remember that people are attracted in the BTC market owed to its volatility feature, which is quite great when you are looking for high profitability investments. however, how you will make profit here depends on how you will handle this asset, when will you buy and sell your BTC. so stability actually is not the aim of most holders.
for now, we can't determine when will we see such stability of prices. up until now, there are so many factors affecting the BTC price.

I don't think volatility will be removed too much, it will always be there because the markets are always open 24/7 and all around the world, so there will always be people buying and selling large quantities.

Maybe in the future when there is a lot more fiat transferred into Bitcoin this will be not as noticeable, but who know when that will happen.

Last night FIFA revealed the logo it will use for the 2026 World Cup.

What do you think?

Having an actual image of the trophy as part of a logo seems a bit silly.

That's a basic mistake in graphics design. It won't scale down nicely. Any logo should be a vector image.

Also, the number 26 looks obese basically. Maybe they are subtly trying to say something  Cheesy
1683  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [POLL] Using AI to predict outcomes on: May 18, 2023, 01:12:05 AM
~snip~
AI can really be used in various fields. It's purpose is not solely for gambling prediction since there are numerous AIs that has proven this already. AIs can be used in programming, for business pages, for school-related activities, and many more. It will just be a little more convenient if AI can be used for predicting the game's outcome especially in sports betting that needs past and present data to arrive at an answer of percentage of winning against the other teams. Although as for me, it's still better to make it as a reference and not a sole source of information especially when it comes to decision making that involves a very important matter and money.

I think the game changer here is ChatGPT, the Chat part in particular.

Anyone can use it, by just sending a message to it, that's revolutionary. You don't need to install anything, or do anything, just send a message. That usability makes it the best AI by far, and people are using it for incredible things, that many have never even imagined originally.

The important thing to remember is that it can output absolutely false information, so you need to check the sources carefully. I think this will be the main issue of it, the spread of misinformation.

LOL.. the presidential debate would be quite entertaining. And Biden can't rely on the teleprompter. Trump is going to destroy him outright (given he wins the GOP presidential nomination). Biden is already trailing in most of the opinion polls. The latest polls from Rasmussen Reports measured his net disapproval at 14 points. Any blunder during the debates will sink him to a point beyond redemption. But that said, we still have one and half years to go for POTUS election of 2024. A lot of things can happen in these 18 months.

BTW, American Greatness released an opinion poll for Republican nomination for the state of Florida. Trump is leading with 42 points, compared to 34 for DeSantis. If DeSantis can't even win his home state, then I don't think that he stands a chance elsewhere.

I think Trump will end up being the candidate, but I'm not sure who will win the presidential vote.

It's going to be a close call I think, but in any case Biden and Trump are both really old to be the president, they are around 80 years old, that's a lot.

But I don't think there's any other alternative

The difficulty will be experienced by the third world country people. Maybe the country will make arrangements to issue Visa in a faster way. Right now it is really hard to reach the council to get an appointment for Visa process. Each and every requirement need to be fulfilled and it have utmost security. Maybe there'll be arrangement to issue Visa specific to watch football with the combined contribution from the other two host nations. In that way this can be made easier and cost effective.

In reality I reckon most people will just watch games in a single country, the US, because they will be hosting the vast majority of the matches.

World Cup 2026 host cities revealed, with 11 venues in U.S., 3 in Mexico and 2 in Canada

But then again, not sure if a lot of people would actually go to the US, as many governments are warning against it:

New Zealand has told its people that the U.S. has “domestic-based extremists” while the German government says “it is easy to obtain guns” in the U.S., which has led to “occasional killing sprees.”

It's really out of control to be honest:

There have been a staggering 225 mass shootings in the United States in the 136 days to date in 2023. That’s 1.65 per day!

What a load of BS?

If the joint bid from Uruguay–Argentina–Chile–Paraguay wins the hosting rights for FIFA World Cup 2030, then a total of only 6 teams will participate in that tournament from the CONMEBOL region. Out of the 48 participants, 6 are supposed to come from this confederation. And if they win hosting rights, then 4 out of the 6 slots will be reserved for the hosts, while the non-hosting countries within CONMEBOL will participate in the qualifier tournament from which the remaining 2 slots will be decided. So let's be clear about it. A total of 6 teams will be from CONMEBOL, and not 10 as you are claiming.

I went back to read the official rules. Things have changed!

In Korea-Japan 2002, there were 3 countries that qualified automatically: South Korea and Japan as hosts, and France as the current champion (they won France 1998).

In the past, when a country won the world cup, they qualified automatically for the next world cup, but that is no longer the case:

In 2001 FIFA ended automatic qualification of the reigning champion

Brazil ended up winning the Korea-Japan 2002 tournament, but they didn't qualify directly for the 2006 world cup(they still qualified through the normal channel though).

Also, there used to be an extra qualifying slot for the host country. For example, Brazil hosted the 2014 World Cup, so they qualified directly.

So, for the 2014 World Cup CONMEBOL had 4.5 slots, but 6 countries qualified. Brazil as hosts, Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador, and Chile as directly qualified in the tournament, and Uruguay after the playoffs.

Until now, the hosting country used to get an extra slot, but for the next world cup this will change:

However, in a change of format from previous World Cups, there would be no dedicated host country slot, with the slots of automatically qualifying host countries now taken from the quota of its confederation

So, yeah, theoretically speaking, if they have the 4 countries in CONMEBOL hosting the 2030 world cup, they would only have 2 direct slots left (and an extra one for playoffs for a maximum total of 7 countries qualified). Although it would be a strange qualifier then, I'm sure they will change the rules again by that time, as they keep doing it.
1687  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you blame someone for your gambling losses? on: May 15, 2023, 11:12:20 PM

I get it, gamblers should own their actions. But I think it's too cut-and-dry, overlooking the tricky terrain. Sure, folks willingly walk into a casino, dreaming of a jackpot. But let's face it, casinos play mind games. The promise of riches and the cunning setup can turn even the steeliest heads.

Dumping all blame on gamblers ignores the casino's shark-like nature. These places are built to lure and hook. It's not just about personal will; it's about crafty industry tactics exploiting weak spots. Instead of just burdening the gambler, let's push for a fairer gambling space. Steps like protecting the susceptible, teaching responsible gambling, and holding the industry to account can dial down gambling's potential harm.

It is always 100% the responsibility of the gambler.

Sure, the world is full of sharks wanting your attention, your money, etc. It's up to you to decide what to do with your attention and your money.

The gambler chooses to focus on gambling, and going into casinos. No one else is there to blame.

The good thing about this is that the gambler can in theory "recover" instantaneously because there's no one else to blame. If the gambler changes his or her mind about their priorities in life, and creates a different goal in which to put their attention, they can stop gambling right now if they want to. No need for external help, because it's all in their mind.
1688  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When Bitcoin will become stable currency? on: May 15, 2023, 11:08:18 PM

We don't need everyone to use bitcoin before it would be regarded as a currency. All we need is the multitude that would be easy to accept it for a means of payment on goods and services exchanged. You don't even need no government or regulatory body's approval. That's the beauty of the whole system as we have it now.
Bitcoin as it is and even in the future won't be readily available for all people due to certain limitations like devices and network. Those doesn't mean its not a currency. It remains a currency for those that use it for a means of exchange.

Yeah, we need a minimum amount of people that provide a reasonable amount of goods and services payable in Bitcoin.

As you say, there's no need to have the government involved.

And also, note that this is different to say, having a debit card linked to your bitcoin, because that means that you are still using fiat for the transaction, and that requires the whole legacy stack.
1689  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is $30 dollars worth starting bitcoin? on: May 15, 2023, 11:06:08 PM

Of course, if he makes only $3 profit, that probably won't even cover the fees for buying and selling bitcoins, but he will still make a profit. And learning to trade from scratch with $30 will most likely result in him losing the entire $30 altogether. I can quite possible to advise him to buy bitcoins, especially in a downturn, but I personally would not dare to advise anyone to start trading, the risk is too high.

Yeah, trading is expensive, and most people will end up losing money, plus the fees are constantly there.

With $30 OP should focus on learning about Bitcoin, lightning, etc, it's a great opportunity to move Bitcoin around. At the end of the day it's the same if OP was moving millions, so better to learn with less money as mistakes would cost almost nothing.

I wouldn't focus on trading, just on learning the tools of Bitcoin.

And in terms of probabilities, if the odds are in your side the rule is to bet more and vice versa when the odds are not yours then you must derisk your funds.
However, the risk to reward ratio is poor. it is 0.9:1 plus transaction fees. You will eventually lose overtime if you overexpose yourself. This simply proves that the house are always in control of the outcome over the series of bets. So when you are in profit, don't give it back. Keep it and come back the next time when the odds are on your side.

Coming back would be a mistake.

It doesn't matter if it's another day or it's the same day, the only difference is that you might have gotten paid and therefore have extra money to spend in the casino.

If you manage to get ahead at any point in gambling, and you want to maximize your money, then the best move is to stop playing altogether, forever. That way you will end up with a positive amount of money earned from the casino, which is rare. And even rarer is someone that stops gambling after that rare event.

The odds are never on your side, always remember that.

I agree that mainstream media has a lot of private interest being it, from both the right and the political left. It is the same with Fox and CNN. In my opinion, it is okey to watch those sources as long we are aware of their nature as a tool to control the narrative in the minds of the population.

When comes to politics, I still think it is possible to find independent media, they are usually small and they are funded by their own viewers and non-political sponsorships. Since they are small enough, the politicians of ever underestimate them.

There are some good commentators on YouTube and on Podcast applications, in my opinion.

Yeah, I think the Internet has allowed individuals to express their points of view directly, without an agenda from other people.

The problem is, of course, this means that crazy, more extreme, ideas get a lot of exposure, and reasonable ideas get ignored.

This is where our societies are moving, towards a more divided country, everywhere. It's always an "us vs them" narrative, and lots of fear in their messages.

They try to tell you that if you vote for the other one, you'll be in a horrible position. Fear is a huge motivator and politicians know this. They use this to their advantage.

So, yes, even though there are independent things out there, it's hard to reach them in a sea of extremist ideas and mainstream media.

so, in this case, almost all casino games, not just slot games, have a bigger chance of winning and beating every customer. so there is no other way to avoid these things because gambling companies are designed to make a profit.
some people may deny statements like this, but the fact is that no gambler really wins at casino games except for 2 factors, namely luck or the gambler is the company's bookie himself.

on another issue, even though there are gamblers who win big from casino games including slot games, if it is calculated from the total loss, I am sure it will not be equal and in the end the house will still win.

It's just probabilities, there's nothing to deny.

The odds in the games in casinos are calculated so that they pay you less than the actual odds.

For example, if you toss a coin, there's a 50% chance you win if you bet on tails. The casino game would pay you, say, 90 cents if you bet $1 and win, but take your full $1 if you lose.

You can see how in the long term you will inevitably lose all your money in a game like that.

This is a simplified example, but all the games in a casino are like that.

Sure, you can bet $100 and win in your first try and get $90, and leave, but that rarely happens. Gamblers that win will continue to bet, losing their entire money eventually.

But in this case he doesn't seem human because it's part of his own family but he's willing to do that just for fun.

Even though in this case gambling is something that cannot be let go but of course as humans we also have to have a conscience so that we are still considered human beings but things like that really make me boil just by reading it.

When a person is completely addicted their brain behaves in a way that might look very differently than a person who is not addicted.

The choices those addicts make are far away from what a non-addict would choose.

It's a bad place to be, but everyone has the potential to be there, so everyone needs to be careful with their daily choices.

It has been shown in studies that lots of people that are basically normal, would end up killing someone (it was a faked death in the experiment of course) by following orders of a superior.

People kinda just acted because they followed orders from others. In a similar way, the addict will simply follow the orders of their thoughts.

This is exactly what happens, but beginners often think that they are the lucky ones and they will be able to win more than others. Due to this casino and earn a lot of money. Only after a gambler understands that in the long run, the casino will always have an advantage and learn to control themselves, gambling is seen very differently. Play for fun and do not chase the money and then all will be well.

If you play for only fun then you can always simply use a game that looks like a casino.

I don't think people playing in a casino will every only play just for fun, there's always the idea that you can win more money than what you put in.

As I said, if that was the case, then you can simply play games that are free but no money involved. Few people actually want that.
1695  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: When Bitcoin will become stable currency? on: May 14, 2023, 11:43:51 PM
It's important to remember that the use case for Bitcoin may not necessarily be as a stable currency for everyday transactions. Its value proposition lies in its decentralization, security, and ability to operate outside of traditional financial systems. While stability is important for a currency, it's not necessarily the only factor in determining its success or adoption.

It's simply money, a way to pay goods and services.

It's value will change over time, but so does other currencies.

The thing is that over long periods of time it should continue to increase it's value given its scarcity.
1696  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: It's on! 2024 US Presidential Election Biden+Harris Vs Trump Bitcoin betting.... on: May 14, 2023, 11:42:36 PM
Very ironic that CNN, the same media and news channel that has attacked Donald Trump since the beginning of his political career now has turned into another platform for his word and ideas to spread, the Town Hall organized by CNN featuring Trump was a very weird show of propaganda and hypocrisy. However, there is no doubt in my mind that it has helped Trump to appear more charismatic and strong in a channel which has been against him for so long.

CNN will lose viewers because of this, though. I do not know what they were thinking. They cannot use conventional tools like a  Town Hall with a politician like Trump which is highly unconventional and he goes all in to break the molds.

Mainstream media is just a way to control population.

Whatever they say there will be on the minds of a large amount of people, so people in power want them to say specific things that suit them.

It's impossible to trust what any of these TV channels say as they are usually influenced by other people.

I don't think there's truly independent news, so the best is to just read and watch a lot of different sources and come up with your own thoughts about things.
1697  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: do you lose on slots? on: May 14, 2023, 11:37:59 PM

If luck doesn't come, even if we increase the bet amount, it still won't help us to get a win, and instead, we will experience a big loss. We've had it before, but some people even keep doing it because they keep hoping that by doing it, their luck will come, which it doesn't.

And that's the point of limiting gambling so we know when it's time to stop and can secure the remaining balance. We can play gambling at other times and not spend the balance we have just for that day. And maybe we will be luckier next time so we can win some money.

The thing is that humans are not naturally good at calculating probabilities, instead of say, calculating the force to throw a rock to hit a target.

That means that only for very simple cases we would be able to naturally bet correctly.

Say for example I flip a coin, and you bet on what side appears. Most people would know that's a 50/50 scenario, but people think that if in the past there have been 4 heads, then the next one has more chances to be tails. That's wrong, as tails still has the original 50/50 chances.

And that's just a simple example, games in casinos are designed so that it looks like it's easier to win than what it really is.

The truth is that every single game in a casino has higher odds for the house to win, so eventually the gambler will lose everything to the house.
1698  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The madness of gambling addicts. on: May 14, 2023, 01:26:56 AM
It's really a crazy thing that still happens a lot but on the other hand does it really have to be like that where it doesn't matter if they are relatives or not but they cross that limit just to gamble.
This is really unhealthy because apart from him being a cruel person, on the other hand I'm pretty sure he can't control the gambling conditions he does which makes him all consumed by a heavy addiction.

Any addict that is addicted enough will basically do anything to obtain the thing that the person is addicted to.

There are of course different levels depending on what causes the addiction, but the brain is an interesting thing and it will create crazy plans to obtain what it is lacking.

In a way this is a powerful machinery that could be used extremely successfully when the addiction is positive, but also a horrible thing when the addiction is negative.

Good point. But as for believing in superstitions, I think, to a large degree, it's a choice rather than anything else. It's a comfortable feeling to believe that certain behaviour or items can give you an edge in life by bringing good luck. Or it's convenient to shift the blame/responsibility to bad luck, i.e. why blame yourself and your crappy driving for crashing the car when you could blame some black cat or Friday 13th?

Yeah, that might be.

But I believe that you are responsible of everything that happens to you, good or bad. That way at least you have a chance to change your life.

If you blame things on others or in "god's acts", etc, then you can't change those things at all.

I much prefer getting all the blame, because it comes with the ability to change.

I think that American youth will adopt it as a way to get rich but there will be a minority that sees it as a way to achieve freedom and fix a lot of the problems that will be facing their generation. I can't image what the cost of a house will be in 10 -20 years and how much of the world will be controlled by a tiny group of "elites" but I think if the youth is able to look past the get rich quick mentality, I think they will put it to good use to fix a lot of fiat problems.

Youth in developing world are probably much more likely to adopt it out of necessity and not just out of novelty or a get rich quick scheme. Hyperinflation is going to get worse and bitcoin will not only protect the youth from inflation but it will make it easier for young people to relocate to other parts of the world with their wealth intact.

Bitcoin is an asset, just like real estate for example, so in a way it's just investing.

The thing is that it's open to absolutely the whole world, without intermediaries, and almost no fees. I think that's a big difference compared to other investments.

Younger people probably will feel better investing in Bitcoin than in other things like real estate that might require a more hands-on approach.
