1601  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: mining specific motherboards anyone getting better hashes manufacturs make claim on: August 23, 2017, 12:56:36 AM
i read this article http://wccftech.com/asus-b250-mining-expert-crypto-mining-motherboard/
that promises a higher hashrate

You mean this graphic?

That's just claiming a higher TOTAL hash rate from being able to use 19 cards on the same rig. The 407 MH/s is also actually pretty low, since it's only about 21 MH/s for each card.

with 19 gpus on a single motherboard. the question is not the hashrate but where to find the power supply to push all those cards?

The motherboard comes with on-board support for three PSU's. One for each group of PCI-E slots.

Quote
To support such a large number of expansion slots, ASUS has divided the slots into three groups. Each group has its own dedicated 24 Pin ATX12V power supply which makes operations stable in multi-GPU use.

More trouble than it's worth to create and maintain. GPU's manufacturer's change memory brand depending on what's available. From my experience, the higher tier models have a better chance than the entry level cards in having better quality VRAM.
1604  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining Expanse or Monero is better than eth ! on: August 22, 2017, 09:11:51 PM
I've seen in whattomine that expanse and monero outdid ethereum right now in terms of profitability.

Anyone has idea how 580s perform hashing EXP? I'm kinda looking for a ballpark figure so I can put them in the calculator and see if it really is profitable VS mining ETH right now.

P.S. Dual mining eth+dcr right now. Last week doing SIA but the heck difficulty did to me, used to earn $2 a day, now $0.75.
i have rx 580 8gb and in eth + decred i had 29mh + 800h and with mining expanse + decred i had 30mh + 850h

With a RX 580 you should be getting 900-960 MH/s dual mining DCR. Try increasing the DCR intensity to 32.

Expanse is an Ethash coin, so it's the same hash you get for ETH. It's also at a lower epoch than ETH, so there is no Dag file hash drop and I believe it can also be mined with 2GB cards.
1606  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining Expanse or Monero is better than eth ! on: August 22, 2017, 08:09:30 PM
The best chance to maximize your profits from mining is to accumulate coins with good future potential based on the development roadmap and what they bring to the table. Mining the coins that everyone is mining because they are on the top of profitability for that day or hour is a shortsighted strategy, IMO.
i guess you can mine the top profitable coin at the time and buy a potential coin that you think it will grow, this is better than mining a low profitable coin with huge potential. don't you think?

The profitablly is based on if you were to sell coins you already have at that very moment. Altcoin markets change quickly. Just because a coin is at the top when you start mining it, doesn't mean it will be when you have enough coins to cash out. Unless you run a farm where you can accumulate lots of coins to where you can cash out quickly to sell and buy other coins, all of which also involves fees, then in most cases you would be better off mining the coins you what to accumulate directly. Even if it's slighlty less profitable ATM, which also means the difficulty will be lower since there are less people mining it.

so i was wondering if the claim that specific boards made for ming if they are actuaslly providing better hashrates or not and by how much

For the most part, the motherboard makes no difference in a cards hash rate except where a GEN 3 PCI-E slot *may* make a negligible difference from a higher bandwidth over a GEN 1 or 2 slot. Which manufacturer claims a better hash rate from using their motherboard? AFAIK, what the mining motherboards claim is a higher TOTAL hash rate from being able put more cards on the same rig and a quicker ROI from not having to buy more motherboards, CPU's, RAM, hard drives and cases to have more cards.
1609  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ETH Metropolis is coming, what to expect? on: August 22, 2017, 12:59:15 PM
You can expect the difficulty bomb to get ~30% worse on August 24th along with increasing block times and another difficulty ramp up on September 24th until the Metropolis release is pushed out, where the block times will go back to 15 seconds along with a reduction in the block reward to ~3 ETH.
1610  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ASUS B250 Mining Expert MB - 19 Cards! on: August 22, 2017, 12:22:34 PM
Because the AMD or Nvidia Driver limits you to 8 Cards.
So if you want to add 13 cards according to them you should add 8 of one type and 5 of the other due to the driver limitation of 8.

Or use a Linux based OS. Lot's of videos on Youtube with 13+ AMD or Nvidia GPU's running under smOS or ethOS.
1611  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [Question] RX570 Nitro+ mining 20mh/s with BIOS mod on: August 22, 2017, 04:13:12 AM
The 1750 MHz timing strap mod is only for cards with Samsung memory. I have a Nitro+ RX 570 4GB card with Hynix memory. I copied the 1500 MHz strap to the higher timings and get ~29 MH/s UBQ and 760 MH/s DCR dual mining. I use an overclock of 1150 MHz core clock 2075 MHz memory clock with a -96 mv undervolt and -10% power limit in Afterburner.

Hum... I tried flashing 1500 strap to the higher timings (even 2250) but when I OC my mem to 2000 on AB, the system crashes. Don't think it worked :S

If your cards has two sets of memory timings you need to copy the 1500 MHz timing from both sets. Use 1:1500 strap to replace all the higher frequency 1: straps and the 2:1500 to all the 2: higher frequency straps.
1612  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Unlimited power but low hardware budget. Equipment on: August 22, 2017, 04:03:37 AM
Ok that helps.  What are scrypt or other kind of coins?  Can the gpu's be programmed to mine scrypt or others?

You can mine just about any POW algorithms with GPU's. The problem with Scrypt coins is they haven't been profitable to mine with GPU's since ASIC's were developed years ago. Even with free power, you are still competing in an area where the difficulty is predicated by ASIC's and you won't be able to accumulate enough coins to make anything other than a few cents worth. With the cards in your budget, you can look at Ethash coins with a Dag size less than 2GB's, Equihash coins and maybe Monero as profitable coins to mine. You can also look at whattomine.com to get an idea what would be profitable with diffrent types of GPU's.

1613  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Unlimited power but low hardware budget. Equipment on: August 22, 2017, 03:42:35 AM
So I have access to unlimited power ( for at least 3 months ) but currently, I'm on a high fiber, low budget. I'm looking to get into mining like, not bit, but some that have some potential. Easy to mine, alternative cryptocurrency's.

I'm looking for hardware options for alternative coins and what type hardware that can be used to mine different types of coins

BTW I could probably scrape up 300-500.  And like I said power isn't really a issue.

Best you could do with that budget is to see if you can get some used HD 7850 or similar 2 GB cards for ~$60 and a used motherboard to mine UBIQ or Musicoin. The HD 7850 gets ~19.5 MH/s on Ethash. Only problem with 2 GB cards is you can't dual mine.

Beta drivers are still working alright but I dont think that its going to make much sense to continue mining ETH . Profitability is just too low

wot ? Keep your Eth until it reaches USD$1000.00 then.

Just wait until the ~30% ice age difficulty ramp up on 08-24. An average 6 card rig will make less than 0.5 ETH a MONTH!

Ice Age had been in place for many months!!! https://etherchain.org/charts/difficultyBomb

That's right and and on Aug 24th the difficululty bomb is going to get ~30% worse, in addition to increasing block times.

are you sure about the 30% ?

That was the info BBT gathered from the last Ethereum dev metting on 08-11.

Who will be the kind soul to test the effects of 17.8.1, the AMD new WHQL? My rigs are stuck in a rental.

As expected, the 17.8.1 driver DOES NOT incorporate the Dag epoch hash drop issue fix from the beta blockchain compute drivers. So at least for now, if you care about mining ETH, stick with the beta blockchain compute drivers. Mining UBIQ which is not affect by the epoch hash drop issue had no difference in speed between the two drivers.
1619  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: AMD Releases Driver for DAG Issue !!! on: August 21, 2017, 05:00:48 PM
I'd like to ask owners of rx 570 4gb. anyone has tested beta drivers on higher DAG epoch like #180?

I doubt wether mount 2 rx 570 rigs or one with gtx 1070

because rx 570 are 4gb model and maybe in future it will be too low to mine anything...

which would be your recommendation?

thanks in advance

The Dag size is not an issue for 4GB cards. Even 3GB cards will be OK until November 2018 and the Dag size won't reach 4GB until something like 2020. ETH will move to POS long before that.
