161  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Never confirm attack? on: December 31, 2013, 01:21:57 PM
It would be nice for the standard client to have an explicit re-broadcast option.
162  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Have we hit the point of singularity yet? on: November 23, 2013, 02:01:13 AM
No, singularity would be when 1 BTC pays off the national debt and then some.
163  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: November 07, 2013, 11:17:52 AM
GOX just hit $305.00!

Hey for those that are bitching about ROI. Guess what. with bitcoin going up your machine has a better % of making that roi.. glee imagine that.  Shocked

Mt.Gox: Last price:$295.00 High:$309.99 Low:$255.55 Volume:56356 BTC Weighted Avg:$275.74

If you paid in dollars. You're right. Saved by the bitcoins. Hope it lasts. Smiley

Someone will be along to explain the other side of that soon no doubt lol

It's been explained so many times already, I'm not sure it's even worth trying anymore. Either you get it or you don't. Still, I am happy about the price increase though.
If I had only bought bitcoins when I couilda woulda shoulda instead of buying my miner .... I would have sold back for fiat the moment it went up 5%!
164  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon Store Batch 3 Status just went to "Refunded" on: July 18, 2013, 07:11:53 AM
I don't know but I love the google street view of the BitSyncom HQ http://imgur.com/27RLBf8
I own rental property a few blocks away from that house ... small world. Best investment I've ever made. People are paying a fortune to live in Sheepshead Bay.
165  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Simple argument for FPGA on: July 12, 2013, 12:08:25 PM
As to the https://www.cardreaderfactory.com/shop/lancelot.html reference, I see that we have equated clock rate with Mh/s.

I am not a programmer really but when I looked at the code for an open source FPGA miner I noticed that the code also aimed for a hash per clock cycle.  However FPGAs are capable of so many interconnects that clock cycles cannot always be directly compared.  I wonder if there is possibility for improvement there.  Was a 1 hash/cycle benchmark always the goal in FPGA designs?
No, it was just a convenient and symbolic benchmark. There was plenty of FPGA development in 2012. After the various designs improved and evolved it just turned out that the Spartan 6 LX150 with this particular bitstream ended up being one of the popular and cost effective combinations. It is already heavily optimized. It is not like you could just buy a different type of FPGA and quickly write something for it that would equal this in terms of cost and performance.

Edit: As far as possible improvements, I believe that it is still possible. But is it worth it to get 20% or maybe even 50% with all the new technology appearing at this moment?
166  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Recieved 50GH BFL Single Today! on: June 19, 2013, 06:19:48 AM
People also pay with Paypal so Bitpay records are kind of meaningless.

I don't believe Paypal was available the first few days. It was only Bitpay or wire transfer. I clearly remembered this because I'd wanted to use Paypal but was forced to do a wire and in the process my bank charged me $45. The Paypal option was added later.
167  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Are GPUs still relevant and for how long on: June 03, 2013, 05:17:46 AM
I'd like to see someone repurpose an FPGA that is already soldered on a board designed purely for SHA-256 hashing.

I doubt that is it would be cost effective (or even possible) for most miners unless they have hundreds of FPGAs and can contract out the work.
168  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where do you store most of your coins for long term storage? on: May 21, 2013, 01:38:55 AM
JPEG photos of a paper wallet, hidden amongst family and pet photo album archives. Even if you were staring the photo it wouldn't be immediately obvious there was a private key on it. I guess this could be regarded as steganography in its most basic form.
169  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon batch [2] countdown! on: May 20, 2013, 06:13:01 AM

Alt coins don't pay and FPGAs are no longer worth it since ASICS.

It is no longer cost-effective to BUY FPGAs. Running them is still OK.

Even the most power inefficient FPGA (the BFL single) is still worth it to run. For me it still makes around 10x the electricity it uses and my electric rates are pretty high.
170  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Announcement] Block Erupter USB on: May 11, 2013, 02:45:20 PM
I repeat again unless BTC rockets in price again, and it's holding steady under $120, you will never make an ROI on these.

The USD / BTC exchange is irrelevant, if you pay in BTC and you get your return in BTC, then it's just a matter of calculating in BTC. No USD or EUR in play here
While technically correct, I don't feel like it makes sense to compute ROI in terms of a base currency that is wildly fluctuating with respect to other widely used currencies. Even as more places accept BTC for payment, the number of gold bars/pizzas/loaves of bread that you can buy with BTC will still depend on the BTC/EUR or BTC/USD or BTC/whatever exchange rates.
171  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: When I add 2nd PSU it smeels like its catching on fire WTF!? BTC Tip for help! on: May 08, 2013, 08:02:12 AM
So by powering the riser with same PSU as mobo I should be good is what am gathering. Is this correct?
Yes, if it is a single-rail PSU.

You should also measure the power consumption of each PSU at the wall to see if the distribution of power is are what you'd expect. If you have uneven grounds you could end up having all the power to the rig being delivered by one of the PSUs.
172  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: No FCC or UL label on BFL's Jalapeņo on: April 28, 2013, 02:32:46 AM
Don't upset the apple cart.
173  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Rig for a friend .. opinions on: April 18, 2013, 05:38:42 AM
if you use a riser why purchase a case ?  Grin

He probably wants to jerryrig the third card in some location within the case away from the other two slotted cards.
174  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official CedarTec Topic - New ASIC [Scam?] on: April 15, 2013, 12:10:48 AM
On the picture of the PCB you posted - what are the through hole DIP chips, and why the heck would you be using through hole components:

For the retro 80's look, you can't beat DIP-16s.
175  Economy / Speculation / Re: Greed will catch up with you. on: April 08, 2013, 01:44:05 AM
Let me know when Pirate@40 starts a new investment opportunity!
Who needs pirate's 7%? A Batch 1 Avalon investment is currently returning an uncompounded 270% a week. Too bad you can't compound it ...
176  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: April 06, 2013, 06:58:50 PM
I have tried in /etc/config/cgminer to add a 4. pool -> with no influence...
If you do that you still need to modify /etc/init.d/cgminer to read the 4th pool parameters and add those to the command line when starting up the cgminer daemon.
177  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: I have applied for a refund from BFL Labs 03.April.13 (Refunded 05-April-2013) on: April 06, 2013, 06:07:39 AM
05-April-2013 Refund received in full.
So those people (or at least most of them) claiming to have not BFL received refunds are trolls?
178  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Survey about the status of Avalon batch 1 deliveries on: April 05, 2013, 11:57:56 PM
Received today order #2000007xx.

Thank you Avalon!
179  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Survey about the status of Avalon batch 1 deliveries on: April 01, 2013, 12:15:56 PM
I have an order id in the high 2000007xx (for 1 unit) which I have not yet received.

Location: US
180  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 2 ways to avoid transaction fees on: March 30, 2013, 01:27:58 AM
I just found the login to an old Silk Road account that had about 30 BTC in "change" that I'd left in there over a year ago.

If you are familiar with SR you'd know that they use 0 fee transactions for BTC withdrawals.

Well I decided to withdraw the now valuable coins back into my wallet but the Tx took almost 24 hours to get the first confirmation because there was no way to add a fee. Is that what you really want?
