Maybe there's something on 58008 Merit. We'll know around the year 2035.

Spam should be handle by forum itself, not by DT members. Correct. From what I've seen, theymos disagrees with tagging spammers. Report the posts, let Mods handle it. I can't read the posts, and kzv is probably correct that it's spam. However, being on DT means you should make your feedback as accurate as possible, and tagging a spammer as if he's a scammer dilutes the value of red feedback on actual scammers. Join our SpamBuster CLUB, report all his posts, and get him banned. But don't use DT-powers for non-trust issues.

I know there is not a single word about marketcap in rules. But I was just implying that it's a kind of dumb to cover all altcoins in this definition when real abuse was due to giveaways launched by ICO coins. I think you have a point there, but how do you suggest to implement this? I do suggest you create a topic in Meta after your ban to discuss changing this rule. Don't create that topic now, it'll be ban-evasion and get you permanently banned. The only way I can think of to stop abuse while allowing on-forum altcoin giveaways would be if there's a minimum dollar-equavalent value per post. Say $0.50 minimum on average. That stops giveaways where each post pays for instance 1 Doge, and it could also stop the "post 5000 different numbers to win 5 times $50 in Bitcoin" spam threads. But I highly doubt theymos would want to control amounts given this way, and without clear restrictions altcoin-giveaways can't be allowed without being abused. I still think 30 days ban is kinda harsh on me. I know I broke rule due to the complexity of rules but 7 or 14 days would been a more appropriate in my case. I have thread to maintain, since I can't reply to people's queries anymore on forum it's lose-lose for both me and forum members having genuine concerns. You could consider updating your topic title from "Why am I banned?" to for instance "I think my ban is harsh: can it be reduced from 30 to 7 days?".

Maybe we need a second hype similar to the year end of 2017, when the transactions were sitting in the mempool for days before they got confirmed in the end... even if they had very high fees compared to the normal days before and after.... That time the demand for the LN was higher than now, despite of the system was in an earlier status, with less functionality and similar things... That's not going to work: At the fee-peak in 2017, it took about $25 for a small transaction to get a confirmation. A transaction funding a LN-channel is bigger (in bytes), and you'll need a similar transaction to close the channel. You may be looking at $100 to fund and close a channel, and there's no amount of small coffee payments that can justify that. For LN-nodes, that leads to small dust inputs, which is very expensive to consolidate again, so they may just stop accepting new channels. If I may add my own "maybe": Maybe we'll get a LN-board (or second-layer-board) when there's more demand, and more merchants accept LN. I recently paid a $1 VPS through LN, and the fact that they accept LN was the only reason to buy it. I still want to travel to Arnhem (Dutch) to buy groceries and pay through LN ![Cheesy](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cheesy.gif) I realize I'm going off-topic, but I like LN's potential. Would it help if I make "1 thread to list them all", like my GUIDES-topic, until there's a LN-board?

It would be kinda interesting to do this for all ranks, except Legendary, just because something has been bugging me these past couple of weeks. I can add it, but it's going to be a long list. Bitcointalk user Buwaytress has been on Hero rank for so long and I'd really like them to finally rank up to Legendary. I know they don't bring in the huge merit amounts, but they've been consistently contributing to Bitcointalk IMO. They're just 34 merit away from ranking up to Legendary and I think it's time that that happened ![Tongue](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/tongue.gif) Done ![Smiley](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/smiley.gif) Thanks for posting this. I still have a huge pile of sMerit to send, and recently I've sent large amounts a few times to make someone Rank up. Just like theymos said: ~if they have decent posts, by all means, give them the 250 or 500 merit that they need to rank-up.

I think it's okay: you'll see the tag after making a transaction. Now, I get either this: greco Adressen zijn id die u gebruikt om Bitcoins te sturen naar een andere persoon. Or this: Bitcoin Adres Adressen zijn id die u gebruikt om Bitcoins te sturen naar een andere persoon. I'm not sure why blockchain.com doesn't always show "greco".

Online in what sense? It's a mystery to me: LoyceBot often scrapes pages, but it's still stuck at only 14 days logged in. I've tested an auto-refresh in the past on my main account (when someone was checking my online time), and that made my time logged in go up real-time. Recently, there was a topic about a few users in Bitcoin Forum - Statistics Center, who's "Most Time Online" increases a couple dozen times faster than real-time.

Could I suggest that in addition to the list of member sho most support newbies, we could make a list of newbies who received the most merits in a month, or just the top receiver. This would help users looking for newbies to merits and would hasten the ranking up of deserving users. I like it, I'll make it when I have some time. Update: done! My requirements for Newbies are really low: if I think it's a real user and not a spammer, I'll Merit him/her. I strongly believe that's what Bitcointalk (and Bitcoin) needs to grow long-term.
I agree with the second part of what you wrote, but I can't bring myself to lower my standards that much when it comes to low-ranked members. While not all of them are spammers, I do think that the vast majority of their posts are of very low quality and are made primarily for bounties or signature campaigns, which has been the case for years now. I don't consider Newbies who spam bounties or signature campaigns "real users", they're very likely just one of many alt-accounts, and even if they are unique people, I don't think they're here for the right reasons. As an example: I've merited this Newbie's third post: I have a dilemma! I remember buying Bitcoin at its infancy 2009/2010 however remember deleting the wallet and all related programs as the PC was running so slow and was crashing!! got a new PC then and left the old (now none bootable) one untouched till recently when I downloaded some Deleted file recovery software to try to find the wallet or any sign of it!!
I am very primitive when it comes to computers do not know coding, Python or any other PC language just a simple Windows operator!
Any bitcoin/blockchain specific identifying file, cookies, programs, scripts.... names to plug in to the recovery software search that would hint to existence of bitcoin/ wallet or blockchain on the old hard drives? any Windows software that I can download/ buy to find/ recover them? What do you recommend to see if it's worth going to the next step of professional recovery?? But not this Newbie's first post: The first example is someone who I don't expect to start spamming this forum, for the second example I have no hopes left ![Tongue](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/tongue.gif) The first one is much harder to find though.

So I just woke up and found that I am banned for 30 days for running on-forum giveaway/incentivising to post. You're literally answered your own question in the first sentence. Except for the fact that I wasn't giving away some new fancy shitty altcoin. My giveaway was in well-established altcoin which is currently having market cap of 318M. That doesn't matter, it's not allowed for any coin other than Bitcoin. Also if people are allowed to giveaway physical coins and even Lamborghini in games and round section, what harm dogecoin is doing to attract 30 days ban. Mods don't check all threads. If you think any of those topics violate forum rules, click "Report to moderator" and explain why it should be deleted.

I'm using your merit.txt, didn't even know we finally have a better merit log. Are you going to continue to update your merit.txt? As far as I know, it's been there since the introduction of Merit. But I'll keep doing my weekly updates anyway.
|
|
|
Are you still using my weekly merit.all.txt for this, or are you also scraping Recent merits on a regular basis to show near real-time results? Every 10 minutes will probably be enough for this.

Awwww... such a cute backscratching triangle circle cycle. Those are rookie numbers compared to the level of backstabbing:

For me Is a case close, and sorry if you spent time on this May I suggest to add "NO" to the topic title, to make it clear for people who just scroll Reputation without reading everything?
