Con,

Seems i got it working stable

Batch ONE unit with unmodified WR703 powered from molex/USB HUB just for power - PSU. Jumper 5 Removed, and FPGA connected directly to WR703 USB. ftdi/usbserial drivers removed, Wifi drivers removed also

The results

Elapsed 1day 16h 56m 52s
Difficulty Accepted: 2907218.00000000 1183.30/m 84704.14 - MHS

Clock is set to auto moving between 357-362

Thank you

PS: you read my mind - two great options Wink

--avalon-fan <arg> Set fanspeed percentage for avalon, single value or range (default: 20-100)
--avalon-freq <arg> Set frequency range for avalon-auto, single value or range

I don;t understand. What is ambinet?
ambient
Thank you Con
My grammar sucks no spell checker around. Buy the way do you get usb disconnects? How often do you need to restart your unit. My batch 2 is coming shortly and i will have some clue what is going on with USB there. I have removed ftdi driver, tried direct usb connection to various hosts including PC and USB just disconnects from time to times. If i wait long enough it reconnects and all is fine. I did it just once otherwise reboot not to waste time

Can you comment?

Bump...
Any news someone? Mails/units comming? If yes what was the ammount paod per unit?
1764  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: June 30, 2013, 06:01:50 AM
350 and pretty cool without airco Cool

(1 fan on max rpm)

How do you set your ASIC to be like that? I'm getting 46 degrees. its crazy!

With Ambiniet about 15C. Temp1 is showing at lest +5 when mounted inside Wink

PS: by the way i am prety sure that all reboots/hangs are due to USB disconect issues. I have tried whatever i can but mu unit needs rebot twice per day.

1. About cables - connecting more cables is always better idea to spread the load. As minimum you need three and they are enough
2. About brick - Never do two things at once - a jeneral rule one step forward so you can get back I am very sure that it was loose USb. When avaon is powered up the wr703 boots after 5 secs or so. Menwhile green led is flashing. when 703 finds USB (or cgminer starts) led goes off. So it was usb cable or cgminer not starting or having bad cgminer options left when you downgrade/upgrade and so on
as you see avalon is not there not found

ssh to unit and post dmesg output pls
1766  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: June 29, 2013, 04:23:31 PM
just finished upgrading one the same as i have the other 2, when i power it back on all looks fine, but it never connects to cgminer and the green light indicator just stays on.......

any ideas?

USB!
Cable is unpluged or loose

And connect all cables as advised - mandatory

i love seeing those "yay!"

yay!

small steps. nice and slow.

Brilliant BKK!

We just banged out 3 blocks in 7 minutes sweet.
It was about time  Cheesy

BKK,

Would you be so kind to update git and include latest version of cgminer driver?

I am curious to look at it.

Also do you think that hash precalc shall be done buy the PIC or cgminer? The prsumption is that there are much more resources in mining host compared to PIC

10X

PS: I am waiting for daily summary update impatiently

Best

What pool are ya'll mining on?

50btc, btcguild, ozcoin and quite a few others just in case Smiley

I'm one of the eligius peaks. Looking at bitminter

Has anybody had any success in getting p2pool to work with the Avalons? As far as I understand you can get it to work but it's underperforming?

+1 bitminter

not sure why it isn't more popular?

it has lowest fees i've found
you keep your namecoins
and the dashboard is great
gimmicky, but i love the noises when a block is solved Smiley
+1 for bitminter also!
1771  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon stable @ 98,986Mhash/sec on: June 27, 2013, 10:40:49 PM
My avalon (batch#2 black) have one big black thermal pad, so no thermal compound. It's really bad to remove because it sticks on the screw holes. I did it with one module and added artic mx2 one all chips. But it was not helping much to get higher clocks.

Better would be to add/drill all the holes, because the small modules do not get good "pressed" on the heatsink.

I have good temps without AC: 16 / 33 / 36 @ 355 --avalon-auto after 2h

If i go 365, same temps but 3,4% hw rate. Is it the PSU that prevents higher clocks? I run the stock 750W. Well i will test a 1000W PSU i have spare.

greets,
ebereon

I guess it is TPS power converter and to much noise in avalon chips power. Just a guess. At that clock TPS my be driven at abot 90% of it's capacity. I am still waiting for someone to measure accurately chip consumption at 1.2V when overclocked.
1772  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: June 27, 2013, 10:35:13 PM
Worth mentioning I blew up a 750 Watt stock PSU today running at 362 Mhz in a 3 module unit. I wouldn't recommend running 4 modules with an 860 watt based on this.

what brand psu?
what does it say for 12V rail? how many amps ?
1773  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: June 27, 2013, 09:52:09 PM
I upgraded lots of my units without a problem. Just had two issues. One 750 Power supply blew out and on another unit I bricked it on a firmware upgrade. Researching now how to fix it unless anyone here knows (I don't think it was a memory issue as my other 17 units are all basically the same).

Yes same but it is always good idea to make sure there is free memory. I am not sure if you will be able to fix it without FLASH programer+Socket (unless boot loader is alive and there is recovery tftp procedure search openwrt/tplink forums). Try to mine with PC or make sure that there is no power in the usb cable from your broken unit and plug it in the hub of the other units. cgminer should be fine with two avalons connected to single WR703
1774  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: June 27, 2013, 09:40:55 PM
Careful upgrading to the latest firmware. I just bricked one of my units. It basically just got stuck at "OpenWrt - Flashing" and never recovered.

Also no shell access anymore?

Low mem issue? Did you check your free memory before upgrade. If wifi modules were loaded shit can happen

Remove wifi modules, disable cgminer from startup+monitoring script, reboot the unit before next upgrade make sure there is enough memory and then upgrade, enable what you need and go

1775  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: June 27, 2013, 09:23:08 PM
yes after a little fiddle i see what you mean.... once again i flashed the 19b firmware with max fans on a btach 1..... straight off the blue fan starts to struggle, so i unscrewed the back screws then lifted up the the top a little and this seems to get the blue fan spinning again at a nice speed........ placing the bots upside down on the sides keeps te gap open at a a bolts height around.....

will test it more tomorrow when i get PSU upgrades.... no point in taking it to bits tonight

Put a lighter/smoke near blue fan and guess what you will find out that air gets out not in that is why the fan is struggling. I went crazy about it i thought i messed the wires or good knows what until i found out
In short at max PWM air gets out from blue fan hole instead in = useless!

Unplug it, move temp sensor outside and seal it

1776  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon stable @ 98,986Mhash/sec on: June 27, 2013, 09:19:38 PM
This Avalon is for sale. Asking 190BTC/shipped.
Is it still working Grin

And ROI tends to be infinity?

Good luck to the happy buyer and pls  french fries for free also

1777  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: June 27, 2013, 09:09:56 PM
a tip to anyone who can find me replacement fans in the EU....... 36000 - 4000 rpm 120mm x 38mm
It is useless dude believe me, and main point is with air it needs to circulate. Which means that if fans are too strong compared to two fan holes for air out you do nothing, because pressure is too big.

If you are keen on fans better idea is to install it in the right hole in th back near psu to suck hot air out

1778  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: June 27, 2013, 09:04:13 PM
ok cool Smiley why do batch 2 not have this issue?
Because three fans are equal int therms of RPM i guess Smiley But it does not mean that it does not has issue. third fan is useless when power supply is inside. just my opinion. It shall cool of the PSU but there are too many wires before air reaches the PSU. That is what i am thinking.

Do what i did it is ugly wires and sensors outside but it works and PSU gets better cooling when it is outside. I changed stock 650W PSU and when i tried to close the box i just do not have the guts to stick all psu cables inside, which force me to do all this little by little

1779  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: June 27, 2013, 08:48:31 PM
Thanks. Just ordered a fan off of Amazon. Not seeing the rpm in cgminer kind of bugs me.

Dude,
What i did.
1. Removed PSU outside - Ugly hack
2. The PSU hole was sealed to avoid air out
3. The blue fan unplugged/disconnected
4. Tmp sensor mounted outside
5. Blue fan hole sealed to avoid air out

Result:

All temps went down 3-4 degrees Ambient stays constant air conditioned
Result with latest FW - auto-clock between 357-361

Difficulty Accepted:118964.00000000 1191.43/m 85285.68Mhs ACCEPTED BY THE POOL
Up time:   1h 39m 51s

And I am Happy Thanks CON!!!

Nice and good results also risky leaving it on auto Smiley but nice results non the less

Yeah I know....It may go up to 450 who knows  Cheesy
It will run for a few more hours and i will leave it at 355 probably Smiley
