1701  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [OpenSource] BitSafe, a safety deposit box for your bitcoin on: November 04, 2011, 12:04:32 AM
Very cool.  I'd been playing around with building my own live CD, but you beat me to it.

What version of the bitcoin client do you have installed (and what version of libdb++ did you use)?  If I wanted to use my own branch (like one of sipa's with the private key import), what would be the easiest way to do that?  What would be the easiest way to get namecoin installed?  I haven't done much with debian before, but I do know my way around linux/freeBSD.
1702  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tor fallback nodes on: November 01, 2011, 06:33:49 PM
I'll setup a hidden service on my main miner and get the ports open for you later today.  I think bitcoin over tor is probably privacy overkill, but it can't hurt.

Hm... Just tried to "apt-get install tor" on my miner and it was unhappy with libevent versions.  This may take a little longer than I thought.
1703  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mac OS X Trojan steals processing power to produce Bitcoins on: November 01, 2011, 06:06:10 PM
How is that possible? Mac has NO VIRUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At least, that bullshit is what you keep hearing in the "applestore"  Roll Eyes

trojan != virus
1704  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: 0.5 release progress update on: November 01, 2011, 06:02:09 PM
Thanks for the update.

What version of libdb is going to be used? The newest debian/ubuntu don't have libdb4.8++ and instead have 5.1
1705  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: How many btcs do you earn everyday? on: November 01, 2011, 01:17:21 AM
~0.7 with PPS at eligius plus namecoins
1706  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Ultra-Low-Cost DIY FPGA Miner - 175MH/s @ $1/MH on: October 31, 2011, 11:43:13 PM
I'm not convinced FPGAs are worthwhile right now, but I think it will be awesome if the electricity costs can't be made up.
1707  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: bittit - Sell your pictures for Bitcoins on: October 31, 2011, 11:02:20 PM
Fun.  At first I thought bittit was going to be a misleading name.  Looks like that is intentional though.

I still don't get how pay-for-porn sites exist when there is so much free/ad-based stuff out there, but that's another discussion.
1708  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ฿ <- Add this character to your keyboard with Keyboard Layout Creator on: October 31, 2011, 10:55:59 PM
On Mac OSX, I made it such that when I type the sequence "$" "B" that it creates the ฿ currency symbol.  You can do that in System Preferences > Language & Text > Text.  Once you've created the substitution, you may need to enable it in apps that don't have it turned on by default (i.e. Safari…you can often find the option to enable it under Edit > Substitutions > Text Replacement).

Great idea. Too bad chrome doesn't seem to support this.  I looked at TextExpander, but its $35 Sad

It also doesn't seem to do anything until you hit space. Which means you have to type "$B[space][delete]123" for ฿123
1709  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGMINER CPU/GPU miner overclock monitor fanspeed in C linux/windows/osx 2.0.7 on: October 28, 2011, 11:59:54 PM
I think its an important point that combining hash power of NMC and BTC improve's both network's security.  I think cgminer should do its best to work properly with merged mining.
1710  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Anybody creating a Bitcoin Safe yet? on: October 28, 2011, 11:56:40 PM
paper can decay over time depending on the type, something like embossed/etched metal however wouldn't as long as the base was a metal that doesn't oxidize

Paper decays slower than HDs or SSDs, but you are right that metal QR codes would last the longest.
1711  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: PyBtcEngine: BTC backend in Python (with C++/SWIG) on: October 28, 2011, 11:51:12 PM
I love python.  Keep up the good work.
1712  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Proposed RPC command: sweepprivkey on: October 28, 2011, 11:35:24 PM
I really like this idea.  Good work
1713  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Pywallet: manage your wallets/addresses/keys/tx's on: October 28, 2011, 11:15:37 PM
Any word on getting this to work with 0.4's encrypted wallet?
1714  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Anybody creating a Bitcoin Safe yet? on: October 27, 2011, 10:30:53 PM
paper wallet,  OCR, bank safe-- done.

Or use https://www.bitaddress.org for paper wallet -> qr code
1715  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [880 GH/s 0% fee SMPPS] ArsBitcoin mining pool! Come join us! on: October 27, 2011, 10:18:14 PM
As soon as this pool gets merged mining, I will make it my primary.  Until then, I have it set as my first failover.
1716  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [announce] Namecoin - a distributed naming system based on Bitcoin on: October 26, 2011, 12:06:32 AM
Just got my miner setup with merged mining on Eligius with 1GH/s.

I already run my own DNS server for my own personal websites.  I'll play around with the PHP->bind scripts over the next few days and let you know what I think.
1717  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGMINER CPU/GPU miner overclock monitor fanspeed in C linux/windows/osx 2.0.7 on: October 24, 2011, 10:13:50 PM
I am running 2.0.7 and really liking it.  With my setup, when a worker dies it won't restart; it stays on "DEAD" forever.  If i try to quit by pressing q, it hangs and "ps" shows the process as defunct.  "kill" and "kill -9" don't seem to restart it.  If I reboot the computer while it is locked up, when I try to start cgminer again it doesn't see my GPUs and instead starts mining the CPU.  If I reboot it again it comes up working, but then the autofan and the overclocks don't work.

This is what it looks like right now after I started it after a crash

Code:
 cgminer version 2.0.7 - Started: [2011-10-24 22:04:16]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 (5s):891.6 (avg):877.0 Mh/s | Q:56  A:37  R:6  HW:0  E:66%  U:8.32/m

 GPU 1: 321.6/316.2Mh/s | A:14 R:1 HW:0 U:3.15/m I:4
 GPU 2: 248.5/243.5Mh/s | A:7 R:4 HW:0 U:1.57/m I:4
---------------------------------------------------------

When I first ran the program, it displayed my fan RPMs and was able to change the gpu and memory clocks.  But those options are not showing.

If I open up "AMDOverdriveCtrl" I can overclock my cards and get above 1000Mh/s, but I like having everything in cgminer.  Is there some file that I need to delete or something?  I don't know how got it working again fully last time, all I did was reboot it.  What am I missing?

I expect to see something like

Code:
 cgminer version 2.0.7 - Started: [2011-10-24 22:04:16]

 GPU 2: 248.5/243.5Mh/s 2500RPM | A:7 R:4 HW:0 U:1.57/m I:4
---------------------------------------------------------

Thanks again for this awesome program.

EDIT: Well I was able to get the fan RPMs and clocks working again.  I had to "export DISPLAY=:0" (which I also have to do for AMDOverdriveCtrl) since I am starting this from a remote ssh session and I'm not on the box.  I still don't know why the GPUs aren't detected after a crash though.
1718  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [800 GH/s 0% fee SMPPS] ArsBitcoin mining pool! Come join us! on: October 18, 2011, 06:05:33 AM
@BT

Any thoughts on implementing merged mining?  I saw the question asked a few pages back, but didn't see any response about it.

Same question
1719  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGMINER CPU/GPU miner overclock monitor fanspeed in C linux/windows/osx 2.0.6 on: October 15, 2011, 05:36:20 AM
So I have been running cgminer with --auto-fan and --gpu-engine 835,835,1020 for my rig.  Everything was working fine.  Then I rebooted and when I restarted cgminer, my hashrates act like they are standard clocks (980MHash instead of 1080) and I don't get any indication of fan speed (it used to say the rpms next to the hash rate).  I thought the problem might be related to going from 2.0.5 to 2.0.6, but switching to the older version didn't change anything. Any ideas as to why my flags are being ignored?

Very cool!  I really like the idea of green addresses.
