1661  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2023-02-21] FTX Japan allows customers withdraw their funds on: March 12, 2023, 09:14:42 AM
So where was the insurance companies when Bernie Madoff stole their funds? He operated in a fully regulated financial system and managed to steal $64.8 billion from his investors.  Roll Eyes

What about Wirecard, a German electronic payments company, where roughly $2 billion were stolen through the falsifying of the financials over a period of 20 years. (Where were the regulators?)

There are many more examples of companies that operated in a regulated environment..and where millions were stolen under the regulators noses. (Enron / Wells Fargo / WorldCom / ZZZZ Best / Steinhoff etc....)  Roll Eyes
1662  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Trust in cryptocurrency? on: March 12, 2023, 08:58:30 AM
In a world where most people still believe that "Cash" is backed by Gold, you will find it difficult to convince them that Bitcoin are better. The only thing that quickly convince them, is when something happens with the value of their wealth.

The people in Zimbabwe quickly saw what Hyper inflation can do to the value of their wealth and what happens when a government drives their economy into the ground. They ended up with 1 Trillion Dollar bills that had less value than a sheet of toilet paper... but they trusted that government with their "cash".  Roll Eyes
1663  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What do you think about stop gambling services issued by gambling platforms? on: March 11, 2023, 11:03:12 AM
A lot of gambling sites does offer a "self-exclusion" feature, but that is not nearly enough to stop a gambler from creating another account or to create an account at other casinos. So, when you do this at some Brick n mortar casinos, the CCTV will use face recognition to detect you.. and you will be asked to leave the building.

Some sites do not even have KYC requirements, so they cannot stop you ..even if they wanted to... and other sites will block your account, but they still send promotional emails to your email address.  Roll Eyes

I participate in the daily Slot hunt and I like to play the Gamomat games, but they are buggy af lately.... It will load up to 100% and then just hang there until infinity. Someone suggested that I switch currencies and then start it again and then switch back to the original currency, but it is not working.

Do anyone else have an alternative solution for this problem? The Gamomat games are nice, because they have a turbo spin feature and seeing that the Slot hunt is time based, it is best suitable for that.  Tongue
1665  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Too harsh on user? on: March 11, 2023, 07:08:40 AM
Well, it depends on what the Alt accounts are being used for....

Some people use those accounts to get some extra gambling money from referral accounts (Depositing on referrals and getting the commission on the main account) or it is used for Bonus abuse.

The severity of the transgression of the Alt account abuse have to be taken into consideration, but in most cases the casinos will use the multiple account abuse as an excuse not to payout the wins.  Roll Eyes
1666  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Is kyc verification dangerous? on: March 11, 2023, 06:59:35 AM
Well, there are always the risk of the site being hacked and all the KYC data being stolen. Then that information can be used to sign up for other services that can be used in crime or even scams that might implicate you.  Roll Eyes

I know there were a major security breach at "Ledger" awhile ago, where people's personal information were breached and the hackers used that information to phish some of those users. (individually targeted)  Tongue
1667  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: 🥧 1st edition - Bitcointalk Pie Baking Contest 🥧 on: March 11, 2023, 06:52:49 AM
Great work guys... and Gals! ..... I am so hungry now, I might consider eating a whole bakery.  Grin Grin Grin

I think we should also have a contest like this on Pizza Day.... where we then make pizzas for the competition. You never know, even Lazlo might join and offer us 1000 bitcoins for the best pizza.  Cool

Enjoy the baking..... I am loving it.
1668  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling using chip in money? on: March 10, 2023, 06:12:11 AM
I can understand why some people might be inclined to do that, because a myth exist..where some viewers of these streamers, believe that these paid streamers are given a "special" client seed, so that it might look like people are winning more than what actually happens with other players seed.

The reason why it looks like this is quite simple..... Paid streamers get loads of money from the casinos and they can play until the RTP kicks in...... other players have a much smaller budget, so they play until the money runs out ..way before the RTP kicks in.  Roll Eyes

It is all "Smoke & Mirrors" my friend...   Tongue
1669  Economy / Gambling / Re: What if bitcointalk creates a casino review and ratings board for members. on: March 10, 2023, 06:01:23 AM
Threads with reviews like this, can be manipulated by the competition. It does not take a lot of effort to create "dummy" accounts to attack the reputation of their competition. Alt accounts can be bought with little effort and a thread like that can be derailed by these accounts.  Roll Eyes

We have a scam accusation section on this forum, where we deal with "dark" operators... and I think it is quite affective to sort out most of these issues.  Wink  False accusations are pulled apart in that section, so the chance for manipulation are smaller, because it is focused on that.
1670  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2023-02-22] Bitcoin Core Developer Marco Falke Steps Down From Maintainer Role on: March 10, 2023, 05:52:52 AM
I think a lot of these Bitcoin developers are bored with the project... because it is mature and secure and there are not a lot of challenges to keep them busy. Yes, it is a huge responsibility and an honor to work for the strongest token, but after a while the novelty of that wears off and they start looking for other opportunities to stimulate them.

We see a lot of them being targeted by CW and also some governments, so it must take a toll on them. Let's appreciate their commitment to this experiment and wish them the best in their endeavors.  Wink
1671  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and Ponzi Schemes - People are confused. on: March 10, 2023, 05:32:56 AM
I started this thread with a clear purpose, which is to highlight the fact that Ponzi schemes found Bitcoin and now they are using Bitcoin as a payment option to run this. They used Fiat currencies and the Banking system before, but now they found a pseudo anonymous method to run these criminal activities.

The people who fall for these Ponzi schemes, burn their fingers and a lot of them do not understand that they were part of a Ponzi scheme.... they think this Ponzi scheme is what Bitcoin is. So they tell everyone around them that they lost money on "Bitcoin"...which is not true.

Do you think people who lost money in previous Ponzi schemes, blamed "cash" or their "Credit or debit card" that they used to make payments to those Ponzi schemes? We should educate the public on what Ponzi schemes are ...and what Bitcoin is... and that Bitcoin payments to Ponzi schemes are the same as any other payment option that are used to pay these criminals.  Roll Eyes
1672  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Wrong Bets !!! on: March 09, 2023, 06:28:27 AM
Yes, about two weeks ago.. I took part in one of the Stake.com challenges and it was time sensitive. So I picked one of the less known Slots and quickly configured my "auto" bets for turbo bets with $0.40 bets.

I did not notice that I accidentally clicked $40.00 instead of $0.40 and my balance was gone in a few seconds. So, even if I win the challenge 100 times in the future, I would not break even on my losses due to this.

I nearly lost a phone too..... because I was just about to throw it against the wall.... but fortunately the mouse was closer.  Tongue
1673  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: New casino "BonusBlitz.com" review had to dispute and annoy for withdrawal on: March 09, 2023, 06:15:56 AM
I think these startup casinos have a very small Bankroll and they design these bonuses so that it is almost impossible for you to get "free" money, but when you actually hit the rollover requirement, they get agitated and they try "cheap" tricks to avoid paying out the money.

You stuck with your guns and you eventually got your money, but not just that.... you highlighted another dodgy operator that can actually frustrate customers in the future.

Thank you for sharing your experience.  Wink
1674  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2023-02-24] CNBC -For the Black community, bitcoin represents an opportunity... on: March 09, 2023, 05:56:31 AM
I have a pet hate in all these things where they want to involve race to make more money. In my country it is all about race, everywhere you go...and if you dig a little bit deeper, you will find that it is not about the race, but rather about the money.

I am no racist, because I have several black friends and even black family members... but even they agree that this "Black lives matters" thing are being used for marketing to profit from the cause.

Bitcoin should never be exploited for profit, based on the color of your skin.  Angry
1675  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin and Ponzi Schemes - People are confused. on: March 09, 2023, 05:38:57 AM
I watch a popular breakfast show every morning and they always have a section where they talk about money matters. Yesterday, they talked about Crypto currencies and the guest mentioned several Ponzi schemes where Bitcoin was used as a payment option.

These Ponzi schemes collapsed and according to him ....many people lost money in Bitcoin. They have a WhatsApp group for the program and I immediately corrected that statement, because people did not lose money in Bitcoin.... they lost money in a Ponzi scheme that used Bitcoin as a payment option.

Now, this does not sound very important, but it actually are one of the most critical things that needs to be addressed. We should counter all of these misinformed people, with education on what Bitcoin is, because they lose money on Ponzi schemes and then they blame it on Bitcoin.
1676  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Some superior aspects of Bitcoin over Banks we overlook. on: March 09, 2023, 05:31:04 AM
Also, when you deal with Banks.. you deal with people. Now as you know, it is not a pleasant experience to visit a Bank, because you are already frustrated when you had to stand in a queue at a Bank for 1 hour, before they help you.... then you have to deal with the Bank employee that are tired or in a bad mood.  Roll Eyes

The human element are removed from Bitcoin transactions, because it's all automated. You become your own Bank, so you do not need to deal with people. (or ask permission to access your wealth)  Wink

Some transactions in Banks can also be reversed... (Credit cards) ....where no transactions can be reversed with Bitcoin.  Tongue
1677  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: where the losed money goes? on: March 08, 2023, 06:46:01 AM
The casino sign a contract with third party game providers to configure a fixed house edge for their games, so no matter what happens, they are guaranteed to get that income from those games. Some of the Slot providers give the casinos a choice on several RTP (Return to Player) configurations, so the casino can pick a low or higher RTP. (Example : Hacksaw Games)

Then a lot of these online casinos have their own in-house games, where they configure the RTP on the games. The majority of the money gambled, will go back to the players... and the casino take their cut, but they have to use that income to pay for salaries and to pay for marketing and promotions ..etc..etc.

It is a business.. after all, so it has to make money to pay for it's expenses.  Wink
1678  Economy / Gambling / Re: they are scamming us? on: March 08, 2023, 05:59:14 AM
They are not scamming and actually the terms and condition will help you to understand how their business work. Gambling is a business. It’s normal that they will want profit from customers money by means of loss. They don’t need to do this shitty algorithms to scam players just to have a profit because they already have the house edge on all of the games which guarantee their win in the long run. They just need a good marketing and promotion to let player stay in the casino.

I watch this video long time ago. He might telling the truth about the casino he is working before but there’s no assurance that other casino is doing it too. Gambling doesn’t promise any profit at all that’s why casino always say to bet responsibly.

They actually do not need a "shitty algorithm" to cheat you, because they are in control of the configuration of the RTP for most of their in-house games. Just go to many of these Crypto casinos and you will find that they have a fixed house edge for these games, but we have tried to test those numbers and it is clear that it is not fixed.

They show you a piece of text that says "House edge = 1%" .....but they continuously change it slightly to balance their books. You also have third party Slots like Hacksaw games .... that offers casinos several different options for the RTP, so it is not a fixed house edge on those games.  Roll Eyes
1679  Economy / Economics / Re: The cost of living is trying to kill the living on: March 08, 2023, 05:50:43 AM
The government are actually forced to act in the way that they are acting, because the global economy took a knock from the impact of Covid and also the impact of the war between Russia and the Ukraine.

The thing is... when the economy are struggling, tax income also go down... so that means less money that can be spend on increased wages for civil servants. So now you have two things trying to kill the middle class and poor people.... namely : Higher inflation and wages that are not increasing.  Roll Eyes
1680  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My arguement with a friend who likes POS instead of POW. on: March 08, 2023, 05:38:01 AM
You know that Bitcoin was designed by Satoshi Nakamoto to replace the Block reward with the miners fees as reward in the future ...right? The amount of transactions are supposed to grow and the miners fees with that, so that it is large enough for miners to compete for it in the future.

So, we are hoping that enough use cases are implemented that the amount of transactions will be enough to generate more than generous miners fee, for mining to be sustainable.

Also, as the competition for the Block reward decrease... the difficulty are adjusted, so less hashing power will be needed to compete for the miners fees. (Large mining farms might exit the scene.. and GPU mining might even come back)  Wink
