16001  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin, How Long Will It Last? on: February 13, 2015, 09:07:51 AM
As technology, Bitcoin will prevail.

As an asset / value... that's very hard to tell. The chance is still 50% - 50%. It may fall "tomorrow" or will start rising to the sky.

While the technology is something clearly wonderful and useful and a lot of smart people have seen that and will continue to see that, the commercial value is in the hands of the crowd, which is not actually reliable.

monero

what? did someone say something?

Yeah, I just wanted to not be the first to bring this into discussion.
And strangely, though both (BTC and XMR) prices are falling, usual people (not me) feel more confortable to work with BTC.
16004  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to hide your bitcoin? on: February 12, 2015, 02:03:02 PM
donation wallet => any crypto currency exchange (poloniex, bittrex, hitbtc, ... name it) => (trade) buy a stable altcoin with low transaction fees (dogecoin?) => transfer that altcoin to another exchange => (trade) that altcoin back to bitcoin => send it to your main wallet.

Why transfering back and forth to an altcoin?

Any other method has a chance to get to this:
Your Public Address => Intermediate (Exchange?) address => Your "private" address
which means it's not the private anymore.

With my method, from outside anyone will see:
Your Public Address => Exchange address => money spent.
Some other exchange address (altcoin) => Address for same altcoin on different exchange (nobody will track / care about that)
Some address nobody cares about (your BTC address on 2nd exchange) => Your private address (again, nobody will track that).

If you are a drug dealer or such, I just saved your butt, so I'd expect a generous tip. My public address is in profile.
16005  Economy / Speculation / Re: When will BTC again reach 400$+ on: February 12, 2015, 01:46:22 PM
I dont think it is a good time to sell right now, if your patient you can wait one more year until the blocks get halved. I'd imagine the price rise up afterwards.

I am quiet impatient. Don't know if I will be able to have these BTC in hand till the next year  Cool Grin

It's not good to be impatient when doing business. And sitting on Bitcoin is just a risky business.
From what I understand you "invested" more that you'd afford to lose.
And this means that whenever Bitcoin will go over your target of 400$, it will be "just" after you, impatiently, sold.

Nice surprise, thanks!
16008  Other / Meta / Re: Bipolarbob on: February 11, 2015, 06:02:01 PM
There was a guy here with the identification of bipolarbob, what happened to that guy and what was the idea behind what he/she does?

He is one of the most generous people around the forum => https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=343899
Some people wanted to feed their curiousity and foud out that he owns Bitcoins worth of 1 million dollar , still we cannot be sure that's the good about Bitcoin I guess "being annonymus"
Anyway , that user isn't active since January 21, 2015, 03:55:21 AM , But pretty sure he will come back , he always do Grin probably on an Alt account .

So there are actually good and generous people in here too? I'm almost shocked, but it's nice to hear.
With so many scam accusations and ponzi schemes, I start thinking that everybody became bad. Good to hear I was wrong.
16009  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin Solves a Problem of Economic Isolation in Iran on: February 11, 2015, 05:36:13 PM
It can be good work but I am scared if it becomes a general solution they try to find the ways to ban it.

They can't. They can't ban the internet of the whole world, and bitcoin and all the altcoins.
But they can limit the websites that trade bitcoin, the servers..., use proxy and close the ways of limit although it seems impossible to do this 100%

They can't make laws in foreign countries.
They can do some limitations. But not great. And if bitcoin is limited, next day an altcoin will take its place. Here and there somebody will accept their "money". If nobody else, then China or Russia will do.

16011  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Monero Economy Workgroup - The MEW Thread on: February 11, 2015, 03:17:21 PM
monerohub (.com?) sounds interesting to me too, but it may be even farther from the initial idea - support for MEW.

Also, as idea: voting for these ideas should be "checkbox based", not "radiobutton based" (I don't know how to explain better/easier). And the name with more points will "win".
Just.. yeah... this idea came a little late and may not be useful for current voting, for the main reason that the voting has already started with another "set of rules".
You mean a binary Instant-runoff voting? That is, several yes, but no ranking between the yes?

Wow, I didn't expect to see a wiki about voting! Yes, that's what I meant.

There is no voting in the community (the Drupal module advanced poll may allow the technical part of it, though). MEW uses First-past-the-post voting with weighted voting (Risto calls it "stake-o-cracy") and show of hand. Not this is is a MEW vote (so it doesn't apply here), just for information.

OK. (I am still impressed by so many info).

The most popular proposals are moneroeconomy.com, monero-economy.com and monero-mew.com, all ex aequo.
Now if we consider only votes after the final list (some people updated their votes, some did not so we don't know if they decided to stick with their choice or did not know about the new options) then we have moneroeconomy.com, with 4 "updated" vote
(all the othe have less "updated" votes - the closest contender is xmrmonero.com with 2 votes or 3 if we consider that smooth, being active here, just did not change his mind.

Reminder: community voting is consultative only - see it as a "primary". Internal voting at MEW will decide.

This clears up the things. And yes, MoneroEconomy.com may be better choice than monero-economy.com

16013  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Darkcoin Is Leading The Altcoin Race? on: February 11, 2015, 02:17:32 PM
For now it seems to be leading indeed. However, I am not convinced it's for real or it's only a bubble (though I've read the news too).
16014  Economy / Speculation / Re: Would I only have invested my money in... on: February 11, 2015, 02:05:55 PM
The only thing that comes quickly into my mind is Swiss Franc. Which I knew of and I knew it will rise someday.
I didn't know of BTC 2 years ago so it would be unfair to pick it.
16015  Economy / Speculation / Re: Was that the bottom ? on: February 11, 2015, 01:35:44 PM
Any thoughts?

The chance to get to 0.01$ is the same as the chance to go to 100,000$.
This being said, though I hope for BTC to grow, and do that fast, I still think that we may be far from the bottom and bad days will still come.
16016  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Community Test on: February 11, 2015, 01:32:12 PM
Tomorrow I will post the private key for a wallet holding 10 BTC.

Then, I will check the balance after ten days.

That will tell me if this is a community I want to be a part of.

Unless this is trolling (these days such claim is more likely to be trolling, but I'll assume it's not), for your own good, 0.1 or even 0.01 BTC will do the job.
If you will publish the private key in plain, with no tricks / puzzles, you can check back in minutes, it will be already emptied.

Minutes? You are being generous, I say someone already coded a small script to watch this post history for any private key string and transfer all the coins in a glimpse Cheesy

If I would still not believe that he's trolling, I would make that script myself.
10 BTC is a great prize for some 1-2h of work (that much because I lack experience on this yet).

16018  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Transaction not confirmed on: February 11, 2015, 01:02:46 PM
Afaik 0 fee means:
With some luck, it should be processed in 3-5h.
With a lot of bad luck, it could take even 3 days.
16019  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency - 0.8.8.6 on: February 11, 2015, 01:01:13 PM
Monero's 1 year birthday is approaching on April 18, 2015. How do you guys want to celebrate?

I hope that viewkeys will finally work by then and I'll be able to check now and then my small amount on a paper wallet.
And maybe I'll keep some BTC from sig campaigns and buy even more XMR exactly in 18 April.

Dogecoin halvings and birthday used to be tipping partys on reddit. But I don't think that we (will) have a tipbot. Also the community on reddit is much much smaller.
