1741  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BITMAIN AntRouter R1: 1st wireless networking device with bitcoin mining chip on: March 09, 2016, 01:31:26 AM
So Batch 3 Available and they I guess they were not selling at $49 as the price is back down to $39.

Rich

Why am I not surprised?

Also, received my R1 today, the "EU" plug is huge, and ofc it's a plug without ground. So it won't fit in any sockets.. ridiculous.

What is really ridiculous is selling a US adapter when it has a plug that works direct to US outlet.  Now that is crazy.

My R1 ran with Crazyguys software for a while while I had a U3 that it was controlling, but once the U3 died there wasn't a reason for me to keep the R1 running to it's filed away in my drawer with other obsolete hardware.  I would have never run it with Bitmain's factory settings because I was concerned about where it was pointed and what it was actually mining, but that's not a concern with Crazyguy software.

I used the plug adapter, too, but mostly as a standoff on my power strip so I could access the plug next to where the R1 was plugged in.

Better then mine I had someone buy it on ebay.... keep it almost a month then decided they did not want it.  Said it was not good enough router..... and it is no nighthawk like I use for my house (actually use 2 nighthawks and a nighthawk extender).  I wish they would have asked and I could have told them not to expect worlds greatest router.... it is a  lotto miner that is a great U3 controller.

So sometime this week thanks to paypal I get my R1 back.... and hopefully it is still in perfect condition and I will plug it in again.  Not sure if I will try to sell again or not.   For what it brings I have had more headaches over this R1 ebay sale then much higher priced miners.

But I will have a R1 sometime this week from buyer.
1742  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BM1384 Pod Miner plus trade-in/recycling - an interest and feasibility poll on: March 09, 2016, 01:27:15 AM
One of my computers has issues with USB miners (U3, nanofury stick, compac, you name it), I would generally prefer miners to use ethernet connections.  Not sure if I'm in the minority or majority on this one...

To me it depends on price to add Ethernet connection.  I am very happy just to use a RPI, they are cheap and easy to get at a store even if you need one quick.   So usb to RPI I am fine with.

I'm worried if you go to Ethernet on pod how much cost it adds. I think a lot of miners have a RPI or two already.

I'm still going positive. Mining farms will have to be positive before halving and i'm sure the hashrate and difficulty will explode soon.
+3.2 for me, because I ALWAYS GO POSITIVE. and I am right 50% of the time haha Smiley

@ leowonderful

picks will start soon   so if you want this pick make sure to come back to ask for it when the picks open

Price heading down a little at 409... so could be better.  Hope price goes up.
1744  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: help to calculate how much i pay for electricity on: March 09, 2016, 01:21:19 AM
Best is to actually use a real bill.  You can see taxes and such sometimes it's higher then the tier after fee's are added.   So keep the tier system in mind, but I would use a actual bill.

My system is not tiered so it's easier.  You have some extra math to do.
1745  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: new to bitcoin mining on: March 08, 2016, 07:23:39 PM
electricity costs... that's 90%....

mining gear is 5%...

your disposal and effort to go along th news and with the whole btc universe.

but electricity is the key, trust me.

 Cool

Electricity is key on price that is true.  Also though it helps to have an area where sound does not matter.  A lot get a S7 and are surprised by how loud they actually are.  Yes you can mod them... but it's nicer to have an area where it does not matter.

Also countries with VAT's it can kill ROI.  Make sure your country does not have a high import tax or VAT or you might be adding a lot of extra money you have to make to ROI.
1746  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: diff thread Mar 3 to Mar 17? picks are closed.... Setting it up prize = 0.1 btc on: March 08, 2016, 04:54:20 PM
A flat diff for the next few months would make me a happy camper.  This s7 ain't going to pay itself you know...paid 4.7 btc with shipping, it has returned a little more than half (i havent calculated it exactly), its on kano pool so thats good.  To get the other 1/3 to 1/2 in btc....its going to be tough (or long).  unless btc increases in price, a flat diff is the best thing to happen for s7 resell value.  also would help if bitmain stopped selling freakin batches

The problem on flat difficulty is there is no facts out there.  I still have yet to hear a good reason that is confirmed as fact that could cause huge jumps up multiple periods in a row.   Now it's going low... it's crazy

Price I'm just hoping does not dive.  I keep hoping to be in 440-450 area but I think we have a ways to go till then.

No my bot did not reset and still no second payment, it just pushed payment date out further for me.
1748  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: New Miner - S7 / Antpool Configuration Question on: March 08, 2016, 05:30:16 AM
Hello!
I am brand new to mining and looking for some advice.  Everything looks good from the hardware side (I think), but I seem to be unable to find any clear guidance as to how to configure the miner, the pool and my bitcoin wallet.  One instruction says to set up 3 pools in Antpool - stratum 3333, vip 3333 and stratum 443.  Is this still applicable?  Would those be set up as different sub-accounts?  Also, I see in the dashboard where to enter my wallet address, but what goes in the Coinbase column?  Do I have to name my worker in the S7 GUI or will the pool assign a worker name?  Is specific naming convention required?
If anyone has a straightfoward guide to get an S7 and an Antpool account configured to communicate and make payments, I would be tremendously grateful for the assistance.
Thanks!!!

The VIP you have to request and be accepted (last I heard).  So using that is not going to do a lot for you.   You will see a lot more support for other pools such as kano, which is a great pool.

But antpool does offer PPS at 2.5 percent (you don't get transaction fee's or merged mining), but still that get's them a lot of miners to use them.
1749  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: pH Miners Launches Powerful Cryptocurrency Miners for Bitcoin on: March 08, 2016, 05:27:37 AM
Then the question becomes: Did PH miners actually buy rights to use the image or just copy it off the Getty site?
Betcha Getty would like to be aware of it's possible/probable unauthorized usage by them...

It is a scam company no doubt they copied it. There were some selling getty accounts in digital, but luckily they got rid of hacked/cracked in digital (for most part).  But no way they paid proper.

And nice job searching it out.

If there is enough interest and if Philipma (or another iindividual with good qualifications) is willing to do a group buy we can get them for $650.  I just spoke to Yan at BlockC.

Thanks for talking to Yan and getting a current quote.   Nice to see as a customer it went down some. It really is a great miner would be great to see even more adapt and use them.
1751  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: pH Miners Launches Powerful Cryptocurrency Miners for Bitcoin on: March 08, 2016, 02:47:08 AM
New York-based PH Miners Inc., manufacturers of cryptocurrency mining machines, has announced the launch of two new miners for the bitcoin and litecoin cryptocurrencies, which will allow users to process transactions and track the release of new digital coins.

PHminers is comprised of specialists with many years’ experience in bitcoin hardware as well as litecoin hardware and has developed the Bitcoin Miner 25TH/s, which retails at $3,000 and comes with all the necessary equipment, from casing to control unit and cabling, to set up.

The company’s Litecoin Miner 1000MH/s also costs $3,000 and can also mine other cryptocurrencies. These digital-currency miners are guaranteed to deliver long-life service, with the company, which only accepts payment in bitcoin, providing an extended warranty of 15 years to cover any kind of failure.

Both miners have been fully tested at multiple stages following manufacture to make sure they perform to the expected standards, and free shipping is offered to anywhere in the world, via FedEx or UPS courier services.

Eric Franklin said, the CEO of pH Miners, stated: “We believe that our products will have a high impact on the market, and we’re pleased to now make our first two miners available to customers around the world who want to get into the exciting area of cybercurrencies,”

Let's name the people on the picture, shall we:

Might be useful later on in courts.

BTW, where are the pictures of the board.  The case renderings are fine, where is the chip and the board?

This image is a fake.

Try google image find. If my memory is good, a very well know media is selling it.

Tinyeye is normally pretty good on this.  It did not find it out there - https://www.tineye.com/search/e06a5c492551b7f95ff9a3db1e920b52b995dfcd/

Not saying it is real, they could have done something to mask it.  But not easy to find this pic out there.  But still fake product.
1752  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Some details of large scale mining in China based on failed IPO on: March 08, 2016, 02:44:15 AM
I think a large reason of failing would be in part 1.  The electricity price is not that great for china operations, most are speculated to be much lower.   So I think they made it hard to get a profit now day's where electricity price can make/break your roi.

Interesting to see one fail though.  Thanks for sharing.
1753  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Review] Avalon 6 Miner - Winter Mining - Notlist3d - Also FAQ and Help on: March 07, 2016, 11:15:04 PM
Have they lowered the price on these to $400 yet?

BlockC's last lowering was 9,000 for 10 - http://www.blockc.co/products/avalon6-bitcoin-miner

So no not 400 mark on Avalon 6's.
1754  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: March 07, 2016, 08:04:23 PM
<snip>

I am not surprised with new batch I expected they would.  This batch could be open longer they word it " Shipped out from March 15th" so they can really leave it up for a while until they change price.

And wow ... considering prices in past it is amazing how low these things are going now at least to me.
I assume the low low price is mainly because Bitmain recouped all of their R&D as well as production setup costs around batch7 if not earlier. Now pricing is based on what the market will bear and their cost to produce is just parts & labor/other overhead.

Add in profit margin - I'd guess is still >100% - and you have our costs.

The latest price drop is 'prolly to entice the fence-sitters to buy some more s7's while they are waiting on BitFury or Bitmains next gen rigs. With them at $650 USD I'm seriously considering getting a more s7's myself...

I think it's been based on amount they would produce for a while.   I'm not sure when R/D costs were paid for but I speculate it was a early batch, they sold a TON of these miners.  They are good miners so I can understand why.

Even when there is next gen for bitmain (which bitmain has not shown any leaks of it existing yet) I suspect S7 will remain very profitable in their internal data centers.  I think they are doing great able to make profit mining themselves and by selling to others.  As a business I would love to be in their position.
1755  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: WHICH BITCOIN WALLET IS THE MOST GOOD AND CONVINENCY on: March 07, 2016, 04:34:23 PM
Could pls tell the most secure and also convinent to use btc wallet. thanks
Don't use web wallet if you want only secure, but if you want to easy to use it every where use it(that the web wallet).

If i want to secure... what should i use if dont want to use the wallet?

Check the paper or coldstorage to keep it safe. If you keep it their your bitcoin will be safe and if you open it after 50 years also that make the price also high.

The great thing is if you have a smart phone there are apps to look up BTC address and holdings.  I use a app on my phone to monitor some of my BTC address's and have 0 access to them from phone.  So is great can monitor without worrying about security as I don't keep private key or anything like that on phone.

I have a hot wallet with a little but don't keep much  in hot wallets as I really support paper and hardware wallets.
I use a hot wallet on blockchain.info because I can easily access the funds on my phone and when I need to, I can withdraw and use them on the occasional HYiP. My cold wallet is a paper wallet though, and I hold about 40$ of btc on there. I once had 100$ on my hot wallet but of course blockchain could "shut down" on us at anytime. So you need to be prepared for anything. That's why I have hot and cold, for when the storm strikes. Cheesy
I also have 4 other cold wallets with 10$ each incase my cold gets ripped up by my brother (happened once but had private key) or just if it gets stolen in general.

And hot wallets have a place, I realize blockchain.info is most popular on hot web wallets.  There is a need for them and a good use.  Just keep it to a small amount and make sure to use 2nd facor.

I really like Yubikey with blockchain.info - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1353231.0  This is a secure and easy way to add second factor that is very strong and still have a hot wallet easy to access.
1756  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: March 07, 2016, 04:29:27 PM
Batch 12 just showed up for $665!!! This will hurt resell value of our units.  They should have end it at batch 11.  Sad

Amazing thing is that in the UK people are still selling these on ebay at £1200 ($1600)...

Rich

EU is crazy with vat adding value to these miners.   I could never understand why someone would pay 20+ percent maybe even 30 in some percent in some cases to ship to their house over a data center.  20-30 percent really could break ROI.  I also suspect some cheat the system fill out false numbers... send to uk.... and then instantly have a miner to sell at a higher price.

I am not surprised with new batch I expected they would.  This batch could be open longer they word it " Shipped out from March 15th" so they can really leave it up for a while until they change price.

And wow ... considering prices in past it is amazing how low these things are going now at least to me.
1757  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Need recommendation on mining just to earn $50/month, don't need to make profit on: March 07, 2016, 04:22:57 PM
when you say prices are cheaper on this forum, do you mean i would buy them used from people?

The Amazon listings for S5s would also all be used, and Amazon is pretty strong on buyer protection (and a LOT LESS so on seller protection).

Their fees do tend to be high, so they tend to have some of the higher prices on stuff, it pays to shop around.

Also, keep in mind that the current difficulty flatness is probably a one-time abberation that won't repeat anytime soon, your income will mostly likely drop slowly 'till July, then the reward halfing will drop it in half (give or take difficulty adjustments - I DO expect to see a couple of difficulty DROPS shortly after the halfing though probably NOT enough to make up for the halfing in total, then start increasing again).

Quote

If i'm correct, the S5 is pretty stable, and since the diff rose and the halving is coming near, a lot of people get rid of perfectly fine S5's because they will not make any more profit with their current electricity rate.

[/quote}

That's me, my S5s were more stable than my Internet connection, but at my current electric rate they were making all of $1-$2 a WEEK, so I sold them off while they were still worth a substantial fraction of what I bought them for.

Ditto the SP20, but it held it's value better.

Paypal I would suggest is just as strong on buyer protection.   If not possibly stronger.  I'm not sure how many have dealt with it (I have from both sides) they tend to side with buyer.

But forum is cheapest place you will find in most cases.  Also besides S5 there is SP20 and Avalon 4.1 in same area.  So any of the 3 would work for what your wanting and are in that price area.
1758  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: diff thread Mar 3 to Mar 17? picks are closed.... Setting it up prize = 0.1 btc on: March 07, 2016, 04:18:19 PM
Price is hanging around 409.  I liked the 440+ area much better.  But it seems like it's pretty slow moving.   I really want to see some movement before having upwards (I hope it happens).

So far pretty happy with low numbers on bitwisdom.  Still cant explain it.... but happy none the less.
1759  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What are miners doing with their profits? on: March 07, 2016, 04:16:11 PM
Most of the coins are likely being sold to pay for mining expenses at these levels unless there is evidence that most miners are real speculators and they are off-setting their expenses so they can take a mine & hold strategy?
Holding and trading are better ways to make bitcoin than just selling; a good trader can make money from his miners even if the miner has negative roi assuming the market is good. holding isn't a good idea at the moment, because btc seems to be holding at the price of 400 at the moment. But yes , most miners do sell their bitcoin as it is the best and safest option besides trading or holding.

But you'd make MORE if you didn't mine, in that case.

I tend to hold when I think the price is low, and sell when I think it's high - hasn't gotten low enough the last few months for me to buy, and it's getting close enough to the halfing that I'm almost ready to reset my "buy/hold/sell" thresholds.

Yes mining has become harder and harder.  But some still make profit so i would not say all not mine.  It all depends on many different variables.  Just really a lot of differences.

And having investors know about long before, so I don't see one big jump maybe gradual.  It's all speculation.  But I plan on holding way longer then past having.  Some day I will look back and say I was smart or an Idiot... could be either and I realize it.
