Is there a sure way to make sure my computer isn't infected with some botnet crap? I'd hate to think I"m contributing to this in some sort of way.

will an antivirus program recognize it as a trojan or something?

Botnets are indestructible!!! http://news.cnet.com/8301-13506_3-20075725-17/tdl-4-the-indestructible-botnet/

So good haha

Everyone who posted, who would you recommend most and cheap

Was this for a specific site or all your sites?   I honestly wouldn't have a great answer, but if you give up that information the people who can answer this would be able to assist better.   I know depending on what kind of traffic you are serving up, ie if is media heavy, should go with certain types of hosting over others.
1664  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am putting Bitcoin.us domain name up for auction. on: July 07, 2011, 08:48:18 PM
It would be stupid having bought bitcoin.us with no intention of doing any SEO.
This!   Which though I know the value of the Bitcoin.us domain, here in the general Bitcoin Discussion forum, I assure you the percent of people that browse here that would know how to set it up just decently has to be in the single digits.   I truly believe someone with that much extra cash would buy it thinking that the name within the domain itself is enough to rank better than a site with the same type, but better content.
1665  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin U.S. Trademark Application DROPPED – He’s Trying It Abroad on: July 07, 2011, 08:41:51 PM
From http://www.betabeat.com/2011/07/07/bitcoin-flamers-force-lawyer-to-drop-u-s-trademark-application-so-now-hes-trying-it-abroad/
Found from
http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/ij8uk/bitcoin_flamers_force_lawyer_to_drop_us_trademark/

Quote
Bitcoin enthusiasts were incensed at the application’s claim to ”first use” of the word Bitcoin in commerce on June 22, 2011, the date the application was filed. As evidence, Mr. Pascazi submitted a letter from Celine Pascazi offering to sell Bitcoins for $17.50, also dated June 22. Bitcoiners say the digital currency has been in circulation since as early as 2009.

Mr. Pascazi is aware that Bitcoin has existed for a while. But he was skeptical that its use in commerce could be proven in court, he said.

“My understanding is that they are anonymous and untraceable,” he said. “So how would one prove that a person-to-person transaction occurred?”

Bitcoin transactions are like cash transactions as far as a court is concerned, he said–a.k.a., “not strong compelling evidence.”

“Nonetheless, my client has decided to withdraw the application in the United States because apparently there will be some sort of, there are lots of people interested and alleging they can prove first-to-use and so forth. So strategically that will happen today and simultaneously applications will be made in civil law jurisdictions around the world where the doctrine is first to file,” he said.

That includes France, Italy, Spain, Japan and possibly China, he said.

“In the spirit of capitalism, if somebody sees an opportunity, my view is they should be allowed to seize it and if it never develops into anything, well, nothing ventured, nothing gained,” he said.

Huh what? SEO is an acronym for Search Engine Optimization, it's not a person. A webmaster doing SEO on their website will however value such steps to get a good ranking in search engines (like a tld with 'bitcoin' in it).

SEO isn't easy, you'll have to edit a lot of your content to make it include your targeted keywords. I do have a website ranked 11th in a keyword with a 200k search volume / month, but that's as far as I'm willing to take it. LOL.
SEO Is also a job type, "Search Engine Optimizer", I can assure you a million percent that is a real job and real job title Wink

Every person should do proper "SEO" work on their sites initially, but I am gearing my response more toward the people that would care that much over such a domain name, they better be putting that extra worth in to get the value out of that domain.

Also, you need to start going for number one with terms Smiley   Only go for number 1, or honestly don't try (I know this is a general statement, there is obviously enough terms out there worth grabbing for almost any spot, but I like to think bigger).

Link doesn't work! Sad
1668  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am putting Bitcoin.us domain name up for auction. on: July 07, 2011, 08:24:35 PM
People who can't understand the value of domain names will never understand the value of domain names.  Embarrassed

The only person a domain name is valuable to, is an SEO.

As they understand that there IS value in the domain name, but that value is only there if you set shit up right to make sure you get your money from the SERPS.  Buying a domain name that specific without those intentions is pretty damn retarded, all the extra SEO work could be used to make a site with better content.

As though SEO's care about content though lol
1669  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I need web hosting help on: July 07, 2011, 08:20:15 PM
I already know the name I want and no I spent $25,000 on my last domain sorry
lol

Add another vote for do not use GoDaddy for hosting.   There are dedicated hosting providers so you can keep that separate from the domain buying itself.
1670  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am putting Bitcoin.us domain name up for auction. on: July 07, 2011, 05:39:52 PM
I know the inherent value of the domain having Bitcoin in it, but this is not a marketplace and you are throwing a fairly assumed value with that price, this is not the place to advertise it
1671  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buy Bitcoin T-Shirts..With Bitcoin on: July 07, 2011, 05:38:15 PM
@BitcoinPorn, I like your "coin from a block" shirt, it's witty, geeky and doesn't self describe. Not sure I'd pay 2.5 BTC for it though, but nice design anyway Smiley

Thanks, I appreciate it, it just made sense to me when I made it lol.   Prices, I really wish I could take a hold of that more.   Payment with Visa / Mastercard / Paypal is available directly through Zazzle and of course cheaper than I could ever do, as they take care of everything for me http://www.zazzle.com/decentralizeddesign?rf=238472392639576011 (similar to if I go with Spreadshirt I guess).

Also, I might nab that Matrix  idea Havoc.    I might as well throw this out here if anyone wants to jot down their ideas in MS Paint or something

1672  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Buy Bitcoin T-Shirts..With Bitcoin on: July 07, 2011, 05:26:32 PM
Oh boy a shirt thread. Someone just messaged me today regarding using Spreadshirt, second time they have come up.

I am currently printing through Zazzle with the end game of self printing of course, or at the very least pre-printing.

1676  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am putting Bitcoin.us domain name up for auction. on: July 07, 2011, 03:00:21 PM
It is a ".us"     I think the guy who sold the reddit Bitcoin user name had more value.
1677  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: POOLS under DDOS ATTACKS on: July 07, 2011, 02:45:09 PM
I think people are doing it with good intentions.

Need a little help with a podcast I am putting together right now, so know in advance your audio will be used on a podcast (feel free to shout out or plug anything if you want, feel free to answer even if someone else replies here).

I wanted to explain this page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Action_potential to people.  But dumbed down to just one minute, roughly.  Explaining that in about a minute.  I ended up finding this page http://faculty.washington.edu/chudler/ap.html, which also is too advanced for me.

Thanks if you can help.  You can reply here with a .wav or .mp3 or any audio format really, it doesn't matter, PM it to me, or just email it at bitcoinporn using the gmail and the .com
1680  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tradehill is down on: July 07, 2011, 02:07:57 PM
I read it was a hackscambotnetgoxedfoodstamp in their network.  I would sell now and buy back exactly ten minutes later.
