I like the little funky green alien you've got going in the sign-up box ;-)

164  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is my IP address really hidden? on: June 29, 2011, 11:52:52 PM
Your IP is not hidden except if you use TOR or a proxy. However, other nodes can only tell you are an active node. I believe they can't necessarily associate a particular transaction with your node/IP.

Some people need to use a proxy as their networks won't allow them to communicate externally using certain ports.

You could forward all your email to a Gmail account and let it sort out the ham from the spam. But once your email was harvested, there's no going back unfortunately...
166  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New to Bitcoins, having trouble getting them. on: June 29, 2011, 10:42:01 PM
there needs to be an easier way to purchase bitcoins.  the time and effort it takes discourages many people, slows growth and value.

Agreed. But getting funds from the old world banking system, where some transactions are reversible, is tricky. As bitcoin adoption grows from the techies to a wider audience, new exchanges will hopefully cater to this mass market and make it very straightforward to buy bitcoins.

BTW, thanks for the link to opencoin.org. Their document http://opencoin.org/Members/jhb/legal-report-published makes for a fascinating read.

I have 2 more Gigabyte 6990 cards used to sell, willing to accept bitcoin and the shipping cost is what ever the shipper quotes for your location.

Did you use to mine with these? If so, may I ask why you are selling them? Is mining not profitable enough anymore? Just wondering.

I've seen a similar service but I can't recall the name right now. Still, we need more services like these. Thanks for the effort!
171  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What to buy for Pro Mining (will donate for useful info) on: June 29, 2011, 09:33:39 PM
Check out videos on youtube made by miners. It'll give you an idea of their rigs and the surrounding setup required to keep them cool. If you are buying new gear specifically for mining, make sure you carefully work out your calculations based on expected future difficulty increases.

Ahh man Sad bummer . Thanks for the reply

Not surprising though as the machine, although expensive at the time, dates back from 1996 and its MIPS cpu was only around 150-250Mhz.
