This might be a great coin but if you cant get the wallet to work (sync) what good is it?
Ive tried everything, older versions, the newest version, editing the config file, deleting the config file, to no avail.  It will not sync.

Though I admit Im a "newbie" Ive had other wallets.  Gamecoin wallets, Feathercoin wallets, Litecoin wallets, UTC wallets, Betacoin wallets even a Barbecue wallet without any problems whatsoever.

So, Im just giving my 2 cents worth, if you find people are abandoning this coin its no because they dint have faith in it.  Its because its self-defeating without a wallet that could work.

This is total BS. I have a 1 wallet on mac and 1 on windows running fine. If you're being genuine, I suggest you back up your wallet.dat file or send you coins to an exchange, then do a re-install. You could also start a new user account and do a fresh install there, sounds to me like you deleted something you shouldn't have.

Agreed.  Maybe ask for help.  User error should not entitle you spread nonsense.

I just sold everything, it is not worthy to hold it any more! See you in some other movie and on some other coin forum thread!

My god, you are a genius to sell at 24.

I'm sure this has been mentioned before here but I'm too tired to read through all 316 pages. Are there any efforts to use Mint for tipping?

Another long shot idea:  What if Mintcoin engaged in a partnership with Mint, the financial app?  Imagine if they offered some new crypto advice to merely download a wallet, get coins from giveaways (or friends or wherever), and hold for POS.  Again it's a long shot, but imagine the exposure.

Personally, I'm helping everyone I know set up a Mint wallet and helping them understand how it works.  Then I send them a few thousand and they are fascinated.  They don't really care about the value, they are impressed by the concept of having a wallet that mints coins automatically.  They are impressed by the idea of being able to send currency to whomever, whenever they want.  I'm guessing 99% of the population has no idea that alt cryptos even exist.  If people want cryptos to have any sort of a future, then you have to show even the most computer illiterate people how this works. They will be impressed, especially if you start their wallet off for them with a few coins.

This isn't just for Mint.  Do this for any coin you support.  Look at how long Bitcoin has been around.  I'm pretty sure 80% of the world population have no idea what it is.  If they do, they don't know how to use it. Most people will never get into this on their own.  If they don't, there won't be a very long future for cryptos.  Really, how long do you think the pump n dump bullshit can last before the whole system implodes, or worse, gets regulated.

Still bagholding?

Remember people in this thread told you to hold at 40 satoshi...you could have doubled your investment.

Now we're going to 15 satoshi. See you there!

To avoid any further confusion, here is a list of all the future Mint fluctuations.  This is an open source list.  Please feel free to apply it for all other coins as well.

15-55
12-22
16-88

The voices have spoken.  I am merely a conduit.

Voices eh? I want the pills your on!

You dare make light of the Voices?  The wrath you shall suffer from such blasphemy will be untold.  Again, I am merely a conduit.  The gods have adopted Mintcoin as the currency of the heavens.  The angels and demons have embarked upon on a battle of epic proportions to control the heavenly wallet.  Only time will tell.  This is the reason for the price fluctuations.

Should I PM you the pills?

Somebody please tell me how to turn off POS in my wallet.  All this Mint keeps showing up in my wallet for no reason.  I have a wife and 3 kids, so I am unable to grasp the concept of money coming in, vs out.  It's causing me serious situational anxiety and my psych bills are more than my Mint earnings.  I'm even considering a bounty for a solution.

All you guys whining about the price fluctuations should maybe invest in Monsato or Apple.  These great companies are much more stable and provide better moral examples to live by.

It ain't rocket surgery, for crying outside.

What are you talking about? Who are you talking to?!!

You.  Figure it out.

Hmmm... new crypto coin announced by a "Newbie"?! Undecided

correction.. new clone coin with source code pre- and/or flash mined on another web site first then announced by a newbie..

get involved in this garbage your an idiot .

hey scamming piece of shit.. slit your wrists please

Pretty sure this coin is dead since I can't find any info on it anywhere.  There is a different Photon coin which doesn't appear to be related to the one in this thread that was launched last night.  It was announced last night on cryptocointalk and twitter, but there is also a new thread here somewhere.

Look at the hash power , only 300mhash left.
I'm not bashing , this are facts. Atlantis was bashing us when we had 'the pump'

If they are facts, they don't need to be restated. Unless you want to build up your postcount, which constitutes as spam.

You may continue stating facts if they actually have any relation to SMC and if you're able to make any coherent argument, which you haven't been able to.

It seems like you're still trying to build up your stash of coins. You promised to dump your coins, but you haven't yet. Why's that? Too scared to sell for a loss? If this is the only the beginning of the low, why are you still holding? Cash out now before it's too late.

Unfortunately, people of BitcoinTalk, this is how people acquire coins and make more and more money. They scare you into selling so that they may buy up cheap coins, awaiting for a high enough price to get rich.

This means that metstijl is being deceptive and doesn't have any real argument for why this coin is dead. The price does not dictate whether a coin is dead, neither a market cap or an exchange.

Give up with your scare tactics. metstijl. Sell what you have and get it over with, you're only causing yourself pain. You are having delusions of grandeur thinking that you could control everyone, well you can't. Give up, sell at a loss. I'll give you a mighty 500 mBTC for your apparently worthless stash of dead coins.

You can stop wasting your time my friend, we know it's the weekend and high school is out, but surely you have some assignments to do. You're just another fish in the sea of whales, you're nothing.

I say let these guys try and drive the price down.  In the short term it's great because I can buy and mine more.  Everyone should know that these markets are controlled by the few that own the most coins.  It's not like the price of Smartcoin is by consumer demand, yet.  These coins are constantly getting pumped and dumped by a few players with large holdings.  Of course the price will have wild fluctuations in this type of market.

This coin has a lot going for it, so the powers that be will continue to manipulate the price as long as long as possible.  I like Smartcoin and it would be great if it can achieve it's full potential.  However, if that happens, it's a long ways off.  In the meantime the price will be dictated by what everyone knows are corrupt markets.  So if you are short term, buy low sell high, in case you didn't know.  If you believe in the coin's long term potential, then none of the crap you read here should affect your decisions.
172  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] PHO Photon (blake 256 algo) no premine on: February 21, 2014, 02:51:56 PM
Because I'm too lazy to do my own research right now, does anyone know how the difficulty for a coin like this compares to scrypt?  I get 3X my normal GPU hashrate, but I see the dif is already over 2 million.  Is there any way to relate the two algorithms?  What would be a low dif and a high dif for blake256?  I'm still getting blocks, but I'm wondering at what point it will become inefficient.  I'm running at 1.5 Gh/s and 900 Mh/s.

Also, thanks for everyone's help and thanks to BlueDragon747 for the pool work.

Actually, I found that there is already a coin called photoncoin before you released, which was released on Jan, 2014.

I want to know what's the relationship of this coin and photoncoin!

the original thread can be found here:

https://cryptocointalk.com/topic/2938-photoncoin-pho-information/

I noticed this too.  I'm curious as well.  Maybe dead?  I don't think it is a scam.  Cinnamon Carter is the dev.  Also dev of Cinnamoncoin.  Seems like a legit guy.  It wasn't premined because I immediately saw the Tweet and announcement on cryptocointalk.  Was less than block 1000 when I finally got the wallet to work after an hour or so.  It's cool getting these hashrates, but I wonder if it ends up being the same as everything else after difficulty adjusts.

I'm not sure they need an image of a coin.  What would you buy with photons?

ha! How do you know the dev is Cinnamon Cater?

Actually, I am mining now, and have a mount of Photons for the sale.

He announced on Twitter and Cryptocointalk.  I'm still curious about that other coin.  The Website doesn't seem to work.  I'm guessing it failed?  It was announced by "Jimmy".  I see his name a lot.  I just can't remember which other coins he is associated with off the top of my head.

I've spent a few hours on cgminer setup and need some help.  I used the cgminer dl in the OP.  It has a blake256.conf file and a cgminer. conf file.  Anyone know the correct settings?  Win7 64.

The cgminer.conf file is what you're after.  But first you need to create a photon.conf file in your Users/user/appdata/Roaming/Photon folder with the following details:

listen=1
gen=0
rpcallowip=127.0.0.1
rpcuser=username
rpcpassword=password
rpcport=8984
server=1
daemon=1
addnode=162.243.101.139

I bolded the details where you put your personal information.  After this photon.conf file is saved in your appdata folder, change the same bolded settings in your cgminer.conf file:

{
"pools" : [
   {
      "url" : "http://127.0.0.1:8984",
      "user" : "Username",
      "pass" : "password"
   }
],

"intensity" : "11",
"auto-gpu" : true,
"expiry" : "10",
"failover-only" : true,
"gpu-threads" : "1",
"log" : "5",
"no-restart" : true,
"queue" : "5",
"scan-time" : "1",
"worksize" : "128",
"temp-hysteresis" : "4",
"blake256" : true,
"vectors" : "1",
"kernel-path" : "/"
}

Save this conf file, and open cgminer.exe.  The lower details (intensity, etc.) can be adjusted according to your GFX card.  If you're a newbie to that too, I'd suggest only messing with the Intensity.

Thanks for the quick response.  I had spent a few hours trying what you mentioned.  But your response made me remember that the wallet will not load for me if I use the port in the wallet .conf file, so I deleted it.  That's probably my problem, which means I'm totally fucked on this launch.  And I saw it immediately on Twitter.

Edit:  I added the port back to wallet conf, now it opens.  cgminer hashing away.  It's always the little stupid things....

Anyone know what's up with block time on hashstrike, xhash, updamoon, and miningpool.co?  I've never seen it so slow.  I've tried them all today and I might get 1000/hr if I'm lucky.  At 1.2Mh/s.  Usually I get 5000/hr.

You need to stay 24h at least to even out. Same with other coins. By switching between pools you usually worsen it.

I get that, but I have mined Leaf off and on daily since launch, so I'm familiar with block times and payouts.  The block time is longer than usual.  I was just looking for an explanation as to why.

Thanks.  I will give it a go.  Something is goofy.  I was just ran two miners simultaneously for 30 minutes on each site.  Nothing scientific, as I wasn't intentionally comparing the two, but the results were noticeable:

200Kh/s at Hashstrike = appx. 2000 coins

430Kh/s at Hashrapid = appx. 1700 coins

cgminer was constantly resetting the network difficulty on both and both had quite a few rejections.  I'm new at this, but could it be anything other than the pools (or me)?
