17201  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk English Premier League pool betting Discussion Thread on: September 09, 2017, 04:05:11 PM
This looks like another weekend of mediocre to really bad results for me.  I really suck at this.  Sad

Anyway, good luck to the rest.  I could still continue playing for fun but it's pretty clear that I won't be in the money at any point in the game.  Some players are really good and consistent.

I'm actually playing for fun in any event. I daresay I'm overperforming but the season's barely 10% done so let's not get ahead of or behind ourselves. There are a few actual tipsters in our pool, so we always knew we were up against pros Wink

Week 4? This has been the most painful Liverpool game to watch in a really long time. The Mane sending off really rekt my bets. So far, only 1 correct exact prediction (Chelsea's 2-1) and two correct outcomes for 60 points. Not sure why I keep sticking to minor shock outcomes with Hotspurs and Man Utd, but if Stoke give me a 1-1 draw today, it'll be a nice round 100. Maybe two correct outcomes tomorrow if I change my mind to side with the bookies...

17202  Economy / Speculation / Re: another day, another dip, another buy the dip on: September 09, 2017, 03:53:09 PM
i am back again with another buy the dip Smiley
this time i am a little late myself.

as the news about China heats up the panic of the weak hands is also heating up. if we see another news from China and another dip it would be a great chance ot start buying some coins in case you msised out or in case you want a bigger profit from these weak hands.

in any case brace yourself and get the cash ready to buy at the bottoms of the dips. and enjoy  Kiss

The dips haven't really been pronounced when looking at BTC values, actually, since it's really Bitcoin's price that's moving alt prices (being tied to BTC value). Without fresh capital to get into buying mode, the only real way to take advantage of these dips are to trade in Tether. So I've been mainly a bystander over the last few months (or since July anyway), or trying to request payments for my work during the dips (doesn't really work though).

Now considering if I should invest in Tether simply for this purpose. Stayed away from that option for too long, perhaps?
17203  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: September 09, 2017, 01:01:23 PM
Looks like I'm headed for a loss on the Liverpool picks (I had a Liverpool victory and a Mane to score straight bets).

The Mane dismissal was the turning point... he should have taken a yellow instead. Yes, he took out the keeper, but it was way out of the penalty box, effectively it was a 50-50 on an outfield player. Anyone could see he had no intention. Not even the home crowd or players expected the red. What I'm disappointed in is how shell-shocked the team looked after. One bad decision to turn the entire game on its head.

My only consolation is I'll make money off the over 2.5 goals... so it wasn't a totally bad outing. Would have taken a Liverpool 1-0 win any day though.
17204  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-09-09] Bitcoin Price Sinks Below $4,200 on China Uncertainty on: September 09, 2017, 12:35:21 PM
But its currently trading at above $4300 now from a high of $4700 just a couple of days ago. China is shaking bitcoin today and the fake news really had a impact, just like when that announce that they are banning ICO's as well. Are they really putting the ban hammer on bitcoin or they just want to established a tighter regulation surrounding it? I can't understand why they are suddenly making U-turn on bitcoin, do they consider it really a threat to their yen? This remains to be seen in the next weeks or so if the price will continue to go down or recover.

Fake news or rumour, or eventual partial facts, don't take away some amazing evidence of Bitcoin resilience in the space of five days. If a 10-20% dip is all that such potential catastrophes can threaten, then I think we have little to worry about long term.

Another new observation for me: where previously we've seen Korean and Japanese exchanges hit the highest prices - even 10% more than market average - when demand spikes, we now see Chinese exchanges on the other end of that spectrum. 10 to 15% below market averages are quite unique... why wouldn't they just have sold at other exchanges, I wonder.
17205  Economy / Gambling / Re: BetKing.io Relaunched! 100% deposit bonus. BTC, ETH, LTC DICE betting on: September 09, 2017, 11:09:02 AM
Just checked back on the site and found the new x100 wager promotion. Just want to be clear on the rules before I deposit: what does the 0 edge mean? I saw that the dice edge on x2 payout was still 1% (49.5 win chance). Will this adjust to a 50% win chance on x2 if we claim the deposit bonus? And this works for all currencies equally, correct?
It's a 0% edge because with a 1% house edge (the base dice game itself) there is a statistical return of 0.99 for each given bet. Since this promo requires you to wager 100x your deposit, you are expected a return of 0 for the game after wagering that amount but are also given your deposit back. Thus the two cancel out and you have a return of 1.

Ah, thanks for that! Makes perfect sense now, who says there's nothing new to learn every day, eh? Still a better edge than most deposit bonuses out there, I would say, although in a statistical sense the deposit bonus will give you a larger total wager. Not helpful for returns but certainly a boost for leveling requirements if there were a wager-based loyalty system.
17206  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin, Ethereum and Litecoin in lockstep on: September 08, 2017, 10:33:41 PM
When the first uptake happened around end of 2016 and early 2017 (I would only have been months into Bitcoin at the time), I thought the pattern to be coincidence too. But it happened especially during the spring boom - although this was the move that about 90% of alts followed - even Dogecoin! Even after the two individual spikes of Litecoin, and the more recent one of Monero, they then follow Bitcoin's moves in tandem. Also would be glad to see more insight from others.
17207  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-09-08] Caixin: China is said planning to shut local bitcoin exchanges on: September 08, 2017, 07:17:29 PM
Yeah, I saw a couple of local sites also posting regarding Chinese fake news from today, but they were all taken down without snapshots available. It seems that a few platforms have also confirmed this is fake news, but have no evidence against it either. Worst-case scenario, this is a rumour of some planned restrictions or additional layers of verification on exchanges. In which case, this dump is the worst we'll see for a while. Will be at least tomorrow before more hard news will surface on Chinese news portals.
17208  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk English Premier League pool betting Discussion Thread on: September 08, 2017, 11:51:54 AM
Hello again guys, welcome back from international break! I'm all Liver, so extremely excited about tomorrow's first match, and don't mind sharing that I've got a number of bets on the game. A Liverpool victory of course offers such good value at more than 4.1 at Bitcoinrush and Nitrogensports , my own score prediction is at 3-1.

If the game plays as we all expect (attack attack!), non-Bitcoin bookies got Mane to score at >7/1 is also a good bet, I think, as well as corners over 10.5.

Also, welcome to BetAdviser, thanks for adding a generous sum to the pool even with your penalty! For the record, if there's any agreement to add the lowest score as ciccio suggests, I'd support it.

17210  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-09-06] Why You Should Worry About A Bitcoin, Crypto Bubble on: September 08, 2017, 09:08:16 AM
He's right that bank rules have never been tougher since 2008. ...

The most damning development is that Trump is actually about to roll back several of the restrictions
that have been put in place in the US after the financial crisis:
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/news/donald-trump-dodd-frank-major-haircut-banking-law-regulation-loan-money-promise-slash-a7667331.html

That means that banks not only didnīt get their licenses pulled, but they will actually have less compliance costs in the future.
As much as I agree with Trump on several other issues, he is really creating a windfall (several billion $ per year)
for the US banking industry with these Dodd-Frank rollbacks.

That's right. Not only do banks get away with a chiding, they then get a Trump-style wink of the eye and are rewarded for their misdeeds. For all the noise that the US government is making about overseas monies and tax losses from errant earners, internationally, American banks have always been seen as the next best thing in terms of tax havens. Business is getting brisker with the noose tightening on all the recognised offshore jurisdictions, and the US is pipped to be the next favourite destination of the world for stashing away their millions.

All the lip service moaning about other havens and Bitcoin skirting their precious FATCA, while Rothschild and co continue to ignore OECD's international common reporting standards.

17211  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈🏈NFL Survivor Pool - PICKS DISCUSSION 🏈🏈🏈 on: September 08, 2017, 06:23:42 AM
90 people picked Patriots in the Free Pool, so yesterday's shock loss should have killed off about 20% of the competition... except in the statistics page it shows that there are 377/430 players left. So not sure how the numbers are tallied or if I misunderstood calculations. Hoping the same thing doesn't happen in my game, although I did pick the slight bookie favourite.

Interestingly, Patriots were also joint favourites in the 25mBTC pool, but Bills are #1 choice in the 5mBTC pool.
17212  Economy / Exchanges / Re: registring with an exchange on: September 07, 2017, 02:50:25 PM
Bittrex and Localbitcoins are the ones I still use regularly and both have automated verification for low-level (or the first level) verification. Software-handled, so it just detects the details of the documents you submit and cross-checks against whatever internal database they use. Worked for me in minutes and opens up a substantial daily limit which I will probably never exceed in this lifetime. I also opened an account at viabtc exchange when I needed to unload my BCH, and they had a similar setup. If I recall, even a phone verification is all you need to unlock several thousand dollars daily limits.

Try them out if you're having problems. This isn't an endorsement of any, mind you.
17213  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-09-06] Why You Should Worry About A Bitcoin, Crypto Bubble on: September 07, 2017, 01:30:33 PM
He's right that bank rules have never been tougher since 2008. But take a look at the vulgar scale of financial crime uncovered by the banks since 2008. They just keep getting higher and higher. And guess what? Tougher rules don't seem to bring repercussions worse than fines and stiff warnings - the economic equivalent of a slap on the wrist.

Not one bank has been faced with criminal charges, or had their licenses stripped. Ask any big bank for their budgets and you will find many millions earmarked for bank fines and compliance penalties. That's right, they budget for these fines and penalties because they still make a hell lot more evading the "tough rules" in place. Crime has and will continue to pay for them.

That's what we should be afraid of. Not the "bubbles, scams and crashes" of crypto.
17214  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2018 World Cup qualifications, UEFA zone, discussion and information thread on: September 07, 2017, 10:36:10 AM
when the winning results was mandatory but Argentina failed and they're playing less of goals even in my country there is a news that Messi is the main cause why Argentina cannot win however maybe it's time to Argentina not too rely on Messi if Argentina failed goes to world cup i think that would be the biggest failed in the history
it is a really disappointing result for the Argentine fans. day by day thier qualification for the world cup is getting difficult. if Chili won the then it will be more trouble for them. I think Argentina needs a great leader in this situation.
Messi is a great player but he is not a good leader as well as a good influencing person among the team. so in spite of a good side, they are able to win against in this situation.

Man, it's impossible to catch a break if you're considered a cult hero even if you never asked for it. There is no main cause in football results, if you are looking for someone to blame. Not the manager, not the referee, certainly not one player. It's a collective failure that has to be borne by all the players. Or it could be a mix of luck. I've played football myself and on a lucky day my miserably talentless team can beat a really good team on luck. And on some days, no matter how much you run, how painful your lungs are, how hard you fly into tackles, you just can't beat the goalpost.

That said, yes, there is too much of a reliance on Messi. See how Uruguay don't rely on Suarez nor Brazil on Neymar. For that matter, how Portugal don't rely on Ronaldo. Give Messi a break, too. Who said he had to be a great leader on the pitch? Who made him captain? Too much pressure, too much to ask even of a football demi-god.
17215  Economy / Goods / Re: (Gauging Interest)"lowkey" stylish bitcoin apparel on: September 07, 2017, 07:52:00 AM

Hey buwaytress, thanks for your comments! Don't worry, I'll be sure to message everyone who is interested in the apparel. These are just the preliminary designs, only ~20% of our current designs.

The other accessories following our mission of creating fashionable bitcoin and crypto apparel will follow if our initial release performs well.

Thanks for that, monbux, appreciate the PM! I look out for sports apparel that complements clothing. Main reason I don't go for actual wear is size, since it is a bit difficult to find good fits when buying online. Whereas the items like I mentioned - sweatbands, shoe slingbags, ball nets, racquet covers... these are pretty much free-size and actually can make a simple logo like Bitcoin more prominent.

You also mention jerseys? That would also be an option to look at. Those lightweight pullovers you wear in training, just the kind you wear over a proper jersey to differentiate teams (we call them practice bibs here)? I would be willing to get 6-12 of those for a young adult futsal team.

Looking forward to the rest of your designs!
17216  Economy / Gambling / Re: BetKing.io Relaunched! 100% deposit bonus. BTC, ETH, LTC DICE betting on: September 07, 2017, 06:48:24 AM
Oh damn me. Made my Litecoin withdrawal, saw that it was processed today and logged on to BetKing only to discover that the first deposit bonus is off. Those wager tallies keep on adding up, though, so looks like the launch was a success. Will check back later to see what new promos are up. Damn you abusers, but really have people got all that time to spend hours to clear wager requirements?

P.S. Good to recognise troll traps.
17217  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NEXT GAME IN 8HOURs -Sportstips - Basketball/tennis/soccer🔥Wins 122- Loss 26🔥 on: September 07, 2017, 06:29:44 AM

It sounds like a good project. I will post an update about how they forecast or run their prediction model this friday.

Last game was a win.

Going for a small side bet for today:

B Bryan / M Bryan v F Lopez / M Lopez - Bryan Brothers ML

Betslip for Reference

Also be sure to check out MAGOS . They are doing some predictive modeling on Sports and other things using an algorithm based system.

Good luck if you guys tail!

Yeah, thanks for that. Slim 1-0 win for Finland but a good return of 70%.

I took the time to read through MAGOS actually and it does seem to have one of the more impressive technical papers for prediction systems. If the results are legitimate, then there's good reason to believe the system works - but there's no real way (for me, anyway) to validate or verify those results. Are you familiar with the channels they used and would you be able to conduct some due diligence?

Also, interested to hear your thoughts about sustainability. Prediction algorithms tend to fail after a while, as they can't keep up with changing trends, players, etc. And with these arbitrage and predictive projects going around, surely sportsbooks are countering these automated models?
17218  Economy / Goods / Re: (Gauging Interest)"lowkey" stylish bitcoin apparel on: September 06, 2017, 03:49:26 PM
I didn't sign up to the mailing list (even if I did, I would probably never read the updates anyway) but I am interested in very low-key items that subtly say Bitcoin/crypto. Definitely agree, Bitcoin-themed clothing are a bit too geeky/blatant/unstylish.

Small items, not necessarily clothing but possibly within the sports apparel category. You know those small sports sling bags for shoes/footie, for example? Or for a girl, a sweatband for the wrist (for basketball or racquet games, you know those type?). Much rather get those than other branded apparel, which probably cost more anyway. I would say why, but maybe not for the public to read =)
17219  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Signature Campaign Question on: September 06, 2017, 03:17:09 PM
As far as I know, there are no rules against leaving one sig campaign to join another, unless otherwise specified as part of the campaign rules.

On one hand, participants should be able to choose, prioritising campaigns based on actual interest (for example, to help promote a project you support), forum activity (for example, if you only post in local boards, you might choose to switch to campaigns that allow that) or simply on remuneration (the chief reason people switch).

On the other, there are reasons why signature campaigns on this forum provide significant value to projects. Campaign owners get more value from participants in the former bracket... somewhat of an association by reputation, if you like. So it is in the interest of the forum and campaign managers to ensure this feature maintains that value.

Beyond being an annoyance, switching campaigns repetitively might affect your reputation among campaign managers.

I switched campaigns once - a partisan act to promote a project based in my region (QTUM). I've remained with every campaign to the end since.
17220  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Cloud mining on: September 06, 2017, 01:02:38 PM
There's a lot to be said about cloud mining but I will summarise it here for you: cloud mining sites are not profitable. There is no easy way to passive profits, certainly not for newbies with limited capital. Even the most reputable ones have plenty of problems, the biggest and oldest one, Genesis, has been delaying payments for weeks now and Google will show that there are enough people out there who end up disappointed when their "lifetime" contracts stopped becoming profitable even before their initial outlay is returned. To break even, more than 6 months is typically required.

The best advice is to stay away if you don't know how to calculate potential income. Sites like eobot do offer a way to cloud mine without putting down any investment by simply using their daily faucets to re-invest into buying hashpower. They also have their own pools and support cloud folding for Gridcoin and Curecoin, so I wouldn't call them a scam rightaway. However, at best, they give you the same returns as a faucet site. So if you really think spending time online for a few "free" satoshi is worth it, then you're probably better off hitting faucets.
