think I'm going for this one, even if I do not need 10 ports yet, and UK is close so that's fine

how much gridseeds would I be able to plug in there?

would be nice to add the difficulty of the coin in the chart

$1.00 per Kilo Hash to get 800KH/s performance

 Grin

Again with your random shit masked as facts.

By your logic people should have been buying R9 280X for $750 and R9 290 for $900, it was nowhere near that price point even at the height of the boom.

More realistically you would have paid $0.5 or less per KH/s, including all supporting infrastructure - motherboards, risers etc.

If someone was stupid enough to pay $1.0 per KH/s of GPUs then the same kind of people would be buying Gridseeds on eBay for $350.

I love Gridseeds for their relative simplicity, price however is not their strength. Especially with the recent drop in GPU prices.

Just to throw it out there... that $1 per KH/s must also include your supporting infrastructure as you mentioned... mobo, RAM, CPU/HSF, HDD/SSD/USB depending on how you are running them, PCIe extensions, the 1200-1600W PSU you need to run 4+ cards if you are doing so and all the extra connectors you need to run cards that require more than a single 6 pin PCIe power connection.

A single 800+ KH/s GPU running $500 - $750 still needs $100+ just for a basic mobo/CPU/RAM/BOOTDISK/PSU and that's cheaping out... you can easily reach +$200 for a base PC to run the GPU... and more if you want to run a multi GPU rig.

Tell me where I can get an 800 KH/s rig for $400 ($.5 per KH/s) and I will delete this post.

Hell the highest noted GPU on the scrypt litecoin comparison wiki is the Sapphire Tri-X 290X at 1002 KH/s and that's on Newegg for $750 right now and is noted running at 385W. A new setup could easily run $1000 to get that 1 MH/s running stable, whereas $1000 will buy you 3 gridseeds, a Pi, PSU, barrel jack connectors, a powered USB hub and some sort of case to put it all in, gives you a MINIMUM 1150 KH/s AND only runs a total of ~30-35W max in scrypt mode including hub and Pi. Compare the GPU rig running ~500W total to a 35W 3X gridseed/Pi and still get 15% more hashrate for 1/14th of the power cost... and probably still have funds left over. For $.10 per kWh that is ~$400 a year less in cost of power. So while you may be able to resell that GPU for $400+ next year... that only brings you to break even with the gridseed setup... before the extra 15% hashrate is included.

That was very interesting.

I don't think script coins will dissapear, there will always be people making pump and dump coins.

Little question about USB hub, what's a good usb hub than can hook up to the laptop and work with the gridseeds, I've heard some hubs have issues

For those still looking for power cables that work with gridseeds, I have adapter cables that power 1, 2, or 3 gridseeds using your PSU's 4-pin MOLEX power connector.  I test all the cables with my own gridseeds first and guarantee them to work.

Check them out here:

I was going to tell you to buy some shrink tubing, but I see that someone already did on your post

I wish here it was that price, I'm paying 0.17$ and that's ex taxes and a whole bunch of other robbery.

so to get this cost effective would need to start right away with 10 units? or less will do?

I think even $0.17 is still in favor of GPU. I calculated a breakeven point a couple of weeks ago, and it was somewhere around $0.25 per kWh to make it worthwhile to replace all my GPUs with Gridseeds, but that was of course based on my assumptions about future profitability, exchange rates, ASCI development etc. YMMV.

like I said 0.17$ is ex taxes so after all that the price would be around 0.28$kw

let's keep the discussion cool, I liked the gridseeds also for their kind and helping community here  Wink

160$ for 500khs but without board, power supply and accessoiries etc.. plus at least 60w of power per gpu

true a gridseed is a bit expensive but it comes complete ready to hook up, that's nice.

like always the pro / con discussion hehe   Grin

So I'm really planning to go Gridseed, but want a to be certain to make the good move

on alot of other forums/chats they dont seem so hot about the Gridseed's saying that they are too expensive

and that a GPU will be better because it can be sold again etc etc etc..

But what I like the most is the low watt usage as kw/h here in spain is so high! I cannot see myself using a 1000w rig

I do have to reckon that our gridseeds will be more difficult to sell especially when difficulty rises, and if maybe a new gridseed comes out.

what is you guys realistic opinion?

Right now, it is marginally profitable with GPU, but totally profitable with Gridseed. Prices on GPU's are coming down because of the lack of profitability.

Yes, GPU's will retain some of their value, but when everyone is selling ...

If you have more than $2,000 to invest, then Gridseed is definitely the way to go. There are serious power and cooling issues when you try to scale up with GPU rigs.

My first miner was a GPU rig, since I already had most of the equipment, and only needed to add a gpu. I figured it was a cheap way to get a high end graphics card. I could not find a path to putting together more GPU rigs. Due to power and cooling constraints, Gridseed is the only way I can add more hashing power.

Thanks, yes I also have the problem with power being very expensive where I am, so looking at how much a gridseed uses is a big +

what would be the minimum amount of miner units to start with ?

Hey all,

This is my first post here. This thread (and a few others) have been really helpful to me getting 24 gridseeds running on windows 8.1. I wanted to say thanks to all contributing. I have also been searching for a decent #gridseed irc. Not much luck so far, the rooms are small, quiet and/or specific to a store that sells gridseeds. So we started #gridseedmining on freenode.net to share info, specs, builds, tips tricks and workarounds. We'll see if it picks up any popularity.

Anyways, thanks again. Hope to see you all in the channel. #gridseedmining FTW!

Im still looking for a way to get Windows to see these devices. I downloaded the recomended cpuminer from page 1, but the devices don't show up in the device manager under windows. Are there any tricks to getting Windows to recognize these as USB devices?

I went with cgminer 3.7.2 for gridseed listed here:
http://cryptomining-blog.com/1262-download-cgminer-3-7-2-for-windows-scrypt-mining-on-gridseed-5-chip-gc3355-asics/

and followed the instructions to replace the drivers. There are some quirks, though, as others have mentioned. You have to plug in or enable the miners AFTER you start cgminer, and occasionally the quit returning shares and you have to start the miner over. I'm going to try bfgminer too.

maybe use bfgminer instead? does not need the replacement of any driver

When you think about 'reinvesting' with bitcoin mining you should calculate carefully that the yield after reinvesting will actually be more than the yield you were getting initially.
Because of the difficulty changes.
Just to be absolutely sure your principal stake is not actually slowly shrinking.
This gets confusing, at least for me.
Just pointing something out to you. Might be important.

Oh, hey, i make big mathematical errors sometimes, so try to double check anything i say before you act on any of it.

Yes you are right, it's good to think about this!
1632  Economy / Services / Re: PB Mining -- 5 year mining contracts! on: March 17, 2014, 05:56:40 PM
PB suggestion,

saw this in an early post and think it's a great idea "reinvest" option to put profit into GH/s
1633  Economy / Services / Re: PB Mining -- 5 year mining contracts! on: March 17, 2014, 05:37:30 PM
Hey buffalo, i just got the one i bought using your referal, did you get the 1/10 share?

i also bought an antminer s1 today ill keep you updated as to how it works, or if,
if i am able to set it up, that is, lol, never tried before and dont know anything about routers/isp/mac address/ or any of that stuff..
i hope it pays for itself, and the psu.

guess i check the blockchain tonight to see if i won 5 shares or even 20
just because its always fun to win.

I would aslo be very interested to know how much you get in return with this antminer.

I think it wont be too much of a hassle to set up, even if I'm also a noob in setting those things up, I'm going to try an Gridseed dual ( with the fan )

Keep us updated on how it went, the pool you are using, and your kw price and all so that we get a good idea Wink
1634  Economy / Services / Re: PB Mining -- 5 year mining contracts! on: March 17, 2014, 04:06:53 PM
And voila,

Like I said in a previous post, very happy with PB so I just made a payment for 25GH/s

PB payment is processing and you'll have customer 3608 payment soon Wink

Yes we cycle the addresses.  That one is ours.  Smiley

First adress was faster  Grin

But i remember  it said before " please allow up to 12 hours the GHS arrive in you portfolio"" (or something like that)

that text is missing now...

it still says allow 12H to process, it's written in the checkout  Wink

Hi, Im not a Spaniard, but I live and am fully registered with a business in Spain.
Could I claim the Spaincoin?  Grin

in a month

Cool I'm also not a Spaniard but I am living there full time

P2pool (RO)

http://international.servehttp.com:25490/static/
http://international.servehttp.com:25490/static/status/

126.3% efficiency

Recommended Settings:

cgminer --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://international.servehttp.com:25490 -u YourSpaincoinAddress -p x --expiry 1 --scan-time 1 --queue 0

Check the ping and nodes here >>> http://95.85.49.119:25499/

I trying p2pool few hrs ago and...

20-30 % DOA /rejected/- if you have for ex. 10,000 khash , its just 7-8,000 because of this...
If you use just 1 address on workers, diff for workers will increase with each worker you add, finally if you have got 20 cards, diff for each one will be as for all...bad idea
Because of this I used 8 other addresses, for 2 cards one addr. but just on 5 I get paid...so I switched to mpos pool---there is 0,1% rejected and Im going on full speed

Been there for a few hours as well and I din't get even paid out nothing!
1637  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPA] SpainCoin: freedom for Spain, LAUNCHED! on: March 17, 2014, 12:05:50 AM

Tell me about it...been mining 13mh/s for 2 hours got 2 unconfirmed SPA from dedicated...

Just after SpainCoin launch I was getting 6 SPA every few minutes with my 4 MH/s rig mining @ spa.speedhash.eu - that was nice Smiley

Now with 4 MH/s I am gonna mine ~ 10 SPA per day Grin

nice!

I'm getting only like 0.75 coin after mining 3 hours @ 1900kh/s on http://spa.pool.mn/
