1721  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 6 Things You Missed from the State of Bitcoin on: August 01, 2015, 03:34:40 PM
I honestly don't understand the concern people have with whichever country happens to have the most hashing power.

I think it's simply an emotional thing. It's easier to trust your own countrymen since you are more near to them. So trusting some other country at the other end of the world is a bit harder.

It would be a little bit less harder when miners wouldn't proof all the time that they would do anything to get an advantage in mining.
1722  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 6 Things You Missed from the State of Bitcoin on: August 01, 2015, 03:32:25 PM
"China-based miners are now the majority"

i don't like this part too much, i'm worried that one day they might work together and attempt to double spend via 51% or other attack, remember that even at 40% some attacks are practicable without six confirmations, or if someone manage to hack the pools and do some malicious things

You should not fear this. I mean when they would do a >50% attack then they would need someone they can scam. And who would pay out a big enough amount of fiat in such a fast time that the attack would not be seen already?

On a second level, the miners would kill all their hardware and investment at once. By taking huge risk.

Doing that would simply be stupid on a business decision level.
1723  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Open-Source project forking history (and Bitcoin XT) on: August 01, 2015, 03:26:39 PM
8. Ubuntu to Linux Mint. Tongue Because Ubuntu developers started to change it into some form of stupid person linux that should be so easy to handle that everyone can do it. Only problem was that professional users didn't even find how to change their settings anymore.

But LaudaM is right. Forks are not always better.
1724  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Network need upgrade ASAP on: August 01, 2015, 03:19:33 PM
No, the shop employee needs an upgrade. They should not make you wait for a confirmation!

For regular payments, like a cup of coffee, or a bike, you can accept zero-confirmation payments without any significant risk - MUCH lower than when accepting credit cards, for example.

When a customer pays with credit card, a shop owner does not make the customer wait until the transaction becomes irreversible (which is typically 6+ months for most Visa and MasterCards).
Similarly, they should not make a customer wait if they pay with Bitcoin either, even though the confirmation time or 'irreversibility time' is only 10 minutes on average.

If they're scared about double spends, they should use a Bitcoin payment provider. There are plenty, it's free of charge and then they have zero risk.

You really await them to give out a bike with zero confirmations? That's way to risky with all the ongoing spam. And bitcoin payment providers are not really helpful for bitcoin. At least when the coins are exchanged to fiat instantly.
1725  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A Phuket villa owner agrees to accept bitcoin, how do I proceed on: August 01, 2015, 03:10:30 PM
You might think that the 30% are less than what the seller could get but scammers often enough only try to get the small amount and they are gone.

Are you sure these villas exist and that you speak with the real owner?
1726  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Most beautiful block explorer ever ? on: August 01, 2015, 03:07:24 PM
An English version would be nice as well.. Although it wouldn't be hard to understand as it takes English input anyway.

English version is already there. Please check the OP.

I think the option is hidden so that everyone assumes there is no other language. Hiding it behind a settings icon while normally everyone would avaid flags to click, flags in a dropdownbox, Languageshortcuts or something like that.
1727  Other / Off-topic / Re: Worst mistake you did with Bitcoin? on: August 01, 2015, 03:04:50 PM
Investments... that was my biggest mistake. It is simply way too hard in the bitcoin community to find a valuable and trustworthy investment. Even when the issuers are not scammers, then they are either inept or have a communication problem.
1728  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is NOT a currency debate! on: August 01, 2015, 02:51:55 PM
From all of the anti-bitcoin arguments against it not being a proper currency that i've heard (and trust me i've read TONS) im yet to see a single one that justifies such claim. Every single claims end up being a critique of how it lacks intrinsic value or how it lacks a proper marketcap to be less volatile, both already refuted.

Ok. Let me ask why do we want it to be a currency? Maybe you are looking for credibility? But if all the arguments or critique have already been refuted in your opinion why is bitcoin still only used for gambling and speculative trading and not as a currency? What's stopping it if it's such a panacea?

IF you can buy shit with it it s a currency. Why do we want it to be a currency? Because it's arguably the only fair and not corrupt one. Not sure where you get all that bitcoin is used for is trading or gambling either.

To buy shit you do not need currency. You can buy shit with gold, a promissory note, or smokes if one is in jail. Bitcoin has some characteristics of currency in particular it's a medium of exchange. The only intinsinс value that it has is based on the fact that it is a pretty good medium of exchange but it would be nothing of there was nothing to exchange it for.

If we say that it is not a currency than regulators of this would let it be, if we continue on the path of enchuching onto the hegemony of USD they will shut it down. All they have to do is to say it's illegal and it would be game over for bitcoin.

Using smokes is bartering, not buying something. Gold isn't really a valid currency because it is not easily divisible. How do I buy a pack of smokes with a gold bullion? I can't. But wait, I can buy them with bitcoin. Why are you not making the same arguments against fiat?  Is that not a currency too?T he gov are not going to shut it down. They'll regulate it because they want to tax it and if people are using it a a currency - which they are - then they're not going to leave it alone so everyone can just have their money to launder or use without having to pay taxes on it. Bitcoin is a currency so stop posting rubbish or half-assedly trolling.

I could guarantee you that you would find more people how would accept a piece of gold before they would accept a bitcoin. Following your logic, gold is currency...

And a lot more people would accept smoke since this is the most used "currency" in jails around the world.

Thanks for the argument Smiley So, until bitcoin reaches the same level of acceptance it's NOT a currency

Huh? Since when is a currency only a currency when many accept it? Will you accept money form a country far away? Surely not. But it's still a currency. If you are in the country where the money is from then you might accept it. And when you are at a bitcoin conference then you surely will pay with bitcoins too.

Why do you invent reasons why bitcoin is not a currency?
1729  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Most beautiful block explorer ever ? on: July 24, 2015, 03:40:49 PM
I wouldn't say anything now, because you just dug your own grave. Website, when you are advertising it on the Enligsh BTC forum,
should be in English from the beginning of my visit, or at least make something like a country detection and change the language based on this, many modern websites are doing this nowadays.
that's right, but it's just an small problem to sole, just click the gear wheel to change the language

You might be right but i doubt that many will search for that. I took a quick look for the normally awaited buttons to change the language but they weren't there. No flags, no language names, no language shortcut dropbownbox.

It's best to design a website the way people would await it. It makes it easier to navigate.
1730  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The most bitcoin-friendly region in the world? on: July 23, 2015, 09:15:21 PM
UK & Switzerland are pretty bitcoin-friendly too.
there arent a lot of countries that are bitcoin friendly in europe what is really sad as i live there, i believe the biggest reason is that banks are afraid of bitcoin though its just my opinion

That is correct. Banks here fear that bitcoin payment related transactions are related to money laundering. They don't want to investigate, because this means work and they don't get paid for it. So they chose the easy way and simply close the bank account. It's a poor behaviour. Thought that's why we want to avoid banks... Tongue
1731  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would you use Bitcoin hashpower to attack altcoins? on: July 23, 2015, 09:08:25 PM
If you could use (rent it?) the hashpower dedicated to Bitcoin to attack altcoins for a week, which one would you attack first? If this would happen right now, which altcoins could ipotetically suffer a severe attack to their blockchain?

what would be the point of that?

Manipulating the price of that altcoin maybe. I'm not sure how hashpower might do this but it might be possible to move the price. At least you would get a lot of coins of that altcoin. I'm not sure if you can earn from that.
1732  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Coin.mx shutdown by federal government, top executives arrested on: July 23, 2015, 09:06:18 PM
Doesn't the accusation say that coin.mx KNEW that these coins were coming from ransomware? So it might not be because they traded bitcoins without a license but that they took part in a crime and not stopped it even though they knew it.

Possible?
1733  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fees when bitcoin "skyrocket" on: July 23, 2015, 09:02:55 PM
It would make no sense to pay $10 fees for a bitcoin transaction. If that happens then the minimum fee would be sat down because otherwise bitcoin would lose one of his big advantages, which is nearly free cost transactions.

The only real thing that will raise fee income will be adoption. The more transactions the more fees.
1734  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Your first bitcoins came from.. (faucets aside) on: July 23, 2015, 08:46:45 PM
I bought it on an exchange. I wonder which it was. MtGox maybe? Or bitcoin24.com?

I sent it to a normal standard bitcoin-qt wallet and found later that they are worth more now. Smiley
1735  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Telegram now has an A.I. BOT called Julia who is your personal Bitcoin assistant. on: July 23, 2015, 08:44:59 PM
If Telegram does then whatsapp will look into it too.

Maybe it only needs a certain number of user requests? For paying the yearly fee in bitcoin? In german subforum it seems that a big company will take bitcoin payments in now too again, they dropped it but it seems many complained and were disappointed. Finally they decided to put it back in.

Might be that whatsapp only needs a push. Smiley
1736  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is wealth boring? on: July 23, 2015, 08:39:41 PM
If you get bored because of it then you probably didn't do much to get that wealth. If you earned it then you won't sit around. You would have so many ideas you could put in motion that you don't even get the idea of life being boring.

Nah, i prefer being rich with a stable income each month.
1737  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Stolen Bitcoin on: July 23, 2015, 08:37:53 PM
This again highlights the huge weakness of bitcoin as they are stored and protected (not!) at the moment. If people loose money in a banking account most of the time they will get their money back. For bitcoin.... it's just "so sorry, too bad".

You're so wrong, this is not a bitcoin weakness but rather people's carelessness of keeping their bitcoins in a web wallet, it's like giving your money to a stranger and hoping nothing happens to it.

I don't know what happened to OP, I don't think it was a hacker or something like that because they would have swept the whole wallet but whatever it was I would suggest you to learn about Electrum and cold wallets and move your funds asap or else you might end up losing them all.

You are right, unfortunately people coming to bitcoin have a hard time understanding the importance of securing their funds. They need to wrap their head around that they are their own bank now and they need to make sure their money is safe. Backups, maybe cold wallets, antivirus and so on.

You probably know... nearly nobody thinks a harddisc can break until it happens. Then you start to back up things.
1738  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Most beautiful block explorer ever ? on: July 23, 2015, 08:34:07 PM
It is nice though has some graphic bugs, so black areas around some graphics. And the language might be a problem.

And sound always should be disabled by default. Users can enable it. But having sound can be a bad experience when browsing at work or so.
1739  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Poll] Are you using BitWage to get any of your paycheck paid in bitcoin? on: July 23, 2015, 08:31:02 PM
I already thought that BitWage won't start high because there are simply too many things you only can pay with a bank account and not with bitcoins. But when they allow a partly paycheck to be converted?

Though i wonder if an employer in fact would split payment and send them to different bank accounts.
1740  Other / Off-topic / Re: Worst mistake you did with Bitcoin? on: July 23, 2015, 08:27:56 PM
Not selling my really worthy shares when they were worth much. I could have been rich but i waited with selling until they dropped down much. Always hoped they will recover and thought they were so good, selling is a too big step.

I was wrong. Though maybe my later investment errors would have made a correct handling at that time irrelevant too. Maybe i would have lost the additional profit then too.
