I'm not really following the discussion, but maybe the broadcasting fails because of this

Quote
The replacement transaction must pay for its own bandwidth in addition to the amount paid by the original transactions at least by the rate set by the node's minimum relay fee setting. For example, if the minimum relay fee is 1 satoshi/byte and the replacement transaction is 500 bytes total, then the replacement must pay a fee at least 500 satoshis higher than the originals.

We apologise in advance for the lack of bells and whistles on the front-page
--snip--

I actually see this as something positive Smiley

Finally, a new mixer that doesn't include a MITM by opting to use cloudflare's CDN. You wouldn't believe how many times i had a discussion with mixer owners that found it to difficult to use certbot...

I'm happy with the mixing methods i'm currently using so i probably won't try out your mixer any time soon, but if i wasn't happy with my current sollutions, i'd actually try this one out.

ps: this is not an endorsement. I haven't tried this mixer. The only thing i'm saying is that at least this mixer didn't fall for the most obvious pitfalls, which is already a big plus.
1323  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Help]Mobile wallet on: August 20, 2020, 12:29:28 PM
Electrum is defenately a good candidate, however, i think there's a little misunderstanding from the OP's side:

Those wallets you listed are all HD wallets, addresses get derived from a master key, each time an old address gets used, a new one gets derived (actually, most of these wallets pre-derive a certain amount of addresses beforehand). However, these wallets do not delete the previous private keys/public keys/addresses once they're used. You can keep on using the same address, your wallet should still be able to sign transactions and messages funding/using previous addresses.

I quickly installed coinomi, created a testnet wallet, funded the first address, created a second address, then tried to sign a message using the first address, and it works like a charm. PS: i'm not a big fan of coinomi, i was just testing it out really quick.
1324  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: User Promoting Double Spend suspicious tool on: August 19, 2020, 05:37:48 AM
It's a tool that scams the scammer. I don't agree with this behaviour, but I do have to say there's some poetic justice here.

I'd chuckle if somebody came to the forum explaining how they installed malware because they tried to scam an honest seller.

That being said: good job, let's tag the person who's uploading this crap

1327  Economy / Goods / group buy => handmade BTC facemasks on: August 15, 2020, 08:25:58 AM
I'm working together with the owner of https://www.merel.mobi to start a group buy of

"custom, hand-made, bitcoin-themed facemasks"!

The masks are made of washable materials bought in the EU, and handmade by the store's owner.

These masks do not exist yet, there is no stock, they'll only be produced if i succeed in getting downpayments for >10 masks. Why? Because obtaining custom-printed, high-quality cotton is quite expensive. If i can't find 10 people that want a bitcoin facemask on Bitcointalk, the owner won't be able to ROI after having to buy the fabric.

The theme used for the masks will be very basic and look like this:

IF you own the rights to an other bitcoin-theme, we could defenately have a look at it, and see if we can get it custom-printed aswell!

This is how the facemasks will look (but using bitcoin-themed fabric)

It's perfectly fine to resell these items, or if you're from a big geographic area you can pool together to save on portage costs.

What's the price?
€12,5 + shipping & handling . Sending from Belgium, either tracked (and insured) or untracked (at receiver's risk)

preffered payment method = Bitcoin (on-chain or via the LN). LTC or ETH are also accepted.

How to get your own bitcoin-themed facemask?
  • contact me on this thread, or via PM. Tell me you country (not your address), the coin you'd like to use and the amount of masks you would like to buy
  • i'll be in rather close contact with the owner, so you'll get a quote in < 2 working days
  • if you accept the quoted amount, i'll send you an address or a lightning invoice (i can provide a signature with an address i staked back in 2016)
  • the owner wants a downpayment of at least 40% of the total quoted amount. The downpayment will be kept by me OR by a trusted thirth party bitcointalk escrow (buyer pays the escrow's fee). The downpayment is non-refundable in case you decide to get out of the deal. It is meant to cover part of the costs of the fabric the owner will buy.
  • as soon as 10 people have pre-ordered their facemask, the owner will order the custom-printed material and create the facemasks. There is no 100% guarantee the fabric will be 100% the same as the one in the picture (it'll depend on the printing company)
  • you'll have to send the rest of the money either to me or to a trusted escrow (exceptions can be made for highly trusted accounts). At this point, you'll also have to give me your address (can be encrypted using my private key, via email, via PM, or via privnote)
  • the masks will be shipped to you

If i don't succeed in finding 10 candidates before the end of september, all downpayments will be reimbursed 100%. Make sure i can contact you to exchange reimbursement details (either via PM or via e-mail).

If i do find at least 10 interested candidates, the first masks will probably be shipped around the end of September-first weeks of October.

I have a node that has been running for a long, long time... The hardware on my dedicated server is getting quite old, so i have no idear if it'll be online for the years to come, but for now, here it is Smiley
The thing is: i never publicly posted an announcement for this node, so i don't have a link to a post where this node was announced...

I have no idear if this would be a problem, so i signed the application with my staked address just to be sure Smiley

1329  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: pre-[ANN]: buy handmade facemasks, pouches, scarf's with bitcoin on: August 13, 2020, 07:50:56 AM
Hey OP. Went to buy a couple of items from the store, think I just got something sold out;)

Some feedback, in chronology:

1. Some of country dropdown options don't work even if I changed language to English. Had to type the country name in Dutch to find my location. Also to note in Chrome, if Google auto translates the page, some of the form options won't function as normal.

2. Wasn't clear for me about the Bitcoin options. Perhaps it should list just the primary Bitcoin option, and a secondary option that informs this will be a manual payment. I tried the one that says "Bitcoin or Litecoin" as I assumed the first option was Bitcoin on LN, which I'm not super confident about trying just yet =)

3. 1 problem trying to pay, when clicking Place an Order button, the website seems to try to load something at the bottom in an endless loop, and then I realised the error was from the coupon you supplied (error message was "discount code already used"). So I just deleted the code and it gave me just the 5% off (from using BTC I guess).

4. Order confirmed page: just shows me the BTC address, so I did a manual payment.

Apart from above feedback, overall experience was good, I actually prefer shopping sites that are stripped clean so they're fast.

@buwaytress: i'm not the owner of the shop, but i was allowed to keep an admin account, so i looked it up, and it seems the owner has already started processing your order Smiley

As for the feedback: thank you, all feedback is defenately appreciated. It's the first time i help setup a webshop, so there'll defenately be some things i overlooked.

In this specific case:
1) languages are difficult  Embarrassed. I started out with a plugin that allowed you to translate wordpress manually. But the owner lives in Belgium, so the text should have been translated from Dutch (the owner's language) to French and German (the other 2 languages in Belgium) and to English... And even then most of the world would be "forgotten". So we opted to use google's official translation plugin. I'm sad to hear it doesn't work 100%, so i'll be trying to see if i can tweak this plugin, or if there's a better one available next week.

2) I might have worded things a bit wrong. The first option (Bitcoin & LN) is basically using my btcpayserver as a backend. It allows on-chain (normal) bitcoin payments aswell as offchain (lightning) payments. The on-chain payments go to addresses derived from an xpub delivered to me by the owner, the off-chain payments actually go to me, and i foreward the money to the owner afterwards. But, btcpayserver is written in .net, and it's sloooooow... That's why i opted for a second option, which is a manual payment gateway. I do see the order was marked as being payed, so everything is ok Smiley

3) Sorry. I'll talk to the owner and see if there was a mistake... Maybe the discount code was single use or something... I'll talk to the owner and see if we can do a small refund for 10% of the total value, or if you're interested in the future group-buy give you a hefty discount to make up for your troubles.

4) Yup, that's because this was basically the "fallback" method. It's my fault tough, i should have worded things a bit better so it was clearer from the start. But the payment got trough perfectly fine Smiley
1330  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: pre-[ANN]: buy handmade facemasks, pouches, scarf's with bitcoin on: August 10, 2020, 01:40:02 PM
I had a talk with the owner today, and also added the feedback i got from examplens and slaman29. I'll try to answer all topics:
  • About the rough setup: yeah... It's basic. We opted for a default theme, no customisation and as little plugins as humanly possible. We opted for this because we wanted to have as little attack vectors as possible (hence keeping with custom themes and only a few plugins) and because the owner doesn't want to spend to much money in this phase of the project. I'll be tweaking everything a little bit more, and go over all settings with the owner later this week, but it'll probably stay a bit rough untill the onwer sees some revenue rolling in. (i know, you have to spend some money to make money, but this isn't my budget)
  • About covid + bitcoin: I do like the idear of having custom bitcoin (or bitcointalk) masks. I had a talk with the owner, and there's an option to do this. However, custom printed fabric is quite expensive, and the owner is afraid of ordering custom fabric, putting in time to make these masks, then not selling a single one due to bitcoin not being "mainstream". However, i was allowed to organise a group buy, if i manage to get 10 pre-orders, the owner will buy the custom fabric and produce such masks... I'll probably be testing the waters later this week/next week
  • About setting up similar stores: this has little to do with this particular store... I can certainly do this, but the pricerange may vary depending on what needs to be done. In this particular case i had to hold the owner's hand the whole way (and i had to do a lot of stuff by myself aswell). This includes helping with adding A, MX and TXT dns records, setting up a clean VPS, installing a LAMP stack, getting certbot to work, installing wordpress, installing woocommerce, getting everything to work together, getting postfix running, getting a paypal professional account, getting the payment methods setup, helping with social media accounts, helping with google and bing adwords. I didn't record my time, but it probably took me > 15 hours to set everything up. I usually ask $25/hr, so in this case this would have been a >$300 job... But like i said: it all depends on what's been asked from me. I recon i can get the job done in a couple of hours if somebody had a shared hosting account with a domain, ssl certificate and mail all setup, and already had a paypal account and no need for social media and adwords help...

EDIT: Almost forgot, the owner gave me a coupon code  Grin

bitcointalk2020
redeemable on https://www.merel.mobi

12% discount if you spend more than 10€, valid untill december 2020, not cumumlative with other coupon codes... But the owner gives 5% off if you pay with crypto and there's an introduction code for 10% off, so this code is better than the other ones.

One sidenote tough: this code should only be used when you pay with crypto... Don't use it if you're going to pay with paypal!

1332  Economy / Services / Re: Mpama's Free Bitcoin Acceleration Services on: August 01, 2020, 08:02:32 PM
TheUltraElite, the title says what it is - Free. I believe it's as simple as that.  However, I am still at a loss as to why you guys are making it look like it's something wrong offering to help others who may have a similar situation of need by all your antagonism. Why so?

This is a dilemma for me... You asked me (and others) not to talk in your thread anymore (i believe you were inferring we were sigspammers), now you ask why people like me keep "bugging" you while you're offering a free service. My gut tells me to answer your question in an honest way, so i'm really sorry if this offends you. I feel your question for an answer supersedes your request not to derail your thread. Sorry if i misjudged this. This is my last post in this thread anyway, so no need for a rant.

So, as a last attempt, i'll answer in this thread one more time, afterwards i'll put you on ignore, so i won't be tempted to reply in your thread ever again.

Personally, i wasn't trying to derail your thread, i wasn't trying to get a rise out of you, i wasn't trying to get you in troubles... I was merely trying to educate you (and other people) as to why rebroadcasting a transaction is not worth your time and effort, and i was trying to push you towards other methods that might have been more usefull... But you scoffed at me telling me "you don't need a lecture" while it was clear to me that you had a gap in your technical knowledge that stopped you from making a usefull service to begin with.

I can guess why others are giving you a hard time tough... Eventough you never clearly stated which methods you were using, it's rather obvious you're just rebroadcasting transactions using thirth party tools. By doing this, you give people false hope and try to bump your postcount and maybe score some tips when people's transactions eventually get confirmed (hint: most transactions will eventually get confirmed.... So taking the credit for this might rub people the wrong way). Things might have been a little different if you were upfront about which tools and techniques you used, and if people with more technical luggage felt the methods you used were at least semi-usefull.

To draw an analogy to a physical service: Your service is like a guy who borrows a hammer from a friend, then opens a free service that tries to fix cars but in the meantime plasters his walls with advertisements and tipjars. When somebody brings a car to your shop, you take the hammer you borrowed and give a few taps on the dashboard. If, by pure luck, the car just happens to start afterwards, you hope to get a tip. If it doesn't start: no worries, it was free anyways and at least your visitors saw your ads. In reality, however, you don't know what you're doing and you rely on pure luck to get the job done. You use (the wrong) tools delivered by somebody else (and you take away part of their income in the meantime). You create a sense of false hope, and try to cash in on this when (by sheer luck) things go your way.

Sorry to be this harsh, but you asked why people don't leave you be... You're part of a community that's pretty straightforward and where people do get called out if they're doing something that might not be okay. If people suspect you're doing something they don't agree with, they ask you follow up questions... And if you don't answer these questions, people start to get annoying. It's possible i'm 100% wrong and you do know what you're doing: in this case, i apologise...

I'll do you one better:  proof that you're able to get stuck transactions confirmed without relying on time or sheer luck . If you succeed in getting 95% of the transactions submitted in your thread confirmed within 3 hours, i'll publicly apologise and i'll probably even endorse your service (no guarantees tough)
1333  Local / Markt / Belgische webshop voor mondkapjes on: July 30, 2020, 02:17:12 PM

1334  Economy / Service Announcements / [ANN]: buy handmade facemasks, pouches, scarf's with bitcoin on: July 30, 2020, 02:05:32 PM
A friend of mine setup a small home-business selling handmade facemasks, pouches to store facemasks during the day, devices to keep wasps out of your beer, baby clothes, scarfs,... and is currently in the process of making all legal arrangements.

I was asked to help setup a webshop... Just wordpress and woocommerce with some plugins.
I know this person from the crypto community, so offcourse bitcoin payments are accepted... Sadly, the world isn't ready for a crypto-only shop, so next to crypto, also paypal, wire transfer and CC's via paypal are accepted (the owner is in the process of getting accepted with more payment providers).

Bitcoin payments happen trough my btcpay server, either on-chain or via the lightning network! (on-chain addresses get derived from an xpub given by the owner, offchain payments go to me, and i'll foreward an equal amount of BTC to the owner).

Since my btcpay server is a tad bit slow, i also used the "Nomiddleman Crypto Payments" plugin, which derives legacy addresses from an xpub and shows the QR code... This is basically a failover when the connection to my server times out.

Like i said, it's a pre-release... It's in dutch, but the automatic google translate menu can be found in the right bottom corner.

I'm not the owner, but the real owner does not visit bitcointalk anymore and has no intention of coming back in the near future, so you can look at me as this store's representative. If you have problems with this store: send them to me and i'll foreward them to the owner (usually within 1 or 2 days...).

I'll ask the owner for some bitcointalk-only discount codes and post them (if I get my hands on them)

1335  Economy / Services / Re: Mpama's Free Bitcoin Acceleration Services on: July 30, 2020, 01:19:30 PM
Well, what basically happened was that at the same time I asked Spider to help me out I used that window of waiting to forensically search the internet and discovered not just the Viabtc site but other sites where delayed transactions could be sped up. So, I sent the TX ID to one and then at  intervals resent it to make sure it comes afloat to be seen and picked by miners. It's either it got confirmed from my continual rebroadcast or from that of Spider's. Then I thought to myself when that was over, why not offer to help others here too who will need to be helped out of that moment of anxiety. That's why am offering this. That incident I had with my delayed transaction changed my horizon on an issue like that and I feel the obligation to give back to the community the little way I can.

Do realise that those rebroadcast services are basically only rebroadcasting transactions (hence the name). The default setting for bitcoin core (at least, my version) is to keep the valid unconfirmed transaction in it's mempool for 336 hours or untill the mempool size exceeds 300 Mb. So, unless you initially broadcasted your stuck transaction more than 336 hours ago, or unless the total size of the transactions in the mempool exceeds 300 Mb, rebroadcasting is allmost useless.

If your tx was stuck for less than 336 hours, and you only rebroadcasted it, you might aswell have done nothing.. You didn't have an impact on the fact your transaction got confirmed, you just got lucky and it would have gotten confirmed whether you rebroadcasted or not...

Next to ViaBTC, you also have antpool as a free alternative, but antpool only gives you tx a higher priority and does not guarantee a spot in their next block (AFAIK)
1336  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Privacy Wallet for Bitcoin. New implementation, not coinjoin. First announcement on: July 30, 2020, 09:20:28 AM
I must confess i didn't completely read the links you posted (i have to be in an online meeting in 12 minutes). I quickly scanned them tough, and i've read the other posts in this discussion.

Am i right in my understanding that you're basically exchanging BTC for an altcoin with better security features and call this altcoin pBTC. Then, you transact using pBTC instead of BTC and in the end users can exchange the pBTC back for real BTC and withdraw?

What's the difference between this setup and, for the sake of argument, use coinomi (not a fan of coinomi, but any wallet with an exchange functionality built in will do), fund you wallet with BTC, exchange for XMR, transact with XMR, change it back to BTC and withdraw?

I might be missing some key pieces here due to the lack of time i've spent on this... So do enlighten me...
1337  Economy / Services / Re: Mpama's Free Bitcoin Acceleration Services on: July 30, 2020, 08:10:25 AM
So, you had a transaction that wasn't being confirmed, an other user had to help you out, and now you're offering a (free) service doing something you couldn't do before... What changed?

By the way, there are a couple real services that do work: viabtc (they accept 100 tx/hr, but you need a fee of at least 10 sat/byte). Antpool also has a service that allows you to increase your priority in their pool (but only slightly), so a very low fee tx still won't make it into their blocks.
Next to this, a couple big pools allow you to pay for tx acceleration... Just don't pay anybody who isn't a verified big pool owner, there are many scammers out there...

There are also technical things you can do: talk a user trough creating a CPFP, or helping him to bump his fee if the original tx was opt-in RBF, or helping him double spending the unspent output in a new transaction with a higher fee, or helping him keep rebroadcasting the tx untill it gets into a block eventually....
1338  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: I Need Loan Some 2.1 LTC (Litecoin) on: July 28, 2020, 11:11:47 AM
--snip--

It's considered a worthy one. TRX is on top 20 alts and at least for now, that makes it easy to liquidate at any time in almost any exchanger.
I agree though that it's not worth the fuss to earn a dollar, on the other hand, you make the offer. Wink

For me, it's weird that even if you make a very tempting offer for the OP, he vanishes without a single answer... Undecided

Yeah, i know, i did make the offer. And I was serious and willing to go trough with it when i made said offer.
However, I received a PM from the OP shortly after posting my initial reply in this topic. I'm not going to go into details (they're private), but he wasn't happy with some of the aspects of the deal I posted. And because i clearly stated it was a take-it-or-leave-it deal, it was no longer worth my time renegotiating for 1€ profit, so i decided to step out of the thread and give other lenders the opportunity to step in (in case they were interested).

I should have worded my reply a bit differently, but at the time i didn't feel it was necessary to divulge the fact i had exchanged a PM with the OP, and it is still true i know very little about TRX, so any advice pro or contra was more than welcome.

I do hope the OP gets his loan, just not from me (anymore) Wink
1339  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Unconfirmed Transaction on: July 28, 2020, 07:03:58 AM
I wanted to add that @jackg did have a good point when he said it might be better to delete the tx and create a new one without ever broadcasting the old one (he did miss the part that the "old" transaction was never broadcasted at all, but this doesn't change the first part of the post is still valid). I'd take this route because you created the transaction 2 days ago, the recommanded fee will have changed in these 2 days, so if you broadcast this local transaction, you'll probably either overpay or underpay (neither is ideal). The odds the average feerate 2 days ago was more or less equal to the one right now is rather small.
1340  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: I Need Loan Some 2.1 LTC (Litecoin) on: July 28, 2020, 06:12:43 AM
@TheUltraElite: thanks for stepping in... After your post, i quickly scanned some articles about TRX, and it indeed looks like a coin that's currently in the process of swapping? Since i only asked about 1€ intrest for a lot of work, I don't want to get involved any longer... It's just not worth my time and effort having to look into this altcoin to see if it's a worthy collateral.
