16061  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin miners are now losing money on: March 19, 2018, 01:24:25 PM
More or fewer miners will have no impact on the supply... Bitcoin will always be generated at more or less every 10 minutes, whether there's 1 miner like when it all began or thousands like they are now. Tired of the bear move? You've got to get more stamina into you.

No impact on the supply, because of the difficulty adjustment? Fair enough, I believe that's a good point.

More stamina, I would love to have that! Been trading crypto for two years and I was getting used to seeing mostly green and making profits, but lately it's all red and losses. I'm just not used to this bear market I guess, it takes my energy, I can't think straight. Practical advice is always appreciated Smiley

Not really a good point... just the way Bitcoin's supply mechanism has worked every since the first block was mined all those years ago! I think the point here is that the mining "industry"'s impact is overthought. The mechanism's been in place for a decade now and has proven to be very well thought out. Dynamics have changed, pricing has also caused that dynamic to evolve, but bitcoin supply is on an extremely predictable trajectory.

Stamina: yes. You've been here two years, that's actually longer than I have. I'm very used to the volatility, and recognise that I've been here a fraction of the time of the early adopters. It's a long, long ride, to a finish that none of us will be alive to see. So relax!
16062  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk English Premier League pool betting Discussion Thread on: March 19, 2018, 12:39:05 PM
I had 3-0 down for that game as well. Looks like I only got 20 points from these four games. Anyone do any better?

20 points for me too. I had Liverpool 3-0 , 3-1 Bournemouth, draw Crystal Palace and a narrow 1-0 Stoke win. Liverpool did the last goals in the last minutes but that is very common in the premier league.  Now we should wait until 31 March for the upcoming games of the premier league.

Feels nice to do better than the current leaders... though 70 points on you guys isn't going to do much with the gap I still need to cover to reach Top 5. Just realised now also that the next games are two weeks away (what anguish!), but I've already logged in to BBC to enter my predictions. I'm going for mostly away wins, two shock draws for the Manchester teams and a Chelsea victory over their London rivals. Lots of days in between to change my mind, but I'll probably just let them ride.

P.S. Guys, I'm thinking of doing a World Cup mini pool with a knock-out/survivor format... would any of you be interested? A quick one-month competition with only the last one(s) standing winning the pot.
16063  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Hitting $91,000 By March 2020 - Tom Lee, Fundstrat Global Advisors on: March 19, 2018, 12:13:35 PM
It's unusual to find a positive outlook for Bitcoin in the mainstream financial media these days but Forbes has published some research by Tom Lee, Fundstrat Global Advisors (link to article). The projection of $91,000 by March 2020 is based on what happened after each of the previous 'bubbles burst'.

They also recommend focusing on the main currencies as they see a shakeout of the 1,500 plus cryptos around at the moment.

There'll always be thoughts on both sides of the great divide - but yes, it is good to see some attempts at maintaining objectivity amongst the current trend of selling what sells. Pretty decent research, if you believe in the bubble comparison, but I tend to see less and less resemblance now. Bitcoin's continued resistance (yes, I actually think its ability to maintain this price under intense pressure says a lot about its resilience and growing imperviousness to bubble optimism) says a great deal about what we could expect if things actually start going well for Bitcoin.

And that shakeout can't happen soon enough. This is the first year of many roll outs and product completions by all those ICOs from last year. I expect the majority of them to prove themselves to be the vapourware they are.
16064  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-03-18] Tokyo Whale Stopped Selling; Will Bitcoin Price Increase? on: March 19, 2018, 10:13:59 AM
It might have contributed to a market that was bound to correct significantly anyway, but people shouldn't ignore the lower overall demand, and that was the main reason the price was going down. Currently as I type the price jumped back to over the $8000 level again, which might confirm that the market was oversold, especially so if you look at how long the market has been going down -- it can't and won't continue endlessly like that. This market has various phases it moves in, and when certain indicators come together nicely, I pull the trigger and either open or close positions, and that's what I did today, and I'm happy with it.

I pointed this out in the speculation section yesterday.

My short term prediction is that the bottom of current downward spiral is slightly above the $7000 level, so if we end up reaching any level close to $7000, that for me would be an instant buy. In other words, we'll set a new bottom above the previous bottom, and that indicates growth, regardless of how you look at the market.

I bought back in slightly under $7400 and look forward to a solid increase from this point. My current short term prediction is +$9000 levels before the end of the next week.

Good point in overall lower demand. I recall two weeks back there being quite a lot of enthusiasm in trading channels when buy orders increased for the first time past $10k, amd even picking up pace towards 11k, which seemed to indicate that the appetite for bitcoin had returned. The failed breakout put an end to that and we're back to a market that seems to have had its fill.

Those who support the Mt Gox trustee effect will say that his sells alone have satiated all those demands, but it doesn't make sense that they wouldn't buy back in at current levels.

Fatigue should take hold this month, psychologically, traders will want to strengthen up buying support to clamber out of this hole. Every week below 10k will mount that pressure. I'm also banking on this new week ending above 9k, though I'm actually thinking 10k will be the Sunday target.
16065  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Your favorite stablecoin?? on: March 19, 2018, 09:32:29 AM
Won't be the first crypto/token to attempt a pegged currency. Tether's dominance might have showed the way to all these projects but its spectacular failings should also present a strong case for saying that they simply don't work and cannot be sustainable.

Volatility is probably something that can't be avoided with something so new. It will take many, many years for bitcoin to mature as a "store of value" - this volatility will always be there for as long as the majority of bitcoin and crypto users continue to see it first as an investment asset and as a speculatory trading commodity. The same patterns can always be seen with new currencies. I myself was very familiar with using one of the world's newest fiat in the South Sudanese pound. It was enforced as a means of payment but ultimately fell victim to trading speculation, with people still preferring to use other currencies, even preferring bartering to paying/receiving it.

16066  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: UPDATE! G20 CURRENT REGULATORY STATUS on: March 19, 2018, 07:31:40 AM
Not a bad list of updates, I know that most, if not all of that information is already known so status quo is maintained. What the G20 outcomes would really have impact if some of these countries changed their stances, or if any would form cooperative partnerships - that would affect the way cross-border commerce with crypto.

To me ICO prohibition means very little to Bitcoin itself, it's hardly even used by ICOs anyway. If anything, fewer ICOs should stunt the current proliferation of nonsense tokens... yes it would mean a halt to the global crypto market cap, but we all know it's been a rubbish metric anyway. Worst case scenario, it goes into negative growth, but bitcoin retains or even recovers some of its domination (again useless metric but psychologically positive).
16067  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2016/17 on: March 18, 2018, 08:33:10 PM
Christ, what a bad showing from Athleti, even needed Griezmann's penalty to make the score look more respectable. And did they have to go get the red card in the last minute too? I know they're doing well in Europa, but this isn't exactly the best way to make Barca fight for their title. It's all slipping away for the underdogs this season, 11 points is too much too far to catch Barcelona.

P.S. Real Madrid tied 1-1 at home almost at the halfway mark. Whoever thought losing Neymar would only have served to make them Barca even more dominant?
16068  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin miners are now losing money on: March 18, 2018, 03:37:21 PM
First of all, bullshit. Bitcoin price alone has been profitable ever since it was at $1k or so, and yes hashrate has been doubling every step in move with the price, and it's still profitable now. This isn't even taking into account all the alts they're merge mining. Are miners trying to rake in some pity? Not likely. They're just trying to make it seem like they're less of the bad guys some of them are.

One could imagine that, because some miners will stop mining, the market will get flooded with BTC less quickly. This might increase demand because there's less supply. Who knows how all of this is gonna play out.

To be honest, I hope the entire market will show a slow upward trend again soon. This long bear move is tiring.

More or fewer miners will have no impact on the supply... Bitcoin will always be generated at more or less every 10 minutes, whether there's 1 miner like when it all began or thousands like they are now. Tired of the bear move? You've got to get more stamina into you.
16069  Economy / Economics / Re: Determinants of bitcoin price movements? on: March 18, 2018, 11:53:02 AM
That's the thing, though. Everything we know about Bitcoin now is marked only by an almost 10-year history. That's an incredibly small timeframe to work with, limiting analysis (which is why every TA seems to be good for only as long as it's debunked by the next swing). Every insightful article we read is hindsight. From regulations, to Mt Gox trustee selling off now being the main scapegoat... the thing people need to accept is that we can't predict where it'll go.

Even all these AI platforms and machine learning have limited success, if any. Those that dare to do live sampling of their calls are now finding that even the last two months are showing them up.
16070  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bittrex want to steal money of customers ! SCAM ALERT ! on: March 18, 2018, 09:08:47 AM
How is it I didn't get that alert?
[...]
I too got this email notification but luckily I don't have any of those coins in my account.
[...]
You got or you didn't? "too" and "got" seems to contradict in your statement.

I have not receive an email notification about wallet removal same as @buwaytress, but I believe all users should have been notified regardless if they have those coins in their account or not.  Undecided

Yeah, I was saying I never got any notifications from Bittrex, ever, about wallet removals. As I stated, I've only been affected once when they delisted 1stblood, and I only found out about it when I was just doing manual spring cleaning, the wallet icon had an alert next to it (exclamation mark) and only after hovering over it did I see it was about to be delisted. Sold it all off 4 days before the deadline.

Who would be willing to hold those scamcoins anyhow? It looks like Bittrex is really doing you a favor by encouraging you to let them go lol.

Since when do exchanges do us any favours? They list coins for a huge fee, so if you think about it, they're doing the community a huge disservice by listing those damned coins who can afford to pay.
16071  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk English Premier League pool betting Discussion Thread on: March 17, 2018, 07:08:35 PM
You can sniff @2.39 by betting on Liverpool to win & both teams to score.

Nah, I know Liverpool don't have the most inspiring defence, but Watford doesn't exactly have the most prolific strikers either. Anyway, Salah scored his first hattrick just right now, taking away my 40 points from my usual 3-0 predictions. They might as well just score another 2 or 3 and heap on the goals.

I did well today with the few matches, will end the day with 90 points. Turns out I was right with both 2-1 victories for Everton and AFC, wrong about the Crystal Palace draw. Guess we know who's in team of the week for EPL. Hearts Salah finally leading goalscorer!

16072  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bittrex want to steal money of customers ! SCAM ALERT ! on: March 17, 2018, 05:20:05 PM
How is it I didn't get that alert? Come to think of it, I don't recall ever getting alerts about delisting coins, I even had to sell off all my 1stblood coins last week when I suddenly noticed that the wallet had gone offline and I just traded them at the nearest buy offer. Not that it was anything more than a funbag among many funbags I seem to obtain every now and then.

On one hand, we all know the risks of holding coins on exchanges. And we know even better the risks of holding some of these "shitcoins". I would say, though, that as long as exchanges get away with it, they'll be happy to continue doing so. Can you imagine all the "dead" coins guys like Bittrex must be holding? Imagine if, like others have, these dead coins suddenly get a revival years from now. Think they'll ever give the coins back?

Also, lesson to alts that show off successful listing on Bittrex. I recall late last year they charged $10k for a 3-month listing fee. Maybe some projects just thought to pay that fee, do their pump and then forget all about it.
16073  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: a lot of FUD, here is some good news on: March 17, 2018, 02:46:50 PM
How is good news that BTC mining is banned somewhere or that Facebook is banned cryptocurrency ads and Google will do the same? For the average user this would be considered as bad news. Also nothing connected with Wall Street is not good for cryptocurrency, their philosophy related to money and world order based on centralized currencies is exactly the opposite of what it represents BTC.

Your last two links are identical and some things are changed from Jan 1, 2018 especially regarding BTC cards,BitWala card (Visa) is suspended for months as well as all others.Still it is nice list to see where to spend BTC.

Can't speak for OP or the content of the news, but any sort of retardation of the mining industry's growth, which I feel is still too fast, motivated by quick profits and outpacing actual adoption, is somewhat of good news to me. Think mining needs to be brought down from its highly centralised, highly corporate monopolies.

On FB and Google, the crypto-related ads I've seen have very, very little to do with actual crypto development. Half of the ads are outright scams and HYIPs, the other half ICOs for the most dubious projects ever to have graced my browser pages.

But yes, on the same page with you re Wall St. Big banks and big money loving crypto just stirs something really foul-tasting.

Anyway, loving this FUDing. Helps me amass more.
16074  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: March 17, 2018, 12:27:40 PM

The point difference between Chelsea and Liverpool is 4 points. There is still a chance for Chelsea to overtake Liverpool as long as they can maximize the points in the remaining eight games and hope the top teams, especially Liverpool, to stumble in their matches.

Tell you what, eight games is 24 points. Forget Chelsea alone, even Arsenal have a chance to turn their season around. Apart from City, who seem to have found a formula for consistency, every team in the top 6 or 7 have been struggling to maintain form, every one of them are stumblers. Even Liverpool who matched City in January for most points gained now find themselves in a rut of their own doing. Funny how one game changes everything!

Five matches today, most of television will be tuning in to FA Cup where the good bets also are. Remember upsets are what that cup is all about so I won't mind betting small on draws there.

Liverpool should make the gap 7 points temporarily, meaning Chelsea have that mountain to climb for 3rd place... Conte and co are battered but Willian will carry his team for the rest of the season.
16075  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Winklevoss Brothers propose Virtual Commodity Association (self-regulatory org.) on: March 17, 2018, 09:55:10 AM
I'll be honest and say right off that this is probably out of my depth - got little understanding of how regulation would or should work with these, but am aware of several bodies already attempting self-regulatory models, all related to cryptocurrency and/or blockchain, depending on their definitions. We've got Croatia's UBIK just last month, I think also one in Gibraltar - both EU centric. We've got China-based "Int Digital Asset Exchange Council" (idaxc.org) who made clear some motives for self-regulation at the last World Economic Forum (not as well as it could have been, in my regulation-illiterate opinion!).

But to be honest, I'm with Patatas here, even if only for the simple reason that I'm not comfortable with all these players trying to take charge. I think we really need to rethink a lot of the things we're doing. Do we really need to comply with a structure we don't agree with?
16076  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk English Premier League pool betting Discussion Thread on: March 17, 2018, 09:18:59 AM
Welcome back to Week 31 guys! Looks like a really sleepy Saturday, to be honest. I'm not even that thrilled that Liverpool's playing (still somewhat numb from last week's loss to our old friends Utd). I'm going for slightly dull results as well, hoping that the mood and weather, compounded with lethargy for all the teams in the final week will lead to 1-1 and 2-1 results. As usual, backing pool to hit 3 past Watford with no reply.

@hilarious: well done on regaining top spot. You've been making really good calls of late, well deserved!

Not that it matters here, but I sense at least 1 full-time draw result for either Spurs or United, that's where my betting is. Can't believe you'd have to bet Liverpool's game over 4 goals just to sniff odds above 2.0!
16077  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Jaxx Wallet and Bitcoin Wallet Security Issues on: March 17, 2018, 08:44:27 AM

They themselves do not recommend Jaxx as a long-term storage or for large amounts, so if the developers don't think it's a good idea, I don't think we should either.
I don't think they meant that.Do you have any direct links I can refer to support your comment ?

Sure! The Reddit link I provided above is a direct response from Jaxx CTO (Vyas). I'll quote parts of it below.

Quote
As a hot wallet we believe we have found an appropriate balance between ease-of- use, portability, and security.

This comment is their way of saying they can't find a way to engineer the appropriate security levels without compromising ease and portability. They admit to the flaw (never denied it) but say this is a necessary trade off.

Quote
Jaxx IS NOT cold storage. For large amounts we recommend hardware wallets.
Quote
Until that time, please use Jaxx as a hot wallet for small amounts, and use hardware wallets for larger amounts.

This is the developer saying don't use Jaxx for cold storage or large amounts. Pretty sure they mean exactly what they say, unless I didn't understand what they were trying to imply.
16078  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin HODL'er: An Idea for Making This An Extreme Online Sporting Event! Poll! on: March 16, 2018, 06:31:50 PM
I gave a merit because this thread is quite entertaining. Would've given more but I hate double spacing! Cheesy
Been in the holding game for a couple years and I'm always amazed at how it can drain me every time the price goes down. I know that the coin is still worth a couple times more at its new bottom than it was a year ago, but it still hurts me to see it fall. I had days when I woke up, turned on the PC, saw the price, and all I wanted to do is go back to bed and wake up when it's over. That's what I call the beginning of a great day, when you haven't even drank your morning coffee and you're already mad at everyone and everything.

Right on, I know there'll always be those who treat these kinds of threads with disdain, but when I first properly "came onto the scene", it was partially because of the old threads I used to see... early adopters were a pretty relaxed bunch of people IMO, reminiscent of the mid 1990s chatroom scenes. Even the thrash talk was somewhat... friendly.

Only a year and a half of hodling experience here (and even then, not quite the stash I'd have wished for) but I think there ought to be some kind of experimental study on this holder mentality and the entire experience. I'm certain there's a lot we take for granted.

That all said, extreme sports is all about adrenaline. And I think stock brokers sweat a hell lot more than crypto holders. I mean, unless you bought in at Dec/Jan, of course. Everyone else pre-2017 are still sitting on a lot of unrealised profits.
16079  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Europa League/Champions League Lounge on: March 16, 2018, 05:19:22 PM
AC Milan thought they had the better of Arsenal for a few minutes, when Calhanoglu scored a goal well into the first half. Nobody in the Arsenal team thought it would be a good idea to close him down, inviting him to go for the goal which he duly converted. Unfortunately for AC Milan, Danny Welbeck  got a penalty after being brought down in the box. Arsenal and AC Milan are at 1-1 going into the second half.

Regardless of the controversial enough penalty, the second half did not go so well for AC Milan, and eventually they had to lose by aggregate quite a landslide. The proof of AC Milan is against a great team and in fact they are not playing so well against a great team like Arsenal.

the penalty (nonexistent foul) has affected the result.
Ac Milan did a good match and also had his chances for a resounding comeback.
Without Aubameyang and with Lacazette injured Arsenal has little chance of winning the Europa League.

Yeah man! At 2-1 down, Arsenal had every chance of collapsing and the way Welbeck dived... Yes he did... Perfectly demonstrates just how fragile they are as a team. Gattuso cut such a sad figure... He said before the match they could play with "tranquility" strange coming from one of the last genuine bulldogs of his era.

Anyway, as usual, Europa didn't do me favours. Lost the Dortmund bet, gained the Athletico ML win luckily, but still ended up with a slight 0.2 stakes loss.

Always said Athleti were my favourites. One last hurrah for Torres, please!
16080  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-03-16] AMF (French) Blacklists 15 Cryptocurrency And Crypto-Asset Websites on: March 16, 2018, 03:42:50 PM
This is just so remindful of bureacratic machines wasting their time without proper knowledge of cryptocurrency. If there's a government job that pays me to list out hyip sites for PSAs, I'd love to have it. I can give them 15 sites every week with an hour's work.

That list is nothing but HYIP sites/ponzi schemes, just dressed up as cryptocurrency investments. Didn't even need to check them out (I still looked at three) to see from their names that they're all right and proper crap. Every single one of these HYIP sites already contravene OLD regulations, nothing to do with the new enactments as the news article mentions.

Instead of giving advice to people about investments, they should tell people: guys these are scams, here's how to tell: A, B, C.

Hi, everybody.France has made 15 crypto resources in the black list. What kind of 15 companies were included in this list?

Maybe if you actually bothered to read the news item, you'd see the exact names and website links in the press statement: http://www.amf-france.org/en_US/Actualites/Communiques-de-presse/AMF/annee-2018?docId=workspace%3A%2F%2FSpacesStore%2F3f85fe88-fc1f-45b8-a55e-0bc5aeb298ce&langSwitch=true
