17261  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why Bitcoin may now level off... on: December 03, 2013, 10:06:39 PM
OP makes excellent points.  I've raised them in the past myself.  Bitcoin has already sold itself as a "whole" Bitcoin, with all the fancy "coin" images on every new story and the fact that it wasn't changed to mBTC sooner.  All news pricing is in whole Bitcoins.  People don't want to buy fractions of something.  They are not stupid.

Actually they are stupid, if they weren't they would understand that this is a non-issue.

+1

If you think Bitcoin should be affordable as a whole unit and used the world over with a supply of 21 million, you are clearly not thinking things through very well.

17264  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTS] 7970 Sapphire Vapor-X for BTC/LTC on: December 03, 2013, 09:26:08 PM
I have a Sapphire 7970 with noisy ball bearings that sound like they are failing.  The fan still spins and it mines without issues, but it is annoyingly loud.  I'm currently mining LTC with it, so I am not looking to give it away, but I would take the right price to get the noise out of my house.  If you have an aftermarket 7970 cooler, a spare stock 7970 cooler, or you don't care about noisy ball bearings, this might be a good opportunity for you.

Will consider offers in BTC/LTC or NastyFans.org seats.

THIS ORIGINAL ITEM WAS SOLD.  I HAVE ANOTHER FOR SALE WITH BALL BEARINGS THAT ARE NOT NOISY, BUT IT HAS SEIZED UP IN THE PAST.  A LITTLE CANNED AIR GOT IT RUNNING AS GOOD AS NEW.

How are the dividends going to work for the coins? They're rapidly approaching (if not already) dust status for individual seats. I don't really see how you can do a web interface to control payouts with the coins.

We've discussed a few options.  A threshold is the most obvious and easiest solution.  I prefer to think that the dust issue with Bitcoin is going to be addressed by the developers at some point, especially with the recent rise in value.  BTC has all of those decimal places for a reason, to think that dust will be a problem long term is a mistake in my opinion.  Nevertheless, we will address it.

I'm happy to report that 54 coins were sold on Black Friday.  Thanks to everyone who ordered so far!
17269  Economy / Securities / Re: [NastyFans.org] NASTY MINING | NASTY POOL on: November 30, 2013, 01:44:20 AM
The minted seats are great, but it's a pretty steep price for 1oz silver.

Well, 1/2 the cost is a donation to NastyFans.  Even so, I think pricing is in-line with other products.  We also have a much lower price entry point.  Here's a cost comparison of another available coin for the sake of argument.

Lealana 1oz Silver 1 BTC Coin
Total Cost with shipping: 1.26 BTC
Cost with shipping minus contents: 0.26 BTC

NastyFans 1oz Silver 1 Seat Coin
Total Cost with shipping: 0.27 BTC
Cost with shipping minus contents: 0.22 BTC

Definitely the most interesting piece in my silver stack.
they are fantastic!
pictures don't do it justice... The minting on the face of the coin picks up the minute details of the design wonderfully...and the holographic reverse displays a beautiful psychedelic composition.

  • 39mm in Diameter
  • Tamper-Evident Security Hologram (first 150 w/ Diffusing Insert)
  • Engraved Public & Private Keys
  • Sequential Public Key Vanity Addresses (i.e. 1Nastyxx)
  • Limited 500 Coin Production Batch
  • Sealed in Plastic Airtite Capsule
  • 50% of Sales Donated to NastyFans
  • Coin Analyzer available at nastyfans.uberbills.com

These coins are similar to physical bitcoins you see from Casascius and others.  I'll highlight a few of the major differences.

First of it's kind!  Coins are tied to NastyFans seats and not preloaded with BTC.  By not preloading these coins with BTC, they are not only cheaper to purchase than their competitors, but the potential is there for the BTC address engraved on the coin to continue rising forever with regular NastyFans BTC distributions, as opposed to being a fixed amount as with similar physical Bitcoin options.  It's like having a Bitcoin miner with no costs or effort to maintain.

No more printed keys!  These keys are engraved, and forever attached to the coin.  Light diffusing material is inserted between the engraved private key and the hologram to help alleviate security concerns.

No more firstbits!  Your entire public key is engraved on the coin, eliminating any uncertainty that may exist about your coin's public address.

Sequential vanity Bitcoin addresses!  Know exactly what coin number you hold by the public address.  Each coin begins with 1Nasty and is sequentially numbered with the following two characters.

Limited production batch!  Only 500 coins produced.  Being tied to seats instead of BTC also makes these coins extremely limited, as there are a limited # of NastyFans seats.

Revenue sharing!  With 50% of sales being donated to NastyFans, this is a giant fundraiser for all NastyFans.  You know your funds are going back to the Bitcoin community and helping to support a great organization that is dedicated on doing good for Bitcoin.  It is my hope that these coins will provide happiness to existing fans, while at the same time exposing NastyFans to a new group of potential members.

17275  Economy / Securities / Re: [NastyFans.org] NASTY MINING | NASTY POOL on: November 28, 2013, 09:33:32 AM
We have a ~2,000% increase in hashing power on the way whenever BFL & CoinTerra start shipping their next-gen devices.  Once those devices arrive, the donations will be much larger.

Has there been any news on when we can expect shipping on those orders?

Nope. I think they're both now shooting for the end of January.
17276  Economy / Securities / Re: [NastyFans.org] NASTY MINING | NASTY POOL on: November 27, 2013, 10:01:30 PM
Will it be possible to mint more then 1 seat on a coin?

While there is no way to mint more than 1 seat to a coin, you could use the coin's public address as your donation address for all your seats if you so desired (same result).

Please wait until more information is released tomorrow night before asking more questions.  I'd hate to spoil all the surprises and my excitement is keeping me from staying quiet. Smiley
17277  Economy / Securities / Re: [NastyFans.org] NASTY MINING | NASTY POOL on: November 27, 2013, 09:24:43 PM
This minted seat concept is weird, but interesting!

How will you keep the private key stamped on the coins secret from your coin producer, NastyFans staff, the delivery people, etc, etc...

The private keys were generated on my home computer.  I personally will be the only personal handling these coins prior to their private keys being secured.  I don't think these seats/coins require any additional trust compared with owning a regular seat.  I will not be holding onto any private key information.  If you trust me, you can trust your private key will remain secret.

More details will be released tomorrow night.

Also, OP images fixed.
17278  Economy / Securities / Re: [NastyFans.org] NASTY MINING | NASTY POOL on: November 27, 2013, 06:55:16 AM
Post #1 looks broken

Indeed.  The problem is on the forum's end, or actually a service it uses to protect users from compromising their IPs by directly loading images.  I'm not sure if it is something that is going to persist and require a change on our end, or if it will be sorted out by the forum/service.

I did want to leave this render here for your viewing pleasure.

EDIT:
New 1g silver Nasty Pool coins to become available soon as well (both products are in-hand already).

17279  Economy / Securities / Re: [NastyFans.org] NASTY MINING | NASTY POOL on: November 26, 2013, 10:16:37 PM
Can someone explain in plain English why the dividends (sorry - donatations) seem to be so terribly low?  Bitcoin is up 900% and I got about $1 in dividends for my 15 seats.

Am I expecting too much?

We have a ~2,000% increase in hashing power on the way whenever BFL & CoinTerra start shipping their next-gen devices.  Once those devices arrive, the donations will be much larger.
17280  Economy / Securities / Re: [NastyFans.org] NASTY MINING | NASTY POOL on: November 21, 2013, 08:05:52 AM
Maybe let people set their own payment schedule? There is already a mechanism to hold the donations for probation accounts. That could be extended to all accounts.

I like this idea. But it must be limited to choice. Maybe 1-week/2-week/4-week/8-week. Batch payments must happen to save tx fees.

Also realize that donation distributions do not care about auction. Who has the seat on the distribution gets all donations for that seat. If you use 8-week donation distribution and sell a seat 1 day before distribution all 8 week donations go to new owner. I will not implement logic so 7.2359 weeks donations go to old owner and 0.7641 weeks donations go to new owner. Such a feature introduces many complexity and corner cases. As example a seat changing owners many times within 1 week or old owners no longer members.

I'd rather see a system in place where the user could set a minimum payout threshold.
