...and wonder why the hell HF decided to screw their clients entirely...

That is because HF is using the SAPF business model.
162  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast BabyJet users thread on: February 23, 2014, 09:27:47 PM
Switched out the usb cord, replaced SD card and Rpi.  Clocked at 600 and changed pools. BTC Guild so far 1 Day 10 hrs. Up time.  Knock on wood the baby is now behaving, pool reports speed between 415 and 485 GHS.

I also replaced my Pi, power adapter and USB cable and it seems to have solved my instability issues so far. I have 3 days of uptime now (only one miner reset that automatically recovered) vs. the 24h hard reset issues I had previously. I have not been able to narrow it down to a specific component but I think replacing the rinky-dink 1A microUSB power adapter with a more solid 2A version did the trick.

Or you can take the long view and chill out.

165  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: How to upgrade TPLINK TL-MR3020 firmware to technobit openwrt on: February 22, 2014, 01:01:23 AM
Interesting! Will the technobit OpenWRT image with cgminer also work for ASIC products from other manufacturers like BFL, HF, etc?
166  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast announces specs for new ASIC: 400GH/s on: February 22, 2014, 12:24:51 AM
Anyway her linkedin profile now says "Seeking dynamic position within a well organized & professional atmosphere". So yes, she "left". Good catch.

I guess 'well-organized' and 'professional' are 2 things lacking @ HF.

My guess is that Eduardo is the one making all the poor business decisions. Probably employees at HF are just as frustrated as customers.
167  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: World's First Bitcoin Lawsuit - Cartmell v. Bitcoinica on: February 21, 2014, 06:56:15 AM
Does anyone know what the current status on this is?

The link to the case stopped working since the website has undergone renovation...
168  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast BabyJet users thread on: February 21, 2014, 01:01:24 AM
Maybe they will try selling the improved firmware to existing customers as a software upgrade?
169  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast BabyJet users thread on: February 20, 2014, 11:39:00 PM
I've been mining for the last 10+ days stable@ 470 Gh/s  with the old firmware on a Ubunutu 13.10 on Laptop w/Cgminer 3.09h2 , just can't get 3.12.3 to run like it was intended until the FW is out ,as per Ckolivas advice.  So put the RPi for FW updates and that about it.
Indeed, it's really bugging me that the firmware is still lagging behind the driver that I wrote for it...  Undecided

Also, looks like Scamfast will not release much anticipated firmware update due to the fact that they are going to "try" and get another product cycle out of 28nm golden nonce with an updated PCB motherboard and the updated firmware.  Shameless.
http://hashfast.com/shop/yolievo/

Yes, looks like it is exactly the same hardware. Perhaps they will cherry pick individual dies for performance. But the 800 GH/s Yoli claims seem to be based on their BS 'bench test' of 768 GH/s rounded up for marketing. Their deceptive marketing and unethical business practices make me sick.

Meanwhile my Batch 1 BJ is still buggy as hell, needs a reboot every 24h and manages 385 GH/s on a good day. And MPP? a bad joke.

Kudos to thecoder for his work on Namecoin and Huntercoin. May he rest in peace.

Any update on the firmware release?

+1

My BJ is still unstable. Needing a reboot every 48h or so. Cgminer 3.11 has proven to be the most stable so far but this baby(jet) sure is high maintenance. Hoping the FW update + cgminer 3.12 will resolve the stability issues.

MinePeon Version: 0.2.4.3hf8
Miner Version: cgminer3.11.0hf1
HashFast Firmware: ebaa1a85

The MPP cake is a lie. There is no "protection".
173  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast announces specs for new ASIC: 400GH/s on: February 15, 2014, 04:24:21 AM
They took gambles on us. When it did't go in their favor, they took the easy way out of things and we had to pay.

Yes, they decided to sacrifice the customers on the altar of their own greed. Talk about poor business ethics.

When the interests of the customer and the company are this misaligned I doubt they will be in business very long.

I wish all of those that decided to take legal action against HF the best of luck. Even though I took the easy way out by rolling over and accepting my losses I fully support those customers that are willing to the legal route to protect their consumer rights.

174  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast BabyJet users thread on: February 13, 2014, 02:19:33 AM
Guys, I asked about the upgrade kits and MPP and was told there were no MPP or upgrade kits ever offered in batch one.  So apparently just because your BJ system was batch one, doesn't mean additional boards would be in the same batch.

-Phil

I am NOT "shooting the messenger" (nor am I in Batch 1) but what they told you seems to directly contradict what is CURRENTLY posted on the Hashfast website MPP page:

"At HashFast, we understand that healthy, prosperous customers make for a healthy and prosperous company. We know that our customers are concerned about the rapid growth of the network hashrate – and we stand by our customers. We designed our silicon so efficiently per square mm, that we are able offer you this protection. If the Bitcoin network hashrate increases so that your Baby Jet doesn’t generate more Bitcoins in ninety days than you paid for it, HashFast will give you additional ASICs. In fact, we will give you up to 400% more hashing capacity than the Baby Jet you purchased. Yes, that does mean that if you don’t make your money back in 90 days, we will increase your mining capacity to up to 2 Terahashes! The Miner Protection Program™ was given retroactively to ALL purchases of Batch 1 Baby Jets. For second and third batch machines, the Miner Protection Program™ was offered as an add-on, that customers could purchase for an additional fee. Currently the Miner Protection Program™ is not available for purchase."

So, while they may not have been "offered" at the time of purchase, ALL Batch 1 orders should be covered by the MPP since they were "GIVEN RETROACTIVELY."

Or am I misunderstanding something?

Correct, that was the promise. This is the original statement from Oct 6:

Miner Protection Program™
We want our customers to succeed.

At HashFast, we understand that healthy, prosperous customers make for a healthy and prosperous company.

The Miner Protection Program™ applies to all customers of Baby Jets purchased from Batch 1 of our production. For the second batch, the Miner Protection Program™ will be sold separately.

HF should give a clarification on if/when MPP will ship. This is overdue. Doing ROI caculations without taking shipping time into account is nonsensical so it was somewhat implied that MPP would ship directly after the 90 day MPP window closed. This has not happened.
175  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast BabyJet users thread on: February 12, 2014, 12:08:45 AM
Logistics is not my area, but I think that the delay might be the cooling system.  Apparently the supplier sent cooling systems with hoses that are too short to fit the BJ chassis second radiator location, so there's no way to cool a second board until new ones arrive.  That's probably why there is a delay, but again, not my department.

While this might be true for the upgrades, it should not apply to MPP as those are just the barebones boards.
176  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast BabyJet users thread on: February 09, 2014, 06:12:56 PM
damn i feel sorry for you. If you want to get rid of a unit or 2 let me know id love to buy some. Assuming they actully work at 400 and its just the connection that is making them seem slow

This is just one unit and yes it works at around 385 GH/s at the pool. Whenever it reconnects it shows up as a new unit in cgminer but it is not. I'm hoping a software/firmware update will make it run as stable as my older ASICs from BFL and AM. (e.g. run and forget).
177  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast BabyJet users thread on: February 09, 2014, 05:31:34 PM
It might not have anything to do with your situation but I have had problems with Hashfast devices disconnecting from cgminer if the internet connection is disrupted. They would try to return but on the two occasions this has happened I had to power cycle everything to get it going again.

That might very well be the case. I am using Comcast Xfinity and their service is really flaky. Sometimes the internet connection drops completely for a minute or so before resuming. On the other hand, the BJ itself does not feel really stable either. It reconnects every hour or so:

178  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast BabyJet users thread on: February 09, 2014, 04:12:00 AM
I have firmware:735ccca5. I'm curious to see if anyone has a different version.

Same here 735ccca5

Mine is: ebaa1a85

I have not been able to get my BJ to run stable for over 48 hours. I need to hard reset it at least once a day. With each version of cgminer I have a different issue. The best one for me seems to be cgminer3.11.0hf1 but it seems to crap out at random intervals where mining stops and I am unable to ssh or load the web interface anymore. Hopefully new a firmware/cgminer combo will fix these issues as my warranty already has expired :/

Also there is a 7 degree difference between cores, so I might take Phil's advice and re-apply thermal paste. (Although the hottest core does not exceed 80C, so I don't think overheating is the cause if my instability issues)

Example – You buy a Baby Jet for 50 BTC, and we ship it on October 25th.  January 23, 2014 comes and goes, and it turns out that at the Baby Jet’s nominal hashrate, it would only have generated 25 BTC during that 90 day period.  Calculated out, it would have taken an additional 400 Ghash/s of capacity shipped with your Baby Jet on October 25, 2013 to generate 50 BTC. We can’t go back in time to give you that 400Ghash/s. Instead, HashFast will double that and give you 800 Ghash/s in additional capacity. In this example, HashFast will give you two additional Golden Nonce ASICs, each with 400 nominal GHash/s.

For those of you covered under the Miner Protection Program™ (https://hashfast.com/miner-protection-program/), this delay will not affect the starting point from which benefits are calculated. For First Batch Baby Jets, the start date of the program will be retroactive to October 30th. We want to make sure a delayed ship date does not reduce the value of the program.

Dear HashFast. I know it is much to ask and that Batch 1 customers are wholly undeserving of your attention. But how about that MPP... You know miner protection and all that jazz?

Here is my calculation:

  • Bought 1 BJ on Aug 8 2013 @ 60 BTC.
  • MPP kicked in on Oct 30 2013.
  • BJ shipped on Jan 24 2014
  • Total BTC generated during 90 day period: 0.382
  • Hashrate needed to ROI: haha. yeah. don't get me started.
  • January 29 came.. and went... *crickets*

Even 4x modules are not going to make a difference at this point. But it is the principle that counts.

HF beggared Batch 1 customers and beggars can't be choosers. So please kind sir can you spare a module?

Best, your most grateful customer.

I don't think anyone should be surprised to see extremely low (or no) divs until Gen3 rolls out.

The thing I worry about most is if FC is still 100% committed to AM or if he has developed a competing side-business that is unencumbered by external shareholders.

I know FC denied involvement. But the competitor similarities in hardware (Bitmain) and in mining behavior (Discus Fish) remain striking. So I feel we've only been told part of the story.
