17381  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-08-17] Coinbase Awarded Patent for Bitcoin Security Concept on: August 17, 2017, 05:03:02 PM
Ah, the "world's most popular way to buy and sell..." Last week, you were recognised for being the first "Bitcoin Unicorn", today you gets a patent. I suppose if you keep filing patents, one is going to be accepted at some point. I can only imagine if Satoshi and others queued to file their own patents. For Coinbase and the Bitcoin Foundation, just another badge to add gloss to an already shiny corporate skin.
17382  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-08-16] Africa to benefit as satellites beam Bitcoin from space on: August 17, 2017, 04:46:23 PM
It does not provide internet access, but rather a channel directly to the Blockchain, with a initial cost of $100 US. Most

3rd world country citizens will not pay that to have access to the Blockchain. I can see small spaza shops doing this, to

enable them to receive bitcoins. < similar to a internet café >

Yeah, I got that it doesn't provide Internet =) Was just saying that up til now, it was the only way you could access to the Bitcoin network there, so this is great news for the continent. Large swathes of it will not have Internet for years to come.

Small shops serving up Bitcoin payments? That's definitely a start! Plenty of Ethiopians and Kenyans with shops in E Africa, with at least part of the necessary equipment already.
17383  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could a future hard fork save Bitcoin from Quantum Computing? on: August 17, 2017, 02:02:26 PM
The suggestions that quantum computing could kill bitcoin are made by people who don`t know anything about quantum computers or the blockchain.
I think that the human civilization would need decades to make quantum computers cheap and available for the majority of people.I don`t see this as a threat, perhaps this is an opportunity to improve even further all the crypto technologies.

In other words, you're saying that the scenario that would make this threat possible will arrive in mere decades? Even the brightest minds often fail to correctly estimate how quickly home computers are able to advance.

Here's an article about very smart people who knew a lot about their field (computers and tech mainly)... and yet made a few wrong calls. Nothing wrong with making mistakes but point is, what's wrong with ideas?
17384  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How much money is needed to bank roll a bitcoin casino? on: August 17, 2017, 01:27:42 PM
At that level of individual play you're looking at up to:
  • BTC0.0049 to bankroll 100 winning players per day
  • BTC0.049 to bankroll 1000 winning players per day

Just an example, but that's how you can start thinking about the assumptions. Once you dial in the assumptions for what you believe is most accurate you'll get a good start on a bankroll figure...then adjust as you get things moving.

The example is totally flawed.
Even now there are players who do a 0.049 BTC bet with no hands shaking. For got sake we are talking about 200$, that's taxi money.
If we're talking about a serious casino with medium traffic compared to the existing ones be prepared to have at least 100 times the amount you mentioned.

It was just a starting point. He did say average player, and I'm actually pretty sure that once you take the hundreds of faucet testers and lump them together with your $200 player, you might end up with a low average per player. Take into account how time a casino will need to build trust and reputation before attracting a $200 wager player and you see that small average amount even likelier for a brand new casino.

I think your bankroll has to take into account a LOT of other factors though. Especially if you're the sole bankroller. Like habbear said, estimating an average payout you might bleed based on # and type of players you expect. I would add your risk appetite for variance. Yes, house eventually wins, but you may experience wild variance against you early on. You should prepare for that. Limit max win? Trigger a lower max limit/jackpot every time it is hit?
17385  Economy / Services / Re: Looking for a writer, convert article into narrative for video on: August 16, 2017, 08:11:14 PM
Just to vouch for onemd and WhyFuture's AI projects: they have been quite complicated and intensive, especially the academic papers, but have always been serious and paid promptly. In fact, the project awarded bonuses on top of payments for all the work I've accepted and completed (I believe it has been 4 assignments already).

I believe serious applicants won't find any issue communicating with onemd.

You can check his/my feedback, although it is only for the latest assignment. I rather neglected using the feedback feature in the past.
17386  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-08-16] Africa to benefit as satellites beam Bitcoin from space on: August 16, 2017, 02:08:47 PM
This is not short of amazing, having worked in a lot of near-zero Internet places. My last job in East Africa had us relying on very expensive satellite from a Danish ISP.

I just checked Blockstream and if the network status map is correct, the Africa satellite coverage only misses out Somalia, Madagascar and part of Ethiopia. The only issue now is the hardware needed according to GH. I know if I set that up in the places I worked in, I would also require security guards to make sure they stay where there are!

Came pretty close with the last round, though not as close as V8 and that was me overestimating my original guess. So here's another overestimation. Thanks as always for hosting this game phillip!
17388  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] ChipMixer - mixing reinvented on: August 16, 2017, 01:41:33 PM
After bitmixer closure volume went up and donations went up but support requests went up (customers were used to simpler mixing process) and donation percentage went down (customers were used to automatic fee deduction).

We are thinking about adding ChipMixerLite version that would work exactly like old BitMixer - you send output addresses, receive signed contract, send coins and wait a few hours to get them. The good part would be simplicity. The bad part would be split of mixers volume and less privacy. What do you think about it?

You probably should wait, collect data on customer habits for a while longer to see if the pattern change was temporary or if it is indeed shifting. Personally, I feel that this slight difference with ChipMixer is unique and identified only with the service - maintaining it keeps the message, useful if you're interested in reenforcing your brand. Don't worry. People will get used to it eventually and if they're concerned about mixing in the first place, they will want to insist on using the more private option.
17389  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: PLease push my TX on: August 16, 2017, 12:59:12 PM
my 1st got 3 confirmed...but 2nd still unconfirm... is that will going confirm automatically ?
Well buwaytress submitted your 1st tx of course it will get confirmed. For your 2nd tx try to submit yourself xD

no luck with via btc Cheesy

Patience, my friend. Both transactions have now been confirmed. Your first one minutes after submitting for acceleration... it's pretty confounding that >110 sats per byte was unconfirmed after almost 20 hours.

The second one confirmed on its own in under an hour, just 7 blocks later just 14 minutes ago. As I said, the fees for 2nd one was sufficient and took care of itself. Try not to spend unconfirmed coins in future!

~snip

I usually used CloudBet, the reason is I don't actually understand NitrogenSports

If I want to bet on Guangzhou in Guangzhou vs Shanghai, I' bet 1
If I wanted to bet on Shanghai I'd bet 2
If I wanted to on a draw I'd bet X
That's the system I'm familiar with
However
http://prntscr.com/g95eme
How the hell does that work  Cheesy

Also, I've just noticed Cloudbet has some really bad odds compared to my local bookies

Heh, don't worry even I used to get extremely confused by the different systems sportsbooks use. My preference is European + decimals but one of my favourite bookies forces me to use American or Fractional so I've begun to get used to that as well.

Nitrogensports is almost similar, except it shows American and decimal format. Basically, ML means Moneyline and that's what you're looking for. You choose your winning team on ML option or you choose the draw. The first two options are handicap (meaning your selection could still win/lose with a draw). That's Asian for you, they don't like "push" outcomes Cheesy
17391  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: I need a miner that can push my transaction to a pool so it can be confirmed on: August 16, 2017, 11:40:06 AM
Your fee is 110 satoshis/byte... not 110,000 Tongue

current fees are now like 300+ satoshis/byte... https://bitcoinfees.21.co/ and https://btc.com/stats/unconfirmed-tx

network is either being spammed or everyone is sending transactions again... there are 50K+ unconfirmed transactions... fees are getting ridiculous Undecided

Wow. Fees really are getting absurd. Bitcoinfees is showing that even up to 140 sats/byte, estimated confirmation blocks is 5 - infinity... so looks like OP's tx is going to be sitting there for a very long time!

I don't recall ever seeing that even when though there was well over 150,000 txs in mempool. 281+ sats/byte is the highest I've ever seen so far at the extreme end of near-guarantee next block confirmation.
17392  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: PLease push my TX on: August 16, 2017, 11:31:19 AM

Almost the same problem as OP, thankfully only your second transaction is dependent on the first. I've submitted your first for acceleration. Once that confirms, the second one should happen on its own relatively quickly given its fee is more than 220 sats/byte.
17393  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Questions about ICO participation as a United States citizen on: August 16, 2017, 10:13:06 AM
You're technically correct in that there isn't a US legal ban on its citizens. The exclusion of US citizens from most ICOs (or any other crypto service offering investment vehicles for that matter) are pre-emptive of regulatory measures most people feel must happen soon. It's just cautionary so they cover their asses legally down the line, so to speak.

Personally, I doubt you have much to worry about if you're thinking of using a bypass (VPN, for example) for short-term participation. For now at least, in practice, it would be very difficult for authorities to pursue you anyway if you also cover your ass in privacy-wise.
17394  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's real use of segwit activation? on: August 16, 2017, 06:28:50 AM
Not sure how much satoshi/byte your eventually paid as you didn't clarify but it sounds like you paid a flat fee. With Electrum, I recommend unchecking the manual and dynamic fee boxes and then entering your own static fee adjusted to the current network situation and/or your needs. For example, yesterday I still had a 60+ satoshi per byte fee that bitcoinfees.21.co estimated would confirm in 20 hours. It was fine for me as it wasn't an urgent tx. Turned out to be pretty accurate (as it usually is for me) and confirmed a few hours ago.

Also the estimate for Localbitcoins is just an estimate. Bitcoinfees.21.co is a lot more accurate. You can post your txs here and I'll see if they can be accelerated.

On Segwit: we are not quite there yet. It is still in the lock-in period, and activates about a week from now when full nodes will begin validating SW txs.
On Blocksize increase: that's Bitcoin Cash for now.
17395  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: Bitcoin Faucets And Cloud Mining Sites. on: August 16, 2017, 05:55:49 AM
For faucets, I would only recommend two, if only for being some of the oldest faithfully paying sites that won't crash your browser with pop-ups: freebitco.in and moonbit.co.in. If you only use one faucet, it's the former. Decent rewards/bonus systems in there that doesn't penalise you for using faucets infrequently. Don't let the amount fool you, it's pegged to a dollar value that's been consistent since its launch.

Cloud mining, poster above me named just about all the legitimate ones. Despite my distaste for Bitcoin.com you should also check their plans out. Careful though, even with legitimate cloud mining, there's a significant waiting period just to recoup your investment. With the recent price boom, it should be a bit more profitable now though.

Btw, you don't technically mine any BTC from faucets.

17397  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-08-15] Bitcoin Sets New Record High of $4,483 in Overnight Trading on: August 15, 2017, 12:57:44 PM
These levels above $4,000 were actually experienced in the Far East back during the spring ATHs when demand far outstripped supply. I suppose it was just a matter of time global prices caught up with that willingness to buy. It's been noted that the majority of this week's volume came from the same region, so we see a continued trend of demand-fueled pricing.

What I've noticed since the $3,000 mark is that LBC traders have been buying below the average price, at least in Malaysia and EU. I used to be able to sell very close to that, but now always about $200 below average.
17398  Economy / Economics / Re: Anyone who bought coin under $18,000 BTC, will look like a genius soon on: August 15, 2017, 08:31:43 AM

I love waking up everyday to new all-time highs, but this euphoria is getting pretty tangible. I'm seeing lots of these threads. The last couple posted today predicted a 50 trillion dollar market cap within a year, and prices of up to $60,000. And you are saying that buying anything under $18,000 will make us look like geniuses, so that means you expect much, much higher prices than that.

Maybe the time for a nice, fat correction is coming soon. Cheesy

I haven't accumulated enough to feel the euphoria of these ATHs; perhaps a slight tinge of regret that I cannot buy any or am not earning them quickly enough. But far from feeling too bad about it, it's just pushing me to reach my personal target of 1 BTC in savings by the end of the year. If it ever reaches even $10,000 by early 2018, I'll consider myself an absolute genius for ensuring I reached my goal before then.

Big fat correction? You bet! Been holding off earnings for a few weeks and hoping to request them when the inevitable, if temporary, correction comes.
17399  Other / Meta / Oh hello l33t! on: August 15, 2017, 08:16:22 AM

Yes, I know. Lots of others may have known about this. But it was a cute Easter egg anyway. Only came here more than two years after creating my first account, couldn't even remember the username or email. The second coming was a lot more fun for some reason, so I stayed. 12 days, 17 hours and 56 minutes later, enjoying every bit of this bloody forum Smiley
17400  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Transaction not visible on wallet (and all my BTC are gone) on: August 14, 2017, 05:11:43 PM
Is this a screenshot of the wallet History tab and not address history? I'm afraid you're mistaken if that's the case cause it's pretty apparent that this address isn't part of your Electrum wallet. You can look at your Address tab, click the collapsible Used option. I doubt it's there.
