What would you need 50 testnet coins for, that 0.50 or 0.05, or 0.005 will not suffice? I don't have that much either, but you can always get from the many faucets a small amount. It's for testing, the amount should not matter.
But I'd like to also know if there are any other ways of acquiring such amount of testnet coins other than mining them.
Nope, you either run in regtest mode, or you mine tBTC... Sometimes 0.5 tBTC does not suffice, for example: if you're designing a mixer... You'll need a lot of tBTC in order to do a proper taint analysis. @OP: I run a faucet: https://tbtc.mocacinno.com and i've given tBTC as a loan in the past. I have > 50 tBTC (but most are on my hardware wallet at home, so i can't access them for another 3 hours) However : since you're a newbie, i would require sufficient collateral for such a loan. The collateral should be sufficient to rent hashrate from miningrigrentals and mine >50 tBTC in case your run off. To tell you the truth, the diff on the testnet is still very high and the block reward is ~0.39 tBTC, so i'm afraid it'll be a lot of collateral to loan 50 tBTC. IF you're interested: i'm willing to use a trusted forum escrow to hold the collateral, no intrest, but ALL fees are payed by you (including the fees to transfer the collateral to me or the escrow, and the fees to transfer the collateral back to you). Please do not PM me, but post anything on this very thread... I don't like to hide in PM's, telegram, mails,...

You don't necessarily have to use Google's app for 2FA. You can use Authy instead. I find it to be much better since it allows you to take backups of yours keys. Authy? Never heard of it. Is it supported by Bitfinex? They only talk about google. I don't know about Authy, but i've used winAuth in the past, and it worked like a charm to generate codes for google's 2FA Authentication

I would love to join and test the new feature, but unfortunately I'm 82 Merits short from full member!
is there a special reason for this rather strict criteria?
Not really, the main reason for this giveaway was to test out Theymos's new feature (Private Giveaway), so i needed some parameters in order to test the system... Minimum rank was one of those parameters, but i randomly picked a rank to be honest... I didn't really think about which rank to pick, and just randomly picked one.

1 slot left - It astounds me that i can't fill 16 slots for a free giveaway I'll be on holliday starting the end of today's business day, untill the first of march (10 days)... So if the giveaway draw isn't happening in the next ~5-ish hours, it'll have to wait untill the 2nd of march.

The last time I noticed the transaction fee is so high was only during the bull run, so basically we are not yet in a bull run right now and we might see this abnormal increase of miner's fee if the bull run will come.
actually I didn't notice that decrease of fees, in the past few months, my transaction fee was just around .50 usd to 1 usd, using the highest fee transaction with my electrum wallet.
Well, in all honesty, it's very rare for me to use a high fee... Usually, i manually edit my fees, and the last couple of months it only happened once or twice that i chose a fee > 1 sat/byte. High fees are only necessary when you buy an item from a shop that uses a gateway like bitpay, and they force your transaction to be confirmed in 1 or 2 hours. If you are sending funds to other peers, or to your own wallet, a low fee is more than enough.

I mean why not get it from Thailand, Singapore, Sweden or anywhere else Because i'm giving it away for free, so i don't want any extra hassle, nor do i want to overpay... I have a provider in china i've used before for myself, i trust them, their prices are good, they accept my payment methods. If i ever conduct a paying raffle, i'll put more effort in finding a provider that's faster 4 slots left I get the feeling today will be the day the raffle is drawn

Whay about the Coronavirus ? That factor was already mentioned in the OP --snip-- (normally 4 to 6 weeks, however, with the corona virus it might even take longer). --snip--
As for the giveaway: 8 spots are gone, the rest is still open... I'm signing off for today, so there'll be no updates of the slots for the next ~16 hours. As mentioned before: it's first come, first serve. Tomorrow morning, i'll look at my mailbox and just keep filling slots untill all 16 slots are filled, if you sent me a mail after the slots have been filled, you won't be able to participate!

But, one of my friends paid up to $7 for a transaction as of recent. I couldn’t really tell why he was charged that much for a transaction I know for sure that I would have paid less and the reason he gave that caused it isn’t I am going to believe easily. He claimed its because he received too many micro transactions and that’s why the fees he had to pay increased. He’s a retailer and he receives a lot if cryptocurrencyevery day and he also sends out a lot. So he claimed it was as a result of that, but I told him it had nothing to do with the fees, or maybe it’s true? His analysis is probably true... Loads of micro transactions = loads of unspent outputs. If you spend these unspent outputs (so use them as an input), you'll end up with a big transaction (in size), so you'll have to pay a big fee in order to entice a miner to put this transaction into the block he/she is trying to solve. You can play around with this wizard for a while if you want to run some simulations: https://coinb.in/#feesYou'll see the wizard NEVER asks about the monetary value of the transaction you're creating. The only things that determine the fee are the number of inputs, the number of outputs, which kind of addresses were funded with the inputs and which kinds of addresses you're funding with the outputs... That's all At current optimal feerate, it was probably a transaction with ~50 inputs and ~2 outputs, unless he's using more "exotic" addresses, like multisig's, timelocked, p2sh's,... It doesn't matter if he was transacting $70000 or $70, a transaction with ~50 "normal" inputs and ~2 "normal" outputs would cost around ~$7 in fees

And you didn't provide a list of people who emailed you, how do they know if they're one of the first 16 Well, if they see the sha256 hash of their giveaway code in the list, they'll know they were one of the first 16. How do they know who are the winner if they don't know what their sha256 hash is They have the giveaway code, if they create a sha256 hash of the code they have at hand, they know their slot number, so they'll know if they won. On linux, it's basically: echo -n giveawaycode | sha256sum
On windows i have no idear, but you can use one of the many online tools to calculate a sha256 hash, like https://emn178.github.io/online-tools/sha256.html

Free Private Giveaway of a CHEAP, CHINESE, dropshipped keychain.I'm trying out Themos's new feature: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5226333Basically, in order to join this giveaway, you have to be at least a full member without negative trust from DT1. If you are elegible for the giveaway, follow these steps: - Visit https://bitcointalk.org/basic_giveaway.php?id=DWaUZwfERv to get a giveaway code
- send an email to mocagiveaway@gmx.com with this giveaway code AND a unfunded BITCOIN address you can use to sign a message to prove your identity (you don't have to use your real email addy, just create a free one on gmail, yahoo, gmx, protonmail, guerillamail, 10minutemail,... No link between your bitcointalk account and your email addy)
If you are one of the first 16 mails with a VALID giveaway code i receive, i'll put the sha256 hash of your giveaway code next to your slot (0-f) and announce a future block whose hash's last character is used to announce the winner. Once the giveaway is finished the winner has 48 hours to send a mail to mocagiveaway@gmx.com including his/her physical address (signed with the address in their original email) (including a phone number, so basically: your name, your street + number, your zipcode, your country, your phonenumber). The winner can also include his/her giveaway code for extra verification. You are allowed to PGP encrypt your reply email using my key that can be found on https://keybase.io/mocacinnoI'll then proceed to dropship the cheap keychain to the address i have received for the winning giveaway code. This way, there is no relation between the address receiving the keychain and your bitcointalk account. I have no idear if i'm giving a keychain to my best friend or my worst enemy... I have no idear if the receiver has been boasting about how many BTC he/she holds, or if he/she doesn't own a single satoshi... The only thing i know is that the receiver is full member (or higher) and doesn't have negative trust from DT1. Since this is my first time dropshipping anything, i really hope everything works as it should... It's dropshipping from china, so it could potentially take a long time before you receive the package (normally 4 to 6 weeks, however, with the corona virus it might even take longer). disclaimer: i'm testing out a new feature of the forum AND it's my first time dropshipping anything. IF, for some reason, there is a bug in the feature OR if something goes wrong with the dropshipping (including, but not limited to: not receiving the package, incurring extra custom charges,...) i take no responsability, i will not reimburse you, you cannot start a trial against me . Full disclosure, to test out the system, i'll probably enter my own hash into the table aswell this time. Won't happen next time tough... Also, if something goes wrong with the dropshipping, and any identifying information about me gets included in the box, i count on your discretion... Don't dox me for giving away a present! Self-moderated topic because i want to be able to remove anybody posting identifying info about him/herself or me. Let the games begin

Well, it seems it's kind of charity works, isn't it? Like, if I run a personal server (node) for electeum I am going to help other people trying to use electrum as a light wallet. For me, I don't need to trust anyone else as well. Then where is the different between running a electrum node and bitcoin core node? I guess nothing much. Both are same. Sorry for such question. It might be looking stupid question for you.
It's a mix between charity and running a node for yourself because you don't trust anybody else... There is a difference between running a full node and running an electrum node ON TOP of a bitcoin node: there's quite a bit of overhead, making the minimum specs for a full node smaller than for a full node + electrum node. I stopped running an electrum node, but i still run a full node...

--snip-- Bitcoin halving is about to take place and in this situation, the fees would gradually lower in amount. There is nothing new in this actually because the halving process is going to reduce the fees for each transaction to broadcast which is going to increase the demand for bitcoins which gradually would also rise the price for bitcoins. This is going to bring the bull runs soon so we all should remain close to bitcoins as we already are.
There is no technical correlation between the halving of the block reward and the average fee (in sat per vbyte) one has to pay in order to have a decent chance of getting your tx included in a block. It's not the fee that's being halved, it's the block reward. Read some more here: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Controlled_supply

I got what is Theymos's idea but sending a package with just an address and not a name when the package/gift you are receiving is expensive is risky. I wouldn't take a chance of not sending my name and just an address as if it's not sent because it has no name, I would need to submit ID and all to prove that package belongs to me. I don't know how it works in other countries but here in India, they check the name and then the address when it's at the post office/courier.
You should send your name aswell, so the sender will know your name + address (i always assume your full address includes your name anyways, that's why i didn't really get your question the first time). The thing the sender does not know is which bitcointalk account the name + address belongs to.
|
|
|
I'm still confused as in the mailing address as well people have lockers and have to specify the recipient's name on the gift so that the right person would receive it. If no name and just address is mentioned, how will it work? It will be an anonymous package then.
The sender has to have an address so he knows where to send the package. What Theymos's idear actually does is break the link between the bitcointalk account of the receiver and the physical address of the receiver that's being sent to the sender. In my case, i'll receive an address from the winner, i know this address belongs to one of the thousands of accounts that are >= full member without negative trust from DT1, but i have no idear what the bitcointalk username of the winner is, so i cannot link him/her to any posts he/she made on bitcointalk.
