Depends on the country I guess? Here local coffeeshops and smartshops (stores where you can buy drugs) do not want to use bitcoins, and if they would you I guess I can just trade with them.

That's a valid point, currently Gekko logs the start price and the end price, but doesn't calculate the % increase between the two (which you would have when doing a buy and hold). I will add this!


It does. You can configure the trading fee in the profit calculator part of the configuration. The default is 0.6% because the candles I prepared are from Mt. Gox.


On default Gekko starts out with 100 currency (USD) and 1 asset (BTC), but again this is based on the configuration. You can edit this in the simulation balance.

I will update the docs so this is clear without reading the configuration files.

Agreed and on top of that the key icon in a browser windows is a lot harder to forge. Either the machine or the server needs to be compromised (or the ssl cert needs to get stolen or something similar).

Also when you already provided your login details to a phishing site they can just fetch this bar from the real website I guess.

I do think the crisis is far from over but I don't think it will tear down the whole USD. A lot of market crashes happened already in recent history (since the twenties) and the USD is still standing strong. People need currencies and currently the whole western infrastructure is built on top of the USD.


I really don't know why that would be so much worse? Atleast they don't try to hide the torturing, media oppression, stasi like mass surveillance and true war objectives.

I agree that the US is not the center of the world, however the international currency of the world is USD.

If the USD were to collapse (which it won't) a lot of very scary stuff will happen in a lot of places where the USD is the main currency (mainly the US). Probably as bad as what happened around Katrina or worse. I think most of the local IT infrastructure in the US would not hold up. It's pretty hard to trade BTC without access to the blockchain.

As for the rest of the world I am not sure what would happen (assuming local currencies don't crash). I am assuming most parts of the internet will stay up.

Dit is wat er gebeurde met de meest volwassen en stabiele coin die er is. En nee dit was niet de eerste / enige keer dat dit gebeurde. Wedden dat er voor het einde van dit jaar weer iets is gebeurd met een van de 17 coins die jouw software ondersteunt? Ik ben het er volledig mee eens dat dit niet te voorspellen was, maar dit zijn dus precies redenen waarom je dus ook geen software moet verkopen met de belofte dat je geen verlies draait. Je zou de Black Swan eens moeten lezen als je er echt in gelooft dat dit een eenmalige gebeurtenis was die geen/nauwelijks impact op je winst heeft.


Verlies betekent dat de waarde van je bezit minder is geworden. Dit is wel degelijk gebeurd, of je de minder waardige coins nou zelf verkoopt of niet. Daarnaast is RSI net als EMA een momentum oscillator, dit betekent dat RSI trends voorspelt en geen rekening houdt met wanneer jij de markt in of uit gaat (en dus of je verlies of winst gaat maken). Je kan tussen de RSI en de buys/sells een profit checker inbouwen maar dan luister je dus eigenlijk helemaal niet altijd naar RSI. En dan voorkom je niet de kans dat de trend je tegen je keert.


Je blijft het verleden gebruiken om te voorspellen wat de markt in de toekomst gaat doen. Ik denk niet dat er per definitie betere indicatoren / algo's zijn dan anderen. Maar ik vind niet dat je de indicator waar je zelf in gelooft moet verkopen als zijnde waarheid met daarbij het bericht dat je geen verlies kan oplopen.


Ik snap nog steeds niet waarom je een product verkoopt als je zelf een manier gevonden hebt om zelf risicoloos oneindig veel geld te verdienen? Of heb je ook wel eens de kosten van de bot verloren?

Well I think you need to poll every registered user once every couple of minutes to check if the user has a new post, I don't even think you need the real thread as the single post contains info on the tip (for who is it and how much is it). But if you want to check once every 5 minutes and 1000 users are registered you are hammering the forum with more than 3 requests every second for 24/7. For 10k users that would be more than 30 requests per second.

If it scales you could try some tricks like trying to predict when which users will post new posts based on their stats page (and time settings).

Of course it will take some time before 1000 users have registered. But if you talk with the mods they can also let you know in advance when the forum layout changes so that your scraper / parser won't break when this happens all of a sudden (the bot cannot screw up with sending tips with wrong amounts / to wrong person imo).

Als ik het goed heb trade de bot op alle currencies die BTC-e / Vircurex ondersteunt (of kan de bot erop traden), naar mijn ervaring zijn vooral de jonge altcoins alles behalve stabiel. Ik zou de kans dat er niks gebeurt met currencies zoals FTC, CNC en TRC niet uitsluiten. Daarnaast als de bot had gekocht toen de Bitcoin op meer dan 200 stond dan was hij nu nog steeds aan het idlen. Ik weet de cijfers niet maar op deze manier zou ik het risico niet willen lopen.

Begrijp me niet verkeerd ik ben heel blij met zulke initiatieven, maar geld vragen voor een speculerende bot met de mededeling dat hij zichzelf toch wel terugverdiend vind ik niet eerlijk. En 1% winst per dag maken met in het ergste geval dat de bot "blijft hangen" (geen winst en geen verlies maakt) is echt te mooi om waar te zijn. Waarom vraag je uberhaupt nog geld voor je bot als je zelf risicoloos geld uit de lucht kan plukken?

Wel zo eerlijk om te zeggen dat je gokkende software verkoopt, die misschien geld verdient en misschien verliest.

Om toch nog even terug te komen op:


Als jouw bot middels RSI een buy adviseert en deze komt door je profit checker heen. En de trend keert tegen je na de buy dan heb je wel degelijk een transactie gedaan die tot verlies heeft geleid.

I don't want to hijack this topic, but if people can't use this bot because it keeps crashing everytime Mt. Gox returns an error: You could, for the time being (until there is a version that doesn't crash in a time where the API is unreliable), use one of many (for example free but more technical) alternatives that just asks Mt. Gox again a couple of minutes later when it encounters an error. I got a bot running non-stop for almost a month now (it started at 2013-05-30).

Ik vroeg me af hoe je omgaat met conflicterende adviezen, als ik het pdfje goed begrijp: Wat als de RSI een dalende trend voorspelt terwijl de huidige prijs al lager ligt dan de instapprijs (dus de profit is nooit hoger dan minimale profit)? Dan verkoopt de bot dus nooit terwijl de prijs de grond inzinkt? Dan doe je inderdaad geen transactie's die tot verlies leiden maar dan leidt het niet doen van transactie's tot alleen maar meer verlies..

Als ik het goed begrijp zit er dus geen stop loss in de bot, klopt dit?

Dit klinkt wel heel erg mooi voor een speculerend stukje software, kan je hier meer over vertellen?

MtGox is offering all trades through a google BigQuery database (not realtime data), Nitrous has written some python code that you can download which will download all those trades in a local (sqlite) database. I have written a small (nodejs) script that can calculate candles based on this local database (you can specify what dates you want candles and the candle size in whatever you like). If you want to use this you have to do a couple of dev things (signing up for google BigQuery, installing python, nodejs, running scripts from command line etc.)

If you are interested in MtGox candles in csv format you can download a lot of them directly in my topic.

I think more encryption is a good thing but it is in my understanding that the NSA, for example, stores all encrypted data it comes across. This means that if the encryption would be crackable in let's say 20 years from now, the data would still get compromised. Storage is getting cheaper and cheaper every day and the it does not look like the survaliance infrastructure is going away any time soon.

I am a fan for initiatives like these but keep in mind that crypto does not guarantee privacy.
