161  Other / Off-topic / [WARNING] Iphone's default mail app has a serious security issue on: April 23, 2020, 01:52:27 PM
Quote
The flaw had not previously been disclosed to Apple, making it extremely valuable to a variety of bad actors. ZecOps says it believes “with high confidence that these vulnerabilities... are widely exploited in the wild in targeted attacks by an advanced threat operator(s).” ZecOps believes that at least six high-profile targets were victims of the exploit, including an executive from a mobile carrier in Japan and “individuals from a Fortune 500 company in North America.”

[...] “The attack’s scope consists of sending a specially crafted email to a victim’s mailbox enabling it to trigger the vulnerability in the context of iOS MobileMail application on iOS 12 or maild on iOS 13,” the report reads. ZecOps says the vulnerability, which underlies at least two related iOS zero-day exploits, has existed in the Mail app since at least iOS 6, which was released in 2012.

Beware guys, log out from Apple's mail app, use Outlook or Edison instead then change your password.

My alt was last active on September 13, 2019- https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=2679734
Using TOR browser from mobile device is a huge pain in the ass, hence, Chrome from mobile.
That is my point. I can see you use Tor for privacy but then Chrome destroys that purspose. Or it is just Bitcointalk privacy is not your concern. FYI, firefox has a mobile version and it runs well.
164  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Trump Threatens to Cut US Contribution to WHO. on: April 20, 2020, 03:03:09 PM
WHO refused to act on Taiwan's warning,

WHO has its staffs virtually all over the world. Yes they announced the disease but gave improper information and it took them almost a month to do so. It is rediculous knowing that WHO's experts are on top in the field.

Yes they are an advisory board and they refused to listen to a warning from Taiwan in a blink of an eye.
what did WHO dismiss
who was talking publicly about it being an atypical disease the same time taiwan was saying it.
what you are not realising is that on the 18th of december to the 30th of december. it was atypical respiratory disease
the hospitals and who were all still running tests. and still only getting patents with ties to the wetmarket
I do not miss any point. I did not say anything about WHO-did-nothing. WHO dismissed nothing but a deathly point, which took them 2 weeks to "running tests" and "getting patents with ties to the wetmarket" to annouce an irresponsible note: "only limited human-to-human transmission" as late as Jan. 14. Their action was deliberately slow. Yes, WHO publicly talked about an "atypical disease" but Taiwan was way ahead of them.

I can guarantee you this. Just like you think WHO was doing their job, China talked to them: "Hey, it just a common flu. We can handle it". WHO then annouced it "an atypical disease". When Taiwan gave the warning, China said: "Dump it. The virus is from bats". Then magazines wrote about bats. When China failed to control the spread, WHO admitted the person-to-person transmission and declared global pandemic.

Just do the math, from Dec. 31 when Taiwan warned till Jan. 14 when WHO said "there was only limited human-to-human transmission", how many people migrated from Wuhan and spreaded the virus all over the world. Was it a coincedence that Russia and North Korea, two of China's closest allies was the first countries to close their borders with China.

Oh hey, how about the virus name. WHO must be so vocal in changing it.

Firefox is my one and only choice. I tried Tor once and could not stand its speed.

I'm using TOR browser for log in bitcointalk. Which browser do you use when you log in bitcointalk? Some may use more than one browser as well. For instance, sometimes I use Chrome as well when I log in from mobile.
Do you log in with an alt account on your mobile? If not, does it make sense using Tor on PC?

Can't wait to be shocked yet again at how many people willingly use the Google Chrome browser spyware.
Me, too. Brave KYC is also worth expecting.

Edit: You are right about Chrome.

  • First and foremost, WHO ‘refused to act’
.. wait.. so your saying when china made an announcement that there was a pandemic. the WHO didnt back up china enough by refusing to act on china's announcement??

so are you saying there was no involvement with WHO before january ninth.
if your saying WHO refused to act. then how can they have been in bed with china.. sounds like your implying WHO are against china by brushing off the issue as non-news and refusing to act..
You need to understand this first then read my previous post again. Taiwan is not China. It is funny but Taiwan claims its territory over China mainland and China claims that Taiwan is a part of it. They are two opposite entities, if not enemies. With that being said, China does not want WHO to admit Taiwan's membership.

WHO refused to act on Taiwan's warning, not China's. I even wish that China had done similar thing as Taiwan. Do you know why China's nearby countries like Vietnam and Taiwan are doing so far better during this pandemic. It is because they know right information and situation at early stage, when WHO was still reluctant to announce. It is WHO did not act properly and made the Western over subjective and now you see the consequences.

Quote
ok here is that FACTS
'patient zero' was hospitalised on december 18th. wuhan hospital thought it was a bit of an iffy list(atypical) of symptoms that didnt follow the same path as usual flu. so sent off tests.
[TL;DR]
by january 9th the whole world got the official announcement that it was a risk to the world
WHO has its staffs virtually all over the world. Yes they announced the disease but gave improper information and it took them almost a month to do so. It is rediculous knowing that WHO's experts are on top in the field.

actually who's role is ad advisory board. they are not authoritarian. .. heck it was america that organised and ordered 'repatriation flights' in february march and april..
Yes they are an advisory board and they refused to listen to a warning from Taiwan in a blink of an eye.
P.S: I neither defense Trump's decision on dumping WHO nor his "just a flu" attitude. I am so sorry for the US' current situation. I just want to make it clear that current WHO is no more WHO of 2003. No more Dr. Carlo Urbani that sacraficed himself to save people. Tedros Adhanom is just a China's puppet.
167  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Trump Threatens to Cut US Contribution to WHO. on: April 20, 2020, 10:34:12 AM
I'd just like to make it clear that I'm not supporting some weird conspiracy regarding the coronavirus. I don't think that the WHO is in bed with the Chinese. [...]
Let me give you some evidences that WHO is in bed with China:

  • First and foremost, WHO ‘refused to act’ on Taiwan’s virus alert (https://asiatimes.com/2020/03/who-refused-to-act-on-taiwans-virus-alert/). FYI, Taiwan is one of the most sucessful countries/areas in controling/blocking the spread of Covid-19 (422 infected, 6 dead, recovered 203 over a population of 23,78 miliilion at the time of writing, source: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/taiwan/).
The Taiwanese government has said it sounded the alarm at the end of last year about possible human-to-human transmission of a new coronavirus when it first started to strike people down in the central Chinese city of Wuhan. Yet its warning went unheeded by the World Health Organization (WHO), of which the island is not a member due to disputes over its statehood.
Imagine if WHO, at its position, had taken the warning into serious consideration and carried out some investigation, then announced it publicly, how many lives could have been saved. The reason behind WHO's ignorance is really political based: Taiwan is not a member of WHO. The only country in the world does not want Taiwan to be a part of WHO is China. Being a neutral organization, why would WHO do that?

The story did not end there, WHO's CEO then denied ignoring Taiwan's warning but then immediately Taiwan revealed its warning email to WHO (https://focustaiwan.tw/politics/202004110004) and from then, WHO has been keeping silent.
  • Motivations behind Covid-19 name. The pandemic started from Wuhan. The name "Wuhan virus" or "Wuhan flu" is the most appropriate name for to remember it. In the past, there were a lot of similar disaster/ deseases named by locations they happened: Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS), apanese encephalitis, Spanish flu or Ebola virus disease. I see no reason why WHO irrelevantly named it "Covid-19" aside from ingratiating China.

This picture tells a lot: https://image.cnbcfm.com/api/v1/image/106381570-1581299770111gettyimages-1196987003.jpeg

I do not like conspiracy theories either and I am even against Trump's decision in cutting WHO's aid. It would be much more better if he did it after the pademic has gone. WHO still maintains an important role in fighting Covid-19 at the moment. Doing so only results in its internal chaos.

Now that I know your trust ratings review are not wrong. Thanks for your valuable words. I will take them as references to adjust my investment plan. To be honest, I do not have a clear strategy with my money at the moment. I randomly put money to bitcoin or altcoins but do not have those "stocked away 10% of my income into investments" or "$10 per week" ideas.  Besides, I usually trade on the reserved bitcoin for long term. I was right to join this forum. Again, thank you.

Such a wall of text, lol. Just a little bit of exaggeration to make the poem sound funny. But yet, it fairly described my life now. My job is greatly affected by Covid-19, my income drastically decreased. And the worst part is I had to sell an amount of bitcoin to buy a second hand Play Station to kill the time during lockdown. Darn!

But many times, the price is shooting for the moon right out of the gate without even thinking of a retest.

How do you get in on that move, knowing that it's not about to come back and try a retest?

Stay still then find opportunities from other coins. Words of advice again: never chase a running train.

172  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How Do You Enter After a Breakout? on: April 19, 2020, 01:27:01 PM
The price could come down and retest the level or it could continue going up up and away.
That is when you decide your entry. If the retest (old resistance) is sucessful, then seize your entry (the third candle from breaking out). If it fails, find other chances from other coins.

There is a misconception that entry point is when the resistance is broken. If you buy at this, your chance is 50/50 cause as said above, the retest can be failed after that. When it fails, people have the tendencies to sell out of fear. You have to cut losses then.

P.S: Words of advice for a new trader: only trade when market is in up trend.

174  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Trading an Expensive Coin vs a Cheap Coin on: April 17, 2020, 02:20:23 PM
Why should I trade the more expensive one when there is a cheaper one?

I think its better to invest in cheaper one. If you invest in cheaper one, you are able to buy more coin than the expensive one. So when the market is up, you can make more profit due the the amout of the coin.
You guys are being confused between trading vs buying. Buying is like when you buy popcorn or soda, you tend to choose a more affordable brand to get more. But trading is different. The ultimate purpose of trading is to gain profit, i.e to increase your bitcoin (or USDT or any other stable coin) so it does not matter if you choose a cheap or an expensive altcoin. If you buy a coin at 1000 satoshi price, a few days later it increases to 2000 satoshis, you double your investment. Reversely, if you buy a cheap coin at 4 satoshis, next day it plunges to 2 satoshis, you lost half your fund.

The more important thing you should pay more attention is market cap. Marketcap = Price X Circulating Supply. Two altcoins with different prices and different circulating supplies can have the same marketcap. Cheaper or more expensive logic does not make any sense in this case. That said, do not ever take a look at shitcoins with tiny pathetic marketcaps.

Generally, I choose altcoins with decent market caps (top 100 CMC). They are mostly well-known altcoins and have acceptable volumes. Why volumes? Investing is taking risks. Good volumes result in high liquidities. It help you cut losses easily when the market goes against your will.

P.S: If you are serious with trading, it is recommended to take a technical analysis course. It is still dangerous to blindly put your bitcoin into some well-known, decent market cap altcoins. Entry, take-profit and stop-loss are much more important but it is too difficult to talk about them in a post.
175  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I'm a bitcoin beginner, should I buy this book? on: April 16, 2020, 10:57:22 PM
Hi there. Starting something new with books is always a good move. I just want to introduce a really ncie book which I have read recently. You can take it into consideration besides your "The Bitcoin Standard".

Although there were a lot of books relating to bitcoin already but I still would like to recommend Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency Technologies by Arvind Narayanan, Joseph Bonneau, Edward Felten, Andrew Miller and Steven Goldfeder (Princeton Uiversity). As far as I can tell, this is one the most comprehensive academic textbook on bitcoin and blockchain, along with some Andreas Autonopolous' masterpieces.

Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency Technologies provides clear and well-structured explanations on all technical matters, especially in first 5 chapters. The rest of the book is less techinique-biased but interesting and useful. The only downside is that some content/information was a bit out dated because of the publish year was in 2015.

Link for the ebook can be found here: https://www.amazon.com/Bitcoin-Cryptocurrency-Technologies-Comprehensive-Introduction/dp/0691171696

It is best used in combination with videos of lectures from Princeton experts. They are freely shared on Priceton's website: https://bitcoinbook.cs.princeton.edu/.

It's so enjoyable reading and learning in quarantine time.
176  Economy / Services / Re: personalised stop-motion videos to promote your product/service/announcement on: April 15, 2020, 02:31:33 PM
You are so lucky to have a lovely, talented daughter. I was a youtuber doing stop motion videos from super hero models a few years ago. This work requires a huge amount of patience, diligence and creativity. Such a brilliant sense of creativity that she has through the video.

Some words of advice: you should give her a lighter and nicer background. Image quality should be improved. Photos can be taken from a decent smartphone but a stabilizer (tripod) is highly recommended. The more photos are taken, the smoothier the video is. You should also guide her to Final Cut or Premiere for professional use and avoid watermark (Kapwing) from free use softwares/services. Finally, uploading this kind of videos to youtube is a good idea to earn money and video editor/ content creator can be a good path for her when she's grown up. Good luck with your father-daughter duet business.

I was looking around for a Vietnamese local board or thread for while now and finally I found it. It is a little bit weird we use English in a thread full of Vietnamese but it is fine and somewhat help reduce spam. It is time to show that Vietnam has a huge, active and healthy cryptocurrency community.

I am still new with this forum so I barely can help you with any candidate for your good users list. However I believe someday I will name myself on that list.

P.S: Are you a girl? Grin.
178  Other / Meta / Re: Bug in the activity system? on: April 13, 2020, 11:30:15 AM
In the post you quoted is not stated when the update is made. Please read my above quote, which also reflects when and how the activity is updated...

The "daily" or "hourly" update of the activity is only reflected at your profile in case you earn from "latent activity points", which is not the case with this user. If you earn "regular activity points" (which are 14 per interval) these ones are reflected on your profile at the end of the current period.

As far as I can see, this bug affects only the Newbie members, as I didn't see it for higher ranks. And only for the newbies which just registered or which are in their first activity periods.

Maybe you're being confused with your "latent activity points" and "regular activity points". Yesterday his activity count is under his potential activity, which is 28 since he's in 2nd period). He posted 12 more posts today and reached full 28 activities. This number is updated hourly.

As in high rank members' case, their post counts are far more than activities. That said their activities must be updated at the end of periods. It's much more easier for coding, I suppose.

The "bug" you mentioned happends with every one has activity count lower than his potential activity.
179  Other / Meta / Re: Bug in the activity system? on: April 13, 2020, 10:11:08 AM
There's no bug here mate. His total post count is 35, of which 12 were made within today. That's why yester day his activity was 23. He's in his second period, so his activity can reach up to 28. Sorry I don't know how to quote from a locked topic:

Quote
★ If your post count eclipses your activity by 14 or more then you will only need to make one post in the new period to get the full 14 activity. For instance, your post count is 200 but your activity is only 28. To get another 14 activity you will only need to make one post in the new period and you will then have a total of 42 activity.

P.S: His merit gained as fast as his activity.

Thank you for given links despite they are not exactly what I asked for help. However, it seems those links are not come from Andreas Annotopolous. Are contents of them as same as books were written by Annotopolous? I remembered I read an online version of his book that has same contents as hardcover version but I don't save that link so I lost it.
Those links are featured on Andreas M. Antonopoulos' github (https://github.com/aantonop). If you're still not convinced, buy the published version (https://aantonop.com/books/) and have a look for yourself. I have read all of them on my Kindle and they're identical.
