucracy free-to-them taxed money.

This is why ASICs are actually a good thing for a coin. If you don't let your coin become an ASIC coin, then it takes one fat wallet to make one for themselves and your coin is borked. If your coin isn't using them, then it becomes a nuke they can drop on it.

My hope is that DGW3+X11=ASICs still happen, but the reward is low enough that the ASIC's price will have to be sensible enough that anyone can buy it, thus avoiding centralization. But, that doesn't seem to be what is happening. If a coin stays GPU/CPU mine-able, then a clandestine FPG or ASIC becomes a cheap (in the eyes of it's creator who has way deep pockets) saboteur. You MUST let your coin escalate into ASICs or it's doomed by anyone who can afford to make The Bomb.

I understand what you're saying, but once the difficulty is high enough to lower payments to 5 coins, it stops lowering.  So hopefully there is enough reward left to fight over and the hash will still be healthy.  I mean, people are still hashing now, and the coin hasn't really even begun to rise to the price I expect it to.??

guys,What is the next step in the programme?

coding so that any amount of DRK can be DarkSent, and I believe Evan has some sort of improvement to announce??

Then, I believe, we will get a trusted "white hat" to look over the code and attempt to hack it, "vetting the code"

Then eventually open source.  I'm not sure if I missed a step or two though?

Is there anyone having this problem?

darkcoind getblocktemplate
error: {"code":-1,"message":"CreateNewBlock() : ConnectBlock failed"}

I compiled from the latest github source, connected to testnet, but have no success on this command.
I even deleted testnet3 directory and rebooted but not working as expected.

getmininginfo
{
    "blocks" : 4601,
    "currentblocksize" : 1000,
    "currentblocktx" : 0,
    "difficulty" : 0.08607635,
    "errors" : "",
    "generate" : false,
    "genproclimit" : -1,
    "hashespersec" : 0,
    "networkhashps" : 2751552,
    "pooledtx" : 0,
    "testnet" : true
}

this getmininginfo command seems alright.

getconnectioncount
4

Gosh, I'm not sure what getblocktemplate does?  But just a note, if you compile the code yourself, it will be without DarkSend, as that's still closed source.  All it has is the code required to elect and pay the masternodes, I believe.  Anyway, not knowing what getblocktemplate does, I thought maybe this is the reason???

Tante, us forum ramblers do just as much!! IMHO. Look at Blackcoin, contracted a high-end PR firm to stay above water and try to bring value to their PoS strategy, branding all over the interwebs with prizes and bling.bling.bling...

We raise awareness, rinse off the trolls, welcome new comers, bring life to darkcointalk.org... We're not the brains but we are the heart and lungs!

 We gained 11m in market cap due to Darkcoin dev's talent, and a coherent, supportive and friendly community,!

 Seriously, DRK is LTC on steroids!

Yes, I suppose there is some use for us, LOL.  I see a great future here, so it's not hard to be a cheerleader  Cheesy

What about p2pool Huh

User dstorm  on darkcointalk.org says s/he's just about figured out P2pool, and wants to test it out on testnet but unfortunately, it's not working (testnet that is, it's down)

But thank goodness someone is working on this!

And I totally agree, splawik21, this is a great community!  Wish I knew more to help better!

splawik21, maybe there is lag?

@Tante: you`re not causing trouble at all! In fact, you are explaining very well the technical details to non-IT-people like myself! Thank you!
So, 22 Million is the definitive maximum and about 14 Million is the minimum? Those two numbers do not change regardless of what the hashrate does, correct?

Yes, correct, though those numbers are not exact, just rounded ;P
176  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: May 12, 2014, 06:44:34 AM
I dont get the whole "how many coins will be mined" thing sorry, would someone care to explain why the total amount of DRK to be mined might be going from 22 million to 11 million and what the implications are?  can this be changed etc?

I'm sorry for causing trouble.  I was going by memory, but it's more like 14 million.  What happens is that the rewards are diminished when more people mine.  The more hash rate on this coin, the lower the reward until it hits a minimum of 5 coins.  If we really are at 7 coins right now, I imagine we'll be at 5 in a week or so.  Next year, and each year after, the number of coins will also be reduced 7%.  So our minimum of 5 coins will be reduced more and more each year.  That is what the chart shows.  I always thought it was likely that we'd "hug the minimum number of coins line" as I said back then, and it seems that's indeed what is happening now.

However, we must remember that if this coin becomes less popular to mine, and the difficulty goes back down, the rewards will increase again.  The system is designed to encourage people to mine if mining becomes unprofitable or people leave for whatever reason via the increase in rewards.  It's supposed to find it's own balance and so I may be wrong and people may stop mining and the rewards increased again as intended.  However, if the coins value keeps going up, and it remains profitable to mine despite having minimum rewards, then it will continue along that minimum line.
177  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: May 12, 2014, 06:28:51 AM
Nice Sellorder......20btc brought us from 600 to 580
I don't know how you all see it, but since Saturday I am expecting a big correction dip before we definitely go up. I wouldn't be surprised if we go back to 500-525

Well, if it really turns out to be true that only 11 Million are going to be mined...can anyone confirm that?

Well, I'm off a bit, but this chart that was made a while back when the total number of coins were going to be reduced, I just looked at a copy I downloaded to my computer, and it's more like 14 million

Is this still true?  We're about to hit minimum, and I don't see us coming back from that?
178  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: May 12, 2014, 05:31:16 AM
finally figured it out Smiley For some reason the MN list is showing the public IP broadcasted by my home router, it's not showing the elastic IP of the EC2 instance. Any idea why this is happening?

When setting this up, did you start darkcoind normally on your remote computer?  IE: ./darkcoind ?

When starting your local server, did you start it with the  masternode=ip:9999
then unlock the wallet, then start masternode - all on the local wallet?

Does your remote configure have your ip address in the right spot?

Finally, do both wallet config files have masternode=1 in them and the proper needed ip address "addnode=25.25.XXX.XXX"?

Those are the main things I can think of???

yep, i followed all these instructions, my home router IP is shown in the list still instead of the IP of the EC2 instance.

Ok, well it seems like your local wallet is not hooking up with the EC2

Have you possibly started your local darkcoind first with a normal start up, like ./darkcoind before doing ./darkcoind masternodeaddr=ip:9999 ?

If so, you must stop your darkcoind, and start it up from the beginning with ./darkcoind masternodeaddr=(ip_of_remote_server):9999

THEN, you need to unlock your local (hopefully passphrased wallet)
Then do the ./darkcoind masternode start passphrase

something got messed up in the steps, we just have to figure out where Smiley  I do this all the time, it's common to get a blind spot, sometimes it's better after walking away from it for a few hours Smiley

Well, it looks like we're going to hit the minimum coins to be paid, 5 coins per block, very soon.  I believe if this continues, we'll only ultimately mine 11 million coins, no?  The 22 million or so coins originally predicted assumed a much less drastic increase in hash rate.

The four major pools have OVER 93% of the hash rate. That is not healthy. Spread your hash folks!

Darkcointalk pool currently has 0% fees !!

I don't always pool.
But when I do
I pool with Darkcointalk pool

I am, the most interesting hag in the world!
